Two Hearts, One Stone by Leslie Scott – Review by Carrie Reed

Two Hearts, One Stone (Boots and Babies)Two Hearts, One Stone by Leslie Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!
Wow! Loved this book, the story was short and sweet. I wish I could see more of this couple, and what the future held for them, but by the ending I’m thinking it would be nothing but love and beauty. I was really hurting with Emmy when there were a couple of misunderstandings with Stone and other ladies, and he gets upset by them but I understand her, he is a man whore and she is reluctant to trust him to be with one woman. It is so sweet to see him do a complete turn around when faced with raising a baby, it melted my heart and made me happy to see him want a forever kind of love finally after al the years of playing around. Even though the story was short, all of the info that needed to be there was there and I enjoyed meeting all the characters. I look forward to what is next from this author.

Hook’s Little Mermaid (The Untold Stories BOOK 1) by Suzanna Lynn – Review by Sherry Sharpnack

Hook's Little MermaidHook’s Little Mermaid by Suzanna Lynn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is Book #1 in “The Untold Stories” series by Suzanna Lynn. I accidentally read Book #2 first so backtracked to this one.
In this tale, we learn about how Captain Jameson Shaw became Captain Hook, obsessed w/ Peter Pan and a little mermaid friend of Pan’s. As I am absolutely NOT a fan of the Peter Pan complex – in which men never want to outgrow being little boys – I have to admit that I’ve never read “Peter Pan,” and thus know very little about the actual fairy tale. However, one can enjoy this tale w/o knowing the “real” story.
Shaw is obsessed w/ finding and killing Peter Pan, blaming him for kidnapping his son, a child he had only recently met. The child was apparently killed while being one of the Lost Boys. Pan is friends w/ a little mermaid, Elynna. Shaw encounters a witch in the form of a mermaid, who has her own reasons for wishing to hunt down Pan and his little friend. We meet Red Riding Hood again, when Red gives Shaw some of the ever-burning ash from the Blakx Forest to defeat the kraken at sea when he goes on his quest for Pan. But first, Shaw and his crew go to Fairyland to kidnap a fairy, as they will need fairy dust to capture Pan. Thus we meet Tinker Bell, who honestly is my favorite character in this story, as she stays mostly true to herself and her own goals, as opposed to every other character in this story!
As in all fairy tales, nothing is as it seems. Shaw’s thirst for revenge makes him overlook the shady character of Zerena the mermaid witch until it is too late. Pan isn’t all selfish little boy, either. There’s lots of action and plenty of tongue-in-cheek dialogue, which is enjoyable. The action occurring when Shaw accidentally loses his hand was confusing, but it IS a fairy tale, so doesn’t have to always make sense.
All in all, I just didn’t enjoy this tale as much as the one about Red Riding Hood, and am looking forward to Book #3 which is about the Beauty and the Beast. I’m looking forward to how Ms. Lynn treats that story. As long as the beautiful library is there, I’ll be fine!

Red’s Tangled Tale: Captain Hook and Red Riding Hood discover the Big Bad Wolf, and Rapunzel too! (The Untold Stories Book 2) by Suzanna Lynn – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Red's Tangled Tale (The Untold Stories, #2)Red’s Tangled Tale by Suzanna Lynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Little Red Riding Hood is the little girl who skips through the woods to visit her grandmother and bring her treats, but who is also scared of the Big Bad Wolf, but this is not necessarily true, she actually lives with her grandmother and Red is the name the villagers who who shun her have given her because of her red cloak she wears and she isn’t scared of the Big Bad Wolf, she hunts him.

