YA Fantasy is not my usual pic, however I am glad I took a chance on this book. I love reading about villains and this book does not disappoint. Along with the self discovery of the main character. I recommend this book. It will be worth it.

Sweet Nightmares is the first book in The Dream World Chronicles by Chynna Pace. Alex Rokosz, who is fifteen years old, has always yearned for a family. Life takes a strange turn for Alex when her mother dies and she and her sister, whom she has never met move in with their paternal grandmother. Amidst new connections, She soon discovers that what it seems is not what it is and Nightmares are real. She is introduced to prophecies and destinies all of a sudden and the truth about herself is thrust on her from nowhere.
This is a good Young Adult fantasy filled with action and adventures. The pace is not uniform and at times the plot slows down a bit and it becomes a little difficult to follow the plot, but overall, this is a good read.

Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles #1)Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The only reason I am giving this book a 4 star is because it took my over half the book to get into the story, but once it got more serious and adventurous, I got more into the book and now can’t wait what happens next. Alex and Zo are two sisters who just lost their mom, and their dad left them only a couple weeks after Zo was born. Instead of going to an orphanage, they ended up going to their Grandmother’s house in New Britain, who they have never met before. It gets weirder meeting Kacper who is their Grandmother’s business partner. Once Alex starts snooping around for answers, she’s taken on a new journey that ties a lot of things up in the past for her, what’s happening to her in the present, and what’s to come in the future. Chynna Pace gives a lot of details and descriptions which I think is really good for this book. This is one of those that once you give yourself time to past through the slow part, it’s worth the ending.

Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles Book 1) by Chynna Pace was a very interesting first read for me by this author. While I was drawn to the book by its beautiful front cover and its synopsis, I was even more intrigued once I dove into the actual story. This YA fantasy has so much to offer including paranormal elements, magic, danger, destiny, and so much more that you will soon find yourself lost in the pages. Ms. Pace gives us so much in this story that I personally can’t wait to see what happens in book two.

This book is a good read. At first, it was a little slow for me, but as soon as the story started coming together and the pieces started to fall into place, I was intrigued. When Alex and Zoey’s mother passes unexpectedly, they both end up having to go live with their grandmother, Matilda. When they arrive they also meet Kacper, whom Matilda took under her wing when his parents passed in an accident. Matilda and Kacper are secretive. Alex notices different people coming to visit Matilda to read into their dreams. At night, Matilda and Kacper leave their house and one night Alex follows them. You learn they help others to take away nightmares and give people sweet dreams instead. There are twists and turns along the story and you find out more as you read on (I dont like giving anything away). The story has paranormal, magical feel. Overall I am curious what will happen next and intrigued for sure! Looking forward to continuing to read the next book! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I enjoyed this story by Chynna Pace quite a lot! It’s my first by her and I’m eager to read more. The nightmare creatures in this book and the mythology (is that the right term?) around them was fascinating to me! Ive always been a fan of supernatural/paranormal stories and this one really hit the mark. It took me a little bit to get into the characters but I’m excited for the rest of the series! Onto the next! 💖

Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles #1)Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sweet Nightmares is the first book in Chynna Pace’s exciting Dream World Chronicles series. It is a fantasy series aimed at teen readers which focuses on the magic of dreams and nightmares, as well as addressing issues such as bullying and bereavement.

I particularly like the extent to which Pace draws on Polish culture and folklore in this story (especially the food! I could practically taste Mathilda’s amazing cooking). It grounded the story in the real world and drew the sisters’ feelings of disconnect from their heritage into the turmoil they were experiencing.

The sisters, Alex and Zoey, are great! Many young readers will find them relatable, with Alex’s love of retreating into books and Zoey’s creativity in painting. It’s great that they are so close, in spite of an age gap and big differences in personality.

Sweet Nightmares really captured my imagination, and I’m excited to read more of the series! It gets five stars from me. I would recommend this to fantasy-lovers who are interested in the meanings of dreams.

Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles #1)Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Alex Rokosz is a fifteen year old girl who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina where she lives with her sister and her mother, that is until a tragic accident took the life of their mother and started a series of events, culminating in leaving everything behind to go and live with their grandmother, Matilda in straight after the funeral. All Alex ever wanted was a loving family, but that is the one thing she has never had, but she hopes that this grandmother whom she has never met or heard of is going to be just that, however, when she pulls up in a hearse and is short in stature and shorter in temper, Alex believes that her hopes are dashed, even her sister is unusually quiet, even for her, so it is a long and lonely car ride to their new home while her thoughts about her current situation and what she might find out from this new relative about her father and his side of the family.

