The Curse of a Faeblood by MK Lorber – Review by Beverly Finnie

The Curse of a FaebloodThe Curse of a Faeblood by M.K. Lorber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When I first started reading The Curse of a Faeblood, I wasn’t too sure where it was going. What the author was doing. It took me a few chapters to grasp the story being told. And boy was it a good one. The author definitely sucked me in, I didn’t want to take a break to sleep or go to work.. lol The character development across the two main characters plus some of the supporting characters was interesting to see unfold.
Ember, a faeblood, is on the run. Needing to get to the Northern Isles, based on everything her mother told her. Gets caught in a village one day trying to steal a piece of bread. Well she never left despite saying only one night. Jade was so kind taking her in. Allowing her to work off the transgression, but also providing her with food, clothing, shelter, and family. Even amongst all that she knows she’s a danger to her new friends. She knows she needs to move on, but that’s easier said than done. Plus she’s drawn to the one who caught her in the first place.
Gavyn, one of the respected leaders in his village. Trains those to fight and stand their own. Contributing to a village that is trying to stay out of the eye of the Red Guard and in turn the Lords of the High Table. At the same time keeping them prepared to ever have to go up against them. Ember stumbles into his life and turns it on its axis. He doesn’t trust her, because she’s a thief. But he can’t look away or get her off his mind. He’s drawn to her like a moth to a light. And despite how cruel his words are towards her he can’t keep her away.
Will Ember & Gavyn explore the tension between them?
Is Ember’s presence really a threat to the village and the people she’s growing to love?
Then there’s the matter of Erik, essentially a trader amongst the mix, or is he? His father is a Lord of the High Table(the Lords all have Faeblood.) intentionally sent to the compound to report back, Erik is on the fence about his responsibilities. He’s not like his father, but he’s spying and reporting back at the same time.
Do Gayvn and Xavier learn about the trader in their midst?
What are they going to do, when tensions rise with the High Table?
Despite my early confusion I will proudly say I haven’t come across a bad book revolving around Fae yet! Though I’m always hesitant when I’m considering reading one. Don’t be me! Don’t hesitate! Just do it! It’ll be worth it!

The Curse of a Faeblood tells the story of Ember, who just lost her mother and then gets caught stealing a loaf of bread. This book was a fun ride with excellent world-building and character development. I’m not usually a fan of high fantasy but this was definitely a solid read. It had adventure, heartache, and spice. What else can you ask for? Although a bit on the long side this is a world worth falling into with characters who you’ll love and a romance that is simply *chef’s kiss*.

Thus is a truly interesting story. It has a little bit of everything to capture your attention and the author has created a well written and exciting story. The characters seem to take on a life of their own. They fit so well with the style of the story and everything just seems to work. This feels like it is going to be an interesting world that is being created and I am looking forward to seeing how it all develops in the books to come.

This is a great paranormal romance. It has everything packed into one. There is magic, romance, action, suspense, and thriller. You will be able to relate with the main characters and it’s so much fun to watch them evolve through the book.

I have fallen in love with everything Fae. The fantasy world of the Fae has become quite popular and amazing stories like this one are on the rise. I enjoyed the way the world was introduced and the amazing characters within it. The story pulled you in slowly and kept my full attention until the end. Fantasy, romance, action, and steam all within this magical realm with its delightful cast of characters. Ember and Gravyn our MC had a connection and chemistry that truly drove the story. There were unseen twists and turns but it only enhanced the storyline. This was my first read by this author and I cannot wait to pick up another book of theirs again.

I get so excited when I find new fantasy series involving fae and magical characters. I am especially excited because I am hoping this is a series that will last a few books. This was my first book by this author and I thought the writing style was descriptive and enchanting, drawing me in and making it difficult for me to put down. I loved the chemistry between the main characters, and I felt invested in the female main character’s journey. I appreciated her strength and tenacity, and I love an awesome female lead. I also found myself enjoying the supporting characters and hope that there is more on them in further books. I am excited for the next book to be released! I definitely recommend this one.

Ember has been on the run her whole life, or well at least since her mother’s death. But, as she goes from place to place she looks for people with gifts like her. She finds herself in some trouble and that’s when she meets Gavyn and they fall in love. Lots of excitement! Love this book.

The Curse of a Faeblood (The Faeblood Series #1) by MK Lorber

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. The Curse of a Faeblood is an amazing read. It’s the first book in The Faeblood Series. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Gavyn is a fighter and has had a rough childhood. When a thief is caught he can’t help but want her to be taken in. The quote I chose for Gavyn is: “Jade, you can’t keep feeding every person who wanders to your cart. You know the rules. No more drifters. This one will rob you blind like the rest.”

Ember is part faeblood and has the powers. Only problem is she can’t be caught. When she decides to stick around things become problematic. The quote I chose for Ember is: “Okay. I can stay for one more night. To help you out.”

Highly recommended for Fae Romance lovers.

Ember and Gavyn have such incredible chemistry. Ember has to deal with a horrible tragedy and is hoping for a fresh start. When fate brings her and Gavyn together, they start out trying to keep their distance from each other but the attraction is undeniable. They have so many obstacles standing in their way that they have to overcome. I really enjoyed the magic aspect and the progression of enemies to falling in love. I was cheering for Ember and Gavyn the whole time and I am so excited to read the next books to come in this series. If you enjoy magic, romance and action this is one book you won’t want to miss!

