True to the core of a dystopian series. This book is filled to the brim with twist and turns, unexpected events, romances, secrets, segregation and more.

Did you like the red queen? What about the hunger games ? Then this book is FOR YOU!

Each character plays a roll into connecting a relationship with a number like a web constantly intersecting.

Blasts from the pasts make way for a future ? I cannot wait to read number 2

This was such a jaw-dropping beautiful start to a series! The author does such a perfect job painting each scene in your head with elaborate details. I feel like each page provided vivid imagery with only text which is incredibly difficult to do. I always love it when maps and descriptions are displayed in the beginning of books to help set the stage so to speak. Each character felt relatable in their own way, and I was completely invested from the beginning. While this is a long read, there is no way you will leave disappointed. I am already eagerly anticipating the second book in an already flawless series!

This was an interesting dystopian read! I really enjoyed the characters and the way the author wrote them. This story takes place in the past and the present following different characters’ points of view. Juliana was definitely my favorite character. I admire her strength and desire to do what’s right. I like the plot of this dystopian world and am looking forward to where the author takes us in book 2. I also enjoyed how in depth the book was without being overwhelming. It is definitely a fine line to accomplish that in a story. Definitely worth the read!!!

From the very beginning, this dystopian had elements of the story that reminded me of Hunger Games and Divergent. I enjoy venturing into the new realms of dystopian novels and this one did not disappoint! It is a bit confusing in the beginning learning how the sequence of events converge. Just to warn readers that this book is a bit lengthy but well worth it. The main theme is a society on a mission to seek peace and order, and as a result castes are created. As special abilities emerge within a small group of people in the castes, seeking justification is sought out but efforts seem to fail. The determination is quite evident and they are seeking for their place in the world!

This is the first book in a dystopian series and I’m glad I came across it. The blurb did not do it justice, it was so much better!

The author created a unique class system and within this system built an incredibly vivid world for the characters to inhabit. The plot(s) had me gripped beginning to end, I’ve not read a dystopian novel that had me so invested in a long time, I’m obsessed.

There’s twists, turns and corruption and it’s written so well! I want to rave about it but don’t want to accidentally give away any spoilers.

I’m emotionally invested in Juliana, her situation and the adjustments she’s had to make and the strength and determination she’s found to survive is palpable. You can feel her emotions as she muddles through the new life she’s been forced into.

Can’t wait to see what’s yet to come in the series!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hope and Lies is Book One in The Abredea Series. It is a dystopian fantasy told from multiple points of view that all help to weave the story together. Each helps to tell the story of Pangaea along with its society, caste system, history, and the rebellion. Told from the point of view of different characters and different time periods we learn how each one has coped through corruption, politics, loss, heartache, struggle for equality, and their journey to self-discovery. The stories will grip you and compel you to read until you see how they all intersect together to tell a much larger story. This storyline will take you through some twists and turns, and a rollercoaster ride of emotions that might have you reaching for the box of Kleenex. Many of the characters are ones that you will become invested in as they struggle through highs and lows and overcome challenges thrown their way. Their strength, perseverance, and resiliency are admirable. Through rebellions, kidnappings, destruction, power struggles, grief, pain, and loss, they can find hope, love, and strength. This book is a beautifully written dystopian fantasy that will have you reading to the end.

For dystopian lovers
This was a brilliant read. The author has a flair for fantasy and builds a world that is unique and engaging. The characters are well developed and the plot was wonderfully executed. There are multiple layers and a world full of possibilities. I loved the world and the factions reminded so much of Divergent. I am looking forward to book 2. Highly recommend.

Dystopian novels are my favorite. I feel like there are not enough of the genre out there, but let me tell you, this is a great one. The author knows how to create amazing characters, a world that you can easily place yourself into, and a plot that flows seamlessly. I started this novel absolutely despising Juliana, but by the end I wanted to be her best friend. She starts out stuck up (as you would expect from a high caste) and she is put in her place by becoming a white star. I truly feel that she realizes by the end that she is supposed to be a moon.