When they pull up to the house, it is pitch black and freezing cold, so the light and warmth are inviting and Alex runs inside to see their new home, however, the tour is short and sharp as they are shown to their rooms, but before she can settle in for the night, she checks on her sister as she tries to keep her routine as close to normal as possible. The next morning, as Alex is getting ready to start her day in the bathroom with bleary eyes and a headache, suddenly there is a knocking on the door, but when it isn’t her sister, she panics, grabs her sister from her room and flies down the stairs shouting for her grandma because there is a young man upstairs and Alex thinks that he is breaking in. When her grandma announces that it is just Kacper, her seventeen year old housemate, Alex is shocked and when she asks why Matilda didn’t tell her, she just shrugs and says she would find out anyway, so she didn’t think it was important.

When her sister asks to go into the local town, Kacper agrees to take them, this is where they go into a couple of the stores and meet some townspeople, some are nice and others not so much, but when she tries to talk to anyone about them, she is shot down and discouraged from seeing them again. As the time passes and Alex finds everything about her new place odd, but as the events of the last few days turn over in her head and she starts to think that what she feels are normal for her family, are not necessarily normal for others, this is compounded when she follows Matilda and Kacper when they go out at night as she is intrigued by what they are doing, but when she sees them fighting a nightmare, she immediately wants to know more. Will Alex be able to make sense of the new world of magic, dreams and nightmares and her place in it, or will it all be too much and sweep her away on a course she doesn’t want? This is a fantasy adventure where nothing is as it seems and dreams and reality intermix to pull you into their world until you are so engrossed that you have to read until the end.

Action packed and intrigue that draws you in from page 1. Alex is a kick-ass teen who learns that she and her sister, Zoey, have some new powers that help with beating nightmares. Their mom has died and they move in with their grandmother. She is their father’s mother. He disappeared when they were young so they learn so many secrets and what happened. The plot just keeps you involved. You can’t put the book down because you just might miss something. Definitely a great book for the YA paranormal/fantasy fans. (Adults will like it too). Highly recommend.

The first thing that caught my eye was the cover. It’s gorgeous! After reading the blurb, I was intrigued. I had never read a book by this author so I decided to give her a chance. I’m so happy I did. The story was different than the usual vampire/ werewolf. It is a YA fantasy novel that incorporates polish folklore. I love when authors can use lesser known evils in their stories. I feel like I’m reading something new. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good vampire story but it’s a little overdone. This story was refreshing and original.

The characters are unique, some you love right away and others grow on you. For me, the villain was quite obvious but the author added a twist to it which I didn’t suspect. I found at times the author was a little too descriptive. For example, she didn’t need to describe every item in the paint store. There were a few paragraphs that I skimmed over. All in all, it didn’t take away too much from the story itself, which I enjoyed. Everything is tied up nicely at the end but still left open so the author can take us on more adventures. I’m looking forward to seeing where this series takes us.

Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace is the first book in the Dream World Chronicles. This is a well developed and great YA fantasy story that keeps the pages turning. I liked how the author has tried to put a twist on this usual topic to create something new and exciting. At times I think the story needed to be pushed a little more however the whole idea is great and made for an interesting read. The characters fit the story well and they seemed to grow together.
This is a new author to me and I enjoyed the overall writing style. I think the story, and the twists, were set up well and added to the details. This was a great introduction to this author and I can’t wait to see what happens in book two.

This is the first  book in the Dream World Chronicles. It is a young adult fantasy adventure. I found the book a bit slow going in the beginning and had a hard time connecting to the characters but as the story progressed I found it an enjoyable read. There is loads of paranormal and supernatural occurances. And a shock realisation when you finally realise that nightmares are make believe after all. The stuff of nightmares actually exist.

When Alex and her sister lose their mother in a car accident they are sent to live with their grandmother who they have never met. Strange things start to happen as they realise that their grandmother isn’t all that she seems and that there are secrets about their family that they have yet to uncover.
Now Alex is set on the path to uncover those secrets and face the dangers that go bump in the night.

