Its the story of Radhika Varma who lives with her brother and Aunt. She goes to school, has friends and has a wild imagination. Radhika doesn’t realize she has special powers so when she dreams of a certain man and he seems to be telling her something she is scared at first but then realizes she needs to listen to him. Realizing she has been picked to compete in Prestoria in the real of nightmares she knows she has to use that imagination to save her life! Will Radhika be able to win this challenge and get home safe and sound before morning or will she be in more trouble than she ever imagined. This will be such a fun read for kids.

The Dream Catchers is a fast paced fantasy book, through Indian folklore . Set in the land of dreams, the heroine Radhika Varma is picked to compete in a challenge in Prestoria, the realm of nightmares. She has to rely on her overactive imagination to save herself. She has to create her own defenses and fight against the demons, and travel to a mystical gateway before dawn to win the challenge. Similar to Jumanji, if she fails to do so, she is locked in her dreams.
But then there are more challenges than what meets the eye. She is accused of assaulting one of the other dream catchers. Will she clear her name and emerge victorious from the challenge forms the crux of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, it reminded me of Jumanji time and again. A very good fantasy around Indian myths, I loved every bit of it.

This book had me on edge throughout the entirety. I loved it and I want another one. I loved the concept of the dream catchers and their Journey and the trials each one went through to test the strength and willpower as well as their own demons. It’s always crazy to see what feeds our inner beast and what compassion can do for others. This story has Radhika coming out of her shell after the death of her parents and finding friends and enemies in unlikely places. Who can she trust? Read on and find out!

Wow, this book is quite the surprise and in a good way. Radhika has this imagination that is just mesmerizing and she starts having these dreams. Nothing like having a dream that involves seeing an old man but no one else can see him as she starts to see him in real life in town. Radhika has to complete these “Challenges” in Prestoria and hopefully she overcomes or she will remain in Prestoria forever. This book has so much adventure, imagination, fun and mystery. The book was definitely an adventure for the characters and myself! The author does great in creating tangible and authentic relationships between the characters in this story! I enjoyed seeing some of the Indian Mythology, but I was hoping for more as there was a large variety of Catchers. The concept of the challenges within the dream world of Prestoria was intriguing, however I really struggled to see the tasks the characters were to beat clearly. It did get a little more defined in the latter half of the book, but I struggled to keep up with what exactly was going on. Even so, I would recommend this book for reading as the characters are very relatable, the plotline is consistent, and imagination runs wild.

The Dream Catchers: Prestoria series is a children’s fantasy recommended for ages 8-12, but I can assure you that all ages will enjoy it. The first installment in the series by J.U. Menon is so engrossing, that before I knew it, I was finished. Not only is this book engaging and filled with vibrant imagery, but it is so intriguing that I’m sure it could hold the attention of the most distracted child (or adult). Filled with Indian myths and folklore, the author truly takes the reader on an adventure to a dream world that will challenge the boundaries of your imagination. Our main character, Radhika, is a wonderful protagonist for young readers, and she comes across many relatable circumstances. I highly recommend this book. This will definitely be one I read to my daughter when she gets old enough to enjoy it! Can’t wait to read the second book!

This is the fist book I have from this author and I’m now a fan. I love a good fantasy book but this author exceeded all my expectations. This is the first book of the Prestoria series and it was the perfect way to start a series. I could not stop reading this book until the very end and I can’t see what happens next to these amazing characters.

Radhika Varma has an amazing imagination. She always thinks of different creatures. Radhika is excited when she finds out that she will be in a challenge in a land called Prestoria. This is the land of nightmares and she is a little nervous. Radhika is only armed with her imagination by one of the Dream Catchers. She has no idea what has getting into when she meets some of these creatures like the Vyalas. Radhika has only until dawn to complete her challenge or she will end up not coming out. Will Radhika got out with a victory or will she become a new member of Prestoria?

The Dream Catchers: PRESTORIA Series Book 1The Dream Catchers: PRESTORIA Series Book 1 by J.U. Menon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Dream Catchers is the first book in J. U. Menon’s Prestoria series. This children’s series is set partially in the real world and partially in the world of dreams, and draws on the Indian folklore that influences the protagonist’s imagination, and therefore the dreams she experiences.
I would have loved this book as a kid, when I tried to plan to have adventures with friends when we were both dreaming. It’s such a cool premise, and Menon develops it brilliantly with the Challenge and the mysteries that surround it. Such a captivating world!
Radhika is a great protagonist. She’s very compassionate and concerned for others, making her a good role model. The challenges she faces in her real life, including grief and moving to a new area and school, are as much a part of the story as the fantastical challenges she faces in Prestoria. I particularly like how her relationships with family are explored, such as her younger brother Aarav who is dealing with his grief in a very different way to his sister.
This book would be great for KS2-3 readers who are confident with longer chapter books. If a child gets anxious about sleeping or dreams, or are experiencing grief, it would be worth an adult reading it before or with them and using it as a discussion prompt.
This book gets a full five stars from me! A superb read!

