Finding Starlight: A Small Town, Romantic Suspense (The Quimby Grove Series Book 1) by Shannon Nikole – Review by Tanya Wall

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What a sweet story! It got me hooked when the setting included a bookstore – Starlight Books! The characters are likeable. Ellawyn, Beckett, Max and Benji are the kind of people I’d like to hang out with. A love story with some twists and turns set in a small town where community looks after one another.
While Ella and Beck are the main characters, I was drawn most to Benji. His personality, desire for Ella and Beck to hit it off and the way he faced his illness made me want to go be by his side throughout the story.
I do wish that the story went a little slower – things heated up way too fast for the real world. But all in all, this is a great summer read with a little romance, lots of emotions, and great friendships.

Devil’s Breath by Lang Johnson – Review by Sara Grantham

Devil's BreathDevil’s Breath by Lang Johnson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Right from the first chapter, this book was dark and sultry and addictive. This isn’t your typical romance novel – it has drugs, murder, betrayal, secrets, lies, and pain. But it also has longing, attraction, lust, and love. All of the feelings in Devil’s Breath felt organic. It was not over-the-top cheesy, but it still showed an instant connection between Cassius and Sera that only kept building and deepening, even when that made everything more complicated. After all, nothing is easy when you are falling for someone you are meant to kill.

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series (A Dark Sparrow Novel) by India Kells – Review by HELEN DAWKINS

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book SeriesDark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series by India Kells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Absolutely best series/box set ever! The series includes 6 books, starting with Lost Bastard, then follows Cold Bastard, Wild Bastard, True Bastard, Dark Bastard, and King Bastard. I highly recommend this box set. What is better than getting all of the books in one set? The books are romantic, steamy, and action-packed drama. Each character went through their own trials, but the family always sticks together to fight their evil father.

Book 1
This book was a serious page turner, and constant mystery of “what will happen next?”. The book is based off the mob/mafia underworld and the twists and turns are bountiful. The character building is amazing and it’s very easy to get attached to each character. Literally no one can be trusted. Deva is on the run from her father because she was sold off to the underworld. She has now started a new life as a physical therapist, that is until a favor is needed to be collected upon by the woman who rescued her. Beatrice runs a “company” called Purgatory and she refers to her agents as “Dark Sparrows”. She has called upon them to help out a friend, Lazarus King, to help find and protect his “bastard” brothers his evil father has “sired”. Deva is definitely an amazing badass woman, but everyone has that something to make them tick. First of the brothers to be found is Alexksei, who ends up being Deva’s weakness. A brilliant first book to an amazing series.

Book 2
The second book was filled with steamy romance and action. Zoe is such a strong and independent woman; she is also an excellent translator. She comes to work for a man named Archer as a “Dark Sparrow” and the intensity is insane between them. The “evil father” Finch is more active in the background in book 2 than he was in book 1. This book is a little on the darker side of romance. Has lots of unexpected events.

Book 3
This book is all about second chances with Kai and Izzy. There are an immense number of secrets between the two of them, which slowly drives them apart. Again, the book had a good mix of romance, action, drama and danger. Kai is a strong alpha and Izzy is his weakness, and after bringing him to his knees, he vows to never let anyone, or anything affect him that way again. Izzy is the owner of a PR firm. She is approached by Jamison Finch (the evil father) to help him, but she does not know if it is a good idea to work with him or not.

Book 4
“True Bastard” is between Liam and Catriona. Liam is headstrong and determined to be absolutely nothing like his father. He will do anything for Catriona even though his mind pulls him to do something different. Catriona has a heart of gold, and brings happiness to everyone she meets, she is also a Nun. In this book a bigger picture is given on the brothers and the past and present father issues.

Book 5
This book will invoke insane feelings of anger towards Finch. Ellie is a 911 operator, and on the brink of an emotional and mental crisis. Sam’s past is a large focus in this book. The accidental call that Sam makes to Ellie may actually be what saves them both from utter turmoil or will be the cause of their destruction. Dark Sparrows are not used in this book, and you do not hear from Gabrielle at all.

Book 6
Excellent ending to the series. Finally, you get more of a glimpse of Lazarus and what may or may not be his happy ending. Sasha is an independent woman, but Lazarus seems to think she needs constant protection. The ending is a little anti-climactic BUT wraps up the story in a nice bow. This is a must read.

