This was a cute little book. I enjoyed finding out more about the country of Israel. I did not know a lot about Israel but after reading this book I feel like I know a little bit more and it seems really interesting. I recommend this book to parents with kids that like to read and find out about new places.

While this book is technically a children’s picture book, it could also be called a travel book about Israel. I loved how informative it was. It touched on important places such as the wailing wall and the Dead Sea. There’s even a safari area that I had no idea was there. It also teaches about common food available in Israel. It was a fun little read that I enjoyed. As they say in Israel, Shalom!

The book Shalom Israel takes the reader on an adventure to Israel, get ready to say Shalom, “hello!” To a new country! I love how the illustrations in this book are both real photographs and illustrations. It is wonderful to see a book that is easy to understand that takes children around the world to see what it is like there. From what I saw online, many of the things that are in this book are prominent to Israel. The words used help children and adults alike understand words used within the story. I really like that the book also has a glossary that includes interesting facts. This is such a wonderful book!

This is the second book we’ve read by this author, and my kiddos and I loved it so much! They are both bookworms at the ages of 7 and 11, and they loved the illustrations and really enjoyed learning about a culture that differed from their own. I can say that I also learned some things I didn’t know which is always lovely! Both of my kids love to dig deeper into anything they hear about, so this book started a nice conversation that engaged us all. We will definitely be looking for more books by Melissa Lavi!

Shalom Israel by Melissa Lavi. I bought this book for my nephews who are 5 and 10 and they both really enjoyed it. Its a very educational family book that I learned from as well as my nephews. Its basically an adventure of pictures and writing that takes you thru all the diverse locations of Israel. It teaches you about all the diverse culture that is in Israel along with what its like to be Jewish. The story is told in a rhyme so its easy for kids to understand and the pictures are beautiful. It also has a glossary at the end that really helped me understand what some words meant. This would make a great addition to your families library.

Shalom Israel was a great learning kids book. It was great to feel like you were traveling to this country and learning about all the aspects in the culture. The book talked about the language, the people, the landscapes, art, shopping food, etc. Kids will learn a lot about this country and culture through the easy-to-read story. I also like that they included animation in with real pictures from Israel.

This is such a sweet and beautiful book! I love the natural pictures that have the main characters of the story throughout! I feel like we get to see more of Israel than the brief images we may run across on the news or in passing from the media. This short picture book contains a rhyming explanation that’s sure to hold a child’s attention – as well as a small glossary/fun facts page to help caregivers explain terms used. By the end of the story, I feel like I’ve gained a little more curiosity about the country and really appreciate the differences between Israel and the place I come from.

I enjoyed the pictures as well as the story. The information shared with the readers just adds to the events in the story. The author opens a whole new adventure with this book. Adults as well as children will all enjoy this story. I recommend this book be part of the curriculum in preschools as well. I for one have learned so much from this book. A must read and own book for all bookshelves. I hope you enjoy this story as much as my family did.

This is such a wonderful children’s book. I love that it introduces children to Israel. I definitely can see myself incorporating it into a holidays around the world activity. Or even during any of the many lessons that I teach about diversity. This really is an amazing picture book that I feel should be in all classroom and family libraries. I love that it uses colorful illustrations to show children a part of the world they may not know much about or ever get to experience first hand.

This was a great book to introduce the country of Israel to young readers. The mixture of real life photos mixed with illustrated children helped to keep this from being just like any other children’s book about a different country. The beginning of this book begins with an explanation of the meaning of the word shalom which absolutely would help a little one remember as it is repeated throughout the story. Readers will get a quick yet amazingly beautiful glimpse of the country and learn a little about the culture as well!

Shalom Israel is a guided tour through the land of Israel and its culture. The author immerses the reader into the landscapes, culture, history, and beauty of Israel through poetry and colorful illustrations. As a photographer myself I must note that the photographer did an amazing job of capturing the history, beauty, customs, and culture of Israel through his photographs. I loved the colorful photos that capture the very essence of Israel and thought the cute little cartoon characters were a nice touch that added a sense of whimsy and fun. This book takes the reader on a journey from lush forest to deserts, beaches, The Dead Sea, graffiti, the food, and everything in between. The glossary at the end of the book with information on the words used and fun facts was a nice added touch. Although it is a children’s book, I feel that it would be a good read for anyone of any age that wants to know about Israel.

Even though this is based more towards children, I really enjoyed it. I learned many words and things about Israel that I never knew. I was extremely excited at the end when they had a glossary for all the terms I wasn’t sure about saving me the time of trying to Google to be sure I understood correctly. I think this book is a wonderful story for children to read and learn so much more about Israel. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, especially people trying to teach their children of the beauty and diversity in other countries.

I picked this book for my eight and eleven year old just as much as I picked it for me. I’ve been teaching my kids about different cultures, backgrounds, religions, and traditions. Being Jewish but never seeing Israel had me drawn to this book. I could teach my kids a little more, but also myself at the same time! This book was so informative during a whole journey through Israel. You go through a huge diverse, fascinating, beautiful, and historic land. You can see the amazing lands of colors through the landscapes pictured in these pages. I really loved the fields of flowers, but my girls loved the camels and beach art. There is a wonderful glossary at the end of the book that explains some of the words, but also has some great facts about the photos and places. I would recommend this book not only to kids, but anyone who wants to visit Israel one day. This is a great guide to many places there. But also anyone who wants to learn a bit more about other places, culture, food, land, and traditions like I did. I can’t wait to check out some of the other books from this author!!

I loved learning about the different places around Israel and the many different things to love. The back has a glossary of the places and things mentioned and it is nice to be able to learn about things and places that are popular in other countries. I think the book will have kids asking questions and wanting to learn.

The cadence and rhyme are spot on throughout the book (easy to read and follow). I really appreciated th glossary/interesting facts at the end- saves Googling some of the concepts of the book.
I enjoyed the graphics- very visual, and the skywriting of “Shalom” with clouds was really neat. I also appreciated the mixed media art (real photographs and clipart). A little long for the youngest crowd, but I think ages 4 and up would enjoy the lyrical narrative and the illustrations.

Melissa brings her story to life by sharing the beauty of Israel through her eyes. Discovering new lands and historical facts of a land that is as diverse as its characters. Shalom Israel is a wonderful tale, and the pictures bring the story to life and the clipart is bright and colourful. I love that Melissa brought something a little different to the norm of picture books. It is a book told through rhyme which sets the tone of the story. Children will love this guided tour and give them a look at a place not many will have heard of. Not only is it a great educational story but it is fun as you journey through this adventure.
