The Golden Garza (Red Cage Book #4) by S. Ann Cole – Review by Angela Hayes

The Golden Garza (Red Cage, #4)The Golden Garza by S. Ann Cole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“I just want to know who I am, where I belong.”

“ One mistaken touch, one mistaken caress, one almost mistaken taste, and already I’m fighting battles I shouldn’t. I brush my fingers under my nose. It shouldn’t be possible, but, (f)uck, I can still smell her. ”

“ Me? I’m non-confrontational, introverted, socially awkward, and have no clue who I am. I go through the motions of life and lose myself in exercise because it’s the only thing that gives me a satisfying rush and reminds me that there’s a beating organ inside me. ”

“Most people would be running in the opposite direction after what went down today,” he says. “But you’re running toward the fire. Why?”
Inhaling an unsteady breath, I answer, “Because I’d rather get burned than continue to walk around feeling like a ghost. An empty shell. A lie.”

“ She likes to play coy behind her bubblegum scent, cute, braided pigtails, blinding bright colors, but she’s no saint. Soleil Stratton is a calculated sinner, just like I am. ”

The Golden Garza is the fourth book in the Red Cage series by S. Ann Cole. It is a fantastic romantic suspense with sizzling chemistry, action, danger, intrigue, drama, angst, tension, mystery, humour, banter, family bonds, a private investigation firm, emotion, and so much more.
I love everything about this series and was so excited to find this fourth book had released. I put aside everything else I was reading so I could plunge into this book and soak it all up. I love the Garza’s! And even though we get to ‘meet’ the family members through the other instalments, I love it when each one gets their own book and we can get to know them so much better.
Tripp is the youngest of the Garza brothers, he’s a bit of an enigma- a wild card and adrenaline junky. Always looking for ways to feed his inner demon, whether it be motor sports, underground fighting, MMA, secret covert missions, no-strings sex, or flying down the freeway as fast as his motorcycle will take him…. Tripp always lives close to the edge. Soleil is his younger sister’s best friend- and entirely off-limits. So, it’s lucky that he finds her completely annoying. Really! He can’t stand her. He can barely tolerate being around her. So, helping her when she needs it the most is completely out of character for him. Keeping her safe becomes top priority, especially when everything she ever thought she knew was nothing but a lie…. There’s more to her story than meets the eye. And he’s just the man to get to the bottom of it all. But what happens when feelings become involved? But what happens if the past doesn’t want to be revealed? What happens when secrets come to light? Well, the tension mounts, the suspense increases, sparks fly and the pages sizzle as it all unfolds- making for a riveting, unputdownable read…
Even though this is the fourth book in the series, it could be read as a standalone, but let me tell you, you would definitely be missing out! The other books are fantastic in their own rights, as well as giving more depth and detail to the other characters, and providing backstories that are incredibly intriguing. Having all those other details on board before you start this book, will definitely enhance your reading experience of not only this book, but the series as a whole.
I am excited to see that Tillie will be getting her own book with the next instalment, “The Crowned Garza”- but also a little sad to discover that it will be the conclusion to this brilliant series…. not sure I am ready to say goodbye yet. But, still…… Bring on Book #5!!!!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, S. Ann Cole!

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1) by R.L. Dunn – Review by Beverly Finnie

Handle With Care (Chase Care Book 1)Handle With Care by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m not sure how I feel about this book, so I’m going to start this another way and I’ll make a decision at the conclusion. First let’s start by saying the way this book reads, tells me the author did a lot of research before writing. It might be a book of fiction but Handle with Care read as something that could be very informative as well. There was slight romance tied in, but it mainly focused on a deadly outbreak and how to stop it. Finding the source of how it started. Containing it to the general encampment of 400,000 people. Yes, that’s a lot of people but worldwide would be worse. Finding out why it impacted men at a more casualty rate than women. The author when answering those questions put lots of thoughts and responses behind it.
There was really only one question that came to mind while reading it. That was, Was this intentional? A question that’s addressed by characters and becomes part of the context about midway through, then till the end is how to answer that question and respond.
Dr. Hunter Montgomery and Dr. Selma Bryant have known each other for years. Both of them former military medics for different branches of the military. However they constantly crossed paths and worked together. Selma was married at the time so personal interest between them wasn’t a thing. Even though her husband suspected it was. Now years later they’ve found one another again and are building a life together, till Selma runs. And ran she did, right to the UN relief agency Doctors Abroad, which landed her in Northern Rusda. Signing a contract that would bring her home in April she thought she was doing a great thing and helping out those who didn’t have easy access to care, despite the real reason she was there.
You can guess what happens next: people start getting sick/dying at an alarming rate and they can’t figure out the how and why? As I continued to read I started to wonder if the jealous ex-husband had something to do with it. At the same time that would be a lot to get revenge on one person. So I bumped it to the back burner but the question continued to simmer.
This book is written to me in a journal type format, each day this is what happens. I think that’s what took me out of it some. I didn’t dislike it but I didn’t love it either.
If you enjoy medical outbreak dramas this is definitely for you. The author displays knowledge and understanding of what’s being written. Giving the reader so much information to help them understand everything that’s going on keeping them locked in on the story.

