The story is very well written and you get to follow the timeline through various characters so when you get done, it’s almost like reading 4 different stories. The characters are defined very well and although this is sci-fi, it feels like it could actually happen.

Lab Spill is the second book in this series. You should probably read the first book, The Cool Thing first for maximum enjoyment. There is definitely some dark humor in this series. In this story you are following the adventures of RL, Jayderay, and Frankie. There are two main settings. The first is in Texas, and the second, well that’s in a place called the Waydown. The Waydown is a place that is the remnants of a long-ago abandoned and thought to be sealed off science experiment gone totally wrong, Lab Spills are creatures that have mutated from this area. Jayderay has been given a house known as Roaton. The house’s personality, a lab created person named Proby (who goes by Elvis), and the cast of characters explore what happens with the breastplate/portal between the “topside” and the Waydown in this series installment.

LAB SPILL: A Dark Comedy. Maybe. is the second book in The Cool Thing series. I recommend reading the first book in this series before this one. When I thought the story couldn’t get wilder, the story was continued. This has more twists and turns, fun dialogue, and more. I enjoy the author’s sense of humor and how it is used in the story. For example, I never would think slime could be a character in a story but guess what it can be! If you like a fun, out-of-this-world read then grab this series. I will give look out for more from this author in the future.

Not like my normal style, but now the 2nd book I’ve read by Rife. He definitely has a fun, campy, 80s movie ridiculous kind of vibe. Honestly I’m not a huge fan of what I know of the characters, he makes them easy to dislike. There’s lots of weirdness, “follow me down the rabbit hole” kind of read because it’s fun and most certainly unique. Slime, sci fi, horror, comedy…check it out!

I just adore Robert Rife. He spins such a fun, interesting tale that twists and turns. You laugh, you feel horrified, and you just are bound to enjoy every second. The second book in the Cool Things series didn’t disappoint! Get your quirky on with this crazy tale. I have rethought my idea of having a bad day that’s for sure!

Lab Spill The Cool Thing Series Book 2 By: Robert Rife Review By: Susan Ratchford 5 Stars
RL and Jayderay continue their terrifying adventure! I am completely obsessed with this series! It is full of dark, fun, twisted, and quirky humor with settings and characters to match. Robert Rife creates a weird (in the best sort of way) Sci-fi tale full of unexpected twists and turns and laugh out loud scares. I will now officially be afraid of slime! I really hope there is a book 3. I am not ready for this series to end. I highly recommend this to all lovers of Sci-fi and for anyone who just wants something unique.

Funny and attention-grabbing. This book had me laughing out loud and was a good mix of dark humor, sci-fi, and suspense. The dialog was probably my favorite part of the book. This one was strange but in the best way. I am going to read more by this author in the future! Happy Reading!

This story was a fitting sequel to the first novel. It had nonstop action and surprises. I enjoyed exploring this world a bit more and was excited to reacquaint myself with the characters. This story will not be everybody’s cup of tea but if you want to explore something just a little different I recommend this author and this story.

To say I enjoyed this book is an understatement! It is a unique adventure, that is going to give you laughs, mystery and a good scare from time to time. The dialogue was pretty well thought of, which made for a fun action and page turning book that has scares and adventure. Definitely recommend for a good time! I missed out on the first book of the series, but I can guarantee you that I will definitely be reading that one as well!

I am pretty (read: absolutely) picky about sequels when it comes to series that I like, and I’m excited to say that Lab Spill is even better than The Cool Thing. I still loved reading the first in the series of course, but this one is a gamechanger.
We are right back in the middle of the mutants in the Waydowns of our favorite starship. Poor RL and Jayderay are still kind of exploring their feelings, but also very aware that the medieval suit causing a ruckus in RL’s house. What or who is coming up from the Waydowns?
I liked that we get to explore more inside the starship this time. I highly recommend this book especially if you love sci-fi, dark humor, and general weirdness. You won’t find another read like this and you’ll be clamoring for the next from this author just like I am!

RL and Jaderay return in the second part of this story, RL still has the breastplate and it is currently locked in a safe, but soon a mysterious explosion breaks it and RL has to move it elsewhere, preferably away from Jaderay and all her praying and shouting about it being the devils handiwork, like she does every time she sees it. Meanwhile, in the depths of the Waydowns, the lower decks of a lost starship, an insane doctor, a bunch of mutants and some crazy pulsating mould are moving through the area and becoming ore unstable and unhinged as time goes on, some still look vaguely human and others do not, but the Coiler in particular is slowly moving away from its isolated area, but the creatures down in the bowels of this ancient and forgotten place all have one thing in common, they all need to kill.
As Jaderay and RL explore a new acquisition, they manage to find their way into the Waydowns and have no idea where they are or how much danger they are in, but will they manage to find their way back out, or will this lab spill take their lives, before the other inhabitants get there first? This is a sci-fi which is full of dark humour and darker environments where things crawl and skitter through the darkness to find their next victim in a tale which will equally make you laugh, despair and grimace throughout, but will have you so intrigued you will just have to finish it.