This is the first book in the Prestoria series. It is a very enjoyable young adult story filled with danger and adventure. It’s a magical story with links to Indian myths legends and folklore. One of the things I loved about the story was the feeling of is our lead character dreaming or is everything she experiences real?

When our lead character Radhika finds herself in Pestoria she needs to find a way to get out alive. But with other hunters the same and only her imagination for help can she return before morning or will she have to live in Prestoria forever?

This was a fun book to read, I would say it would be more of read towards older kids, but it is a fun adventure of twists and turns I did not expect here and there as well as deep mysteries that in which were truly more than meets the eye!

The story is a adventure around two children. The girl whom has the name of Radhika is a special young girl, but she doesn’t know just how extraordinary she is…she is a book worm so enjoys books and has a good and very wonderful imagination. She has dreams of things that were, as well as people who were. One day a mysterious appearance sets off a course of things to happen as the main question was who could this person be? What do they want? Would her dreams tell her?

More things happen and she realizes she was to be selected for something. She meets with the mysterious stranger from her dreams. And more people actually appear to visit her. She is then told she is selected based on what she can do with her imagination. Among the others, they feel not truly convinced she is up to be what they expect or need from her. More less, could she prove herself to be worthy? When she comes to the realization that she must prove herself to be what is needed there was more mysteries and truth to unfold.

As the story goes on there is more trials and test she must not only use her mind, but also her wit and strength of her heart to get her through the toughest of the times she was to come face to face with. As the story went on that’s where the mastery really began to unfold. Time was not on her side, and to learn the truth came with costs? How far would you go to unravel the mystery of Prestoria?

I really enjoyed the mysteries of the novel and the authors ability to really describe what creatures to land of Prestoria. I had a wonderful adventure and I will for sure be reading what happens next in the series! Thank you for the author for the wonderful novel, and giving a treat for my imaginative mind!

Radhika Varma is a reader with an overactive imagination. Lately she has been having weird dreams that include an older man she has never met. And to make matters worse, she starts seeing him around town. When she mentions this to her best friend, Radhika is shocked that she is the only one who sees him.

One night she wakes up in a room with 10 other young people who have been tasked to be a part of the Dream Catcher Challenge. This is four nights of overcoming mental, physical, and emotional challenges. During the course of the challenge, Radhika must learn to dwell on her strengths and not her weaknesses. Luckily she makes a few friends along the way who make the journey easier.

Unfortunately there’s always at least one bad apple. One of the other Dream Catchers starts spreading rumors about how she’s leaving everyone behind. Can Radhika complete her challenges before the midnight deadline? Will overcome the adversary that is revealed?

The Dream Catchers is a cute story which involves a person’s imagination and a dreamland called Prestoria. Ridhika has lost her parents within the last year. Overcoming a fear of losing her brother is one of her biggest challenges. In this story you will enjoy the real life challenges and the challenges presented by mythical creatures that Radhika has to overcome.

Wow! This was a great book! Someone needs to make it into a movie (and not change anything!). I really enjoyed this storyline and the weaving of Indian lore into it. The story touches on sibling disagreements, dealing with the loss of loved ones, the effect of dementia/Alzheimer’s on a family, making new friends, and dealing with fears. I also enjoy the touch of dealing with a bully and how you can’t always believe what others say, no matter how convincing they are. I also like the compassion that Radhika shows toward others and never lets the dream world change who she is. It was a great read and full of suspense and twists and turns everywhere.

The Dream Catchers (Prestoria) by J. U. Menon is a fantasy young adult book.

J. U. Menon’s The Dream Catchers is a fast-paced high fantasy journey through Indian myths and folklore set in the mysterious land of dreams. A remarkable story of bravery and self-discovery. Everyone claims that RADHIKA VARMA has an overactive imagination. But when she is picked to compete in a Challenge in Prestoria – the realm of nightmares – she will have to rely on every ounce of her crazy imagination to save her life. Radhika must construct her own armament against strong ancient creatures like the Vyalas and Rakshasas, and travel to the mystical gateway before dawn as one of eleven Dream Catchers equipped only with her mind.