The only bad thing I have to say about this novel is that it can be a little dense in parts, but that is because the author is creating this amazing world with explicit detail that cannot be missed. In my eyes, that does not deserve one less star; I cannot fault an author for detail. I also love that the storylines fall together by the end of this book. May is one of my favorite characters because she is an old lady that wants to help everyone she can. She ends up saving Anthony’s life, but I will not go into detail about that. You will just have to read and find out for yourself. I cannot wait to dive into the next in this series because I just cannot get enough!

Hope and Lies: The Abredea Series Book One by C.H. Lyn – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Hope and LiesHope and Lies by C.H. Lyn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Pangaea is a world which has suffered great loss and great changes, ever since a plague ripped through its citizens, nothing has been the same and the aftermath was only able to be handled by those who survived after the changes. These individuals became known as the Grey Stars and they restored order amid the chaos, but it came with a price, a caste system which separated the have’s from the have not’s, but the price was not paid by them, it was paid by those they deemed to be less, those that were put into the lower classes.

At one point long after this process was perfected, there were some who discovered abilities which were not of the norm and they decided to fight against the Grey Stars and the caste system and so a rebellion was created, but in order to win, they knew that they had to break a few rules to attain their goal and this is where they decide to kidnap a Grey Star and find out exactly how they manage to keep the masses in line. The person they kidnap however unbeknownst to them, they are about to discover that they are more than they seem, it turns out that they are an alter, someone with unusual powers, but although they try and keep this ability a secret, they are distraught to find out what their fellow Grey Stars have been doing and so they turn traitor and agree to help the rebellion.

Many years after this rebellion, a young woman is turning the age of majority that means she is now an adult, this also means that she has to go through the Coding, a process which will determine which caste she will belong to for the rest of her life, she has high expectations, as do those around her, but what happens is the last thing she expects and she is thrust out of the life she knows and into one in the lowest caste of their society and she is devastated when it happens and she has to leave her life behind and enter a camp. A young man meanwhile, is fighting for his survival, he has been hidden from the world because of his unusual ability and the myriad of emotions surrounding him and although he has his brother who is helping him with it, his life is still fraught with danger and a fear of the unknown, so when things develop and his brother tells him that he expects him to continue to look after those living with them and become the leader they need, he is not so sure that it is a good idea.

What really happened during the rebellion, what injustices were they fighting to correct and what happened to them in the intervening years between the uprising and the present day? Will the young woman be able to accept and grow into her new life in the camp filled with the lower caste people she has been thrown in with and can she live without the luxurious life she was used to? Can the young man embrace his powers and the leadership role his brother wants him to fulfil, or will events conspire against him and the life he wishes he could have? This is an epic adventure spanning time and place where nothing is as it seems and life is as unpredictable as can be, where secrets and lies reign and people will do anything to keep it that way in this book you will not want to put down.

This is the first book in the Abredea series and what a great start it is. This is a dystopian story about the world turn apart by a plague to be pieced back together by the Grey Stars and their corrupt Caste system. This book will take you on an adventure full of twists and turns. It was an interesting read and the author does an amazing job of allowing the reader complete access to the people in the stories. From the people in high places and government( causing corruption) to the people places in the lower caste systems. This story is written on different timelines 1 in the past and 2 in the present. At first this I found this a bit hard to follow but the more I read and learnt the characters and their place in the system the easier it became and the more excited I was to learn where the past and present join.

This full of emotions, from the lies and corruption, to the lower classes struggling to build themselves up and living life as a constant battle.
I really felt sorry for Juliana. Her parents were Blue Star( quite high ranking) but when she goes for her Coding they tell her she is a White Star( a lowest class) so not only does she have to go through the shock and upset of this change of life, she also needs to find the strength and learn to live in a completely different way than the way she was raised. When reading this story you can feel her confusion, pain, but also strength and determination as she struggles through.

Overall this was a great read, with lies unravelling, past meeting the present and people not entirely happy with the Caste system planning a revolt there is something for everyone. The author does an amazing job with these characters that you can’t help but be invested in their lives and their battles.
I can’t wait to see how this series continues.

