This was another fantastic book by this author. It was well written and intriguing. Once I had started reading I could not put the book down. I had to find out how everything was going to play out. This author really keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout this book. She creates so many twists and turns. The characters are really strong and fit the story well. You can clearly see the development throughout the story and I wanted to know more about them. This is a brilliant story and I cannot wait to read more.

Amy’s Rebellion is book one in the Gemstone Massacre series by Julia Goldhirsh. I would consider this a dark urban fantasy. There are plenty of encounters with romance, magic, danger, drama and so much more! I will let you know right now that there is quite a bit of references to the LGBTQ+ community with the gender fluid characters that are introduced in this book. The world that the author has built is a unique feel to it. This is the first book that I have read by Julia Goldhirsh and so I wasn’t sure what I was going to be reading, I wasn’t disappointed, but I really didn’t feel like it was my style of reading. To me the book was very busy, and I had a hard time keeping up with everything that was going on, like I said so much more…lol! I did like that Julia built a world full of fantasy and had some wonderful characters, even though at times I was confused with the pronouns that were being used. I think I would have had a different outlook on the book if I would have known previous to reading it that there was a prequel. Maybe reading the prequel will help with some of the confusion and busyness of the book. Like I said, overall, an interesting story. I think I’m going to have to read the prequel to see if maybe my outlook on this book changes some. All in all, still a book that was very readable.

Pulling together was another great book written by Lois Wickstrom. The Grandmother made a poncho with 3 head holes and her grand daughter thought she made a mistake. Later in the story 3 friends pull together and share it. I think this would be a great book to teach young ones about sharing. I also think it would be great in teaching them how they can come together and use them with each other. It was definitely easy to read.

Gwen has just returned to her hometown of Hoodoo to collect on an inheritance. Her plan is to only remain long enough to sign papers and leave again. For Gwen, Hoodoo holds nothing, but painful memories and she just wants to put the past behind her and leave town as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, things do not go as she had planned when she discovers that there are strings attached to collecting on the inheritance that require her remaining longer than intended. As if that is not enough to deal with, Gwen witnesses a murder and because of her past and subsequent reputation around town she becomes the prime suspect.
I absolutely loved this book and the author’s writing style which really drew me into the story. Not only were the scenes vividly described but the dialogue was brilliant and cracked me up more than once. The characters were ones that I was drawn to, especially Gwen. She was down-to-earth, unstoppable, funny, witty, real, raw, and did not take nonsense from anyone. Gwen is someone that I could easily find myself wanting to hang out with. The town of Hoodoo fascinated me with the fact that it was full of ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and witches. I want to take a trip there to explore the supernatural, starting with the house Gwen inherited. Absolutely amazing book and brilliant writing!

Little Red, The Detective was a nice story twist of The Little Red Riding Hood. I read this one to my daughter also. I didn’t think she would be interested in it, but surprising enough she was. The details in the story was good. I love how the pictures went along with the story on each page. My daughter likes looking at pictures to guess words that she doesn’t know. I recommend this book for children around 6-8 years old.
This book is classified as Paranormal Women’s Fiction, which is an amazing genre that you should definitely check out if you haven’t already.
I am in love with Reggi Dupree’s fast-paced, no-nonsense, creative writing style. Her style along with her satirical character’s personalities and clever dialogue remind me a lot of my favorite author, Daryanda Jones.
The main character, Gwen Carter, is a middle-aged woman of color who is as real as they come and truly a breath of fresh air. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Gwen must return to her hometown that she fled from years earlier. Hoodoo, her hometown, makes her feel abnormal in a town full of odd balls. It’s here that Gwen questions what she is? Who can she trust? How does she deal with the prejudices people believe about her past? She, along with a wonderful cast of diverse secondary characters, search for these answers and more. I can’t wait for the rest of this series, and honestly I plan on reading anything Reggi Dupree writes as she’s an amazing lyrical wizard.

I was thoroughly amazed at the writing in this book. It was so fascinating how the author was able to weave two worlds together in this amazing tale. A world where magic, fae, vampires, suspense, action, passion, love exists and the real world were amazing put together. The characters in this story it was hard not to fall in love and care for what they both have been thou. Connor a vampire that was turned against his will, with so much resentment and hatred, falls in love with a girl that was locked way to keep her safe. Connor does everything on his power to product her as she learns about the world she was locked away from. I was very intrigued with this book and absolutely loved it. This book kept me invested right from the beginning, it’s a page turner for sure, and I couldn’t stop till it was the end. I Recommend this book if you enjoy fantasy and intriguing read.

