The Kidnapping by Linda Burson – Review by Kerry Baker

The KidnappingThe Kidnapping by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is an entertaining and fun story with a suspenseful element added to it. I didn’t expect to find myself so amused by this book and yet time and again the characters and the story had me smiling. I thought the storyline was really well developed. It intrigued me right from the start and that lasted through the whole book.
Linda Burson is an author that I tend to come back to every now and again and every time I do I am glad. Her books are well written and just a joy to read, this being no exception. A great book.

I had so much fun reading this book. I loved the unexpected twists throughout, it’s more than your average romance novel. The switching POV was a great addition to the story, making me feel like I was there experiencing their story with them. I can’t wait read to read the next books in this series.

First off I absolutely loved the Mafia Elite Series. I’m not a huge fan of prequels, but I like to give them a chance just to see how an author merges the past and present. This was a very quick read, but it gave a lot of insight into the women we came to know who loved and married these men in the five families. We get to see what these ladies were going through the night one of their good friends and roommates was murdered. These ladies endured a lot as we found from the Mafia Elite Series but we get to find out just how much and how strong their bond really was in the beginning. The author has done an amazing job making these characters come to life and jump from the pages. I look forward to learning more about Liliana, Emiliana and Sofia before they became wives.

Defiant Princess (Mafia Elite Series Prequel) by Amy McKinley – Review by Candice Estes

Defiant Princess (Mafia Elite Prequel)Defiant Princess by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is a prequel to the Mafia Elite series, and is a phenomenal addition to the original series. For me, getting to see the female main characters, our mafia princesses, during their last year of college and see what life was like for them at that time, was a great new addition. The main thing that I found interesting was getting to know Marissa, a mafia princess who was not a part of the original series other than her death being a motivation for many of the mafia members. This book allows you to see how close Marissa was with the others, while also at times giving us her perspective at times.
I do hope that this is still not the end of this series, because I never want to leave this world!

This was a really good read! I enjoyed getting to go back, and kind of getting some insight into the events at the beginning that had such an impact on the main series, but didn’t get talked about often. So it was nice getting information on the tragedy itself. It also gives slightly more of an insight into the mafia girls which I really enjoyed as well. It was fast paced and well written too! I definitely can’t wait to read more from this author in the future!

This is a good book to go along with the series that Amy McKinley has written. She doesn’t disappoint. I would read the other books to know where the girls are in their lives. The girls are leading their lives in college and are staying with each other. They aren’t going to know how to live without each other, but they really won’t have to once they make the packed. I cannot wait until the next installment to see what happens in this book. This one leaves you with a cliffhanger for sure.

Defiant Princess (Mafia Elite Prequel)Defiant Princess by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Defiant Princess is a short story that is a prequel to the Mafia Elite series. I am obsessed with this series and was so excited to read it. It gave us a little back story on the girls of the Five Families, though I wish there was more info given on Marissa. I still want to know what happened!! So please, I beg, at some point let us know who dun it!! This book takes place before any of their marriages. They are enjoying their last year in college, dreading the future their fathers have chosen for them. I enjoy seeing the love and protection from their brothers. And how close they all are to each other.
While I love this series and enjoyed the book, I don’t feel like it added much to the series. Reading this AFTER all the other books, I feel like there wasn’t much new info provided. I think it would be more enjoyable as a true prequel to hook a new reader on the series. But, as I said, I am obsessed with this series, so I still recommend it and look forward to more.

The KidnappingThe Kidnapping by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Kidnapping by Linda Burson. This is such a funny romantic suspense read. Its the story of Jenna and Andy. When Jenna meets Andy in a local bar they hit it off and soon a romance sparks. Jenna has not had good luck with guys because she has money and that’s usually all they want. Her last boyfriend wanted her to put his name on her bank account but thank God the red flags flew and she didn’t. Things with Andy are going pretty good and then someone leaves a envelope full of money and the instructions to kidnap someone. Andy tries to track the person down to tell them they have the wrong person but he can’t find them. What happens next is a crazy, fast paced thriller. This book will make you laugh, be scared and flip pages way in the night. I love this author and always enjoy her work!

Yesterday’s Over (Philly Heat Series Book 3) by Becky Flade – Review by Paloma Fierro 9/11/2022

Trudy Beasley is a forensic medical examiner, her organized personality within her personal and professional life has made her an excellent result reporter for those families who seek the peace of knowing what happened to their loved ones. Brilliant at her work she is analytic during the examination of bodies, but once the physical work concludes her mind wanders about the pain and hardship the patient had endured before dying.

