Shifter’s Pride (Spirit Walker Thriller Series Book #2) by Laura Hawks – Review by Angela Hayes

4 Stars

“There were many Native Americans that had been blessed by the Great Spirit, the Great Manitou, or whatever the particular tribe called their Supreme Being. As with all Native Americans, they had a spirit to guide them in their life’s journeys, to aid them in the path they should take, but the Great Spirit decreed one group from each tribe would be able to shift into the animal that guided each particular person. They alone would not only embody the wisdom and soul of their guide, but also embody each of their special attributing aspects. They would have the magic bestowed upon them to alter their human states into the creature that would lead them throughout their lives, as well as be gifted with additional powers, which varied per the individual. These powers were as varied as the animals that guided them.”

Shifter’s Pride is the second book in the Spirit Walker Thriller series by Laura Hawks. This is a paranormal murder mystery, with suspense, drama, action, adventure, romance, danger, a stalker, supernatural elements, shifters, and some Native American culture and history. As with the other books in this series, this can be read as a standalone. This story is quite intriguing, with several threads playing out through it. The characters are well developed and interesting. I loved how there was more to them and the story than is initially apparent. Ms. Hawks has a confident, creative, descriptive and inviting style- which brings her stories to life in a very believable way. I really love the American Indian history and cultural details she includes in her stories- it makes the book even more fascinating.

The storyline moves between the past and present- visiting the 1800’s, World War II, then back to the present, again.

I wonder what Ms. Hawks has in store for us next?

Thank you, Ms. Hawks!

Shifter’s Journey is the intriguing third book in the Spirit Walker Thriller series by Laura Hawks. This is a paranormal romance with mystery, suspense, drama, action, adventure, and more. Not having read any of Ms. Hawks’ books before, I wasn’t sure what lay in store for me when I opened the cover. But after a couple of chapters, I was quite intrigued by what I was reading. The story is quite complex, with several threads playing out, which the author cleverly choreographed into a great story. She has a very detailed and descriptive style, which she used to paint vivid images for us to ‘see’ the story unfolds. The book can be read as a standalone.

Sierra Hall is a reporter who normally prefers the quiet life. But, she inexplicably finds herself drawn to Colorado Springs- pulled by her gut instincts to a place she’s never been before, but somehow seems familiar. Strange feelings, unusual dreams, and an unsettling encounter with a mysterious man are just the beginning of her life changing adventure. She really feels that unknown forces are trying to ‘tell’ her something- that she really must follow as it has everything to do with her future/destiny. What do her dreams/premonitions mean? Where will her adventure take her? What happens along the way? This book is well worth the read to find out.

“She wasn’t exactly sure why, but she knew it had something to do with her destiny, her future lying in wait. When they became even more persistent, she took a last-minute vacation from her work and packed a small, rolling suitcase as she booked her flight. She rarely did anything so impulsive, but the need to get to Colorado grew increasingly imperative with each passing day. Her senses screamed at her to travel by train through the mountains and she needed to get there as soon as possible to fulfill the strong intuitions. She had no idea what it might entail, as her feelings had never been quite so distinct before, but she knew she needed to be here, for something big was about to happen. Something important that would affect her life in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and if she missed it, she would forever be lost. A part of her would cease to exist in some significant way.”

This story took me by surprise, and I am so glad that I took a chance and brought it. I will definitely be reading more of Ms. Hawks’ work in the future.

Thank you, Ms. Hawks!
