Rage (Marcy Series Book 1) Audiobook by Linda Burson – Review by Cindy Mayberry

Only one word to start this review off, WOW! This is a great start to this series. Marcy is extremely independent and strong. Finding herself in a store robbery, her anger gets the best of her. As she gives the robber a beat down. Okay I had to laugh at the fact she just responded so quickly that the people around her were stunned, including the man at the register. But when her boyfriend and employees insist she get counseling for her anger issues. She decides to go as she knows she is angry but does not know why. Then in walks Liam who needs Marcys help in making mends against the people who killed his family. That’s it! No Spoilers! I have read many of this author’s books, and she never disappoints. Marcy is definitely strong and independent, Liam is seeking Marcys help and Brad, the long time boyfriend, is wanting to keep Marcy close. I love the characters in this story and am looking forward to seeing where this series goes next.

Rage (Marcy Series Book 1) Audiobook by Linda Burson – Review by Shelly Kittell

5/5

What a story! I had read this and enjoyed it. The audio takes it to a new level. The narrator adds the tension and suspense in just the right spots. You can feel the anticipation rise and fall like you are there with her. This is a fantastic suspense that keeps you on the edge-of-your-seat needing to know what’s coming next. Listening to this kind of made me think of the old radio shows where you gather around listening. I loved it and recommend it for romantic suspense lovers.

The Kidnapping by Linda Burson – Review by Maisie Dickinson

The KidnappingThe Kidnapping by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Linda Burson’s The Kidnapping is a mysterious romance novel, with an original plot and inspiring storyline. Linda creates a multitude of strong characters with detailed backstories that are unravelled throughout the book. There are moments of terror along with moments of domestic bliss. It has everything you want in a book: plot twist after plot twist keeping you gripped from start to finish, a slow burn romance to die for, a happy ending, and an epilogue so the novel doesn’t finish when the story does. I’d love to read more of Linda’s work.

Yesterday’s Over (Philly Heat Series Book 3) by Becky Flade – Review by Karyn Taylor

Yesterday's Over (Philly Heat series, #3)Yesterday’s Over by Becky Flade
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in a series which I’m really enjoying, even though I starter with book 2, then went back to book 1. I actually think that this is my favourite of the series so far.
I was really drawn into the storyline of this book straight away. It’s also a topic, or topics that you generally don’t find in romance books but I actually found it very interesting and found this really added to my enjoyment of the story.
I really enjoyed Trudy and Ben’s story. It was a great romance but had so much more to it. It was more like a romantic suspense which is one of my favourite tropes to read. It was filled with drama, danger and intrigue and kept you glued to the story from start to finish.
I also really loved Trudy and Ben as characters. Both are easy to relate to and very likeable. Both are devoted to their jobs and have very strong personalities which clashed at times but as with romance novels, true love wins in the end.
Definitely recommend.

Yesterday's Over (Philly Heat series, #3)Yesterday’s Over by Becky Flade
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third in the Philly Heat Series, and again, Becky Flade does not disappoint. The writing is fast-paced and the characters are well written. They come to life on each page.
Yesterdays Over follows Trudy Beasley, Assistant Chief Medical Examiner; she works to provide families with closure for victim’s families. After an explosion, and bones are found; Benjamin Roberts, Forensic Anthropologist is brought in to examine the bones.
Trudy and Ben work together, and it isn’t long before they find interest in each other. As they navigate the search for answers about the bones and their spark of romance, someone else has some secrets that they want to keep hidden.
I would recommend this book!

Imagine working with people who should be on your side, but are really working against you. Alexandra Danvers, Homicide Detective just wants to bring a child killer to justice.
Xavier Knight, a Police corruption specialist is tasked with evaluating Lexi to report whether or not she should remain on the force.
When the two are partnered together, their first assignment is a child homicide. Throughout the investigation, Lexi and Xavier must overcome their own emotions from the past to uncover the criminal behind this crime.
The two each feel a physical attraction, but try not to show it. When tensions rise and Lexi is suspended from her job; she and Xavier become friends until a moment when it becomes more.
This book is full of suspense, raw emotion and romance. Page after page, I rooted for these characters to solve the crime, overcome their demons and find love.

Degrees of Innocence: Dark Mafia Romance (Cruel Deceptions Book 1) By Via Mari
5 out of 5 stars

I always love reading any book by Via Mari, and this book did not disappoint. Follow along and learn all about Katarina Meilers and Chase Prestian. A woman who is dedicated to her job and always strives for perfection, and a man who just wants to be seen.
Do you believe in love at first sight? This book slightly follows that line, where there is an immediate attraction that only grows as time goes on.
But, like every love story, something goes wrong. That wrong in this book, can be Chase’s over protectiveness and Katarina strong emotions, which she is not used to having.
Can they overcome their differences and each other’s flaws? Read to find out!