Straight for the Kill (Benoit and Dayne Mystery Book 3) by Winter Austin – Review by Erin DeRoma

Straight for the Kill (Benoit and Dayne Mystery, #3)Straight for the Kill by Winter Austin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The 3rd book in the Benoit and Dayne Mystery series. Can be read as a standalone, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t read the first 2. I read them out of order reading book 2 first, 1 second and this one 3rd.
One would think that you would need a notebook and create some kind of character map for all of the characters you are introduced to in this series, but Austin writes in such a way that you follow along with ease. The characters are actually a huge reason why I love this series, I’m attached and invested at this point. they have become my book besties.
The plot just like the two before keeps you guessing until the very end.

Straight for the Kill (Benoit and Dayne Mystery, #3)Straight for the Kill by Winter Austin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I honestly don’t know where to begin with this one. It had me hook, line, and sinker from the very beginning of the novel. Overall I rate it 4.5 stars – somewhere between I REALLY like this novel and I LOVE this novel. This is book three of the Benoit and Dayne Mystery series and I am pretty sure the only reason it wasn’t a ‘love’ was because I have never read the first two booked.

The writing in Straight for the Kill is amazing. It weaves the web of mystery surrounding the murder very well. I really enjoyed the character and character development. It did take me longer than a week to read it a little at a time due to having kiddos and a full time job, but I did not want to put it down ever. Every time I had to I thought about it often.

If you want an edge of your seat mystery – this book is for you. I couldn’t recommend it enough. From here, I am going to be going back to find book one and reading the series from the very beginning.

I love thrillers and Chatroom With a View does not disappoint. This a captivating story about Troy Cullen and the killer gene passed down through generations of his family. Troy’s dysfunctional family and later his ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy cause Troy to lose control. This book is captivating and dark in equal measure. The characters are very well-written and while I found them reprehensible, I also understood their actions. The plot is great and I found myself unable to put this book down. I consider this one of the best thrillers that I have read in a while. This is a must-read for thriller lovers.

However, one night, Troy sees his parents in the cabin in the back yard and he realizes he has to go save his mom.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow! What a book. I don’t think it is over for Elizabeth and Lila. The whole thing had been going on for too long for it just to be over now. But I guess we will see in the next one.

Elizabeth Benoit, County Sheriff, is haunted by the deaths of her friends. When the anniversary is recognized by another young girl turning up dead in a similar fashion, Elizabeth must confront the ghosts of the past and the evils of the present. The only problem is that she is laid up because of recent emergency surgery and the lead detective has declared that half the sheriff’s department can’t be involved in the investigation due to close ties to the original victims.

Enter Lila Dayne. Recent transplant to the area and the Deputy Detective in charge of the case. As much as she needs to maintain the departmental distance from the current case, the players are too interwoven. Lila has to overcome her own demons to successfully solve this case. As Lila and Elizabeth race against the clock and unseen players to keep loved ones safe, the realization that those loved ones just might be the bad guys sets in. Will they lose everything and everyone as they work to put a stop to the evil haunting the county since they were kids?

Once you figure out all the players, the action and pace keeps you on the edge of your seat and pages turning. Kept secrets and promised threats keep these two finding twists and turns, never knowing who they can trust. Will finding the killer bring everything to a conclusion? We don’t know. So many questions were answered, some many secrets uncovered, but was everything and all the players?? Looking forward to the next installment to find out!! Great read!

