Taylor's LawTaylor’s Law by Jennifer Raines
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ella has just lost her sister, Chrissy, to cancer and is now caring for her 2-year-old niece, Tessa. Life is challenging but Ella would not have it any other way, treating Tessa like her own. Ella receives a summons, in Chrissy’s name, to Taylor Law from a stranger claiming paternity and potential custody of Tessa. Chrissy never revealed who Tessa’s father was so Ella is worried they will take the little girl that her family cling to in loving memory of her sister.
Meanwhile, Jake is just protecting his family from being taken advantage of after receiving a letter claiming his cousin is the father. This story follows Ella and Jake as they work it out and their mutual attraction grows between them.

Jennifer Raines is now an author I will automatically read! This was a great read. Such depth and heart. Ella is strong and sassy, and I loved the banter between Jake and Ella. The Australian setting was fantastic. The story was so well thought out with a twist you don’t see coming and cleverly crafted characters – some with big hearts and others that I despised – a clear indication the Jennifer is amazing at this whole author thing! I definitely recommend!

This story was enjoyable and definitely tug at my heart strings……with romance, drama, grief and secrets. When Ella’s sister passes away, Ella now becomes the guardian of her niece, Tessa. Ella navigates raising Tessa and trying to work and support her. When legal matters approach Ella with being Tessa’s guardian, Lawyer Jake Taylor just wants what is best for his family while being very leary of Ella and Tessa. All Jake wants to do is protect the hearts of his aunt and uncle, whom after meeting Tessa fall in love with their little grandchild. But as Jake gets to know Ella…will Jake do what is best for both his family and for Tessa and Ella as he also navigates feelings for Ella?

This story was a roller-coaster of emotions for sure….and definitely full of secrets. I loved the little bit of slow burn between Jake and Ella. Definitely looking forward to reading more from this author.

Taylor’s Law (The Anderson Sisters Book 1) by Jennifer Raines – Review by Tara Johnson Barnes

Taylor's LawTaylor’s Law by Jennifer Raines
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ella’s sister, Chrissy, has recently died and Ella has been left to raise her young niece on her own. Ella loves Tessa as her own child and has helped to raise her since she was a baby because Chrissy was too sick to care for her on her own. Ella is still coming to terms with the death of her sister when she receives a letter summoning her to Taylor law to discuss paternity and custody of Tessa. Ella is in shock over the letter and is scared to death of losing Tessa.

When Ella arrives at the law office of Jacob Taylor, she is expecting to meet him alone but instead finds him sitting with an older gentleman. It turns out the older man is the father to the man Chrissy has stated was Tessa’s father, Drew Browning. Ella is shocked when news is revealed to her of a letter that her sister Chrissy was supposed to have written to Drew prior to her death. It seems that her sister had some secrets that she kept well hidden from Ella.

Jake has the best interests of his aunt and uncle at heart and thinks that Ella is trying to con them by saying his cousin, Drew, is Tessa’s biological father. Before they have even determined that Tessa is their granddaughter the Browning’s develop an attachment to the young girl and this concerns Jake. He thinks that Ella is lying and will do everything in his power to protect them from getting hurt and conned. Drew only wants to exploit his relationship with Tessa for his own selfish gain. As secrets are revealed and things ensue Ella and Jake are on opposite sides of a custody battle for Tessa. Both Ella and Jake want to protect Tessa but that becomes complicated by their undeniable attraction to one another.

This book had an overwhelming theme of the love of a family and never giving up. Ella loves her niece as her own child and will do anything to protect her. Jake loves his aunt and uncle and will do anything to keep them from getting hurt. Both Ella and Jake want what is best for young Tessa but Jake is conflicted between the love of his family and the love of a woman. Will he be able to make the right decision? There was a rollercoaster ride of emotions throughout as the story unfolded and secrets are revealed. I highly recommend!

Taylor’s Law (The Anderson Sisters Book 1) by Jennifer Raines – Review by M Policicchio

Taylor's LawTaylor’s Law by Jennifer Raines
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Eleanor “Elle” Anderson is the oldest sister. That position has always come with great responsibility but more so for Elle. Being the eldest on a family farm seemed like so much more, especially after her mom’s accident left her mom not as able as before. Elle was always the responsible one so it was no surprise when she gave up her life to care for her sister, Chrissy, when she was diagnosed with cancer while she was pregnant. Tessa was a gift from Chrissy so that Ella would have a piece of Chrissy forever. Until Ella checked her mail after returning home from the funeral to discover a summons stating that the mystery father was coming forward.

