The Crown of Stones: Magic-Price AUDIO BOOKS by C.L. Schneider – Review by Robbyn Perkins

Magic-Price (The Crown of Stones, #1)Magic-Price by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The main character, Ian, has lived in fear of his magic and was afraid to use it. But when he discovers a new threat, he is forced into using his magic once more and rediscovering his abilities.

I really enjoyed the character developments and watching and reading Ian’s ability to adjust and grow with his magic. I also love how the author was able to weave in intrigue and a fantasy world, along with the danger that now approaches Ian and his world. Definitely a great fantasy read!

There is nothing more exciting to me as seeing this third book in this series is all about Emiliana! I awas beyond excited with to read and watch the chemistry between Emiliana and Stefano develop in this amazing book! This book has everything you could want: danger, mystery, violence, secrets, and how can you not love the steamy chemistry?? I am in love with this entire series and this book is another hit!

I loved watching Emiliana develop her strength and ability to overcome traumatic events in her life that involve the mofia boss…who happens to be Stefano’s dad. I also love how strong Stefano is in this book. He has gone through more than anyone should have to and still is a fierce figure in this story.

You get to be a part of the character’s lives as they grow and develop more in front of your eye. More pieces of the puzzle come together from the first book. I have to say that the author did an amazing job tying the two books together. And yet, I want more. Definitely a great read!

Practically Pagan - An Alternative Guide to Magical LivingPractically Pagan – An Alternative Guide to Magical Living by Maria DeBlassie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While, this was not exactly as I was expecting, this was a great read. It reads more as a self-help book, rather than a beginners version of pagan magic. I thoroughly enjoyed this book once I really understood the areas being covered/written about. I love how this book covers really good reminders for the work-life balance. There are areas in this book that cover juggling a career along side with family obligations. Also really good reminders and pointers on becoming the best version of yourself.

Unlikely to Fit (Parker Lake) by Olivia Sherwood – Review by Robbyn Perkins

Unlikely to Fit (A Parker Lake Novel Book 2)Unlikely to Fit by Olivia Sherwood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Unlikely to Fit is the second book in a series and the first book by this author that I have ever read. It is a romantic comedy. And I will say that it serves well as a stand-alone. I felt that reading this for the first time without the first book, it was easy to follow.

The main characters, Breckin and Griff have both recently had heart breaks and are completely starting over. Breckin was divorced. Griff lost his wife in a motorcycle accident. I have to admit that I fell in love with these two characters. But my favorite character development is Griff’s Meemaw. She is funny and kept me laughing throughout the book. I will definitely have to pick up and read the first book in this series!

A Spell of RowansA Spell of Rowans by Byrd Nash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The story takes place in a town named Grimsby where everyone knows one another. The story is told through Vic who left Grimsby 15 years ago under mysterious circumstances and never looked back. This story had me hooked from the beginning to the end.

I absolutely love how the author, Byrd Nash, has interwoven two stories together as one incredible story. One story follows Vic, who is head deep in a criminal trial where the FBI is intimately involved. The second story line follows a family with so many distrustful relationships. The ability to interweave both stories as this one amazing story that is a must read!! Bravo!!

Ashes of Aldyr (The Obscured Throne Trilogy Book 1) by Russell Archey – Review by Robbyn Perkins

Ashes of AldyrAshes of Aldyr by Russell Archey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book that I have read by Russel Archey and it did not disappoint. The first book in a trilogy and it was a perfect start to grab my attention and keep me excited for the next book. I really enjoyed how the author was able to weave a multi-layered story into a dystopian world. I found myself getting lost in this unique writing style.

The world of Alda is broken, destroyed by an event the survivors call “The Rupture.” All the different stories told within this story line forming a larger tapestry that shows the scope of the horror and insanity brought by the elusive and mind-numbing entity known as the Obscure Throne. The world was once saved from this threat and Alda was hidden and sealed away by 55 seals. Now, an ancient and shadowy cult called the Black Gnarl have broken enough seals to expose Alda to the Obscure Throne.

Goddess of EverythingGoddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III

What a great thriller filled with suspense with a unique spin on the writing done by the author. Some of the content in the book were touchy subjects and a little disturbing to get through, such as child abuse and manipulation. But in all honesty, that same twisted darkness is what draws you into the characters developed and the plot that you find yourself getting pulled into. All, in all, I enjoyed this gripping thriller.