Absolution by Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray – Review by Diane Sennett

AbsolutionAbsolution by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a page turner. Dominic and Julianna are young lovers, forbidden to see each other. After a romantic evening turned to an argument, Dominic leaves and Julianna disappears. Dominic is accused of her disappearance and murder.
After a year and a half, Dominic is acquitted of the charges and begins a new life, fueled by revenge. His life is turned on axis again when he sees Whitney, Julianna’s doppelganger.
This romance is full of dark romance and BDSM scenarios. The plot takes many twists and turns, as we learn that Whitney didn’t just cross paths with Dominic, she has a purpose: Julianna.
This book had me hooked from beginning to end; although some parts of Whitney’s life go unanswered, I enjoyed reading and would recommend this book.

Anise does it again. A totally unexpected spin on another amazing angst filled romance. Dominic, Juliana, and Whitney are all amazing characters and they are perfect for the storyline. I was hanging on for dear life with this one. Lots of amazing twists and turns, highs and lows. Revenge is the goal and one I wasnt sure could be accomplished. As always a romance novel with Anise Storm’s name is one you should read no question there. She writes a tale that makes you feel as if you are there, and you can’t help but buckle in and enjoy the ride right to the very end. I was up all night reading this book because I couldn’t put it down!

Sizzle, heat & steam
This contemporary romance, with a dash of paranormal, follows Dominic and Whitney as they navigate demons from the past and danger in the present. This is a well written book but it did feel a little repetitive at times. Besides these little bumps the book had a strong engaging storyline and a helluva lot of steam. Recommend.

If you are like me and love a detailed story then this book of for you. The author doesn’t skip over even the smallest of details making the picture form that much more clearly. This cute (yes, I know cute is an interesting word to use to describe crime) mystery is full of drama, intrigue, fun and charm. This was my first book by this author and they did not disappoint. I felt the both the storyline and the characters were very well developed and complementary toward each other. While this was a fairly quick read I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Absolution by Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray – Review by Beverly Finnie

AbsolutionAbsolution by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a twisted story! But let me tell you how much I loved it!! I read it straight through and couldn’t put it down. There’s a lot going on in Absolution with some twists and turns. Especially emotional ones. The author doesn’t let up at all. Putting the reader through the ringer. At the same time making you fall in love with the characters as well. I figured the two big twists out before reveal but it was worth the mystery and suspense of it all.
If you don’t mind spice and you can look past it to get to the meat of the story, you’ll be hooked. The spice is just an added bonus. You’ll be the one trying to solve the mystery and get closure. You’ll be emotionally invested that you will need to finish. That you will want to know if you’re right or wrong. It’s the challenge of figuring out the puzzle that keeps one glued to the pages.
Whitney has an uncanny resemblance to Dominic’s ex-girlfriend Juliana. So uncanny he thinks she’s here back to torment him. Her family put him through the ringer when she disappeared and now he was prepared to get his revenge. Which means she must be here to disrupt his plans. It’s too much of a coincidence.
Whitney on the other hand, at Juliana’s insistence, is the only one who will be able to bring him closure. It’s just a matter of how? Especially when Dominic loathes her, for someone he believes she is.
I drew a lot of comparisons when reading this story. For one spicy romance, which meets Count of Monte Cristo revenge, sprinkled in with a supernatural element. If that does intrigue you, I don’t know what will.
My parting words for anyone who comes across this book. READ IT! And TRUST me when I say, you won’t be disappointed.

Beware of the trigger warnings.

Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray have collaborated again to give us another dark, dark tale. And what a tale it is. The story is a complex one where not everything is as it seems. With lies and secrets, struggles and suspense, emotions run high.
It is an interesting premise with paranormal elements. I wanted to be wowed but I wasn’t. I liked this story but didn’t love it. It has a lot of potential to be a great story but didn’t make the mark for me. There is a lot of unnecessary information/details and a lot of repetition which interferes with the flow of the story. There are twists and turns some you don’t see but others you do.
You will definitely question Dominic and his ways. He is domineering, rude, crude and ruthless and at times I wanted to do away with him but in others I wanted to hug him. The other characters were interesting but the whole ghost thing needed much more development and narrative as far as the sudden “gift”.
There is much more to the journey than what they realise. He is cruel and out for revenge and nothing else matters. She just wants to deliver a message.
There are elements of Kink and BSDM, death and doppelgängers, ghosts and murder, sex trafficking and much more.
This is an emotional read with a lot going on.