Hope and Lies is the first book in the Abredea series by C.H. Lyn. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and after reading this I am so glad to have stumbled on her book because she brings something a little different to the table. This gave me some ‘Hunger Games’ vibes- but with its own unique ‘identity’ and feel.
It is a dystopian fantasy with superb world building, a caste system, abilities, a post-apocalyptic setting, rebellion, a battle for equality and justice, secrets, revenge, agendas, action, adventure, drama, danger, self-discovery, family, friendship, politics, corruption, grief, loss, heartache, betrayal, emotion, and hope.
The story is told from several points of view, which gave the story greater depth and interest for me- the pov’s give us a much broader perspective so we can fully appreciate what is going on. It’s a complex and multi-layered story that weaves multiple threads and timelines into one engrossing read.
Looking forward to continuing this series, as well as exploring more of this talented authors work in the near future.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, C.H. Lyn!

A dystopian world full of strife. Pangaea maintains its “order” through an outdated caste system, which has led may to rebel. This intricate story moves between the past and the current times, simultaneously telling us multiple stories. One of a woman from the highest ranking caste who’s whole life is changed when she is caught by rebels, another of a young 20 year old girl who for some reason ends up in a different caste from her friends and family, and finally an empath named Chogan. This mesmerizingly woven tapestry is an absolute must read. I’ve told all my friends to read it and I’m telling you as well. It is a chunky book, but it is absolutely worth every moment!

What can I say except if you like your books dystopian in nature but with added paranormal tendencies, and you like to disappear into a story then this is certainly the book for you. <br /><br />This is the first book I have delved into by this author, and I can tell you it will not be the last, I am defiantly going to hunt down book 2 as I need to know what happens. <br /><br />In this book we follow a few distinct groups of people, some are in the past, which I found a little tricky to follow to begin with, some with special powers, some with and some without gemstones. <br /><br />Country is brought back together after a plague, and managed in a strict caste system, each has its own place in society, and from here we follow Maybelle and Kate, Juliana who meets Anthony, and Cho, Ichi, and the children. Each group has a profound impact on the story, and each interacts with the other. Towards the end it becomes clear as to how they interlink. <br /><br />I found this book all encompassing, certainly one hard to put down. The world building paints a very vivid picture, and the character development is smooth and interesting.

This book could occupy me for a long dang time. Where past and present flip back and forth but not in a confusing way. I really enjoyed the interesting style of the author and how well thought out her characters were. Getting to follow the different storylines was so exciting and I honestly just felt like the book gave more bang for its buck. I have never read from this author before and while the dystopian-esque style isn’t my first grab I’m learning it definitely can be. Told from multiple points of view the past and present mix to make an incredible picture of this dystopian world. I enjoyed the complexities of the story and the way the author presented the information about it to the readers. The story flowed in such a way that you get pieces of the larger puzzle slowly and keeps you intrigued throughout. I found that I didn’t immediately love each of the characters, for various reasons, but came to understand their circumstances. The idea of a caste system and fantastical elements of powers gave more to the story than I’d originally hoped and definitely held my attention and kept me engaged in the story.

This is a new series and a new author to me. The author does a wonderful job of world building this dystopian novel that pulls you into the world of Pangaea. Living in a caste society to keep everyone in peace and order. The story takes place in two different eras, one from 70 years ago and now, helping us understand how the characters feel, what they are trying to change and so much more. The story line is woven in such a way to keep us reading and wanting to know more. The fact that we see these characters grow and strengthen within the book helped keep my attention too.

Hope and Lies is the first book in the Abredea series. C.H. Lyn carefully intertwines three compelling storylines in this dystopian fantasy. It is told through multiple POV’s and different timelines.
With destruction, secret rebellions, politics, caste systems, kidnappings, supernatural powers, traitors, sacrifices, domination and control and family there is something for all lovers of dystopian tales.
There is desperation, grief, pain, hope, love and wonder. I was so immersed in the story that the pages just flew by.
A cleverly crafted tale where the worldbuilding is spot on, a well-written storyline and has three wonderfully intriguing plots. The diverse cast of characters are well written and interesting, and you become invested in them.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series. Dystopian fans will love it.

I found this story to be amazing. The writing is such that I dove in. My family wondered if I was ever going to put my phone down. I love dystopian fiction and have since Hunger Games came out. The characters are all so beautifully written. They all have such unique personalities and just mesh so nicely into the story. The length of the book just didn’t matter to me. I devoured it in no time at all. I found it just sneaks a hand right out at the beginning and grabs you right in from the start.
