Shadowed Deception: A Psychological Suspense Thriller (Shadow Defense Security Book 3)Shadowed Deception: A Psychological Suspense Thriller by Mavery Ellscott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A gripping psychological thriller with plenty of suspense and romance and a touch of humour. Investigative journalist, Finlay Giammarino has an article fit for the front page, but it has also put her life in danger. She wants to expose the owner of a trendy nightclub in the heart of Paris, as she’s discovered it is a front for a human trafficking ring. It is also the only lead she has to finding her friend’s missing sister. Finley is determined to bring the men at the top to justice, and so in desperation asks former Navy SEAL, and journalist hater, Drake Reeves for help. The pair then find themselves immersed in a world of secrets and lies but to find the truth they must unravel the deception. This was a real fast paced, page turner with an action-packed storyline and plenty of plot twists which kept me hooked. Both the characters and the setting come to life through the descriptive narrative making me feel immersed in the story. It is the third instalment in an enjoyable and exciting series of standalone novels.

This story is fun and kept me at the edge of my seat wondering how Marcy was going to handle everything thrown at her! Marcy is a costume designer for a particular play set in the 60s and encounters obstacles at every turn. The well-developed characters’ interactions with each other weave the story together dramatically. Paranormal, romance, intrigue – a little bit of something for everyone. It is a book that I dove into and barely came up for air. It was done way too fast! I definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to get my hands on another from this author!

Divinely Dramatic (Divine Vintage)Divinely Dramatic by Sandra L. Young
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this wonderfully divine sequel, we get more insight into Marcy, the store clerk from Divine Vintage, and we meet Mike, the sexy director who has a rather nasty girlfriend and, in turn, is rather grumpy. I love the continuance of the paranormal aspect and this time it’s Marcy who is being called on to help the spirit in need. I think I liked this one a bit more ONLY because the plot line interested me more due to the particular play (The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde) that Young chose for her storyline. I enjoyed the character development (as individuals and otherwise) and I also really enjoyed getting to see characters that we previously got to know in the first book. If you are looking for a paranormal mystery romance with a bit of a grumpy/sunshine trope then this is defiantly the book for you! This is the second book in the series and I feel that you can read it as a standalone…but honestly why would you want to miss out on another great book so just go read the first one too 🙂

Divine Vintage is the intertwined love story of Tess and Trey and Edward and Phoebe. Tess and Trey meet when Trey and his grandmother, Esther, come into Tess’s newly opened vintage clothing store. It’s a whirlwind from there when a literally spark between Tess and Trey ignites a shocking revelation in Trey’s family’s murder-suicide of Phoebe and Edward. Young’s ability to seamlessly go between the storylines of the characters is flawless and amazing. I loved how she is able to rope the reader in from the beginning and keep the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end. This story has it all…intrigue, paranormal, love, suspicion, romance, and mystery all wrapped up in a neat little package. I can’t wait to see what awaits the other characters in the upcoming books in the series.

The Mating Chance (Long Claw Pride Series Book 3 and LumberCats Series Book 2) by Brooke May – Review by Jennifer Gordon

The Mating Chance (Long Claw Pride)The Mating Chance by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An enjoyable shifter romance with a second chance at love theme which had me hooked throughout. Male mountain lion shifters must follow their instinct to find their mate when the call comes, and this usually only happens once. Boone Claw works as a log faller alongside his brother and lives a bachelor lifestyle surrounded by his crazy cousins. He has watched his family members all settling down having succumbed to the mating call, and so is thrilled when he finally gets it himself. Going on instinct he heads west and finds his mate, Cricket Adams. However, she is shocked when the call strikes her for the second time, as she has already found her mate and started a family with him. She cannot believe that fate would give her a second chance, having taken her mate away and left her as a single mother. When she meets Boone, she is in denial and rejects him despite their obvious connection. However, Boone is determined to convince Cricket to overcome her reservations. I was fully immersed in the world of mountain lion shifters, which the author has created through the wonderfully descriptive narrative. The chemistry between Boone and Cricket really came across and I liked the slight twist on the usual fated mate’s theme.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is an interesting take on shifters and mates. It is the first one that I have read where there is a second mating and I loved the idea of it all. The author has taken a well done trope and played with the concept that true love doesn’t just happen once.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. They had an obvious connection right from the start, despite the obstacles they were facing. I thought it was great watching their relationship develop and I loved getting to know them. This is a great addition to the series and I am looking forward to seeing what else is to come.

4.5 stars

The Mating Chance is a fantastic second chance romance tale and the second book in the Long Claw Pride series. I really enjoyed the first book The Mating Call in this series and couldn’t wait for this book to come out. Make sure you read the first book because like this book it is full of paranormal goodness. It’s my first love in genre.
The world that Brooke has created is one that makes you want to be there and experience what they do. It is so easy to imagine and get lost in.
This captivating paranormal romance story is set in a small town where mountain sexy lion shifters live, and soul mates are eagerly sort after. They are wild, absolutely crazy, and most definitely a lot of fun and you can’t help but fall in love with them.
With plenty of passion, action, drama, hopes, needs, wants and love and mix it up with fate and you have one explosive read that you just can’t put aside until you have devoured every inch of it.
Cricket had it all then it was horribly ripped away from her. Now when a second chance with fate comes along, she doesn’t believe it is true.
Boone just wants what everybody has and that is the answer to the Call. Now that it has happened, he must convince them that fate has given them a second chance.
I can’t wait for what comes next.

