My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved the intensity and suspense of this story. Right from the beginning, I was pulled in. I have never read a romantic suspense that started with such an intense scene as a direct punch to the face. The female protagonists are both strong women just trying to do the right thing. The male protagonist is just trying to help. I found the writing to be perfect for a romantic suspense. I love how the author has just the right words to give you the feel of a thriller/suspense. You just feel the edge to the story as you try to figure out the creep and root for the romance. I enjoyed the story and really recommend the story/series to romantic suspense lovers out there.

Beautiful Dangerous is another book in the intriguing series Philly Heat. There are twists and turns that you just do not see coming in this forced proximity tale. Becky has cleverly woven yet another engaging mystery full of thrills into a tale that is compelling and engrossing.
With secrets, lies, threats, danger and a stalker, just to name a few, it’s so easy to get lost in and the pages keep on turning. Add in romance, drama, fear and suspense what more do you need.
Becky’s narrative is told through different POV’s which I really enjoy in a story because we learn so much more about the characters this way. The characters are fully realised, complex and you can’t help but become invested in them and feel that you are in on the journey with them.
Doyle is determined that nothing will happen to her but with her unstable stalker on the lose nothing is guaranteed.
Hannah just wants her life back but with someone out there lurking in the shadows her life will never be the same again.
The chemistry between Hannah and Doyle is undeniable and I really, really liked them.
How far would you go to save the one you love?

Beautiful Dangerous is an entertaining romantic suspense novel, that I recommend you read if you love this genre.

The Mother's ThreatThe Mother’s Threat by Susan Specht Oram
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

New author for me, but I will be reading more. There is suspense, intrigue, danger, tension, drama, secrets, and unexpected twists in this book.

Violet is opening a security business and just clinched a great protection gig for her first job. While starting her protection duties, stresses are coming to a head in town and protestors, rioters and vandals are actively working against her. As she was sharing her information with her parents, they get a little shady about the details of an upcoming trip they’re taking.

Violet is trying her best to offer her protection services, but those who have come to the area to help stir up the unrest are coming for her. Why would they be specifically on the lookout for Violet? Because her mother is there as a leader of the protests and is leaking them information that is very dangerous for her daughter to have them know.

The mother and daughter find themselves facing off and Violet is forced to face so many emotions that go along with loving someone but not liking them or agreeing with them. Angst, fear, tension, family drama, and so much danger and betrayal for Violet in her first big contract. The characters were well written and intriguing, the mother was SO FRUSTRATING and unwilling to protect her daughter, the ending was mildly anticlimactic after so much angst and strain throughout the story, but it was good and I’ll certainly be reading more.

The second in the series and no loss of thrill, mystery, or great character building. I enjoy these types of books so much and appreciate getting to read books where I get to grow to love me learn the characters. This book was gripping, in a can’t-put-down-must-see-what-happens way. It took me on a roller coaster and the push and pull between main characters was amazing. Really enigmatic read and left me excited to see what is next for the series.

I have read a few of Susan’s books, I feel like this one really didn’t keep my attention as well as the others, however it is a good book. Violet opens a security business after leaving the army however she is still trying to make a name for herself. Her and her team run into an issue with a upcoming job when it comes to protecting the client. Her mom is one of those who like to be a part of something and she can’t help but wonder if her mom is part of this crisis that’s coming. Knowing what her mom has done in the past and trying to keep her client safe, she lets the police and the mayor know what is up, however the they both dismiss her….I know you want more so go read the book!

Born to Die (The McIntire County Series Book 2) by Winter Austin a great romance suspense

Deputy Cassy Rivers’ heart is in danger as trouble is on the loose in rural Eider, Iowa. She narrowly escaped a terrifying ordeal at the hands of a lunatic two years ago, but not without scars. She now needs to put her trust in the one man who destroyed her heart after a string of random thefts results in the violent death of a fellow officer.Boyce Hunt, an FBI agent, is aware that individuals with a past like his shouldn’t commit. He once parted ways with Cassy in order to shield her from his mother’s criminal enterprise’s extortion and manipulation. However, their attraction rekindles as they grudgingly work together to apprehend the current Bonnie and Clyde terrorizing McIntire County, separating Boyce between the two loyalties.