Vive la Resistance (Donovan Trait Book 3) by Seelie Kay – Review by Beverly Finnie

Vive la ResistanceVive la Resistance by Seelie Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this series! I also love this author!
Vive La Resistance! I say that with authority as if I’m involved. Because that’s exactly how this author makes you feel. That you are the half-breed fighting to survive!
Donovan Trait is back! He’s one of my favorite Vampire character’s ever written, but I digress. We are at war, the Coalition vs Trait’s. Well it started out that way. But as you read through book three in the Donovan Trait series, you begin to realize it’s bigger than revenge and silencing the Trait’s.
Now don’t take me saying war lightly because yes there may be some fire power, this is more cyber and technological warfare. Headed by the Lynx, he and his team find a way to get the messages out to half breeds. First starting with subliminal messages, then creating an app for protection, as well as creating units of humans to unknowingly keep the half breeds safe.
Do they succeed?
What other obstacles present themselves?
Who will come out the victor of this war?
Just a few questions and as you read I’m sure you will have others.
Also another big theme throughout is vampire infertility, and why all the sudden one day it ceased to exist.
The author does a fabulous job tying the two themes together in an unexpected way. She has a knack for that type of writing. It keeps you interested and guessing. You will not want to put this book down. But you must start at book one if you haven’t, it will be so worth it! I guarantee you will fall in love with Donovan Trait just like I have!

Vive la Resistance (Donovan Trait Book 3) by Seelie Kay – Review by Jenni Bishop

Vive la ResistanceVive la Resistance by Seelie Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Seeing a new book from Seelie I could not wait to grab it and get reacquainted with old friends.

Donovan Trait is back in this original twisted paranormal Vampire romantic suspense tale. It is the third book in the series and a it only gets better. This is one series that you want to read the books in order to ensure you get the whole story. Not everything is doom and gloom. Seelie ensures to inject her humour throughout as only Seelie can.

Just to recap;

In book 1 – Donovan Trait is a lawyer who loves the lime light and a vampire. He loves a human and now they have a killer on their hands.

In book 2 – Donovan Trait and his bride are pregnant on the run when ancient Vampire law let them down.

Vampires, Donovan Trait and his wife are still on the run from the Vampire Coalition and the despots who don’t want half-blood babies to taint their true blood world. What they don’t count on is the other half bloods are coming out of the woodwork to claim their place in the Vampire Nation.

What ensues is a bloody, bloody war, or does it? You will have to grab this series/book and find out. You will not be disappointed.

Seelie said “Things are gonna get messy…” and they certainly do.

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove Book 1) by Shannon Nikole – Review by Jess Dimmock

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A beautiful story of growth and grief.
Our story centers around Ellawyn, a woman trapped in a relationship that’s abusive, her escape from it, and how she learns to grow and heal from it.
It’s about Benji, an old man with a beautiful soul who recognizes the battered yet beautiful soul in his bookstore every day, and the bond of kinship they form.
It’s about Beckett, the driven man who comes home to the bookstore he loves to be with his grandfather, and the woman he discovers and is captivated by.
These three characters interweave into a masterpiece that talks about grief in different forms and how we heal from it. There are some scenes that could definitely be triggering for survivors of abusive relationships, and deals with stalkers as well, so be prepared. This tale doesn’t pull its punches, but it doesn’t use them as the sole storyline either.
This is a well written masterpiece that will only get better with each re-reading.

This box set was phenomenal! Each of the brothers were sexy and fierce and the romance was perfect. I loved each book individually and felt that they all went together so well. The spice was magnificent and all of the FMCs were totally badass women that were able to handle their men just right. I don’t know if I could ever pick a favorite man since each one of them is so hot and unique. I love that in this box set you get all of them for the price of one!