I love the playfulness between the two, and the joking around with each other. Let’s not forget about the steam either!

All in all, Via Mari did not fail and brought, yet another, great romance story! I cannot wait to read more in this series!

I have read many of this authors books and have enjoyed them all in one way or another. I was excited to see what she had instore for us this time. I was not disappointed. This is one of my favourites.

The Kidnapping with its gripping tension and suspense and humour had me turning the pages to find out what happened next. It’s not every day you are thrust in to a world not of your making.

Linda has given us a tangled web to navigate this mystery which has been skilfully planned out and well written. There are a few twists and surprises along the way as we navigate the predicament the characters suddenly find themselves in.

One bar, two strangers and one night that will change their lives forever. Now if they can just manage to keep out of the clutch of danger.

Grab a copy of The Kidnapping and enjoy.

Curse of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords Book 2) by Heidi Vanlandingham – Review by Kimberly Wilkinson

Curse of the Elf Lord (Kingdom of the Elf Lords Book 2)Curse of the Elf Lord by Heidi Vanlandingham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Definitely worth it!

I enjoyed Curse of the Elf Lord it was a good read. It was not a confusing read i could follow along with what it was saying.
We are diving deep into the supernatural world. There’s more than Elves, there’s demons, gods, wolves, and way more. Mythology tying into books is a good place to go for me. I enjoy it. Emilien and Hel are at romantic odds. Estrangement is better, but what happens when they are forced to work together, and what then?
Something is going on, beings in the different worlds are starting to disappear. Getting stuck in the Shadow Lands Emilien was thrown for a loop. He was also attacked too and warned to cease his quest after his brother and his wife. If it wasn’t for his connection with Hel he might not have made it back. Freyja believes it’s all tied together. Olivier and his wife’s disappearance and the missing beings from world’s that depend on them for survival.
The the characters are pushed back together to survive but in a good way. Its a very good read and ita amazingly written. It makes you wonder what is going to happen next in the book.

Boss’s Vendetta (Sicilian Gods Book 1) by Via Mari – Review by Shea Gilkerson 10/28/22

Boss's Vendetta (Sicilian Gods Book 1)Boss’s Vendetta by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Adrianna is a doctor in the Vegas strip, hired specifically to be at the beck and call of the Larussio crime family. While she also serves as the doctor to visitors of their hotel, her contract pays her extremely well and includes a glitzy apartment to keep the mafia family healthy. She has her reasons for taking this job, and the salary and amenities are strictly a bonus until she accomplishes what she came to do.

Salvatore Larussio is about to become the new Don to the family after his cousin stepped down from the position. As Great Uncle ages, he is preparing to retire very soon and hand the reins over to Sal. Sal was formerly an enforcer in their mafia family and is well known for his ruthlessness matching his cold demeanor. In reality, Sal has far more fears than anyone would ever realize. Being in charge meant everyone and their safety was his responsibility, now. It meant he could no longer enforce the punishments on their enemies, he could only make the call to do so. He lives in fear for his family and himself and has no time for love or romance.

However, Adrianna has caught his eye and he cannot help but recognize the pull he feels for her. He thinks of her constantly, even though any time they speak her distaste for him is evident. Will Sal take a shot at love? Will Adrianna’s secret and intentions ruin anything that might develop?

This is a fast paced read, very well written, draws a beautiful picture of their surroundings and has you rooting for Sal and Adrianna to be together in spite of everything. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Boss’s Vendetta: Dark Mafia Romance (Sicilian Gods Book 1) by Via Mari – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Boss's Vendetta (Sicilian Gods Book 1)Boss’s Vendetta by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is only for those over the age of 18 due to its adult themes.

Salvatore Larussio is a man who leads a double life, by day he spends time with the high rollers at his families casino, spending time with the big wigs, the high up and the social climbers, but begins closed doors, he is a ruthless heir to a mafia throne. Adrianna is a doctor with a past she would rather forget, but now she is working at the Larussio resort and is in charge of the urgent care there, but as well as the usual emergencies she has to deal with, add into that the responsibility of sewing the family up as well, she has a lot on her plate.

The two first butt heads over the treatment of a family member and when she doesn’t back down when faced with the devil himself, he is more shocked than anything, but when a family gathering which is supposed to be a happy one turns into a bloodbath, things take a turn for the unexpected for Adrianna. In the midst of triaging the casualties, a decision is made to whisk her away with them so that she can continue their care, but just what that means is something Adrianna is completely opposed to, but seemingly has no choice in the matter.

As they are being kept in close confines, things that Salvatore finds intriguing about this ice queen from the emergency room are the things he finds attract him to her the most, but when Adrianna is confronted with the realisation that she is attracted to those same things, she decides to tell Salvatore the truth of why she is there. Will the secrets she has been hiding make or break the tenuous bond she has is building with the family, or will it be her undoing? This is a Mafia suspense with plenty of action throughout, as this darkly romantic story pulls you into the the underworld and keeps you there, while you follow along this spicy story of retaliation and retribution.

