Fiddle and Fire (Hearts of Gold Book 2) by Ariella Talix – Review by Shannen Kern

Fiddle and Fire: A Steamy Historical MMF Romance (Hearts of Gold Book 2)Fiddle and Fire: A Steamy Historical MMF Romance by Ariella Talix
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ariella Talix wrote an amazing historical romance that I was one hundred percent engrossed in from beginning to end. While this is the first book I’ve read by this author, it is very far from the last. Suzette moves from France to San Francisco and meets two men that happen to be best friends, Isaac and Walter. You’ll notice rather quickly that these two men are quite the opposite from each other. Once Suzette enters their lives, you can feel the chemistry building between not only her and each gentleman, but between the best friends themselves. The way the author paints each scene is just magnificent. I felt like a proverbial fly on the wall throughout the entire story! Fiddle and Fire has loads of spice of course, but it does have a strong historical romance backbone. Ariella absolutely does not rely on just steam to keep this story afloat. I highly recommend picking this up and giving it a real chance because you won’t be disappointed!

I have loved every book I’ve picked up from Elena Kincaid, this one included! Where Fire Meets Flame is the first book in the Yours From The Ashes series and it’s a quick but wonderful start. There is plenty of romance and steamy scenes throughout as well. You’ll devour this in one sitting because you can’t get enough of Tristan and Riley! Their chemistry is amazing, and the characters are quite in-depth for a shorter story. I love the protective vibe I get from Tristan too. I can’t wait for the next book already!

White Picket FencesWhite Picket Fences by Kyle Ann Robertson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my first book from this author and what a marvelous rollercoaster of emotions it was. It’s always unnerving yet validating when someone can seemingly peer into your life with their own experiences, and that’s exactly what Kyle Ann Robertson did. I feel like a lot of people are focused on telling others what a blessing motherhood is, which while true it does ignore the less glamorous side of it. I feel like every mother would tell you the same as well. Our main character, Julie, has spent her entire adult life ensuring that her kids know what home sweet home should feel like. She spends all of her time providing unconditional love and a myriad of duties for her family which all go unnoticed. Then the family unit must deal with a devastating loss together and somehow find their new normal without growing apart from grief. I highly recommend reading this book as it encapsulates motherhood, grief, and hope. You won’t be disappointed if you give it a chance!

Operation Escape is the second book in the Space Force Rejects series, and just like the first it will keep you entertained the whole way through. It was great to follow Sera and Markus on their journey, especially because Sera was incredibly relatable. She is awkward but strong, which I love. The author does such a great job creating chemistry between Sera and Markus, and there are plenty of steamy scenes as well. I recommend picking up Operation Pinpoint first as it will give you a deeper look into the world. This is definitely in your lane if you enjoy steamy and romantic sci-fi adventures!

The Lone Star Child is the third book in The Gods’ Scion series. I should have paid a little more attention and picked up the first two, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this adventure! I am definitely going to pick up the rest of the series to be able to immerse myself into this world even more, but I highly recommend it even just reading this as a standalone. Long imprisoned and forgotten, Ophiuchus has all but given up. When Caro, a Space Acolyte, gives Ophiuchus renewed hope at freedom, they finally see their future and begin their plan of vengeance. How else do you expect a prisoner to feel other than outraged? This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and left me reeling. You’ll definitely enjoy this if YA Fantasy is up your alley, and possibly even if it’s not! Give it a chance as it is captivating, but start at the beginning for the best experience.

The characters were relatable and in-depth, and the world itself will pull you right in. Jacqueline and Angélique have a wonderfully unique relationship as twins, and I loved seeing everything play out between them. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This series was the first I had picked up by author Andrea Matthews, and I fell in love with it. I’m a sucker for time traveling and historical romance, so this was just the perfect pick for me. This was a thrilling adventure as Will and Maggie thought they could finally settle down in the twentieth century only to find that they have to go back to save their current timelines. I won’t give away any spoilers, but I was sure gripping the edge of my seat until the very end! How can Will and Maggie return to the past to help mend the rip in the fabric of time when they no longer have the stone? Will history be forever altered by their inability to jump back, or will they risk their lives trying to fix it all? I love the way the author created this world and these characters with such depth that it all feels so relatable. Pulling TogetherPulling Together by Lois Wickstrom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I feel like Lois Wickstrom knows exactly how to weave a story with just enough fun and lessons to help kids while keeping them engaged the whole time. Lila’s Grandma knits her a poncho which is a lovely gesture. But Lila finds that there are three holes in it for the head and she’s convinced that Grandma has made a mistake. In true Grandma fashion, she shrugs it off and smiles with “We all pull together.” While Lila doesn’t understand this right away, she finds out later on when she sees three new kids in need. My family always enjoys reading books by this author. We read it as a group, and I like to get their ideas afterwards. Somehow Lois peers into the hearts of kiddos and understands exactly what they need. I loved the lesson and illustrations. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to share an incredible book with the family!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lois Wickstrom has long been a favorite of everyone in my household and for good reason. She delivers such fantastic children’s stories that are not only easy to understand, but engaging and educational! One of my kids has ADHD but has a very scientific way of thinking, and my other has a great imagination. They typically read different books from one another, but they always come together to read anything by this author. Little Red Detective is a fun and interesting twist to the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. Little Red gets to use her detective skills to figure out how to keep her and her Grannie safe. I love the illustrations, the flow of the story, and the educational side for the kids. I recommend picking this up and sharing it with the whole family!