Jake Taylor was thrown off his game when a beautiful woman entered his office with a small child in tow. Instantly this woman brought out a protectiveness in Jake that he could not understand. When the child announced that the woman he had been expecting had ‘gone to heaven’, Jake’s plan was thrown out the window. Now he not only had to deal with his manipulative, back-stabbing, jerk of a cousin, Jake had to navigate the ghosts of the past to protect his family and build a future for the little girl.

As the situation heats up between Jake and Elle, the situation between Jake and his cousin becomes much more strained. Everyone is on edge. Jake has a plan but he didn’t share it with anyone. It could cost him everything.

I truly enjoyed this story. It was a tad challenging as I didn’t know some of the Aussie slang but I used context clues and when that didn’t work, google did. This was such a sweet story. I enjoyed the relationship Jake built with Tessa. I love that Elle was so no nonsense. I loved Elle and Jake’s banter. Worth the read! Great start to the series and fantastic story on its own.

After Ella Aderson’s sister, Chrissy dies she finds herself appointed to care for Chrissy’s young daughter, Tessa. Soon she also finds herself going up against Jacon Taylor, a lawyer representing Drew Browning’s, Tessa’s named father, parents who are seeking custody of the young child. Ella finds herself attracted to Jacob but doesn’t know how to handle the attraction being on opposite sides of this case. This book is well written and structured. I really enjoyed the characters. An easy and engaging read. I couldn’t put it down once I started.
This is a very sweet love story with relatable lovable characters.
This is a bit more of an emotional read than I have been reading lately but I am so very glad I did. I lost my dad to cancer 16 years ago and I truly try to avoid books that have cancer as part of the story line. This was so very well written and I as emotional as it was to read I truly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I can’t wait to read what happens next.

This is the first book in the Anderson Series and it won’t be the last that I’m going to read. This book sucked me in from the beginning and is the kind of heart warming story that keeps me up reading to see if everything works out in the end.
I love Ella, she has the kind of heart that I admire. The kind that is willing to fulfill a promise regardless of the kind of situation she’s in. When Ella’s sister makes her dying wish to be to raise her daughter, it seems like a no brainer for Ella to say yes. What she doesn’t envision is a letter arriving claiming paternity of her sister’s daughter. And that person wants to take custody of Tessa. Ella is prepared to fight and she shows up at Taylor Law to answer the letter. What she doesn’t expect is Taylor, someone she is is going to fight, but also feels an overwhelming response to him one that she can’t explain.
This is the type of easy story that you really can’t put down, filled with emotions and relatable characters.

Jennifer Raines takes readers on a rollercoaster of emotions in Taylor’s Law. The story follows Ella’s journey if loss, love, and grief as she tries to keep custody of her deceased sisters daughter. We see Ella’s passion and love for her niece, Tessa, throughout the story even as Ella’s head is turned by the handsome, pirate-ish lawyer Jake. The love story isn’t written by Hallmark but is still worth the read. The lies, secrets, and unspoken truths will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end! Enjoy!

Ella is struggling to deal with the loss of her sister Chrissy after an intense two year battle with cancer when she receives a summons from Taylor’s Law office to come in for an inquiry. Ella feels blindsided that she is having her ability to care for her niece put into question. Once letters surface there written by her sister, things get a little uglier for the time being.

Jake Taylor is doing all he can to put his law office back on the maps with the right reputation after his last partner pretty much ruined everything for him. Then his aunt and uncle ask for his help in a family matter, when he doesn’t even practice family law. At what lengths can he help his family?

This book was set in Sydney, Australia and was a fun little romantic read. There were a few times when I felt the writing was a little bit choppy but overall this is an enjoyable story. I would hope that no one I know would ever have to endure what Ella has had to endure in keeping her family together!!

This is an emotional and complex story, more so than I thought it would be as I was expecting a typical romance book when I started. But this book has a depth to it you don’t find with most romance books and pull that I hadn’t thought would be there.
The characters completely make this book. They are so well written. They each have their own story, their own voice, and I wanted to listen to all of them. I was invested in the book and the outcome and I couldn’t wait to see how things would resolve. This was a surprising read but a good one nonetheless.