Boss’s Vendetta

This is an amazing mafia romance. It contains moments of my favorite features in books. It has action, steamy scenes, and enemies to lovers.
The main character is Salvatore and he has just become the head of the family business (aka mafia). With this he becomes the head of an incredibly hostile war between feuding family. When Salvatore meets Natasha the tension is thick. But the downside is that Natasha who is working for his family has been placed there to help fulfill a vendetta. This makes a romance with him even more complex. Sal’s focus should be his territory and his family but Natasha definitely threatens to disrupt that focus.
I loved this story so much. I love that this definitely delivers in the steam department. I also truly love knowing that this series will focus on all of Salvatore’s family. I cannot wait to see how the family continues to develop and how much steam will be brought.

I will admit, throughout this entire book they had me on my toes. I had no idea what was going to be said or what was going to happen, Between the connection of Adrianna and Salvatore to their messy backgrounds to how they came to be together I was on the edge of my seat I had no idea what the next page would bring and the surprises kept coming throughout the entire story. Adrianna who we meet and believe to be a bit of a stick in the mud and Salvatore the man we believe to be the devil incarnate. Two people who in almost every way shouldn’t work together but turns out to be one of my new favorite love stories!! The openness and honesty that they have with each other is absolutely beautiful and I loved every page of it.

Boss's Vendetta (Sicilian Gods Book 1)Boss’s Vendetta by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the perfect startup book for a new series. It is explosive, filled with action, drama, violence, and romance. With characters that are relatable, ones you love to love and ones you love to hate.

Adrianna is the female in the stories we always aspire to be. She is a doctor, who was orphaned, and is looking for answers into her fathers death. Which may come from the elusive Larussio’s. So when she gets a job working in one of their casinos this may be the perfect chance to find answers to the questions plaguing her about whether the Larussio’s were responsible.

Salvatore, who is not even heir to the mafia throne, is thrust into the position solely by availability. Many think he should not be there nor that he has earned such a prestigious position of power. The last thing he needs is a sexy doctor turning his world inside out and giving his enemies a weakness to exploit.

Will Adriana finally uncover the truth about her father’s death and will it be the answer she hopes? Can Salvatore protect his family and Adriana from threats within and outside the family so he can find his happy ever after? This is a dark mafia romance, with suspense, lies, and romance which makes for an amazing story in my book. I am excited to read the next book in this series just to see what happens next!

I am loving this series and I’m so glad that Trudy gets her own story! I’ve been following her through this series and she’s one of my favorite characters.

Trudy is the medical examiner and some bones are located the likes that she’s never seen. It’s up to her to find out who this is and to help identify who did this to them. Her services are invaluable to the police department but can her kind spirit endure the emotional toil that it’s taking on her?

Ms. Flade does it again with another great novel full of mystery, suspense, and romance. I found myself on the edge of my seat as I read this thrilling, fast-paced novel. I’ll be looking forward to more great reads by this author!

Lexi Danvers is still trying to come to grips with the horrible and untimely death of her husband, Robert. On top of that, she’s given a new partner in the homicide division. As a detective, she’s dedicated to her job, sometimes too much. As a friend and lover, she’s not as dedicated and uses people, although it’s not always purposeful.

Xavier Knight is the new detective assigned as Lexi’s partner. He’s not without some skeletons in his closet either, although he keeps that door pretty closed. What he’s not happy about is that he’s been hired to keep an eye on Lexi. She’s a loose cannon and could become a liability to the division. Xavier isn’t sure he can defy the trust of his partner.

There is a child killer on the loose and Lexi is pretty sure she knows who’s committing these crimes. How can she solve these murders when her shield is in question?

I love this author and this is only the second book I’ve read of hers. This story is gritty and covers some very difficult themes that are unfortunately happening far too often in our country. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Flade’s work!

The fast-paced, suspense novel will keep you on the edge! Noah has a duffle bag full of secrets, some from his time in the military, some from his personal life. One of his secrets is that he has loved one woman for six years without telling her. Noah believes that Callie Rose could never be his due to her brother being his best friend. Callie Rose is all grown up and has spent the last 6 years dreaming about one man, Noah. After an unexpected shared moment, they each must fight, control, share, experience their desires for each other.

When Noah’s past comes with a vengeance after Callie, Noah has to put his pride aside. Noah has to tell his best friends his secrets, even if it costs him his chance with Callie. Ensuring Callie’s safety is more important than anything in Noah’s world.

Let me just say that the villain is super bad, not in a good way. He got off way too easy but got what he deserved. This book is a fantastic ride from beginning to end. Totally worth the read!