Every page had you hanging on every sentence and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a very unique story with even compelling people. The story really transports you into this world. I couldn’t put the book down.

This author never fails to amaze me with their capability to write creative and unpredictable suspense novels! I was once again completely absorbed in this book from the very first page. I’m not sure how she does it, but I have never experienced that ‘warm-up’ in the beginning that other books typically have. The flow of the story is incredible, and the twists always kept me on my toes! You definitely won’t be bored with this one as it is a rollercoaster of guessing what will happen next combined with the drama, intense action, and emotions of Violet and her mother. I highly recommend picking this up and giving it a chance to steal your attention for the day!

The Mother's ThreatThe Mother’s Threat by Susan Specht Oram
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Mothers Threat was a very fast paced, short, full of intrigue, book about a woman named violet who has started a private security firm who has been paid to take a software meeting much more seriously than anyone else around her has. The mayor and the police office are taking a very lax point of view concerning a protest that has the potential to blow up. I liked the story and it moved incredibly fast but I felt like I was missing something between Violet and her mother Daisy. I couldn’t believe how fast her mother violated her trust and hurt her like she did, especially when she threw Violet under the bus as she did. If you like quick moving suspense thrillers this might be up your alley.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Having read and enjoyed book one I was looking forward to being back in McIntire County, and I was just as gripped with this story as I was with the previous one. I would personally recommend reading these in order as the characters do crossover. This storyline concentrates on Deputy Cassy Rivers who is left with the scars from barely escaping a harrowing experience. She is now working in rural Eider, Iowa and is investigating a series of random robberies which results in the brutal death of a fellow officer. Unfortunately the man she must work with and trust is the one who broke her heart, FBI agent Boyce Hunt, however the pair must now work together to capture the modern day Bonnie and Clyde. Boyce left Cassy to protect her from his mother’s criminal enterprise and the blackmail and manipulation that he faces, but working together they can’t deny their mutual attraction. This romantic suspense had me hooked throughout. The characters and the setting were brought to life by the descriptive narrative, making me feel immersed in the storyline. I liked ‘catching up’ with previous characters, as well as meeting the new main characters, Cassy and Boyce who’s chemistry really came across in the narrative. An enjoyable and engaging read, and I look forward to book three.

The Mother’s Threat by Susan Specht Oram – Review by Jessie Hopkins

The people that you are supposed to be able to trust, no matter what, are your family. But when they prove time and again that they are not to be trusted, what do you do?
How many times should you forgive someone? Does that change if they were the one person who was there for you when you were young?
Violet is an incredibly relatable character that you cheer for and root on with all she has going on.
The descriptions of the protest and vandalism paint a clear picture of the situation.
This was a great page turner. I will most definitely be reading more from this author.

Born to Die (The McIntire County Series Book 2) by Winter Austin – Review by Angela Shirley

Born to Die (The McIntire County Series: #2)Born to Die by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cassy has been through hell the past few years, the trauma of her abduction by a madman but when she is sent to cover a spate of robberies and a murder the last person she expected to see is the only one she has to protect her heart from or she will spiral further into her head.

Boyce Hunt left the woman he loved to protect her but her can’t explain that to her, seeing her two years ago and by abducted and tortured was nearly the breaking of him. Although an FBI agent he has a past of criminality and destruction that he hopes does not taint him any further, sent to help on a case of robberies and death he know walking back in Eider will match him the one person he does not want to hurt anymore.

Can they work together without both of them getting attached and do there job or will they come crashing down again?