Red lives in Ravenmore in an area known as Timbergard by the Blakx forest where huge wolves prowl on a night, it is said to have been cursed by a sorceress and cut off from the rest of the kingdom by another who used a fire to burn a border, which it is said to be still burning, but out of all who live there, only Red’s father was brave enough to go hunting in those woods, now it is up to Red to do since he was killed by the wolves a year before. When Red kills a wolf the merchants are always trying to short change her from everything from the meat to the pelt, despite the fact that they would be cold and starving if she didn’t hunt, but when she brings the latest prepared kill, an old friend, Captain Hook helps her out with the pelt, but he has changed and Red is determined to find out why. After Hook tells Red his tale, she agrees to help him to through the forest and collect some of the ash he needs from the border, so they prepare what they need, albeit the pirates think that Red is just a girl, the Captain soon puts them right and they agree that they will meet at Red’s grandmother’s house and set off at first light the next day

As Red and the pirates set off, much to the dismay of her grandmother, Red explains that she will lead the way and that they must listen to her, but the pirates aren’t used to long treks in the forest and after a few hours, they stop to eat, drink and rest, this is were one of the pirates sees his first wolf print and the size of it scares him. Later on, as it starts to get dark, Red insists that they find somewhere to camp for the night, the best place she finds is a cave at the source of the river, it means they have to wade through the cold water to it, but it will be safe and somewhere they can light a fire to dry off. The next day the pirates start to complain about being tired and hungry, so they rest before they get the ash, however, because of this, they are still a ways away from the cave when night starts to fall and the wolves start to hunt them, so Red has to make a drastic decision and she decides to run and lead the wolves away from the pirates. As she does it, she falls down a hill and when she gets to the bottom, she sees a white wolf chasing her, it reminds her of the one who chased her out of the woods the night of her father’s death, but soon she sees a place ahead of her which is far from ordinary, but it is something which could save her life.

Will Red be able to lead the wolves away from the pirates and will this mysterious place be the saving grace she hopes it is, or will there be something inside which could spell the end of her existence? This is a story of secrets, revelations, bravery and magic, it is another untold story which will change your view of Red and fairy tales in general while leaving you wanting more.

Daisy's Darkness (Wheels & Hogs #6)Daisy’s Darkness by D.M. Earl
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars!
WOW! What an awesome read! I could not put this book down. I didn’t know if Daisy was going to make it through this year in high school. The bullying she suffers would be too much for anyone and the fact that nobody in her family could recognize that she was hurting really made my heart lurch. I was very grateful to see the love and support she had within her family and friends groups and was hoping to see a little more happen with Griffin but I was satisfied with what we got. I would highly recommend this book for all young adults. Even though this is just a book, these scenarios are real and happen to teenagers all around. It would be nice for all youth to see how bullying of any kind could effect someone and what they can turn to, to make themselves feel better, or how they discipline theirselves because of it. I did not catch the other books in the series, this book can be read as a stand alone.

I absolutely adore this author; her books never fail to entertain me and I have read quite a few if not all of them. All of the storylines are different and so to are the characters, a true testament to her as an author when you can write so many books and they are always different! Twisted Throttle was such an amazing read from beginning to end. I love the crossover with the other series and seeing new generation if characters coming through. I loved Peg so to read Noah (Throttle’s) story was great. Gwen was a brilliant character to read about and the sparks definitely flew between her and Throttle! Such an amazing read from beginning to end and I cannot wait for whatever Ms Mellett brings out next – I shall be eagerly awaiting it!!

I really enjoyed this story. It was a great rom com read and one that I would highly recommend. I loved Willow, she was such a relatable character, the author really made her feel believable. There were a few laugh out loud moments between her and Gun, they had a nice amount of chemistry and attraction.
The flow of the story was really good, it made it so easy to read. Overall a fantastic read and I can’t wait to read more from Ms May again in the future.