A terrible exposition in the city has Trudy and her team full of work, burned carcasses and bags of bones are delivered for her to examine but she doesn’t know how to identify bones so she calls the university asking for a consult with an expert in the matter.

Ben Roberts is a professor in forensic anthropology and a city case has his attention when bags of bones to identify are turned in from the scene of the accident. He is a scientist with an academic mind that seeks to understand the evidence and whatever it may tell him would be enough to draw up conclusions, and therefore information.

Clashing due to their differences Trudy and Ben are about to engage themselves in a mystery road that may guide them to understand each other better, but also in danger of being in the middle of something very unexpected and dangerous.

Wow what an amazing addition to the Philly Heat series by this author. The third book in a row I have read straight through.
We are introduced properly to Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Beasley, the Assistant Chief Medical Examiner, who we have met briefly in the first two books as a friend to the leading ladies in their stories. Trudy is a force of nature herself, having been brought into the fold researching the child killer previously, she seems to be hooked and overly invested in the case brought to her when a gas explosion levels houses and not only does she need to do her best for the recently deceased but bones from multiple bodies (including that of a baby) are uncovered.
She brings in Forensic Anthropologist Ben Roberts to deal with the bones as this is outside her remit, although she suspects foul play. Ben takes the case forward in a purely scientific one.
They are both dragged into this case further than they would anticipate, further murder, abduction and more questions than answers to begin with bring the whole team, and support network together.
The fastest paced book of the three I have read, emotional rollercoaster as you follow the: who, when, where, why how as well as the budding relationship between Trudy and Ben.
Another fantastic read by this author.
Defiant Princess (Mafia Elite Series Prequel) by Amy McKinley – Review by Paloma Fierro 09/11/2022

Liliana, Sofia, Marissa, and Emiliana belong to 4 royal mafia families. Under the strict power of their respective fathers each of the girls is used for the convenience of the business, marriage arrangements are made with other families even those who are part of the enemy, giving them the memories of growing together as the only source of warmth throughout the hardness of the destiny.

Within their luxury lives all of them have challenges to overcome: Marissa’s engagement with Toni, who was a friend and suddenly becomes a guard who seeks power in his new position. Sofia,in love with Enzo, but after a traumatic experience has lost all of his shine and she can not seem to get it back to him, thinking that theirs was not a love meant to be. Emiliana, who is marked with internal scars after being abducted and now can’t seem to be able to be part of a normal society, living always on high alert and in constant fear for her surroundings. Liliana has yet to see what her father has saved for her future, she has a seat in first row into her friends fated goals.

A multi-narrative story full of action, suspense, hidden love, character development that empowers the forces of each girl to its fullest, even when at the same time they deal with their fears and limitations

This book contains a little bit of everything, crime, suspense and romance. I found it very hard to put the book down.

Trudy has a heart way too big to be in the medical profession, gets way too invested

Ben is a hot nerd and is good at his job and sometimes forgets the human element to what he does.

I’m so glad I took a chance on this book.

Yesterday's Over (Philly Heat series, #3)Yesterday’s Over by Becky Flade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another intriguing read! The author continues this series with another page-turning, romantic suspense. Though part of series, this could easily be read as a standalone.

I enjoyed the characters and both their individual development, as well as development of their relationship. This story was also unique in that the main characters are a medical examiner and an anthropologist, which made the story a bit quirky and different from other crime/suspense reads. The author has proven herself as a master of character development; her characters easily come through the pages of the story and feel relatable and real! Trudy and Ben make an intriguing team with palpable tension and attraction, though they often have differing views and opinions.

This story really had it all, but I just loved the characters (if you couldn’t tell). The mystery keeps you the reader engaged, as well as suspense and danger ever-present. Definitely recommend picking this one up (as well as the rest of the series).

I want to start by saying my expectations were set very high for this book. I loved the first book in the Philly Heat series. I definitely was excited to continue the series.
Lexi is a cop with survivor’s guilt. I would say that her introduction was very relatable. I think anyone who has survivor’s guilt is on a self-destructive path. The department is concerned about whether she is fit to continue her job position. They place a new partner with her, who is secretly examining if she can continue the job.
Their first case as “partners” is to hunt down a child killer. As they work on this case, their chemistry is undeniable and as a reader this jumps of the page.
One thing I’ve learned to expect from Becky Flade is well written characters who have a chemistry that just oozes off the page. This does not disappoint! I loved this story so very much.