If she fails to accomplish so, she will be compelled to remain in Prestoria for the rest of her life. Radhika learns there is more going on than meets the eye when she is accused of assaulting the other Dream Catchers. Will Radhika be able to clear her name, finish the Challenge, and return home before dawn, or will hunger for revenge force Prestoria to take her as its own?

I loved this story and the concept of it as well. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting.

This fascinating and exciting story gets a 5 out of 5 and is geared toward pre-teens and above due to some of its darker scary moments. The main character, Radhika Varma is in high school and has suffered the loss of both her parents and now lives in a different town and now goes to a different school. Her world has changed a lot in the last year. She has one good friend but spends a good amount of time in the local library where her imagination can run wild. The constants in her life she leans heavily on are the comfort of the library as well as the support and security of her younger brother, and her Auntie who now cares for them both. The story starts with Radhika noticing something in her dreams. How can someone she has never met be in her dreams and then she sees him around town and about school when she is awake? The story becomes even stranger when she falls asleep at night. When she sleeps, the real adventure begins to take place. This story was filled with mystery, challenges, friendships gained, enemies found, darkness, fear, and adventure. An excellent start to a series I hope will continue. Can’t wait to read what happens next!

Many Thanks to Ms. Menon for this exciting story! I am off to go share it with my daughter!

There was never a dull moment in this story! We start with Radhika and a bit of her backstory. We meet her aunt, grandmother, and brother and discover how everything starts to tie together. I have been reading books lately that are slightly out of my small comfort zone, and I have been astounded at the amazing writing I have encountered so far. This book did not fail me on that aspect. The characters were wonderfully written, the deception and taunting made everything that much more intriguing, and not being able to tell whether they were in a dream or real life was wildly entertaining. I love the myths and folklore that took up storylines in this book and was pleasantly surprised at my ability to solve a riddle as quickly as I did! I am thankful this is a series because JU Menon has done such a beautiful job that I cannot wait to read the next installment!

Radhika Varma is a young girl who lives with her brother and aunt, she has a normal life, she goes to school, has a best friend, she spends a lot of time at the library, or reading in her room and she has a vivid imagination, but in her dreams she sees lost family and the other usual things, but one day she sees someone in her dreams whom she has never seen before, the first time, she thinks nothing of it, however, as he appears more often and even when she is awake, she starts to get worried. One night, she is dreaming as usual when she suddenly becomes surrounded by darkness, apart from a spotlight in which the man in her dreams is sat in an armchair, when she asks what is going on, he just pours some tea and asks her to wait for others to join them and eventually ten others appear and this is when he starts to explain everything.

As Radhika listens to the old man, she is finding what he is telling the group highly unbelievable, apparently, he has been observing them and because of their imaginations, he has picked them and brought them to the land of dreams and nightmares, also known as Prestoria to take part in a Challenge which takes place every fifty years, this challenge involves them using their imagination to travel to a portal while overcoming the obstacles set before them. He says that they are now the Dream Catchers and that they will have until dawn each day to complete the Challenge, if they don’t get to the portal in time, they will be forever trapped in Prestoria and will lose their lives in the real world, but this night, they will be taught the basic skills needed to compete and to have a practice before the real tasks begin.

As she starts talking to some of the others in the group and tries to practice the skills, she is realising that she may not be as good as she is hoping to be, but she is determined to persevere throughout the Challenge, however, as it progresses and she tries to help others in the group to win in the duels against mythical creatures and scenarios which test every aspect of their person, one Catcher in particular is determined to believe that she is not as wholesome as she appears and starts to set things up to prove this to the other Catchers, Radhika is suspicious, but only talks to a select couple of the other Catchers about it, they are the ones who don’t believe the accusations and know the truth. Will Radhika be able to complete the Challenge and prove to everyone that she isn’t the kind of person she is being made out to be, or will the accusations and ill wishes against her come to fruition and leave her in Prestoria forever? This is a thrilling race against time in a fantasy world, which will keep you on the edge of your seat and although it is a YA book, adults will enjoy it as well as you read along and share the experiences of the Dream Catchers.

It sounded exciting and the author really delivered on that. There was a lot going on in the book but it never felt overdone or too much. The author got the balance right when it came to keeping your interest but also holding back where needed. This story is appealing to more than just the YA audience. It draws on myth and folklore which I think made to more realistic. This really is a great book and I am looking forward to book 2.