Half-bloods are already treated like dirt by the Vampire Nation. They have been subjected to centuries of discrimination and cruelty at their hands. As the Coalition embarks on a campaign of terror, destruction, and slaughter, millions of half-bloods emerge from the shadows, ready and willing to reclaim their place in the Vampire Nation. The problem is, war cannot be unleashed out in the open in the human world. Battles must be fought in other ways. Devil’s Breath by Lang Johnson – Review by Jessica Stone

Devils breath is a book about Sera Dwari, brilliant chemist and assassin who has created a new drug called Devil’s Breath using her degree in chemistry. She’s cold and ruthless and will stop at nothing to make her criminal father proud and full-fill his wishes. That is until she meets her unknowing benefactor Cassius. Cassius Batista is a ruggedly Hansom billionaire from a small town in Wyoming, all he wants to do is live his life out in the world doing the things he enjoys, hiking, rock climbing, anything for some adrenaline. Unfortunately Sera has been hired by someone close to Cassius to kill him but as time goes on and she gets to know her next mark more and more, she’s starting to doubt she can kill him, or stop herself from falling in love with him…

Absolutely Terrific book! Brilliant writing! Positively in love with the character building from this author. The cold collected facade presented by Sera to everyone that covers up the sad girl underneath, who just wants to make her father proud and pay him back for the life he gave up for her.

On the flip side there’s Cassius who’s all out there from the get go, a honest up front guy with A plus qualities. But Cassius is not just some pretty, rich man, he’s smart and cautious, and that caution is telling him that there’s more going on then what Sera showing him and everyone else.

Lies, deception, love, family, betrayal, this book has it all to suck you in and keep you waiting and wondering what’s going to happen on the next page. A slow burn that builds up to a crescendo, shattering hearts and family’s.

The moment I started the book, it was like I was reading a book by Nicholas Sparks taking place in Stars Hollow, the town in Gilmore Girls for those not aware. It did not take long for me to fall in love with the main characters, similar to many characters I’ve read about in other books but with the authors own original twist on things.

As with most romantic suspense novels, it did not take me long at all to finish this book. The author did an amazing job at painting the chemistry between Ellawyn and Beckett, and it didn’t take me long to begin rooting for more to happen between them. That and the additional suspense of Ellawyn’s past life catching up with her made my heart race through the entire book, and the ending certainly didn’t disappoint. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

This is a lovely romance story. Ellawyn is a woman running from her former life with her abusive ex-boyfriend. She starts a new life in Quimby Grove and spends her days in a quaint bookstore cafe. She forms a beautiful friendship with the owner and develops a relationship with his grandson Beckett. This book was beautifully written and very sweet. I really enjoyed the progression of the relationship between Ellie and Beckett. I also adored the friendship between her and Benji. This book has enough drama to keep you interested but there is still a lot of romance. Romance in a small town is where it’s at. A wonderful read!

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can’t believe this is a debut book for this author!! The characters, the writing, and the details had me hooked from page one. I want to go find my own Quimby Grove, Starlight, and even Beckett. The small-town charm of Quimby Grove made me feel like I was in the middle of a Hallmark movie with a twist of mystery. This book was amazing!!
Ellawyn is running away from her former life in Maine, everything she grew up with. But she must do this to protect herself. Settling in the small town of Quimby Grove, Ellawyn finds herself drawn to Starlight bookstore and even the owner Benji. Keeping to herself, Ellawyn spends all day at the bookstore just trying to keep herself safe. Benji calls upon his grandson for help when things take a turn for the worse.
Benji is the only family Beckett has so when Benji needed him it was a no-brainer to head back to Quimby to help take care of him and the bookstore. What Beckett never had in mind was meeting Ellawyn. It was hard at first since she was not quick to open up but Beckett was there for the long haul to take care of Benji so he was patient.
This book definitely has a dark turn of events but it will have you on the edge of your seat, laughing, biting your nails in suspense, and even crying!! Can’t wait to see what came next for this talented author.

I was a little unsure what to expect going in to this book – the description didn’t particularly grab me but the reviews were all good. I am so glad I gave it a go. This was a refreshingly unique read. It isn’t often you get a female lead as strong and fiesty as Sera. It was so easy get pulled in by her. It felt like the whole story centred around her.
The story was well written. It was exciting and engaging. I found myself swept up by what was happening and the chemistry between the characters. This is a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

This is the first-time reading, Lang Johnson; Devil’s Breath is a great read. Sera and Cassius have a love story that you aren’t sure how it’s going to end. Sera is a strong female main character. She is strong, sexy, and an assassin to top it off. Cassius is a rich smart man. He is a strong male character to match Sera. If you are looking for a great romantic action-packed thriller this is the book for you. I can’t wait to see what Lang Johnson puts out next.