The Mating ChanceThe Mating Chance by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This has been one of my favorite series to read. The concept of getting another mate after the one you were lifemated with was really interesting. Cricket is a fiercely independent single momma that was settled into her thinking she would be alone forever now, then BAM, here comes the pull. Boone is trying to avoid his cousin, Sheridan, the bikini-clad wildcat that always needs her jeeps repaired when his pull comes. He takes his leave and follows his pull. I find that amazing because they take such faith and go (yes, it’s just fiction but still). When these two meet up, the chemistry and sparks are there, he just has to get her to accept. I loved reading this story. These prides are full of personality. The elders that the characters talk to are wonderful and wise. When Cricket takes her little one out for a run, I couldn’t help but think of a certain movie. It’s a bittersweet romance that comes with a happy ending that has beautiful characters and always brings a smile and chuckle. I’ll be eagerly awaiting Afton’s turn.

I have read a couple of books from this author and she continues to blow my mind. This is the second book in the very addictive series Hidden Valley. I love good enemies but lovers’ stories and this one is in my top three. These books need to be read in order or you will be totally lost. I love how this author writes from both of the characters’ points of view. It makes me feel more emotionally connected to them. I can’t wait to read book three.

I am really enjoying this series and am hoping that there will be more books to enjoy! This author is making her way to my favorites list also. I enjoy her writing style and the stories that she weaves.

This book could be read as a stand alone but I would recommend you starting at the beginning of the series to get the full story on how Shadow Defense came to be.

This story started off just a tad slow for me but that was short-lived. I soon found myself lost in the story and read this all in one setting. There is a lot of action and suspense with a little bit of romance thrown in. You’ll find yourself loving a character then hating them the next page. This book does discuss some difficult issues so use caution if this would bother you.

A great read that goes by quickly!

Divinely Dramatic (Divine Vintage Series, #2)Divinely Dramatic by Sandra L. Young
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second book of the ‘Divine Vintage series’ but can be read as a stand alone. The first book was mainly about Tess while this one is about Marcy.

Marcy took on a job for her friend to costume a period-era play. Upon arrival, she is met with reluctance from the director, Mike. Marcy has a talent for reading auras and his aura was always red with annoyance around her. On top of that, the first time she enters the area where she will be working, she sees what can only be described as a ghostly aura. She enlists help from Tess, who has the gift of visions from clothing and they set off to try and discover who passed away and how.

The lead role of the play is suddenly open and it’s up to Marcy to fill that role. Being the artist she is, no way can she pass up this opportunity. So now she has three tasks at hand, plus there seems to be some electricity between Mike and Marcy even though they are opposites. Even though he technically has a girlfriend, it doesn’t stop the confusing feelings coming from both ends.

Will Marcy be able to complete her original job, steal the show, help the ghost, AND get the man?

I enjoyed the first book of this series which was actually the debut novel but I found the speech a little stiff in some areas. This book was written much better speech wise. Again the author was able to make vintage fashion exciting and mysterious with a splash or romance. The main characters have unique abilities which makes it much more intriguing to read.

Holy rollercoaster ride! There was SO much packed into this book. I have read all of the previous installments and couldn’t put this one down towards the end. When you learn the history and background of all the characters, and the story all falls into place, you won’t be able to put it down. Every single character in this book has some type of character development and while this is a “high school romance” it doesn’t feel that way. I love Riley. I think she is a great main character. She’s very intuitive and hardly goes against what she is feeling. She has a great head on her shoulder. Cole’s transformation was incredible to see as he started to be honest with himself. While this book does have a little bit of spice to it, the storyline really takes the cake.

Savage Truth is book number two in The Hidden Valley Elite series of books, but is the conclusion to Riley and Cole’s story. The whole series should be read in order. Savage Truth was a super quick, suspenseful, slightly confused, rollercoaster, high school romance. There is no doubt this author can write, she can spin a story and pack what seems like a lot in such a short amount of pages, I just felt like doing so causes some scenes to feel a little disjointed, but not enough that I wouldn’t continue. I like how it alternates view points because I always like to hear from both main characters, and the chemistry between the characters was intense. I’m interested to see where the author takes the series next.

Cole and Riley are now forced to live in the house together. Cole is plotting how to get rid of Riley and her mom, Riley is trying to convince her mom to leave. I was left torn in two yearning for everything this book could be but disappointed but the repeated actions. However I suppose it coincides with the fact that they are high school students. They sure act like it.

The storyline was promising I just felt it was lacking and could’ve been really robust.
