The Veil of Corruption (The Virus of Beauty Book 2) by C.B. Lyall Review by Shannen Kern

The Veil of Corruption (The Virus of Beauty #2)The Veil of Corruption by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved the first book in this series, and I’m happy to say that this one was outstanding as well! I love the detailed magical world that the author has built as well as the in-depth characters we get to follow. Witches and wizards haven’t gotten along in what seems like forever, but now their conflict is destabilizing their entire realm. Wilf really just wants to be a normal teenager, but it isn’t that easy. His stepsister is causing trouble and he must see to it that justice is served. Can Wilf help his world return to a level of normalcy, or will the decisions made be catastrophic for everyone involved? I highly recommend picking up the first book in the series to get the full experience because you may be a bit lost if you don’t. It’s worth every bit of reading, I couldn’t put either one down until I raced to the finish!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have never been disappointed by Sylvia Black, and Master Calabrea doesn’t disappoint! I love paranormal everything, so this series has been perfect! The chemistry throughout this book is sizzling and steamy. I couldn’t read fast enough but somehow got to the end far too soon. Master Calabrea is leading a hunt for a terrible enemy of his vampire community. When he’s partnered with Tansia, who is known to have visions and powers, will they work successfully together or be the end of each other? I’m ready for the next book to see what the author has in store for us! I highly recommend not only this book, but the entire series. You should absolutely give it a whirl because if you remotely like anything to do with vampires and paranormal romance, you will fall in love with these!

Grace Under FireGrace Under Fire by Jennifer Raines
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an amazing read that filled me with so many emotions! I did not read the first book in the series, but after reading this one I will definitely pick it up to start from the very beginning. Grace lost her very best friend to suicide, which is heart-wrenching all in itself. The loss of her friend hits her terribly hard (understandably) but then she is faced with a difficult task; buy her parents out much earlier than she has planned, or lose their family farm altogether. Ryan enters the picture with some solutions, some a few demons, and an insane chemistry with Grace. Will they end up being a great team, or will their decisions alter their life for the worse? I highly recommend this astonishing, emotionally charged book. I’m heading to pickup the first in the series right now!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Chatroom With a View is a dark, twisted look into the human mind. I was incredibly intrigued from the very beginning, and there is a depth to this story that I wasn’t expecting. I love psychological thrillers, so this was a great read for me. I enjoyed the twists and turns as well as the dark themes. Troy comes from a terribly dysfunctional family and knows that he’ll never fit in with the general population. When his ex-girlfriend announces her pregnancy, the little sanity Troy has left leaves him completely. His ex-girlfriend ends up finding out about Troy’s disturbing family past which leads her to make some extremely difficult decisions. Will Troy live up to his family’s violent dysfunctionalities or will he be the one to break the pattern? I was taken by surprise at quite a few things in this book and sat on the edge of my seat all the way to the end. I highly recommend reading this if you enjoy true crime or psychological thrillers!

This is such a cute children’s book about a piggy that does NOT like to wait. I have two kiddos of my own that aren’t a big fan of patience, so we read this one together. We all loved the illustrations, and they said they understood what piggy feels like because they also don’t want to wait most of the time. We laughed and played alongside pretending to be pirates. Overall, this is a very enjoyable book and would highly recommend to families teaching their young ones that good things come to those who wait!

First of all, let me say that I absolutely loved Night Hawke, which was the prequel to Ruthless Hawke. It definitely starts the series off on the right (steamy) page, so if you haven’t read that one yet, pick it up! I love the entire Hawke family and this one is no different. Gwyn McNamee has such an extraordinary way of grabbing your attention, making you speed through the book without realizing it. The amount of natural chemistry pulls you in and feels more like being a part of the story instead of just looking from the outside in. I HIGHLY recommend this book as well as anything else Gwyn writes because her talent is just incredibly powerful. They have never disappointed me yet!

I found this book to be incredibly relatable and felt like I was walking along Emily through the story. She’s an introvert who feels awkward, never finding her place to fit into. I think we have all been at the place in our life where we don’t answer “How are you” with a genuine answer, but a smile and avoid any real emotion. Emily feels like she doesn’t fit in and has been on a long road to self-love. I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I’m so glad I picked this one up. I recommend it highly and am looking forward to other adventures from Christine Bernard!