I have found a new author. MK is relatively new as an author this being her second book but her first fantasy book. She also has a short story shared with a compilation of authors. I very much liked her writing style. Paranormal/fantasy is one of my fav genres. The world MK has created for this series is exciting and beautifully done and a variable delight for the imagination.

There is a cast of thousands and there is a lot going on but the intrigue and action pull you in. The characters were well-developed and interesting and I enjoyed the banter, sarcasm and sassiness, it made the story fun. I look forward to seeing how MK brings other character stories to life. This story has some steam and romance, heroes and adventures, fae and humans, magic and elite fighters, thieves and action, lies and betrayal.

This story started out a bit slow and at times seemed to drag but overall, I did enjoy this tale and look forward to the other books.

They fell and they fell hard. Him an alpha elite human fighter and her a magical fae thief.

Starting off with the FMC having just lost her mom, we follow her to a new town where she is caught stealing. She finds a new family in this town as well as a warrior as delicious as they come. Naturally they push against each other (enemies to lovers) and while doing this they balance families, fights, and fighting attraction. Great first book in a new series!

I have personally never read anything by this author but this fantastic romantic/fantasy was a great place to start. The character development was fantastic and the story was so great that I couldn’t put it down. But in truth this story had so much to offer from romance, to action, to fantasy, and of course magic. But what really drew me to this book was the beautiful front cover and the synopsis. However neither of them could have prepared me for how amazing this story really is. So if your looking for a great new book, then make sure you pick this one up today.

This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I was very impressed and can’t wait to read more. The characters are wonderfully complex, each having their own issues. There’s plenty of action and adventure in this magical story. I’ve always loved stories about faries, magic, anything of the sort. This went a different direction than most and I was pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend reading The Curse of a Faeblood!

I love books that suck me in to the magical and mystical world of Faeries. This is full of action, magic and romance. Ember just wants to fit in but has always been told to hide her gifts but when her mother dies she must go out alone, when she is captured by a beautiful angry warrior Gavyn. Can they overcome both their fears and fight together?

The Curse of a FaebloodThe Curse of a Faeblood by M.K. Lorber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ember is a young woman who is on the run, she is in danger because of who and what she is, she is a Faeblood and that is to some a gift and to some a curse, so she has lived all her life moving from place to place with her mother until the unthinkable happens and she has to continue her perilous journey on her own. As she drifts from place to place, all Ember has ever wanted is to have a place in a community, friends and family around her and somewhere she can call home, but she knows that it will never happen because of her heritage and the risks she has to take on the roads are not something a young woman should be doing alone, never mind one who has yet to grieve the only family she has ever known.

Gavyn is a young man in the peak of his life, he is the head trainer of the local elite fighting school where he trains young men and women in the art of fighting and discipline, as part of the annual tithe paid to the nobility who own the land they live on, he is a well honed machine and uses the skills he has learned over his life so far to instil these values in those around him. He is a part of a brotherhood, a family who he will defend above all others and this protective instinct has enabled him to rise through the ranks and become the leaders right hand man, it also means that he knows everything which happens in the village he lives in.

One day Ember attempts to steal something to eat from the cart of a vendor in a small village, however, she has caught Gavyn’s watchful eye and is caught, but the offer to pay off her debt is hard to resist, but she knows that she has to hide her true nature from those around her, no matter how much she wishes to become part of the community she has dropped into. Meanwhile, the nobles who live in the Castle at the heart of the Kingdom of Morvak are as far from the peasants they exact the tithe from as can be, they debate over who has the most pure Faeblood, but even they have their own hierarchy and it is on this foundation that they have built their lives, but all that changes when someone with Faeblood is found outside of the Castle walls.

As the days pass and Ember and Gavyn cannot deny that the more time they spend in each others presence, the more that an attraction is building, but neither of them can let down their walls because of the fears they have for those around them, but when it comes to saving those they love, will they be able to stay apart and keep their passion under wraps, or will it bring danger closer than ever? This is a story full of family, both lost and found, secrets, truths and magic, as tangled webs of emotions and reality are weaved around a village where respect and honesty are valued, lies and deceit are frowned upon and a tenuous balance is maintained, where you become sucked into a world which pulls you along until you know what happens in the end.

I enjoyed this fantasy story. This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed their writing style as well as their attention to details that made the story come to life. I enjoyed how I was pulled into the story from the beginning. This is a fast paced, engaging story about Gavyn and Ember and their adventure of finding family and a passion that could break hearts. They are great characters that made the story for me. I enjoyed how the characters are connectable and kept me turning pages. They had great growth throughout which made the story easy to read. There is alot going on in this story but I enjoyed how the author kept me coming back for more. This is a great well written story that I highly recommend.

This was a wonderful fantasy story. A romance with Ember and Gavyn that went from enemies to lovers. Ember’s just trying to survive and ends up getting caught by Gavyn. He has her help his sister. There is plenty of action, intrigue, magic and more within the story. The secondary characters are plenty. Ember is a survivor. Basically starving, she can still kick guard butt. Her mom is murdered so she wants to find out who did it and needs help. Because she is caught, it takes the longer way to get there. I found the plot had a few choppy spots but overall it was easy to follow and very engaging. The characters were well-developed. It felt like a fantasy world. You could feel the magic around you. The descriptions were vivid enough that it was easy to visualize the story as you went along. A fun story for fantasy lovers.