This was a very well written romantic suspense. Both main characters, were written expertly, and wonderfully. Both are strong in their own right and still had their weaknesses that were relatable. Sera is an assassin, known as the Ice Queen rightfully so. She has a cold exterior that allows her to do her job efficiently and quickly. Cassius, is an outdoorsman with a good head on his shoulders and is tired of constantly bailing his brother out. Both worlds collide in the most fantastic way possible and I loved every single minute of it!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thought this was a great first novel for Shannon Nikole – it was entertaining, romantic, nostalgic, and tense! Hard to believe she wrote it in such a short period of time! The author did a great job of developing the scenarios the characters were in to make them relatable and realistic. I was particularly impressed with the details – down to who chose what to eat at the restaurants. It gave the book a unique immersion feel.

I absolutely love the setting of a small town and bookstore. The relationships the characters develop with each other are sweet and swift. Ellewyn is a character you can’t help but like immediately and I like that each character remains true to themself throughout. It was suspenseful, tragic and hopeful all at once.

Make sure you read the trigger warnings, the details are specific and graphic, resonating especially with those who’ve dealt with similar situations. Looking forward to the next book in the series!!

Finding Starlight: A Small Town, Romantic Suspense (The Quimby Grove Series Book 1)

I was hooked from the beginning and I honestly don’t know what it was that got me.  Was it Ellawyn and her back story?  Was it Benji and how he made everyone feel like family earn they were at Starlight Books, especially Ellawyn?  Was it Beckett droppibg everything tge moment his grandfather asked?  Not sure, but I couldn’t get enough.

I wanted to hug Ellawyn the moment flipped to page two and it never ended.  She’s an amazingly strong woman though she definitely doesn’t see the strength and continues to focus of what she thinks are weaknesses.

Beckett is every grandparents dream,  the moment his grandfather Benji called he dropped everything in Boston and went home without a second thought.

I loved watching Ellawyn grow and come out of her self imposed shell as time passes.  Benji had a lot to do with that, but it was so much more than that.

I was surprised to see this was the first book by this author.  If this is what she gives us the first time, I’m really excited to read the next book.

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions with big dips and breezy, weightless highs that left me with mixed feelings. I really enjoyed reading about Ellawyn and her journey to self-discovery in Quimby Grove. I loved that the author made her a strong, independent character and someone who perseveres through some really heavy life circumstances. The friendship she forms with Benji, and then Beckett and Max, was so sweet and genuine. A definite tear-jerker of a book, and I have a lot of respect for an author that can elicit emotion from his/her readers. I’m probably going to need a couple more days to process it all.

This book is absolutely one of my new Favorite. I love Ellawyn, she is so strong for knowing it’s better to get out then staying put with someone who is abusive. It sucks that she had to leave he family behind just to get away. I like Beckett because he loves his pops and uproots his life to be with him during this difficult time. He is so funny when he sees Ellie for the first time, he thought something was going on between the two. I love love love this book so much and hope there is more to come.

I’ve read plenty of India Kells’ books over the years and this series is one of my favourites. Each book in this set is about one of six bastard sons.

#1
I enjoyed the Chicago setting. This is a great romance thriller with plenty of angst and suspense. I loved the writing style and I loved all the characters. Highly recommend!

#2
This is the second book in the Dark Sparrow series and I loved it as much as the first. There was lots of action and suspense, and it kept me turning the page the whole way through. I love the way the author writes her characters with a lot of depth and complexity, as it makes for compelling stories. Highly recommend.

#3
I love any book by India Kells, including this one. There’s plenty of tension and intrigue, as usual, but I also liked how the characters felt less “alpha” in this one. This one had a great storyline that kept me turning the pages. This is a great romantic thriller to read.

#4
This was a great book! There was plenty of action, chemistry between the characters, and lots of suspense. I really loved the danger and intrigue of this book. This was definitely a page-turner.

#5
I’ve read several of India Kells’ books and I love their romantic suspense, especially in this Dark Sparrow series. In this novel, Sam and Ellie are drawn to each other by a connection where sparks fly immediately, but they both have dark pasts that they have to overcome to be with each other. I felt like I wanted more depth, as this was quite a short read and the resolution seemed too easy. Overall, a quick romance read.