Boss’s Vendetta: Dark Mafia Romance (Sicilian Gods Book 1)

I know these are characters we already knew of from earlier series but oh my, there is something incredibly hot and a sexy dangerous man who’s entire life was surrounded by or working in the Mafia, at least in this world.

I think I started crushing on Salvatore from the beginning and it grew from there.

From the beginning Adrianna didn’t hold back. She stood up to him every time she got a chance and their confrontations were popcorn worthy.

Salvatore made me think of the saying about onions and peeling back the layers. What you see at the beginning with him isn’t what you find when you get to his heart.

I am so happy that this new series is here and I can’t wait to see what happens with all of the family and get introduced to even more amazing and strong characters both male and female.

This author is one of those that I grab as soon as I see there is a new book without reading the synopsis.

Degrees of Innocence: Dark Mafia Romance (Cruel Deceptions Book 1) By Via Mari – Review by Rosanna Ingram

Degrees of Innocence (Prestian Series, #1)Degrees of Innocence by Via Mari
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kate is in Aruba for a project that the company she works for is spearheading. She showed up a few days before the conference regarding the project is set to begin so she can enjoy some rest and relaxation. Her first night takes an interesting turn when she saves the life of a man that collapses in front of her…and then meets a handsome stranger that she is almost instantly attracted to. However, she is surprised when she walks in on the first day of the conference to see the handsome stranger introducing himself as the owner of the company who has hired the one she works for.

Chase purposely didn’t introduce himself because people are usually after him due to his bank account. So, when Kate doesn’t know who he is, he is relieved to find her feelings are genuine. He does, however, have quite the challenge ahead of him to break down her walls and her reluctance to dating someone who she works for. But, when Kate’s safety is at risk, Chase will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

Once they return to the US, Kate’s safety is still in danger and she finds herself in an extremely dangerous situation. When she is recovering, she is hit with even more shocking news when her mother reveals the truth about her father. How will this come into play in future books?

I found these characters to be interesting. The book spends quite a bit of time introducing different types of play in the bedroom. Chase and Kate’s relationship is full of chemistry…but also danger being who they each are (separately and together). I am interested in seeing how the last revelation plays out as they move forward. Overall, a good book.

Boss’s Vendetta (Sicilian Gods Book 1) by Via Mari – Review by Kaylee Johnston

3.5 Stars

Book 1 in the Sicilian Gods Series, Boss’s Vendetta, is about Salvatore and Adrianna. The book focuses on how the two of them come together, what the vendetta is, and how everything gets solved. The mafia romance genre includes many explicit and dark scenes – this story is no different.

The connection between Salvatore and Adrianna is great at the beginning. I am always a fan of enemies-to-lovers stories. I found the plot points and the development of this story to be unique and enticing. I loved how it progressed and the settings things took place. The main conflict was tense and I couldn’t keep myself from reading as quickly as I could. I loved seeing the relationship between Salvatore and his cousin, Dominic. I thought the way the characters were portrayed was done really well – especially the Great-Uncle. I loved when Sal and Adrianna finally come together and how seamlessly Adrianna fits into the family.

The things that kept this book from being four or five stars for me are the continuous use of the word “capiche.” It felt overused a lot, to the point I felt it was being included unnecessarily. The switch from a scared bystander who is helping where she can to a skilled and cold agent capable of disappearing and infiltrating certain locations and then back was a bit jarring. I also need to point out that there was a lot of repetition for why Sal and Adrianna couldn’t be together. There’s also a lot of repetition by both Sal and Adrianna about how dangerous Sal was and who he actually was, but there wasn’t much that supported that. Adrianna’s hate also kind of just fades away.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was definitely spicy and kept me intrigued the whole time. I definitely recommend reading this if you’re looking for a hot, action-packed story!

The Kidnapping by Linda Burson is such a fun romantic suspense story that had my attention right from the beginning. It is wonderfully woven with humour, wit, mystery, drama, intrigue, agendas, secrets, and danger.
Jenna and Andy find themselves at opposite ends of a kidnapping plot, and this is where things go a little awry. Neither could have predicted how things would develop- and what ensues makes for a very entertaining read.
I have read many of Ms. Burson’s books now and have loved them all, so when I saw this pop up on my recommended book list, I didn’t hesitate to pick up a copy to explore.
As expected from Ms. Burson, this story is really well written- with just the right amount of tension and intrigue to get you turning the pages to find out what happens. The witty humour added an extra element fun into the story, making for a highly entertaining story.
Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Burson has planned next!

The Kidnapping by Linda Burson – Review by Trista Priest

The KidnappingThe Kidnapping by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I hadn’t heard of this author before and reading the synopsis was immediately intrigued. She did not let me down! What a page turner, I couldn’t get through Jenna’s kidnapping fast enough to see what was in store for us and if all was as it seemed. Absolutely a book that I will be ordering a physical copy for my shelves.