I’ve learned to expect the unexpected with this author’s books. After reading the first book, I dove into this one with an open mind and was ready for another exciting read – I was not disappointed. From the first chapter, I was hooked and drawn back into the world crafted in these pages. This book has more of the author’s blooming creativity and intense writing. Strange and horrifying in a charming and dramatic sort of way, this fantastical sci-fi read is perfect for Halloween and the spooky month we’re in!

LAB SPILL: A Dark Comedy. Maybe. (THE COOL THING SERIES #2) by Robert Rife
This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. Lab Spill: A Dark Comedy. Maybe. Is a great read. This is the second book in The Cool Thing Series. It was a great read and I had a hard time putting it down.
There were once again so many characters to choose from. The one character that stuck out the most was Darren. Yes, he is in the first part of the book. He seems to be a hard-headed person that wants things done right. The quote I chose for Darren is: “The entry point has been fired; we’re going in. I’m taking a crew of three.”

This is the second book in this author’s series. I did not read the first one until after reading this one. I would recommend that you read them in order so that it makes more sense to you. Or at least I wish that I had. This was such a funny, yet gross at times, book. It made me think of Garbage Pail Kids in certain areas. I would not recommend allowing young readers to read this book unless they are into gross morbid oddities. The characters are different. And I mean that quite literally. If you are a fan of horror books or comics like The Walking Dead or Night of the Living Dead then this book is for you. I liked it. I would not however advise giving this book as a gift. It is not a gift giving book. But I do recommend you give it a read if you like monsters, murder, mystery , drama, and laughs.

This book is the second book in “The Cool Thing” Series. At the beginning it is rather slow, but it picks up pace pretty quickly. Lots of trashy, dark humor that will literally make you laugh out loud at times. The dialogue is amazing in this book, makes you feel like you are actually there for the conversations. There are lots of old characters, but also plenty of new ones that are just as weird, funny, and dark. Finally, we have some great exploration from the characters! This second book is by far better than the first!

To say this series is unique is an understatement. If you like sci-fi this is your book for sure. Lab Spill isn’t the type of book I’d normally read but I came across book 1 and it sounded super interesting and the title caught my attention. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would so of course I had to read book 2 and see where the story takes me. Lab spill is a very well written book. It’s funny and the characters are great. The author is definitely in a league of his own.

Lab Spill (The Cool Thing Series Book 2) by Robert Rife. This is the best dark comedy, sci fi read. I loved this first book so I was so excited to read this one. It can be read as a standalone. Just like in the first book this one is no different with lab experiments gone wonky. These experiments leave us with crazy mutants and all kinds of misadventure. All the great characters are back from the first book along with some new ones. This read is twisted, weird and full of murder, mystery, monsters and tons of craziness. Once you pick this book up you will not want to put it down. If you don’t like dark, twisted comedy this might not be for you but I loved it. Can’t wait for the next one!

Comedic madness This book was such an entertaining read. The second book in the series and the madness continues. The fantastical world that this author brings is original and engaging. The laugh out loud moments are interwoven amongst the mayhem, monsters, suspense, action and a strong plot line. This book is fast paced, has dark humour, is creative and is not to be missed.

This is the second book in The Cool Things Series. I enjoyed the first book so was excited to see this one. If you like sci-fi adventures with creatures and experiences you can never imagine then this books is definately for you. There is also dark humour involved which adds a twist to the story and makes it even more entertaining.
We are back in a world of experiments gone wrong and the consequences when they aren’t dead. It is full of danger, mutants, things you can never dream off and things you wish you had never read about but it all comes together to make a very enjoyable and entertaining read.
The author’s creativity with the characters and the story is what really makes this series unique and stand out from other authors of the same genre.
I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Lab Spill is the second book in The Cool Thing Series. It’s definitely worth reading the books in order, starting with The Cool Thing. Things might or might not make more sense that way, but at least you’ll not be spoilering yourself for when you realise that you need to read more and The Cool Thing is right there. If you enjoy dark humour and weird stuff, this is the book for you! Lab Spill brings us a world of failed experiments, many of whom are still alive and some even thriving in the supposedly secure world they’ve been locked away in. You’ve got everything from somewhat mutated humans to full on evil slime. It’s fabulous. The characters in this are great. Messy, often selfish and mostly fairly unlucky. Plenty of favourites from The Cool Thing are back, and there are new characters to get to know as well! Like the first book, definitely not for younger or sensitive readers. You might not want to read it whilst eating, although I managed that fine because I couldn’t put it down and didn’t want to risk starvation! This book gets five stars from me! It’s original, imaginative and incredibly entertaining! If you loved the first book, The Cool Thing, Lab Spill will not disappoint! And if you haven’t read The Cool Thing yet, go read it now!

