Sugar and Spice by Phoebe Alexander

This short read was full of real life situations and acts of how the working man or woman is treated in a world where the little guy gets the short end of the stick but still comes out on top. It’s cute, and full of surprises. The book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger necessarily but it is the first book in a series. It’s not necessarily something for me as I’m not a huge contemporary fan but for those who love contemporary romance, this may be a book for you. I’m giving this book a 3 star rating not because of my preferred genres but I felt like it could use some more detail, and I wasn’t at all prepared for the FMCs second line of work and didn’t find it exactly tasteful but for others it might be a different experience. I really enjoyed the MMC especially that this was a dual point of view. I also didn’t care for the mental thoughts that didn’t feel mature enough considering the age demographic. This book probably should have had some trigger warning’s as some may feel uncomfortable but it didn’t deter me from the story.

This is an entertaining start to what I am sure will be a great series. The lead characters Jolie and Cy easily draw you into their worlds and will keep you wanting to learn more. I really enjoyed seeing the changes in Cy over the book. I am looking forward to the next book for sure!

A great surprising love story that keeps you turning pages. Sugar & Spice by Phoebe Alexander provides some very steamy romance scenes while you root for Jolie Cox to get what she has deprived herself from for a long time. As a single mother of two children, who works two jobs, who doesn’t have much time to herself until she meets Marcus Young. She lets herself experience things she hasn’t in a long time. But is there deception in the air?

A first time read from this author and let me tell you, it was an enjoyable read, I loved it! Read this entire book in one sitting. The story captured me from the get go. The characters in the story are so relatable and just amazing. The plot was pretty awesome as well. The story itself was very touching with a little steam, undercover mystery and family drama. I enjoyed it very much. I am so eager to read the next book in the series!!

5 Stars!
An amazing set of books. From he first book I was hooked on the story and the concept of an adult theme park. Each book of this series I picked up pulled me in right away and left me begging for more. I love that you would think the story should be over and what left is there, but then here comes another book, with a new set of characters with a new bunch of drama and romance and a whole lot more fun at the park. The box set includes Sugar & Spice, Virtue & Vice, Fire & Ice and Naughty & Nice. The names of the books alone captured me, each book will always have the two people that started it all, Cyrus and Jolie, it is nice to see their story still unfold through each book. I highly recommend this series, it is steamy, has drama, fun, I think I’m the point where Phoebe Alexander should just go ahead and start the first adult theme park and make this a reality!

Sugar and Spice (Spicetopia Book One) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Heather Bass

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read a couple of books from this author and she continues to surprise me. This is the first book of a brand new series that I can’t wait to read more about. When I got this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. I could not put this book down. It only took me a few hours to devour this amazing story.

Cy Sweet is nothing like his family. When his dad tells him to go undercover to see who is orchestrating a strike against their theme park he does it. Cy is assigned to work in the cotton candy castle which is one of the most popular spots in the theme park. He learns quickly that Sweetopia is nothing but sweet. Cy is ready to blow his cover when he meets the beautiful queen of the land. He wants to get to know her but he knows he can’t let his family down. Will Cy find out who is behind it all and when he does what will he do?

I’ve read other books by Phoebe Alexander and enjoyed them. This was no different. It was a fun, light read with a lot of steamy romance thrown in. It was amusing to see what goes on behind the scenes of the theme park. Cy Sweet is the youngest son of the Sweets, owners of Sweetopia. They send him undercover to work in the bakery to find out who is leading the revolt that’s in the works. The moment Cy lays eyes on the Red Velvet Queen, he quickly gets sidetracked from his objective. The better he gets to know Jolie, the harder he falls. Working in the theme park is an eye opener for Cy. Can their budding romance survive the secrets that they are both hiding?

To be honest, I really didn’t like Cy. He was arrogant, selfish and full of himself; a total spoiled brat. Thankfully he changed throughout the book where by the end, I was on team Cy, cheering him on. It was a fun read and I’m interested to see what happens in part two.

A great read about business. Cyrus Sweet is the youngest son of Carden Sweet, owner of the kids theme park called Sweetopia. To force him to pull his waight in the company, Cyrus is made to go undercover. He is meant to find out about an employee uprising. But instead he finds more to the story and has his eyes opened. Can he choose between what he wants and what his family wants?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Cyrus arrogant but finding his feet and caring underneath or Jolie as independent but vulnerable underneath. Great cast of supporting characters like the manipulative Carden or a good friend Colleen.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the theme park with the silver castle or the jewelled throne of The Red Velvet Queen for a sense of awe and magic, wonderfully written. Or the bold sense of colour with the bright pinks and deep reds and colourful arch so vivid it’s as if you’re actually there.
The switch of perspectives worked well to display both sides of the story and was easy to follow with names in chapter titles.I also liked the mystery with the employee upprising, with small details revealed slowly to make you keep reader. The only issue I would raise is that there was some repetition with Cyrus wanting his money which could have been reduced. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.