While I am so sad to see this series coming to an end, Magic-Borne is a dazzling read! This has been my favorite fantasy series in such a long time. C.L. Schneider has an incredible way of wrapping you in their world and making you feel at one with each character. She is one of the authors that I follow very closely so I don’t miss anything! Ian has been through the ringer, and this is the continuation of his fight. The amount of action, magic, romance, and endurance that you can feel which means you’ll be right there alongside the characters the whole way. Messenger is an incredible sequel, and it does not disappoint! I highly recommend reading Watcher, the first book in the series, just so you can get all of the wonderful backstory and learn about the characters. I think there would be some confusion if you skipped straight to the second book. The story of Jace and Cyrus is one full of paranormal romance, tension, and vengeance. You can feel the chemistry, love, heartbreak, and a full range of emotions as you learn more and more about them. Even as the odds stack against them, you never know what is going to happen. It is definitely a different twist on Romeo and Juliet, but this is one of my favorites so far! Will either of them get what they want or is it a fool’s errand? I definitely think you’ll enjoy this book if you like MM stories of the paranormal romance genre.

Obedience gripped me from the first page and never let go! I absolutely loved every bit of this adventure, and I’m planning on listening to the audiobook for an immersive experience. Trust me, after you read it, you will want all the different variations you can get. There is plenty of tension, especially in the first half of the book, but there is plenty of suspense and steam as well. Cassandra grew up watching and wanting a master aerialist named Chandler. What she didn’t know was that she would get the chance to fly with him…among other things. Chandler was always looking for someone he could relate to and teach his passion of performing acrobatics in the circus. When he finds exactly that in Cassandra, it takes him by surprise when he falls so deeply for her. Will they bend with the pressure, or will they break from their dark history? I can’t believe I have to wait another 6 months for book two because I am fiending for it already! I highly recommend picking this up and reading (or listening!) because it is absolutely amazing!

I wasn’t sure what to expect as this was my first book by this author, but I was blown away. This was a very emotional yet incredibly relatable read as I also have ASD. Molly Zenk perfectly illustrates life in middle school which already includes emotions, cliques, and confusion, but added to the mix of navigating life as a non-verbal teenager. It is heartbreaking to think of people around you speaking near you but never even trying to engage with you because of the differences. The amount of challenges Emerson and her parents face can feel insurmountable, but they are all determined to succeed no matter what. I highly recommend picking this up as it is so well written and will have you feel nearly every emotion throughout Emerson’s story. I believe it would be especially helpful to you if you know someone with ASD as it helps you see the world through their eyes a little bit. This was such a magnificent read and will not soon forget it.

WOW. I jumped straight to this book from the prequel, Savage Start, because I couldn’t get enough! This one gets a bit darker than the prequel so be warned. Riley comes from a family of people with constant ulterior motives, so she’s no stranger to blackmail. What surprises her is the attraction to Cole, one of the elite football stars in the Academy. It turns out that Cole may have some deep, dark secrets as well, and he’s trying to burn Riley before she can do the same to him. What he doesn’t know is how scrappy Riley is, so she’s not going down without the fight of their lives. Will their hate burn them to the ground, or will they cave into the lust they have for each other? All’s fair in love and war, right? I cannot wait for the next book because it can’t arrive soon enough. Isla Vaughn has quickly become one of my favorite authors. It can be very difficult to get into the start of a series with a prequel, especially if it is a short one. Isla Vaughn has proved she can do that and more by drawing you in with the first page and never letting you go! I had not read anything from this author before so I was surprised by how quickly I was knocked off my feet. One of our main characters, Riley, shows you that her life is unattractive in the least and is not one you’d be jealous of. But she is made as strong as they come in no way because of her mother. Our other main character, Cole, doesn’t seem to have a lot of financial stress in his life, but still finds himself wanting more. When these two meet, the mix-and-match chemistry is bound to explode, right? I have already picked up the next book in the series and will be watching for more from this author very closely!

I really enjoyed the way this author weaves the romantic suspense and steam into the third book of this series. Even though this is full of complicated emotions, I felt a connection with each of the characters. The level of detail that went into the characters and settings were top level. My favorite by far was Rowan. She is so feisty and independent, until she meets Chris. They melt into each other and there is plenty of spice involved. I appreciated the thoroughness of the plot, so the author didn’t just rely on the tantalizing scenes to carry the story. Even though they have PLENTY of chemistry, is there a happily ever after for these two, or is it just a short stint they’ll look back on fondly?

Flynn feels like she is a hot mess (heavy on the mess) and she isn’t looking her best when she runs into someone she least expected. Chavez is a wild tennis player who is unpredictable, but full of seductive temptations. Even though they seem like complete opposites, the chemistry between Flynn and Chavez is undeniable.