#6
Knowing this was the last book of the series, this was just a fun read and I liked how it wrapped up the series. It’s still full of tension, suspense, mystery, and of course romantic chemistry as with all the previous books in the series.

Every book in this series is full of action and great characters, highly recommend!

This is a new author with her first book and I’m very happy that I chose to take a chance on this author, as I’ll definitely be reading more of their work and I can’t wait for the next book in the series. The characters are well written and their quirks make them feel real. The plot was also great.
Ellawyn Calloway is finally able to breathe a little easier after leaving her old life behind. Quimby Grove, Pennsylvania is the perfect place for a fresh start and Starlight Books, a quaint bookstore café where she spends all her time. She develops a friendship with the elderly shop owner, Benji.
Benji requests that his grandson, Beckett Walden, return to Quimby Grove for a visit and everything changes. Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove Book 1) by Shannon Nikole – Review by Karyn Taylor

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a fantastic contemporary romance that I totally lost myself in and loved reading. This was a new author to me and I’m very glad that I chose to take a chance on this book, as I’ll definitely be reading more of their work. In particular, I’m looking forward to reading more from this series.
One thing I don’t comment on much when writing reviews is the book cover. But this book has the very handsome Kamil Nizinski on the cover and that is always a plus point for me. Hero of the book, Beckett’s description matches that of cover model Kamil, so I was able to imagine just how Beckett looks when reading this. A very nice vision to have.
As characters, I adored Ellawyn (Ellie) and Beckett. I also have to add that I totally fell in love with Benji too. His role I the book is just as important, if not more important, than Beckett and Ellie.
This book had everything you need. I laughed and I cried. There is romance and sexy times but there is also drama and danger. The story just pulls you in and doesn’t let you go. I really can’t wait to see what this author has next for the residents of Quimby Grove.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I didn’t need another series to occupy my time but I found one anyways. The author had me entranced from the prologue. I am looking forward to Max finding his love.

Ellawyn is on the run. She decided to settle in a small town in the middle of nowhere to see if she could live again, under the radar. When Ellawyn rolled into town the Starlight Books called to her. Upon entering the store, she met Benji, the owner. Benji is a sweet old man that is replacing the family Ellawyn had to leave behind. When Benji reveals some extremely private information to Ellawyn, he tells her that his grandson would be coming into town to help him. Ellawyn had no idea the profound ways her friendship with Benji would affect her life.

Beckett has built a successful business outside of Quimby Grove. Except for his grandfather and Starlight Books, he is not even sure that it is home anymore. Beckett discovers that his grandfather spends time with a mysterious woman who camps out all day in the book store. Beckett is pulled towards her like a magnet. Can Beckett’s friendship be enough to pull Ellawyn out of the ashes of her former life?

Amazing start to a brand new series. Laughs, Love, Mystery, and just enough steam. Count me in for the next Ice Festival!!

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove Book 1) by Shannon Nikole – Review by Angelina Frazzini

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole

This book is book one of the series. I could NOT put this book down!

Ellawyn arrived in Quimby Grove haunted by her past. That’s where she found Starlight Books. Everyday she goes to Starlight Books and spends all day soaking up the feeling of safety she feels from the store and from Benji. Benji confides in Ellawyn that he’s sick and his grandson will be coming home. Little does Ellawyn know, meeting Beckett will change everything. Beckett doesn’t know exactly what he’s getting into when he goes home to Quimby Grove. He has no idea that his visit might just extend longer than he thinks. When he sees Ellawyn, he finds it odd that she spends the entire day at the store but also acknowledges that there is something magnetic about her. Ellawyn and Beckett start spending a lot of time together but something sinister is lurking. Will they be able to rely on each other and make it through the trials ahead?

I absolutely loved this book! I cried, I laughed, I loved. I don’t have enough great things to say about this story. Ellawyn is strong and brave and Beckett, while he is a fixer, recognizes her need to be a bit independent as well. These characters have incredible chemistry and I loved following their journey!

This book had both great romance and the suspense to keep you turning pages! Ellawyn is so sweet and kind hearted. Sometimes you can become bitter after certain events in your life, but not her. Benji is the best and has a such a beautiful soul. Beckett is so patient and takes after Benji with his amazing heart. Quimby Grove sounds like that perfect small town we would all love to live in!