This is the second book in the series and follows the other River’s Sister Cassy. Cassy first shows up in the first book Atonement, when Agent Hunt agrees you find the dynamic between them is frosty but there is always hint of them thawing as the story went on. Now in this book it delves deeper into the relationship and the hidden past of Hunt and the totally devastation him leaving caused Cassy which is brilliant to read.

I would say that this book can be read as a stand alone but I would definitely read the books in order as in the first book you understand the nature of why Cassy is so traumatise by that event and how Boyce and her rekindled the relationship. This book is full of thrilling turns and twists and as you follow with the investigation you slow uncover the clues as they do.

I love that Boyce is just as vulnerable as Cassy as in the first story you did not get to see the full extent of his character and this delves more into his history and past and how this has shaped him to be how he is and what he has done to protect the ones he loves.

If you are looking for a fast pace, murder, mayhem with suspense, violence and action this is the book for you and if you have not read the first book in this series I suggest you do and Can’t wait for the next instalment.

When one of her own gets taken out Deputy Rivers is put on the case. Add to that a bunch if robberies taking place and they have to call in the big guns, her former flame Detective Hunt. He thought he was doing her a favor by leaving her when he started being blackmailed, but they’re about to be to be in close quarters once again. Will they keep things strictly professional or risk another broken heart? I have read these books somewhat out of order, but they are all worth reading. It was great to see Deputy Rivers grow as a character and she has grown a lot. I also like the take the author puts into how agent Hunt’s mind works. I have lined myself up to read book 4, but first I must go read these to get a better understanding of everything that has gone on. This is a great whodunit and will keep you guessing as you turn the pages.

The beginning of the book has you in suspense as to what is going on at that moment and keeps you reading nonstop. This book is very well written and it flows really well. All the characters are very well developed which makes for a good story. The characters are also very relatable. I like how the author includes details that were in the first book into this one, it does make the book series interrelated which is all the better.

The Mother's ThreatThe Mother’s Threat by Susan Specht Oram
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This fast-paced read wasn’t quite what I was expecting. While touching on many tough subjects (including a volatile mother-daughter relationship, protesting for a cause, and incompetent city officials), The Mothers Threat falls short of the expected thrill and suspense. The focus seemed to be mainly on Violet and Daisy’s barely veiled by love hostility toward one another rather than the impending threat posed by the protesters. There were definitely some moments where I questioned whether Violet would be able to remain professional in the face of her mother’s insensitive, selfish, criminal actions. The storyline also felt a bit disjointed, like some elements, such as the anarchists trashing the town, were thrown in without much reason behind it. Overall, a quick read that left me wanting more than what was there.

Born to Die (The McIntire County Series Book 2) by Winter Austin. I am loving this series and I can’t wait for the next. This author is quickly becoming one of my very favorites. This can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading them in order to get to know all the characters. This is Cassy’s story. Cassy is a Deputy in Elder, Iowa and there is a new case that is creating havoc in town. They are going to have to call in Special Agent Boyce Hunt to come back to Elder to help with the case. Cassy is not happy with that because Boyce broke her heart to the point she doesn’t think she will ever try again. Due to Cassy’s past she is very shattered and that past left her broken to the point she never wanted to try again but she trusted Boyce and gave him her heart and all he did was love her and leave her. Boyce has demons in his past as well, such as his mother is a criminal, and he doesn’t want Cassy to get hurt by that. He loves Cassy but knows she deserves better than him. Will he be able to convince Cassy he won’t hurt her ever again and will they be able to find the criminal before more murders occur? Read this wonderful romantic suspense to find out!

Born to Die is the second book in The McIntire County Series. This book can be read as a stand-alone. In this book, we follow Cassy Rivers. We first got to know Cassy in the first book Atonement. Cassy is investigating a series of robberies that led to the death of a fellow officer. She finds herself having to work with FBI agent Boyce Hunt, the man who broke her heart. This is such an engaging story. There are plenty of twists and turns. The author keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out the case. I really enjoyed getting to know more about Cassy. The interactions between her and Boyce draw you in. Another great mystery by Winter Austin.
