I enjoyed Cabin Eight better than the second book of the trilogy, The Thieves, because not only did it have an escape room feel, the clues and cleverness Miranda must exhibit were spot on. The setting descriptions and the terror she goes through was more profound, similar to the first book (Shore Lodge) of the series (although all three books can be read as stand alone novels).
My favorite part of the book was the internal thoughts Miranda has, her dialogue makes it feel as you are locked in the facility and not her. I felt the ending was a little rushed after the slow build up in the middle of the book. I would have also liked to see more of an epilogue of what Miranda chooses to do in her life after the ordeal she goes through. I also thought the interspersed social media/computer savviness thrown in throughout the book was a clever way to bring up the “why” she finds herself in a not-for-fun escape room. 4.5 stars (because I liked the premise of the first book, a kid turning in a parent in a psych ward, more original).