This was my first book by this author and it’s set in Australian. There are a few cultural differences between the book setting and my home country, but overall they aren’t large enough to be confusing. I felt the book jumped in a serious situation quickly and felt almost overwhelmed at the beginning. I found myself having to reread to make sure I understood the situation correctly. I think if the book was a little more of a slow burn, I would have enjoyed it more. The seriousness of the custody battle seemed rushed and left me with questions at times.

I was immediately intrigued by the synopsis of this book and I was not disappointed either. The story of Ella, Jake and Tessa is captivating. I admire Ella and her tenacity, dedication, and loyalty to her sister and niece. She is willing to do whatever it takes, no matter how many hurdles she must jump, in order to fulfill her sister’s last wishes.

Jake, also displayed strong dedication and loyalty to his family ties and ensuring his relatives were not being taken advantage of. As the two face each other in the legal battlefields, they also cannot dismiss the growing attraction between them. The emotions and feelings they possess are conflicting, to say the least. Twists and turns are around every corner, and Ella and Jake are lost in the maze of lies while seeking the truth.

Will the company who took her parents farm land take her niece too? Or will the new head of the company Jacob take her heart instead? This book was a quick read by a new to me author.

Ella finds herself raising her niece, Tessa, after her sister loses her two year battle with cancer. After the funeral, Ella finds a letter for an appointment her sister had with a lawyer they do not have a good history with. She shows up to the appointment only to realize she may lose the loose custody she has of her niece. While all this is happening, Ella inexplicably finds herself drawn to Jake and while he’s sure Ella has something to do with her sisters apparent extortion plot, their chemistry is off the charts. As more secrets are unearthed, Ella isn’t sure who she has on her side but one thing she does know is she will fight for Tessa with everything he has.

I enjoyed this story. It was slightly different than most I’ve read and it kept me engaged. The characters were well written. There was a lot of emotion and tension in this book. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next!

Taylor’s Law is a fresh idea and a good read for fans of contemporary romance stories. This is the first book I have read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. It’s good to see a new Aussie author writing stories within Australia. Jennifer has cleverly woven the threads together with complex layers that leaves you with an intriguing and compelling tale.

This story has a bit of everything to keep the pages turning with power and greed, secrets and lies, wealth and envy, passion and compassion, love and loyalty, angst and fear, humour and more.

Ella has done the ultimate sacrifice but with it comes and unexpected legal problem. But she will fight with everything she has to hold on to the one thing that means more to her than life itself.

Jake is wary and isn’t sure what to think but will he have to choose between family and the woman who needs help.

This wasn’t an easy read but it was also a beautiful read , I know it doesn’t make sense but once you read this you’ll agree with me I’m sure ….

Chrissy is sick , with cancer . Her sister Ella is taking care of her and her daughter Tessa so it wasn’t really a surprise that it’s Chrissy’s wishes that she becomes a Tessa’s guardian ….

Not only has Ella lost and buried her sister , she’s found out she’s a legal guardian and then just to to make matters worse she receives a letter from the very same lawyers firm that gist her family dearly 🥲 good grief how much more must one person deal with !?

Jake and Tessa are fighting their attraction and Jake wasn’t aware of the family history but both want what’s best for dear Tessa ….
While I cried a lot there were a few moments where I just wanted to beat Chrissy with a tennis racquet for the position she left poor Ella by hiding things from her and not playing open cards …..

I cried , I laughed , I got really angry but at the end of the day what will be will be and one just has to have faith that love will prevail ❣️

She’s just barely started the grieving process when she finds a letter from a lawyers office and finds that the letter pertains to a possible paternity suit. Who is the potential father and why is he coming forward now? Her sister never outright said who Tessa’s father was and no father was listed on the birth certificate. When it comes out that her sister was blackmailing this man for money Ella can’t help but wonder what other secrets her sister had hidden from her. Why didn’t her sister let her know that she was trying to contact the potential father? In the process of gearing up for a courtroom showdown over poor Tessa, she is fighting her growing attraction to the young lawyer. Is there potential for a happily ever after or will he break her heart by taking her niece from her?