This was my first book read by this author and I wasn’t disappointed at all. The world building and details was really thought out. The character building I really enjoyed. I know it says for young adults, but I really enjoyed reading Noah’s Not So Super Summer. This was definitely a page turner for me. It was hard to put the book down because I was constantly wanting to know what happened next. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

This is a great children’s science book on how magnetism works. Alex finds uses for a broken kitchen magnet – and from trying out and experimenting with different objects in the house, she realizes how magnets work. Lois Wickstrom is great at using children’s stories to teach about different scientific processes. Highly recommend for a classroom library shelf or a home library.

I cannot explain the fullness I felt after reading Reggi Dupree’s Return to Hoodoo. She ticked off every box and exceeded every expectation I had for this book. Her characters are well-developed, multidimensional, and just full of life and her plot line is the same. I cannot wait for the next installment to see where Dupree takes Gwen and everyone else. I cannot recommend this book enough!

This is the first book in the Boudin, Bourbon, and Barbecue series. This looks like it is going to be a fun series to read. It is full of adventure, mystery, danger, supernatural beings and magic. I really enjoyed this story, I loved Gwen’s character. She is very strong and sassy and after everything she has been through you can understand why she is the way she is. The only downside for me was that I didn’t realise there was a prequel before this story which would have explained the backstory to Gwen, however i will be going back to read this book and the prequel again before book 2. This story is definately a page turner with secrets being revealed and danger along the way. Gwens world is very entertaining with a strange family and all the other creatures only normally found in stories she has a lot to navigate. This story leaves you wanting more and I cant wait for the next book.

This is the second book in the Star- Crossed Celestials Duet series. I personally would highly recommend reading these books in order, so you get the true feel for the story and the character arcs within them. This particular story is a MM twist on Romeo and Juliet. It is filled with the forbidden romance we know well, the parts that hit me were the emotions and inner torment for the characters.
In this wonderful story we meet Alex an inspiring inventor wanting to show anyone can be an inventor. Lois Wickstrom always amazes me with her well-written, exciting stories with great illustrations and a STEM focus. At the end of the story was a few pages all about magnets for children to learn more.

The Traveler series has been amazing from the start. So much depth and thought-provoking circumstance. Book 3 answers so many questions, and allows us to see the strength and growth of Harry. As he embraces his new abilities and works to control them we also see the difficulty that continues to follow him. I had many moments this book took me on an emotional ride, but kept me so excited.

I was hooked from the very first paragraph. Each chapter is a different place and time in the novel. The damaged, complex characters with secrets keep you turning the pages. This psychological thriller makes me wonder how Sloan will piece her life back together from the betrayal, murder, kidnapping, and lies. This wonderful novel digs into family dynamics, loyalty, and forgiveness. I have read other work by this author and she has quickly become a favorite!

The title of this book grabbed my attention right away. Also I’m a huge fan of all things paranormal, so I was pleasantly surprised and thrilled that I quickly became hooked with this story. This book has everything: snarky wit, vampires, witches, inheritance drama, a haunted mansion, werewolves, and a good old mystery.
Gwen Carter is the main character and I gotta say I love her sass. She returns to her hometown much to her chagrin, due to a mysterious inheritance matter. While trying to minimize her stay, she has another run of bad luck, as she witnesses a horrific murder. To make matters worse, she is a possible suspect. She deals with obstacles, sarcasm, ghosts, a handsome ex, and all things paranormal in this book.
This is my first time reading a book from this author and I enjoyed it. I think the main character is easily relatable to most readers and who doesn’t love a strong leading lady? You definitely get the feeling that if you knew her in real life, she would tell you how it is, straight forward, no BS but would never lie and act like she knows everything.
I enjoyed reading a fantastic story with a diverse set of characters and a beautiful atmosphere. I can’t wait to read something, anything else from the author.

This was a thrilling 5 star read. Madeline is worried when she gets a call to go to her fathers assisted living residence. She is surprised to find out that she is needed for a case. I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was coming next and who the mystery person was. As Madeline works through the case will she solve it before anyone gets hurt? I felt like there were several stories going on, it was great. What an exciting conclusion to The Crown of Stones Series! Magic Borne is just as mesmerizing as the first two books in the series. C. L. Schneider pulls the reader in with amazing world-building, realistically flawed characters, and endless emotions and twists and turns. From the beginning of his journey, Ian Troy has intrigued me, infuriated me, and ensnared me in his web of magic. All of the books in this series are not for the faint of heart or for those looking for a short fantasy story. They are lengthy, but grab your attention and hold on tight until the very end! C. L. Schneider creates a world of emotion that is difficult to escape. The characters are unique in that I often found myself upset at something or “hero” did and found myself sympathizing with the “enemy.” That is a truly new perspective for me and any of the books I have read in my life. Often, books are more black and white, while real life rarely is. However, Schneider has created such realism in her writing that it mimics real life’s shades of darkness and light.