As the second book in this series continues on with the characters in which we met in the first book. We get to continue on the character’s journey. I am completely amazed at how the author, James Talisman, ties in each character and so many settings and multiverses, but yet ties them all together with the characters from the first book. As the reader, you are able to explore these multiverses even further and grow with the characters as they take on their each individual journey/beliefs. I cannot say how completely amazed with the writing that takes you through this journey back and forth to these characters and somehow manages to tie it all together!

This first book of the Whispering Pine series, I found it intriguing and thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The main character Jane, gets sucked into this murder mystery that I found myself getting lost in it as well. The one thing that I really enjoyed in the narration of the wonderful story is the wiccan references, such as the beliefs and practices. They were woven into the story line and quite intriguing without being overpowering in this suspense. Also…the cliffhanger at the end will keep you reading the next book in the series. I am so glad that I decided to give this one a try!

Raven Woman's TavernRaven Woman’s Tavern by Laura Koerber
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book is a short paranormal story which I did enjoy, however I think that I expected a bit more. The writing is very good. And the characters have depth. I really started to fall in love with Baylor’s character. I feel like I was missing pieces of the storyline as I was reading. I expected these bits to pop up suddenly, but they never did. I would love to see this a second book. I would definitely want to pick that up and dive deeper into this fantasy world which originally pulled me in.

Baylor is a milita man who seems to be normal in all accounts. He goes out with friends to check out the Raven Tavern, a slow bar in a dying timber town. And they find more than they expect at this little unknown bar.

TaintedTainted by Marsha R West
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a romance book with the idea of being able to get a second chance in life. Liz, the main character, finds herself in a horrific situation when her husband is arrested for money laundering. Although she did not know of his illegal activities, her life is now turned upside down. And everyone assumes her guilt by association. Who could take this for too long? Of course, she needed a break. So she finally decides to retreat to her family’s cabin in the mountains. Here she is reunited with her high school sweetheart.

I am not usually a romance book genre lover, but I have to admit that I fell in love with the character development in this book. Marsha R. West does a wonderful job pulling you into the emotional side of these characters and builds you to want to read more. I am definitely glad that I decided to go outside of my normal book genre. I look forward to reading another book from Marsha R. West.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is definitely a good sci-fi read! I love the futurist tone that it sets. Everyone in the world is forced to wear a chip, which records every aspect of the characters’ lives. Without one, the characters are not able to have a job, bank account , or medical insurance. One day Dr. Cole Westbay wakes up, only to discover that his chip has been removed.

I really did enjoy how the action and adventure unfolded in front you so effortlessly and I found myself lost in this futurist, fantasy world. I would have loved to see a little more depth to the characters, but in this plot and story-line it served this book wonderfully.

As a first time reader of a Kimberly Packard book, I am completely in awe of this book and the story line. I knew from the moment that I read the description of the book that I absolutely had to read it. And Kimberly Packard did not disappoint.

Jimmy Dire is able to give individuals with terminal illnesses who know they will die an opportunity to live out a dream, or a bucket list wish. As sinister and depressing as this may sound at first, how intriguing would it be to live out a bucket list action or dream that you always wanted to fulfill?

The characters are deep and rich, showing you emotions at a whole new level. The book is full of emotions, secrets and adventures. And I could not put this down.

The Girl and the Gargoyle (The Girl and the Raven Book 2) by Pauline Gruber – Review by Robbyn Perkins

The Girl and the Gargoyle (The Girl and the Raven, #2)The Girl and the Gargoyle by Pauline Gruber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The second book in this series starts with our main character, Lucy. The second book follows Lucy further as her new life now unfolds with new adventures as a half-demon, half-witch. Lucy’s father now wants to know her and spend time with her. Since he has not been interested in her before, she is naturally suspicious. Is there a sinister plot at work here? To top it off, Lucy’s boyfriend has family who wants to be part of their lives now as well. With so much family drama, along with supernatural powers and quirky characters such as demons, witches and gargoyles, how could you not enjoy this second book?

The series of books are definitely not stand-alones. They read much better in order. If you have not read the first, you will definitely want to read and learn of Lucy and her history. The first book is a great set-up to understand the character and drive behind Lucy and her new life. I love watching Lucy’s character unfold deeper as these new adventures play out in front of my eyes.