This book is an interesting take on science fiction. It has dark humor and an interesting plot. The story goes between the ship and Roaton, has creatures, fast paced action, interesting characters a bit of a love story. Lab Spill is a second book in a series, but can be read as a stand alone. While parts of the book were a bit much for me, it was readable and entertaining. If you are a sci-fi fan, you will probably enjoy this read.

LAB SPILL: A Dark Comedy. Maybe. is the second book in The Cool Thing series by Robert Rife. This second instalment is another madcap fantasy, with plenty of comedy, dark humour, suspense, mutants, monsters, mayhem, murder, adventure, action, drama, and entirely engrossing developments. As with the first book, this second book is highly original and very imaginative- Mr. Rife proves to be a fantastic storyteller and knows how to pull his readers into the story, easily able to hold their attention right through till the end. I can’t wait to continue all the madcap fun with THE WAYDOWNS. A Dark Comedy. For Sure…. Coming soon. Happy Reading!

LAB SPILL book 2 in the unique and sarcastic series THE COOL TH ING SERIES. I love black humour and that is what Robert Rife is all about. I love the crazy unpredictable writing that is totally mayhem and madness. Robert makes no apologies which makes it all the better as you are sitting there laughing and gasping for air whilst simultaneously cringing on the inside maybe just a little.
It is satirical horror, sci fi, suspense and all that at its finest. I am wondering why it took this long to discover this little gem called Robert Rife. Anywho carryon! Make sure you grab a copy and prepared to be taken on a zany ride into the unknown. I was completely intrigued and enthralled and hoping there is another book I can get my hands on.
If you love a fast-paced and totally uncouth tale then this black humour read is for you.

This book is the follow up to the first in the Cool Thing series and it is just as add and different and strangely captivating as the first book. This is nothing like anything I had ever read before. It is strange and fun, mysterious and intriguing. It is one of those books that I couldn’t look away from once I started. This isn’t a book I would usually read but, having read the first, I knew I just had to see what the author would do next. This is an odd but great book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The Lab Spills abandoned in the Waydown, along with RL and Jayderay, will keep you laughing and entertained! This is a must read!

When I heard there was a sequel to The Good Thing, I knew I had to read it. I wasn’t disappointed. The adventures of Proby, RL, Frankie, Jaderay and the rest of the gang will have you chuckling, smiling, giggling, and running the gamut of emotions. This is the weirdest, funniest, oddest science fiction/fantasy, comedy novel that I’ve read. I’ve really enjoyed it. The author has a way of writing that you might connect with or might not. I like twisted humor so this was my cup of tea. I couldn’t put this down. I hope this author will delight us with some of this writing. I’ll be watching.

The book is a book that can be read alone just fine, but to get the full enjoyment of this freaking fantastic author, I suggest you read the first as I did. The book is unique and special in more ways than one. It is nothing like what I have read in my lifetime. The characters are funny and weird in their own special way tat really makes the story, the book captivated me and intrigued me as much at the first book did! This one had tons of twists and turns, maybe even more than the previous! The humor was perfectly done in this one, if not even better than the previous! Perfectly written. Love this author’s writing! Love this book!
I cannot say more good and awesome things about this author! I love how they write and create these books I have come to love. Cant say enough good things! A must read highly recommend the book/author!

An odd couple— lost in the Waydowns. Lost in the toxic, creature infested lower levels of an ancient, buried starship. A Coiler is coming. It ain’t friendly… it’s hungry. Escape seems impossible, rescue unlikely, and a quick death too much to hope for. RL and Jayderay are having one of those days. It won’t last long.
Robert Rife loves (and writes) dark comedy science fiction and horror; the more weird, twisted, strange, odd, irreverent, ribald, and funny scary it is… the better. Just like him. And he thrived for years in the same legalized thievery as his ethics bereft protagonist. Plus, having been married and divorced twice, he’s been told tons about NOT being human. Yes, tons. He could write a book. This scribbling reptile is a great dad, miserably failed husband, all around horse’s butt, and (almost) Best Selling Author.

I enjoy books that make me question the author’s intentions. I think the extended title, “A Dark Comedy Or Not,” kind of answers this. I read this book during a time that I was going through some intense personal struggle, and it definitely helped me escape my reality. There is a diverse cast of characters in The Cool Thing. Many of them have baggage, and that helps to make them relatable and highlights the humor in the story. Mr. Rife did a fantastic job in creating this comedy that included monsters and aliens. It is a good start to the series.