Becky Flade is one of my favorite authors and the Philly Heat series is one that I absolutely love. This third installment in the series is just as wonderful as the first two.
Once again, Becky delivers with wonderfully written characters and chemistry that jumps off of the pages. This time she includes several twists that I did not see coming.
Trudy is a Medical Examiner who gives all into her work. However the other side of her is incredibly caring and feeling. After a major explosion, the clean up crews found way more than they bargained for. They find decades old bones which means that there is the potential that this can solve a cold case. Trudy is determined to find out who the bones belong to. She reaches out to an anthropologist named Ben. Ben and Trudy are such opposites, that it only makes sense that there would be chemistry between them. Becky makes this chemistry absolutely palpable to the reader.
I loved this story! I definitely recommend reading this. Its a great easy to read book with amazing characters.

Yesterday’s Over (Philly Heat Series Book 3) by Becky Flade. This has been one of my favorite series I’ve read this year and this book was no different. I loved it. Its the story of Trudy is a hard working, strong lady who is the Medical Examiner for the City of Philadelphia. She always is diligent and caring about her victims and does the very best for the families. When the city is rocked with a huge explosion Trudy is called out to search for the bones and she ends up calling in back up. She finds Ben who is an anthropologist and he sets out to help Trudy identify these bones. While working together they don’t hit it off automatically but as time goes by they become closer. While they are searching for clues as to who set off this bomb they are getting threats from someone that doesn’t want them to find out who committed this crime. This causes Trudy and Ben to end up in a very dangerous situation. Will they be able to solve this case and survive as well? Will they end up with a realtionship out of this tragedy. Read this great book to find out!

Degrees of Innocence: Dark Mafia Romance (Cruel Deceptions Book 1) By Via Mari – Review by Cindy Mayberry

Another great Mafia story that will have your emotions all over the place. Chase and Katarina are both very different people. One is the boss and the other is the princess. Chase is the CEO of a big company as well as belonging to the biggest crime syndicate. Katarina the princess that she is, but also the daughter of the man within his own Mafia syndicate. As these two worlds come together you will find yourself right in the middle. I absolutely love this author. I never read the Synopsis, I just buy the book and start reading. She never disappoints! This story is loaded with twists and turns that will keep you reading. The story is well written and easy to keep on track with. The characters are perfect for the parts they play, The Boss and The Princess you will just need to read this story to see what happens next. No spoilers here!

Yesterday's Over (Philly Heat series, #3)Yesterday’s Over by Becky Flade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the Philly Heat series. I really enjoyed this story. It is so much more than a romance which is what I loved about it. There is romance in it but it is also full or mystery, danger and intrigue as Ben and Trudy try to get to the bottom of the mysterious old bones that have turned up. Were they buried there by accident or is there a killer still on the loose.

I love the characters of Ben and Trudy. Trudy is a very strong character, she is determined to find the truth about the mysterious bones no matter the risk or what she has to do. Ben on the other hand is happy just examining the bones and isn’t too bothered about the origins of them. They work together on this case and their feelings begin to blossom but will Ben been reluctant to support Trudy in her quest for the truth and the fact that killer could still be out there Ben is also reluctant to allow Trudy to put herself in a position to get harmed.
Will Trudy see this for the caring protective way it is meant or will she see it as Ben being non supportive and standing in her way. Can their new found romance survive this challenging and dangerous time.

I loved this story and the romance. The author does an amazing job of captivating the reader

Defiant Princess (Mafia Elite Series Prequel) by Amy McKinley – Review by Desiree Ottinger

Defiant Princess (Mafia Elite Prequel)Defiant Princess by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Being born into a Mafia family means life is never normal. College was supposed to be a period of time where Liliana, Sofia, Emiliana, and Marissa get to at least pretend to be closer to normal than how they had grown up. Senior year has approached and despite it being their last year of freedom, their families start making plans for their future. Each of them is faced with the inevitable prospect of marrying someone they don’t love or even like. When a Russian mafia member is spotted watching the girls’ house, it can only mean their time is running short. As they each face their fears and cling to the last vestiges of their normal-ish lives, can they make it through together? Or will they succumb to the mafia way and be punished for unknowingly putting themselves in harm’s way?