It was an entertaining read and I look forward to reading the next one.

I must say that I love young adult genre books, especially fantasies. I hadn’t heard of this book before but noticed in on the library shelf. The cover caught my eye, and it was a recommended by one of the staff picks for the month. I loved it. I felt engulfed in the story from the beginning as the author does a wonderful job of describing the characters and the world the live in. I love her way of using all types of paranormal characteristics in the book, especially dream catchers. This isn’t something I am used to reading about in books but was glad to see that she decided to use them in this story. I look forward to picking up the next installment in this series to find out what happens next.

Sweet Nightmares: The Dream World Chronicles Book 1 by Chynna Pace is a paranormal fantasy book. It is the best of both worlds.

In her whole life, she has never experienced a nightmare. She has no idea that this is what makes her a fighter. Alex Rokosz, who is fifteen years old, has always yearned for a family. So when her mother dies and she and her sister are forced to live with Matilda, the grandmother they never knew they had, Alex wants to form a relationship with her and learn more about her father’s disappearance. Instead, she meets a slew of strange characters in her new home, including Kacper, her grandmother’s mysterious seventeen-year-old roommate.

When Alex witnesses Matilda and Kacper killing a real-life nightmare, things get crazier. She wakes up in a world where sleeping is hazardous, nightmares are real, and creativity is magical. She learns that her family has a deeper history than she previously thought and that her own destiny is far larger than she ever anticipated.

I loved this story and the concept of it as well. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is the first book that I have read from this author, I cant wait to read more.

I was ensnared with interest from the first page! Written in first person point-of-view, Alex Rokosz is a character I quickly began to relate to. Alex’s mother has recently died and she is going to live with Matilda Rokosz, the paternal grandmother her and her little sister Zoey have never met before. And then there’s Kacper! A mysteriously rude boy that is a couple of years older than Alex and lives with her grandmother as well.
The descriptions of emotions and scenery in this book were detailed enough that I never struggled to imagine or feel what was was going on. The story flowed so well and the mysteries hinted to in the beginning of the book were revealed with some wonderful flair as the story progressed. There were a few moments near the middle and end of this story that I was caught on the edge of my seat, anxious to see what would happen next.
I am hands down thrilled that this is going to be a series and there will be more books in this world with these characters! I’ll never look at nightmares the same.

15 year old Alex and her 11 year old sister, Zoey, have their world turned upside down at the unexpected death of their mother. Being taken in by a grandmother they have never met, the girls struggle to adjust to their new lives. But things at Grandmother Matilda’s house aren’t all they seem to be. Matilda shares her home with 17 year old Kacper, a strange, often sarcastic teen. But when Alex catches the two of them killing, yes, killing a nightmare, she becomes part of a world she never new existed.

Full of magic, friendship, sisterhood, and fear, this book is an excellent start to the series. It is easy to read as the story flows effortlessly. The characters are likeable and have the reader rooting for them each step of the way. The world building is great, and I can’t wait for the rest of the series. Chynna Pace has created a unique story.

This was a good YA fantasy. It has a really great plot that kept me turning the pages even when there were moments that felt really stilted. Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles Book 1) by Chynna Pace – Review by Lorrene Huisman

Sweet Nightmares (The Dream World Chronicles #1)Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Seriously freaking good!!! I was hooked literally by the character introductions! I can not express words enough how good this was. It was like a good piece of cheese cake that just got better the more you ate it, or in this case as you read it. I didn’t expect the book to unfold how it did. It was different and really good. It went on a path I didn’t see forth, it was original and I seriously feel in love with the author’s writing style!

In the beginning we are introduced to two characters whom go by the names of Zoey and Alex. Its a sad introduction as they just lost their mother and their doing her funeral, and you can tell the deep impact this has on the two of them. I found Alex really had the most feelings, even if it seemed invisible or not there. Alex was more of the sister who could feel everything and try to maintain it. Because basically, that’s what you are suppose to do in hard times, smile and put your best foot forward.

Upon their mother’s death the sisters move to live in their home of their grandmother. She was a character I had a million questions about based on first meet. Something seemed off. She struck me as a mysterious person, but with more secrets than the first introduction was giving me. I wanted to know more , but I knew I barely scratched the depth of this book and needed to read on…so I did.