REIGN: The Rise of the Lich is the second book in The Silver Blood Knight Series by Carol McKibben. I don’t know why it has taken me so long to discover this author, because after reading this book I now realise that I have seriously been missing out. But I do wish that I had paid more attention when I purchased this and realised that it is the second book in the series. Because I think if I had read the first book before embarking on this adventure, it would have elevated my reading experience even more. So, I will definitely be going back to read ‘REIGN: The Assault of Lucifer Morningstar’ before continuing on with the rest of the series. This is an engrossing urban fantasy, with plenty of action, adventure, danger, dramatic developments, shifter hybrids, wizards, magic, Lycans, paranormal beings, high stakes, sinister agendas, politics, corruption, good vs evil, and the very fate of humanity and the world hanging in the balance. Let’s be honest though, Ms. McKibben already had me at ‘God’s own appointed knight’ and ‘hybrid vampire wolf’…… everything else was just a bonus from there. I love this series! Book 3 did not disappoint! The Innovator made me intrigued of what’s to come. There’s been drama, action, and romance in all the books so far, but it’s starting to peak in book 3. The author wrote a wonderful story about the romance of 2 people, but also the collective danger lurking in the wings for all the characters throughout these books. Book 3 is Grayson and Natalie’s story. Which definitely didn’t start off on the best foot. They argued and got under each other’s skin, at the same time those arguments made them more interested in the other. Natalie is in Providence trying to find out why her father died and why he left her a building. Under an alias she gets a job at the Department of Public Works and Parks to see if she can dig up any info she can on The Prism. Not that it led her to anything but Grayson. Grayson is trying to get his Three Point Park Project off the ground. One problem he needs to get his hands on The Prism building. The other problem is a beautiful blonde(Natalie) who just gets under his skin but he loves to argue with. It’s a constant game of cat and mouse between these two. Until a bet is placed between them. That bet goes hand and hand with their attraction to one another. But what happens when they end up at The Fortress together. A getaway retreat where they are the only two occupying the space. Do they succumb to their desires? What happens when Natalie is threatened by her ex? Does Grayson come to the rescue? What about the never ending threats to Grayson and his friends? They saw something when they were teenagers that could threaten their lives and of those they love even now. Can Natalie and Grayson weather that storm? So much going on and so many questions that come to mind. I’ll reiterate that the author wrote a wonderful story. A story that could be read as a standalone novel because of the romance, however it’s not recommended due to the drama and action. These books are all connected. Each one may focus on a different set of characters but it also focuses on the group of guys as a whole. You will have so many more questions if you don’t start at the beginning. So it’s time. You need to either start this series, trust me you won’t regret it. Or it’s time to jump into book 3 because you read books 1 & 2. The decision is yours!

C. L. Schneider delivers again with Magic Scars, the second book in The Crown of Stones Series! The same memorable, imaginative, wonderfully flawed characters are present in this book. If possible, this book had me more emotionally invested, but also more exhausted. The intensity of the feelings in this book are stronger, the need to triumph more urgent. The vividly detailed world-building is built upon in this second book, and expanded upon. I found myself picturing the countryside, the mountains, the battles. This is such a great book and I cannot wait for the next one!