This prequel answered a lot of questions from the Mafia Elite series that were always mentioned but never truly explained in depth. I enjoyed getting to see the girls in their “formative” years before their lives were not really their own. Each perspective brings a different view into how the girls really became a unit that would do anything for each other. My heart broke a little for each of them as they had to go through yet another tragedy to realize that their lives really are not their own and that they are just pawns in the greater scheme of the Mafia life.

Trudy and Ben are amazing. Through all they have to deal with since first discovering the skeletal remains, they forge this incredible bond, and truly get to know each other’s entire being. The trauma, the mystery, the heartache and the love you get to experience along with the characters is so pure, and it just feels so REAL.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, during the entire thing. I read it in one sitting and felt like I was IN the story with them. I loved every minute of it, and Trudy and Ben are forever one of my favourite scientist couples.

Rage (Marcy Series Book 1) Audiobook by Linda Burson

Rage is the first book in the Marcy Series (Audiobook) and is a Romance Suspense that will have you glued to you seat as the narrator takes us on quite the ride. This narrator did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and keeping my attention. I enjoyed how the different tones made it feel suspenseful and you got the sense of the tension in certain parts. I’ve read this book but I definitely liked the Audiobook better. I got pulled in from the beginning and couldn’t stop listening. At times I found myself holding breath has the tension and suspense built up. This story is about Marcy she’s a independent woman whose live is a bit crazy and she finds herself in situations and each one gets a bit more complicated than the last. I highly recommend listening to this fast paced story to find out what happens next. I look forward to listening to more from this Author.

4 Stars

Tink is the first book in the Devil’s Handmaidens MC series by D.M Earl. It is a MC romance- a romantic suspense with plenty of emotion, danger, dramatic developments, trust issues, damaged characters, friendship, family (of choice), finding love unexpectedly, human trafficking element, finding purpose, finding where you belong, chemistry, tension, intensity, and camaraderie.
This isn’t my first read by Ms. Earl, and I know I can always count on her to deliver an intense read. Tink and Noodles story packs a bit of an emotional wallop and had me invested right from the start.
A great start to this new series… Looking forward to Book #2- ‘Shadow’.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, D.M. Earl!

So this is just an okay story for me. I was expecting a mafia story and felt this is an overbearing businessman story with lots of smexy times. Sure he could be mafia but it is not eluded to until the end. I feel the author is just drawing it out to make it into more books. Not a lot happens through the whole long book other than slooow character development and lots of sex. I got tired of the main character’s thoughts pertaining to a work relationship. A few are fine..half a book..too much.

I also had confusion over the name Matt used more than once. Early on I just ignored it and realized later on I should not have as it became important and I wondered if it was the same person and I just did not make the connection earlier. But it wasn’t.

I did like how the characters met each other, their cute emailing and the danger that arrived. This ends in an unfinished story. Not really a cliffhanger but I just turned the page and the book was over leaving me feeling incomplete. This is not a first time author for me but this one is just not my favorite.

Katarina’s past has always been the driving force to her life, scarred by her mother and driven within her career she has never really enjoyed life, until she meets the dark and mysterious Chase Prestian. With his relentless nature to make her his and the chemistry between them sparks will fly but can Katarina open her dark desires to him.

Chase has it all money, success, and a revolving door of woman but none has piqued his interest like Katarina, with the chemistry and the willing to show her the dark side of life will she be as open to a relationship with him once he shows her his other side.

This book is full of action and steamy scenes, I am always drawn to a Alpha male and Chase is more than that. The action within this book is full of intrigue and suspense, with the characters each having their own flaws and problems to overcome. I love the interactions between the two main characters and the way Katarina discovers this about herself personally along the way.

Although the book has a vibe of the Sub/Dom relationship this is done in a way to enhance the characters relationships and provides and interesting look into both. I loved the strong character of Katarina and although she shows her submissive side to Chase there is always a sass to her character and style. Overall, this is a brilliant start to the series and can’t wait to read more and discover more of this world.

I couldn’t wait to read Trudy’s story she played such a big role in Lexi and Xavier’s story ❣️📕

Again , don’t let the cover fool you , yes you get romance but you also get soooooooo much more and I love this about her books !

Philadelphia is rocked by a massive explosion and when bones are discovered in the rubble the expertise of a medical examiner is needed and out girl Trudy is on the job …

Ben , a forensic anthropologist is also called to the scene and he and Trudy team up to find out the who , what and why if these bones . These two are chalk and cheese and they’re o very different but this is exactly what makes them brilliant both in and off the field ❣️😉

All my itches were scratched yet again 😂 there was romance , suspense, mystery , secrets , thrills and chills !