This story is another classic Benoit and Dayne story. Like the second book, this one did not seem like a series to me. Which is no complaint, I like my books to be free of the need for them to be in order. She perfectly restated who everyone was but still gives bits to the past books. This storyline is my favorite out of all three she has made in the Benoit and Dayne line. The twists were successful in the suspense of this book. Will you find out the answer before someone else is hurt? Is the killer someone they know? You successfully find out in the reading of Straight For the Kill.

I have read a few books from this author and she continues to blow my mind. I love how she makes her books from both characters’ points of view. This is the fourth book of the amazing Red Cage series. I was so excited to read this one I stopped everything and started this one immediately. I could not put this book down until the very end. I can’t wait to see what this amazing author will write about next.

Soleil is so excited to actually see her best friend in person. When she gets there she is told to sleep in her older brother’s room because he is gone. She is surprised when she wakes up to Tripp lying next to her. Soleil knows that Tripp can’t stand her but her world falls apart. She is shocked when Tripp is the one that says he will help her. They get to know each other and sparks fly. Will Soleil get her bad boy after all or is this just a job?

Poor Lila can’t get the shaking fear that the killer is somewhere watching her every move. I don’t like the fact that Elizabeth used Lila to lure the killer to her knowing that she wants to be free of fear. Funny thing that I live close to Chicago LOL.

This is the 2nd book I’ve read In this series. These Garza boys!!! Wow.
I don’t even know where to begin. Soleil comes to
Visit her best friend and they end up staying at her brothers house. Soleil and Tripp have been seriously been into eachother for years but neither had any idea. The first night Tripp returns home and finds a woman in his bed, he thinks it’s Maggie causing Soleil to
Almost get what she wants more then just about anything.
The guys at Red Cage take on big cases and they charge a lot of
Money. I really
Like how all the guys all have totally different personalities. Soleil needs help and she cannot afford to pay them but, luckily
For her, that doesn’t seem to be a problem. When the Garzas care about you, you will be protected. There’s a lot going in on this
Book, definitely suspense, and some steam. I loved how this book was written and just flowed so
Easily. Loved the characters, and loved the friendships. Aside from this book, over read True Garza but might have to go back and read the others. I’m still trying to figure out Guy’s story!!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book but after reading the sleeve I knew I had to read it. Chatroom with a view was far darker than I was expecting; it may be triggering for some. Troy, one of the main characters, character took be through a range of emotions. I started out feeling sympathetic to his history but by the end of the book I found I really did not care for him ( well written character I believe this was the author’s intent). the book was well written, though there were a few places I felt like there was something missing. Even still I would recommend this book. I know I will be reading more of Maynard.

Holy broody, dark, possessive, strong man, Batman. The Golden Garza gets all five stars from me. I truly enjoyed reading Tripp and Sunny’s story, his dark monster, and her warm sunshine. This can be read as a stand-alone as each story is an individual one but there are elements in each book that connect them and would make more sense if they were read in order. Each of these books thankfully has a happy, satisfying ending, and no cliffhangers! You will need to schedule a big chunk of time once you have started this book. I started The Golden Garza and lost and entire day because I just could not stop reading or pull myself away from it. “Didn’t you know?” “Love is madness.”
Once you start to read True Garza and get into Trueman and Londons story you will be immersed and unable to come up for air until you have devoured every last page. I can attest to feeling that way throughout the 24 hours it took me to read this, I just couldn’t stop! I appreciated the real life struggles that True suffered with because as someone who has also been given a diagnosis of ADHD it can be as debilitating and difficult to control as he describes in this book. It takes so much work all the time, being cognizant of what is expected of you, and to ‘try’ to be normal and not speak as Guy in this book states like “tripping over a bunch of wires.” I liked that this book was spicy but that wasn’t the sole focus, there was plenty to follow and love in the interesting storyline as well. This was a fabulous 5 star read and I loved it and the entire Red Cage series so far!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I read some of the reviews before I read it- and I was worried about how dark the story would be- but it was really well written. I didn’t feel like it was dark for the sake of being dark (if that makes any sense?). It was for sure a more creepy, twisty, read than I normally consume but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The characters were very well developed and at times relatable. I had empathy for several of them. The authors writing style was vivid and captivating! Like other reviewers I kind of stumbled my way through the beginning but I’m really glad I gave this book a read. It kept me guessing and excited to continue reading! This was a fantastic start to my first book by this author and I’m eager to read even more! (:
