Liar, Liar (The McIntire County Series: #4)Liar, Liar by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is a fantastic addition to the series and was just as interesting and compelling as the others. It can be read as a standalone, although the whole series is worth reading. I was pulled straight into the story, which was complex and detailed. A lot happens throughout the story and I enjoyed watching it all unfold.
The characters were interesting and engaging. I liked the history between and the layer it added to the story. their chemistry was evident from the offset, and watching them navigate everything part of what made this book so good. I have enjoyed every book from this series and I can wait for more.

Liar, Liar (The McIntire County Series: #4)Liar, Liar by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my goodness, I have changed my mind, all the books in this series are my favorites. This is Shane and Liza’s story. Shane is the Sheriff and this is the craziest case yet. The adventures that come out of this case of figuring out who took out Gene Avery is wild. Liza Bartholomew is Boyce’s ex-FBI partner come back on a secret mission. The twists and turns, you just don’t see it coming. The characters in this town are crazy. Kind of like Mayberry gone wild. I loved seeing some of the ones from the past books come back into the story. I wish this series could just go one. I have a feeling McIntire County has many more secrets. I have enjoyed watching Shane and Liza’s romance develop. These two are a pair I didn’t quite see coming. They both had issues to work through. I have enjoyed this book. This whole series is so full of action, you just can’t go wrong. It’s the best series I’ve read this year.

Winter Austin perpetually answers the question: “were you born in the winter?” with a flat “nope,” but believe her, there is a story behind her name.

A lifelong Mid-West gal with strong ties to the agriculture world, Winter grew up listening to the captivating stories told by relatives around a table or a campfire. As a published author, she learned her glass half-empty personality makes for a perfect suspense/thriller writer. Taking her ability to verbally spin a vivid and detailed story, Winter translated that into writing deadly romantic suspense, mysteries, and thrillers.

When she’s not slaving away at the computer, you can find Winter supporting her daughter in cattle shows, seeing her three sons off into the wide-wide world, loving on her fur babies, prodding her teacher husband, and nagging at her flock of hens to stay in the coop or the dogs will get them.

She is the author of multiple novels, with more on the way.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Notebook Mysteries ~ A Party to Remember was such a great an easy read to fall into! My last book was super deep and dark and this was exactly what I needed. I was not aware that it was a series, but the author did a wonderful job introducing all the characters in such a way that I was able to keep up but I feel would not have been redundant to those who did not jump right into the middle. A definite page turner, I was captivated all the way from cover to cover. Would definitely recommend!

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series Book 3) by Winter Austin – Review by Angela Shirley

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jolie Murdock is a new deputy in the Eider Police department following in the footsteps of her cousins can she make this her home and find the confidence she has been lacking over the past years. When she is given the disappearance of a missing girl, she goes about trying to find her but when she stumbles across the body of the missing girls father, can she solve the murder, find the girl and help a friend out without losing herself in the process?

Xavier decided to come to Eider to banish old wounds but when he is found over the dead body of the missing girl’s father with no memory of how he has got there, it’s up to him and Jolie to pick through his memory to discover what happened. As Jolie and Xavier investigate the murder more secrets and similarities come out of the woodwork and although Xavier and Jolie are saw her did not kill anyone there is still a doubt in Xavier’s head.

This is the third book in this series, and we shift from the characters in the first two books to a whole new heroine, Jolie at the beginning is trying to find herself and is feeling like she can’t do her job but when she stumbles into a murder her confidence starts to pick up and you see the drive in her to do justice for the victim and the missing girl.

Xavier’s character is interesting, and I love that he is flawed but has the courage to trust that Jolie will get to the bottom of blackout and trust that he is not the murderer, with his history of the military you have a small glimpse into his hurt and brokenness from his service and the horrific injuries he sustained.
The secondary characters as always adds to flow and overall enjoyment of the story, with the fasted pace action and uncovering the secrets and thrilling twists and turns this is another winner in my eyes.
Thank you, Winter, and hope to read book 4 in the future.

Beautiful Dangerous (Philly Heat Series Book 4) by Becky Flade – Review by M Policicchio

Beautiful Dangerous (Philly Heat series, #4)Beautiful Dangerous by Becky Flade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This author adds another thrilling addition to the series. These sweet romances are deceptive thrillers with killer instincts.

Hannah Patel is a Public Defender. She isn’t doing it for the clout or the politics, definitely not for the money, Hannah is a PD because she feels that everyone deserves a good defense. It has been a rough patch for Hannah. Her family is still grieving the loss of her brother about a year ago, she was punched in open court when a decision didn’t go the way her client thought it should, she had a panic attack in front of a well respected judge, and her stalker left an even more threatening note on her car this morning.

Doyle Murphy, Special Victims Unit Detective, is on sabbatical, trying to decide what he wants to do with his life. After a phone call from a friend, Doyle talks to Hannah about the notes that the stalker has been leaving her. Doyle starts to feel alive again. It has been awhile since he has done police work and his need to protect Hannah is igniting that spark that got doused long ago.

As the stalker starts to escalate, Doyle is slowly unraveling this mystery. But is it soon enough? People in Hannah’s world are getting hurt. All clues are pointing back to her stalker. Is he responsible? It all comes to a fevered pitch when the police arrest someone. But is it the right someone?

The action doesn’t stop. The twists lead to the turns which lead to more twists. This endearing cast of characters seem to be weaving together for something more. Only time will tell! Wonderful series!

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series Book 3) by Winter Austin – Review by Julie Johnson

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Winter Austin knocks another one out of the park with the next story in The McIntire Series!! I do highly recommend reading these in order as the characters build on each other and the back stories will help this story make more sense.

Jolie is a new deputy on the force. She’s got some pretty big shoes to fill as her father was the sheriff previous to the one currently in office. Jolie is still trying to recover from the events with her brother and his subsequent arrest and imprisonment.

Xavier is bartending at the local bar and grill. He’s doing his best to keep his cover under the bar. When he shows up at the wrong place at the wrong time, he’s the only suspect to a murder. Did he do it? He’s not really sure himself.

This is a rapid pageturner!! There is a lot of action, family drama, missing people, bodies showing up in the strangest of places, and some romance. Overall, a highly enjoyable book and series!!

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another gripping read in this series of books, and once again I was hooked from page one. Jolie Murdoch is a newly pinned deputy in McIntire County and her first big case is to locate a missing girl. The case gets even more complicated when the girl’s father is found murdered, seemingly by the local bartender Xavier Hartmann who was also found at the crime scene. Jolie has to work out why Xavier, with no apparent motive would suddenly bludgeon a man to death. However, the former marine who has a traumatic brain injury has no memory of what happened or why he was there. Xavier was in Eider to confront his past and is shocked to be the number one suspect in a murder, meanwhile Jolie is working hard to investigate whilst fighting against mounting pressure to get to the truth. Jolie realises that Xavier might be innocent and he finds himself drawn to her, but someone seems determined to stop both Jolie’s investigation and her developing relationship with Xavier. Once again the setting of McIntire County was brought vividly to life by the descriptive narrative, which made me feel immersed in the story. The storyline and plot twists along with the great characters all kept me happily turning the pages, and I look forward to the next book in this series.

This book is another great addition to a brilliant series. A lot happens with the story and the characters and it all pulls you into the book with ease. I really enjoyed these characters and I think they have to be my favourite of the series so far. The had a strong connection and I enjoyed watching how they navigated everything thrown at them.
The story is full of suspense and intrigue. There were plenty of pieces to try and put together and it was great to see if I could figure it all out. I have really enjoyed this whole series so far and I am looking forward to whatever the author does with it next.

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series Book 3) by Winter Austin – Review by Kerry Carr

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the McIntire County Series. I have loved these books from the first one. Each story can be read as a standalone however personally I do advise to read them from the start so you get a better idea of the characters, their links to each other and the pasts they share.
This story is a crime mystery story with a sprinkle of Suspense and romance thrown into the mix.
In this story we are with Jolie and Xavier.
Jolie has has a tough time of things with her brother turning out to be a killer and the pressure from her father to do well and progress in her career she has a lot going on. Now with a missing girl to find the pressure ramps up even more. So the last thing she wanted to find was a dead body and Xavier next to it covered in blood.
Now she has more questions that answers. Why would someone murder this person? And even though all the evidence is pointing to Xavier could he really be the killer? Is Xavier’s sudden memory loss just a convenient tactic or is there something going on with Xavier that Jolie doesn’t know.
Xavier is a former marine who was left with a traumatic brian injury after an IED exploded taking away his leg in the process. He is a secretive man, no one really knows much about his past or his continued issues with the brain injury that causes him to black out. When he is found with the body he realises things look bad and with no memory of what actually happened he doesn’t even know himself if he committed the crime or not.
As Jolie starts to investigate she realises links between this missing girl and a cold case which if that’s the case means that Xavier  is innocent. But as the evidence mounts there seem to be more questions than answers and with Xavier  being secretive about his past it makes it even harder to trust him.

Jolie believes Xavier is innocent and is determined to prove that even if that means at times her judegment is impaired and causing her to put her job on the line. He is innocent? Or is Jolie to stubborn and so determined to be proved right that she will discard things that don’t paint the picture she expects.
This is a fast paced murder mystery with 2 main characters that have their flaws but they are trying to work through them.
Jolie’s character was a little unsure of herself to begin with so it was lovely to watch her grow and blossom, and also Xavier’s character it was nice to see him let down so of his boundaries and let people see the real him.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the next one.

Beautiful Dangerous is a suspenseful thriller that kept me turning pages. Hannah is a public defender with a stalker whose intentions are starting to become more aggressive. Doyle is in law enforcement and was asked by a friend to help out Hannah and since he is on sabbatical has agreed to help her out. The chemistry between these two can’t be missed but they have bigger problems. They both have demons they are trying to overcome. Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series Book 3) by Winter Austin – Review by Shea Gilkerson 10/1/23

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Back to the Eider police department and the officers and detectives within to protect the community. This addition to the series focuses on newly pinned deputy Jolie Murdock – cousin of Nic and Cassy from the previous books in the series.

When Jolie starts the pursuit of a missing girl after a community event, she instead finds the freshly dead body of the girls father, with local bartender and former marine Xavier Hartmann leaning over him, covered in his blood, with no memory of what happened or how he got there. With his traumatic brain injury that stems from an IED blast while in the service, he realizes he has had another blackout and can’t be sure he didn’t kill this man. When he is taken to the hospital, siblings that no one knew existed show up to throw an extra wrench into things.

While trying to wade through all the evidence, believing Xavier is innocent, Jolie discovers similarities between the missing girl and a cold case from when her father was sheriff. She begins to dig deeper, and along the way discovers many secrets in both her own life as well as Xavier’s.

I love the way the community keeps building as Austin continues this series. While they’re all able to be read as standalones, they’re much more fun to enjoy when you have the basis of the previous books in the series and some background on important characters.

Austin does a wonderful job showing how much our military continues to go through, even after the hell of war. She shows their strength, abilities, loyalties and more. These books are great suspenseful reads that offer danger and intrigue while throwing in enough chemistry amongst characters to offer a different kind of tension. Really looking forward to book 4!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars

Sins of the Father is the third engrossing instalment in the McIntire County series by Winter Austin. This series just keeps getting better with each new instalment. I highly recommend reading the previous two books before starting on this one, as they will help to ‘build’ a bigger picture and help immerse you in the series.
This is a fantastic romantic suspense that has all the clever, suspenseful, and gripping touches that I have come to expect from Ms. Austin. It has crime and investigation, mystery, intrigue, secrets, action, politics, duty/responsibility vs loyalty, family dynamics, discovery, determination, chemistry, and emotion- w ith plenty of gripping and dramatic developments that will keep you flipping the pages to discover how it all plays out in the end.
This is Jolie and Xavier’s story, and I was hooked right from the beginning. This is quite the tangled web that Jolie is determined to untangle- as Ms. Austin takes us on quite an intriguing ride. Missing girls, a brutal murder, trauma, pain, memory issues, a bit of a ‘pressure-pot’ situation, doubts, questions, and passion- makes for a gripping read. ‘Sins of the Father’ makes a superb addition to the series, and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in Book #4!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Winter Austin!

Beautiful Dangerous (Philly Heat series, #4)Beautiful Dangerous by Becky Flade
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I haven’t come across a book yet in The Philly Heat Series I didn’t enjoy. I feel like this is a series that just gets better as it goes. Beautiful Dangerous being my favorite so far. This author brings to you a smattering of people in law enforcement, DAs office, Public Defenders, the FBI all in these books. This one is no different. Unexpected romance with an investigation going on around it. This is Hannah and Doyle’s story.
Hannah, a public defender, has been receiving threatening messages from a stalker. After being assaulted by one of her clients she comes into contact with Detective Doyle. He’s hard headed but so is she, which causes them to butt heads. All he’s trying to do is help her.
Taking an emotional/mental sabbatical from work Detective Doyle does a favor for a friend, by checking into this woman’s threat. She hasn’t had it easy with the police department because of her occupation. What he didn’t expect were for things to start getting personal. A line he doesn’t want to cross.
What happens when the stalker escalates?
Do Doyle and Hannah cross that line between business & personal?
So many questions, but the author gives you all the answers. She keeps the reader on their toes wanting more. A book written well as a standalone but I encourage the entire series be read, even if its out of order.

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series: #3)Sins of the Father by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sins of the Father (The McIntire County Series Book 3) by Winter Austin. I have truly loved this series. They can be read as standalone’s but I recommend reading them in order just to get a handle on who is who. This installment is about Jolie who is a Deputy Sheriff in McIntire County and she is coming off a bad case where she wasn’t successful. It has shaken her confidence and caused her to not believe in herself. When a young girl is missing she is in charge of the case. She does find a body but its not the young girl and hanging around the body is local Xavier a bartender who is suffering from a traumatic brain injury from being in the Marines. Xavier has tons of secrets from his past and being caught by this body is going to cause them to all come out. Xavier is a very private man and doesn’t want everyone knowing his business. Does Jolie just assume that Xavier is the killer and closes the case or does she see thru him and see that there is more to the guy than just a crazy war vet. The more time Jolie spends with Xavier she really likes him. Is she letting her feelings get in the way of doing her job? Read this awesome installment in the McIntire County Series to find out!

Born to Die (The McIntire County Series Book 2) by Winter Austin – Review by Shea Gilkerson 9/17/23

Born to Die (The McIntire County Series: #2)Born to Die by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

To start, I really really love when series branch out into other characters stories and link them. It’s such a treat to read books that delve a little deeper the further they go.

Another series following the Eider police force after the events of book 1. Nic’s PTSD was triggered, she was put in danger by a lunatic, and she has been working her way through the aftermath ever since. We meet Detective Cassy Rivers in this addition to the series. The Eider PD is active again with a series of random robberies occurring, and a fight to find the thieves once they suffer the loss of a fellow officer. Losing an officer gets the FBI called in, and it just so happens to be the man who broke Cassy’s heart that shows up to lead the charge.

Agent Boyce Hunt broke her heart the first time in order to protect her from his mother and the criminal enterprise she runs, knows she can’t possibly be interested in being around him again, and has given up on the prospect of finding happiness. Cassy is still struggling with her feelings about the past, floundering when being put into rotation with the ex love of her life, and grieving the loss of her fellow officer. Will they be able to focus on the case, or is their history and chemistry going to keep pulling them harder?

Suspense, chemistry, danger, family dramas, and flames of passion abound in this book. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn more as the series continues.

Beautiful Dangerous (Philly Heat series, #4)Beautiful Dangerous by Becky Flade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another enjoyable and engaging romantic suspense story in this exciting series which I’ve enjoyed reading. This was a real page turner of a story, as Detective Doyle Murphy has to protect Public Defender Hannah Patel from an obsessed and terrifying stalker. Hannah’s brother was tragically murdered and for the following year she withdrew to the comfort of her family and career. However, as time passed she realised that the man who is obsessed with her is now a real threat. Meanwhile, Doyle was doubting his future in law enforcement following a fatal error, but being put in charge of protecting Hannah could be his redemption. However, they didn’t expect to find each other attractive and then their forced closeness results in their genuine feelings to develop. Their relationship seems to annoy the stalker though, making him even more dangerous and putting both their lives at risk. I was hooked from start to finish and the descriptive narrative brought both the characters and setting to life, making me feel immersed in the storyline. The plot twists kept me guessing as to the outcome of the story, and I felt invested in the likeable and relatable Hannah and Doyle’s relationship.

Can’t say much because you’ll have to read to learn it but this is some action packed entertainment wrapped in a mystery. Nic, Con, Cassy, and Sheriff Hamilton are all here to help her as she makes her big deputy ‘debut.’ Some twists that I didn’t see coming. antagonists that I didn’t see coming with some big britches and some strong strength from Officer Murdoch. Excellent book and series that I recommend highly.

Beautiful Dangerous (Philly Heat Series Book 4) by Becky Flade – Review by Heidi Sturgess

Beautiful Dangerous (Philly Heat series, #4)Beautiful Dangerous by Becky Flade
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was phenomenal! Absolutely nerve wracking but brilliant!

Hannah Patel , public defender, tragically lost her brother and she is so focused on her career and family but she also has an admirer aka a stalker and he’s getting bolder , she’s in danger and because she’s seen as the enemy her support is next to nothing but there are still some good guys out there and they come to her aid ….

Hannah enjoys rowing and it’s her release and I’ll be honest she makes it look rather tempting 😉I love her gentle heart and that volunteers at a shelter ❣️🐾and that’s how Oscar joins her family and bless his little canine heart he comes through when she needs it most ! Love you buddy 🥰🐾

Doyle is on a sabbatical after a rather harrowing case but when a friend calls in a favour he sees the real danger lurking ..,.

Things really get hairy at a stage and I’m so grateful Doyle is around and that he knows people that can help and just as it looks like everything is safe you get this eerie feeling and spot on some more hair raising action comes our way ! But all is well that ends well😉and there were some really “ oh my gosh “ moments for me where I thought this is it , she’s a goner and she’s braver than I would’ve been !

Newly pinned deputy Jolie Murdoch’s first big job as a McIntire County deputy is to locate a missing girl. But why would local bartender Xavier Hartmann go off the deep end and bludgeon a man to death?

A former marine, Xavier is barely coping with a traumatic brain injury, and he has no memory of what happened at the crime scene. He came to Eider to confront his past, not get embroiled in a murder as the number one suspect. To make matters worse, as the mystery deepens, Xavier finds himself drawn to the reluctant deputy.

As Jolie fights against mounting pressure to get to the truth, she realizes there’s more to Xavier than meets the eye. But someone is lingering on the fringes, determined to put a stop to her investigation and Xavier’s freedom. Will Jolie do her sworn duty or buck the status quo to give her and Xavier’s newfound passion a chance?