This was an amazing way to spend my 33rd birthday. This is the was the first book I have read by the incredible Carol McKibben. Before this book I had never heard of her and was amazed by the amount of emotion I felt for the characters from the first page. Yes, this is the second book in this series, but it does not take away from the story. I didn’t read the first book before this one and didn’t feel that I was missing any information or details that would lessen the impact of the overall plot of this book. The book starts with Reign having a vision, watching as the ritual that turned the president of Italy into a Lich. With his kindred Reign, James, Adam, and the Moretti brothers have been anointed by God as his warriors, to protect the Earth from evil. After a run in with several creatures from Greek mythology, the group begin to form a plan on how to rid Rome of the terror that is the Lich. The way the author combines so many different elements together to make one cohesive world is inspiring. Flowing nature like water from one instant to the next, the book has a seamless forward movement that doesn’t keep you waiting too long for answers. While also incorporating the main plot for the third book into the middle of the second book that keeps circling in the current goal as a mystery to handle next, after the lich is gone. Will the group succeed in ending the Lich’s reign over Rome? Can they all make it out of the battle alive? What will happen to Zander? The author truly knows how to entrance the reader, you start the book and before you realize it you finish it craving more. I am beyond excited for the next book in The Silver Blood Series, Reign and the Evil Plagues. In the meantime, I will be going back and reading book one in the series. Also, as this was my first experience with this author, I didn’t know that she was known as the author who writes from a dog’s eyes. With that said the entire book I loved reading the little unconscious actions of Reign, such as randomly standing and spinning in circles mid conversation before returning to his place, never missing a moment.

C. L. Schneider delivers with this dark fantasy! What an amazing beginning to a series. Magic Price, the first installment in The Crown of Stones Series, is full of vivid detail, gloriously flawed characters, and such an imaginative, contradictory (to popular lore) take on magical beings. This complex, well-written story introduces the reader to Ian Troy, a Shinree witch, and his traveling companions. Twists and turns abound, but the story isn’t difficult to follow. There is so much information about each of the warring nations, Magic Price almost reads like a history book rather than a fantasy novel. Of the previous books I’ve read by C. L. Schneider, Magic Price tops the list! I cannot wait to read the next book.

” Wilf’s pulse blocked all other sounds, and his mouth felt drier the closer he moved toward the crystal. He held his hand over it. “What are you waiting for?” Ermentrude knocked his elbow. He swallowed and let his hand touch the crystal’s solid, cool surface. He turned his head to look at the others. “Press harder,” Ermentrude said. Wilf spread his fingers and thrust down on the crystal. A ripple ran over its surface clouding the scene inside. The tips of his fingers plunged below the surface. He yelped and withdrew his hand. “Bat’s blood! Get on with it.” Ermentrude squeezed his hand. He let out the breath he’d been holding and spread his hand over the crystal’s surface once more. Again, his fingers sank through the surface, but this time he refused to pull them back. There was a viscous-like feeling in his fingers, hand, and wrist. His arm was being sucked in. He imagined being dragged under by quicksand or the black mud of some marshland. He looked over his shoulder at Ermentrude. Her eyes were wide, focused on his arm and the crystal. Every part of Wilf screamed to back away, his mind yelling at him to withdraw his arm as his entire arm was pulled into the crystal. His neck and head were going to be next. What would stop him from drowning if he went in any further? He tried to pull out, but it was too late. He screamed just before his body was sucked into the crystal’s depths…. ”
The Vassal of Magic is the third instalment in The Virus of Beauty series by C.B. Lyall. It continues the adventure we began back in book one, so I highly recommend reading the first two books before starting on this one, as knowing what has happened in the previous books will definitely enrich your reading experience of this book, and the series as a whole. This fabulous YA urban fantasy series has such a unique, original, and intriguing storyline and wonderful, quirky characters who really make this story come to life. I can see it making a great TV series too, as there is plenty here to love. Woven with lots of action, adventure, magic, witches, wizards, drama, danger, mystery, suspense, tension, friendship, family, politics, and agendas- this story really grabs the imagination. We follow on from the previous two books and Wilf is still grappling with his feelings towards magic. He really just wants to be ‘normal’ and free- but he can’t even manage to utilize the full potential of his magical powers, so he’s feeling stuck. Then there’s the overwhelming sense of responsibility that’s really weighing heavily in his shoulders. Doubts and fear are definitely holding him back. What happens when he discovers a piece of shattered Mages Crystal- you really should read all the intriguing developments for yourself, because Wilf is about to be challenged like never before and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Adventure awaits….. Again, Ms. Lyall’s wonderful world-building and attention to detail created a fully immersive reading experience that held me rapt right from the get-go. I have enjoyed this series immensely, and without giving away any spoilers, with the way this ended it made me hope that there might be many more magical adventures for Wilf (& Co) to come… If you love a richly woven YA fantasy with superb world-building, engrossing storylines, plenty of originality, action, adventure, emotion, and wonderful quirky characters- then this is definitely the book/series for you. Naomi and Ellie move away after the divorce to try and start fresh. Little did they know that someone was killed and put on their new property. Ellie is supposed to start at a new school soon, but joins the tea club girls to solve the mystery. So much drama happens. It’s great to read! 🙂