I was very excited for this book, so I ended up reading it not realizing it was so far into the series. I didn’t really feel lost which was helpful for me, but after getting sucked into it now I am definitely grabbing the first three books in The Balefire series! This is steamy, mysterious, entertaining and did I say steamy? Adam and Cristy have chemistry that jumps right off the page, but will it build into something more or just stay a spark? After all the truths are revealed, you’ll have to read to find out. I won’t give anything away, but I highly recommend picking Hot For Me up (as well as the rest of the series!) It’s hard to believe that this is the debut novel for L.R. Liverpool because this is a bombshell of a read! I was captivated from the first chapter and couldn’t read fast enough to see what happened next. I thoroughly enjoyed the mixture of drama, suspense, romance, and mystery all told from a memoir kind of perspective. The author has a great gift of making you feel for each character and really see through their eyes. There is great detail in building this world and each character which I absolutely loved. Fenimore leaves home and joins the well-known Red Evans gang to be an outlaw. Once he’s in the gang he realizes something is amiss as members are murdered in cold blood. Fenimore also begins to have romantic feelings for another member of his gang which doesn’t make his life any simpler. I enjoyed getting to know Cutter even though I would love to learn more about him. His drug of choice is strippers…and while it seems shallow, he truly admires their grace and athletic capabilities. He wonders if he will ever find anyone that will make him feel something more. Zarifah is an ex-gymnast who turned to belly dancing. When she meets Cutter, you can feel the chemistry jump off the page. There are plenty of steamy scenes as well as drama and suspense with Zarifah’s ex barging into one of her performances. This is my first book from Susan Specht Oram, but it definitely won’t be my last! I was blown away by this psychological thriller and couldn’t keep myself from the edge of my seat. The Hawke Family Complete CollectionThe Hawke Family Complete Collection by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am absolutely floored by the sheer genius of how this author flawlessly delivers this collection. I read quite a bit, and this is by far the best collection I have read in SUCH a long time. I picked it up by chance but I could not be happier about my choice. I was completely and utterly absorbed in these stories from page one until the very last word. Gwyn McNamee seamlessly blends each story together with plenty of steamy scenes, suspenseful action, and romance.

Savage Collision started the collection off and gave me a glimpse of what I was getting into (hint: it was amazing) After reading about Savage and Dani, I dove straight into Tortured Skye without any hesitation at all. I loved the beautifully written damaged hero and their forbidden romance.

I feel like the author picks up and continues the Hawke family stories so well with the third and fourth books in the series, Stone Sober, and Building Storm. As with the previous two, there are plenty of steamy scenes and drama abound, so buckle up! Stone Sober took me a minute to warm up to because the sibling drama threw me for a bit, but once I got further into the story, I fell in love again (no surprise). Gwyn does such an exquisite job creating not just a story to read but characters whose lives you feel part of while you’re reading. Building Storm is an incredible second-chance romance that will give you all the hope, but of course has all the drama that this author builds so well!

These shorter but equally astounding reads bring the Hawke Family Collection to an end. While I’m sad to end such an incredibly wonderful series, I am beyond happy to have found this author and the Hawke Family. I will definitely be following Gwyn McNamee in the future to see what other magical journey she has for us. Tainted Saint brings more pieces to the puzzle and though it is a quicker read, you’ll still love to see what drama and heat happens here! Steele Resolve brings everything to the close where you’ll get a resolution whether you like it or not. I loved every little bit of these books. Pick up the entire collection and save yourself the time of thinking on it, you will fall head over heels for all of them!

Gunner is the third book in the Hollins & Haring series, but I read it as a standalone. I don’t think you’ll get lost in it without the others, but after reading this one I’m definitely picking up the rest of the series.

Gary and Debbie work together and seem to get along well enough. She has a feeling that Gary has a lot that he isn’t facing in his life, but he is a master at avoidance. But all is not well when the inevitable happens. Debbie’s mother is the first person in their town to test positive for COVID, and now Gary is there with her family in quarantine. Debbie is anxious and isn’t sure what to do since her husband, who is her strength, is far away working. Gary decides he’s going to distract her with what she wants to know…his sad story.