This is brilliant for revisiting your childhood favourite fairy tales as an adult. This was a fresh spin on the Captain Hook/Peter Pan story and I really enjoyed it. Captain James Shaw is hell bent on revenge, blaming Peter Pan and the Lost Boys for the death of his son. Whilst plotting how to bring down his nemesis he meets a mermaid along the way who enthrals and makes him question everything he knew. The character building was brilliant and the story was so beautifully written. This is definitely a saga that I am going to continue with, looking forward to see what happens next.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Love Between the Lines by A.Z. Brazeau earns 4 out of 5 stars for me. This was a highly enjoyable, quick read that centers around the burgeoning relationship between protagonist Marlowe Bennet and a book cover model named Heath Rochester. Marlowe is a writer who loves her cats. Heath is a successful model who returns home to take over running his family’s bookstore. The pair, who already have a little bit of history, spark a relationship that is full of enough drama and tension to keep the pages turning. Not only is this story a charming, funny contemporary romance, it also addresses the struggles of mental health maintenance. Marlowe lives with anxiety and attends therapy where she learns realistically helpful strategies. I appreciate every aspect of this story and am glad it is only the first in this series.

This is the third book in the series but it can be read as a stand-alone. This is the first one that I have read and I need to definitely go back and read the others. It is filled with desire, danger and intrigue. The author manages to pull you in until you are engrossed in the story. I was wrapped in Bryanna’s plight, wondering where she would end up. She is young and innocent. A virgin tricked yet determined to save her family. Damian is an elite bodyguard hired to retrieve and protect her. This job turned out to be anything but routine. He expected to find someone sweet and found instead an incredibly sexy submissive that calls to his dominant nature. The job became personal when the need to claim and protect her took over. The chemistry between the two will set your book on fire. You’ll definitely enjoy getting burned.

Red's Tangled Tale (The Untold Stories, #2)Red’s Tangled Tale by Suzanna Lynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second  book in The Untold Stories Series. I really enjoyed this book. It was definately not what I expected which was great. Some retelling of old tales can become a bit boring as authors try not to stray to far from the original. However this one blows the original story and the the thought you have about Red Riding Hood to bits.

In this story Red is a strong young woman looking for revenge against the wolves that killed her father. She is strong willed and determined. When an old friend James Hook returns with a mission Red jumps at the chance to help him. Joining Hook on his mission leads Red down  a path she never would have dreamed of and introduces more characters we know and love.

Can their relationship as young and new and fresh as it is withstand all the gossip and distance?
Only time will tell.
In this story we also meet Cecily’s grandma and she is a true joy to read about. LOVE that she gets her own chances.

Via Mari really jumps right into this story from the first page, and it did not disappoint! I was pleasantly surprised to find that I liked Damian from the very beginning. It was Bryanna I was wondering about. There was more than once I was thinking, “why would she do that?!” But as the story goes on you learn exactly why, and how strong she was for going through it all. Damian’s need to protect Bryanna quickly surpassed it just being for the job. Their romance was as sweet as it was steamy. I’ll definitely be coming back for more by Via Mari!

Another absolutely nail-biting instalment to this amazing series by Ms O’Flynn! I cannot believe after 10 books I am still completely hooked on this series; the author has an amazing talent at grabbing my attention with her writing from the very start. I love Petrosky and watching him as he tries to solve crimes. Each book has been different and equally as riveting to read. In this story we see Petrosky face his demons and I was right there in the story with all of the characters. He is determined to find the person who killed his partner!
This series definitely needs to be read in order in my opinion _ it’s an excellent series and readers will not be disappointed!!

Twisted Throttle (Satan's Devils MC Second Generation #3)Twisted Throttle by Manda Mellett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just simply, WOW! The more and more that I delve into this series, the more that I love it! Twisted Throttle is the third book in the Satan’s Devils MC Second Generation series by Manda Mellett. I was a bit surprised with Noah aka Throttle, who happens to be Peg and Darcy’s son. Throttle is now the Enforcer of the mother chapter of Satan’s Devils in Tucson. It’s so cool to see these men all grown up now! In this book, Throttle seems to have a stalker. As soon as he gains on this stalker, a curve ball smacks him right in the face. Her name is Gwen. Just like so many of the other brothers in the series, Throttle is not ready for a permanent “Old Lady.” So what do you think happens between the two of them? I love these two and can’t wait to see where they go in future books. There are so many twists and turns. The reason I love this series and this author is the fact that you really never know what will happen. There are so many twists and turns that there is just no way you can predict the outcome of ANYTHING! It’s simply brilliant. There are never the same twists from book to book. Every book is a new adventure! Just like all the other series, I recommend you read it from the beginning but you can definitely read this one on its own. I love this series and cannot wait to read the next book!

Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book Two) AUDIO BOOK by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by KAYLA OCTAVIANO

FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS!

I loved this book. I was laughing the entire time it was being read to me. Audiobooks are great because you can multitask while they are being read to you. “Shift Happens” was so good, I would rewind it just to be sure I didn’t miss anything! It kept me smiling and upbeat the entire time. Also, the narrator of this book makes the characters come to life with her accents and change in tone when reading quotes. I listened to the first book in the “New Orleans Nocturnes” series, and when I saw the second one available, I was so excited to listen to it! This author writes in such a modern tone that it makes me feel like I’m living it. I look forward to reading and listening to more books by Carrie Pulkinen.

Marlowe is a writer that finds it so much easier to live life at home with her cats. Her sister and her best friend are there for her and that’s all she needs. She’s sworn off of men and love. Who could blame her? Have enough bad relationships and you don’t really want more. Anxiety is so hard to overcome even when a smart, sexy and loyal guy like Heath comes along. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wolf’s Beautiful Beast: The Big Bad Wolf and Red Riding Hood, join Rapunzel to battle a beast. (The Untold Stories Book 3) by Suzanna Lynn is a story full of fiction and adventure. You get to see the big bad wolf differently. Rapunzel is even shown differently than ever expected. This story is full of surprises.

Lycus was cursed to race across Blakx Forest in wolf form under the silver light of the moon. When Rapunzel set him free, everything changed. He joins her and Red on their journey to the Land of Oz after learning their plans, oblivious to the darkness they will soon face. The trio, trapped in the land of Bruen, hears reports of a vanishing princess and a horrific beast. Lycus is forced to join the hunting party to destroy the beast and save the princess after sticking his nose where the king didn’t think it belonged. The same beast catches Lycus he was commanded to kill, proving that no good deed goes unpunished. It doesn’t take him long to realize that everything in the abandoned castle isn’t as it looks and that there’s a lot more to this story than meets the eye. Can Lycus rescue the princess before his friends are punished for his error in a race against the clock?

This was a lovely retelling. You get to see a side of character you never imagined before, and I loved every page of it. This is book three, and I would love to read more of this collection.

Daisy’s Darkness (Wheels & Hogs Book 6) by D.M. Earl – Review by Liz Vrchota

Daisy's Darkness (Wheels & Hogs #6)Daisy’s Darkness by D.M. Earl
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is about as real as it can get when it comes to shedding a light on the many obstacles, feelings, and scary and scarring topics that teenagers deal with today. I don’t know if it is because I currently have a thirteen year old girl and 5 other kiddos who will hit teenage years, or if it just was plain mind consuming for me because I could relate on a personal level at that age as well, but this book will be with me for a long long time to come. I will say it does have some extremely triggering topics and may be difficult if you do not feel steady or strong in your mental health at the moment. However, I say that with caution because I am a strong believer in words being a healing thing for many. It is nice to feel as if you are not alone in the world whether it is a fiction or nonfiction read. This author, DM Earl, has done a wonderful job as well handling the topics in a way that I found constructive not just for mere filler in a story. I will not give away any of the gritty details because that is something you will want to read and enjoy for yourself, but I will say this is not one you will want to miss. I am new to DM Earl and her writing so I have not read the other books in this series, yet, but I was completely able to dive right in and not feel as if I needed those books to enjoy or understand this one. I will be going to dive into them as soon as possible, and look forward to seeing what else we will get in the future from DM Earl.