What struck me right away as something was off about the grandmother or the house, (also must note loved the description and fine details of the house the author gave) as Alex was a rare soul where she never had nightmares her entire life! That was until she started sleeping in her grandmother’s home. That struck me as something like a dark storm cloud was looming, but what it was, was yet for me to find out.

Alex talks about her emotions and feeling through out this book. I did not realize it as first, but it to me in my brain, ended up being a high importance as the story continued on. Alex had a gift , but little did she when everything first took part, had no idea it was, as well as myself. Alex is very caring of Zoey, it reminded me of what I do for my little brother keeping him safe. It made Alex a more heart felt character though she already was. Things progress as Alex as well as Zoey get used to their new life. Their home was their new life. They tried hard to fit in with their grandmother as well I dare to say the grandmother’s rather odd boarding mate. Perhaps secrets lie deep within these walls and souls of this house?

Things really take off rather quick from there, strange things happen that a normal reality can not comprehend or explain. I found it mad e Alex feel she was losing her mind from the grief and she was not sure what was a nightmare and what was real. More things come to light, that suspicions of the house and its inhabitants are brought to light. Alex was destined for something far greater than anyone could have prepared her for. Things get scary and odd, and she learns why things happened and happened. Was she ready for all this though? It didn’t matter. It was her time now and she had to go forward and face what comes forth from the path that was always made for her. Trust was to be the hardest thing to be and forever for her though, the people she trusted within were not allies, and enemies were they really the bad ones? The main question is though, can Alex fulfill what she is meant for?

I finished this book in no time. I was hooked and completely engulfed by the characters, the plot, and the secrets and wonders of the book. I simply loved it. It was a great read and full of suspense that made me yearn for more and want to know what would happen next as I read on. I loved the story alone, but Alex as she adventured into things she questioned and things happened all made this story so gripping!

This book was a really a unexpected joy to read. I knew it would be a book i would enjoy to read, but I honestly had no idea how good the writing technique would be and the style and the powers of the authors words would have on me. I honestly can not wait to read the next one. I have a great yearn to find out what will happen next. Seriously read this and find out what night mares are really made of and not just your dreams, your own reality, but also the darkest corners of your mind! Phenomenal read!

Three words: can’t. put. down. From the first sentence of Sweet Nightmares, book one of the captivating Dream World Chronicles, you are pulled into the world of Alex and Zoey. After the first chapter, it is nearly impossible to stop. A true tale of sisters, complete opposites, Alex wears her heart on her sleeve and Zoey finds her emotions in painting. Grief ripples through them as they move to their grandmother’s home and find true meaning of the prophecy. You feel immersed in the emotions and thoughts of Alex as she finds her way in her new reality, one she thought she could only find in a novel. She finds that trusting people is not always as easy as it seems, and she quickly realizes she pours her heart out to the wrong person.

I found myself at the end of the book in no time, realizing I would have to wait to find out what happens next. I will impatiently stand by for Chynna Pace’s next book in The Dream World Chronicles.

This is the first book in this series and what a great start it is. This is a young adult story that I enjoyed and look forward to reading the next book. This is a well written fantasy story where sleeping is dangerous. Alex and her sister lose their mother and have to move in with a grandmother they hardly know. She also has a roommate that is really odd. As things move on, things get stranger and stranger. A place where nightmares are dangerous and full of magic and fantasy. What will happen when Alex realizes that her family may not be who she thought and how important is destiny to her. They are great characters that bring the story to life. They are connectable and made the story fun and easy to read. I found this to be a fast paced story that was entertaining and engaging. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

This was a great young adult novel! It has been a little while since I picked up a young adult novel because I wasn’t sure it could capture my attention as well. Sweet Nightmares by Chynna Pace had no problem pulling me in! I finished this book in under a day!!

Following the emotional trail that Alex leaves dealing with her mom’s death and having a rude Grandma and trying to care for her sister and learning truly shocking pieces of herself and her heritage, it leaves you a little raw after reading. Chynna Pace spares no word while feeding you emotions to match Alex’s and sometimes Zoey’s. Their story is just starting and by the end of the book, they know it too. This is such a great setup to book 2, but if you don’t plan on reading book 2, you will after the ending!
