Honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book but I was intrigued. I love fantasy and I LOVE enemies to lovers books. But this one just seemed so perfectly sophisticated. To say the author has a way with words is an understatement honestly because she is AMAZING. The plot was brilliant and I really couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I was greedy for what was yet to come. As the first book in this series I can truly say I cannot wait to read the others! Just so amazing.

It was a lot better than I expected going in! The Elements of the Crown by Kay L. Moody, is a book I typically stay away from. The supernatural element is what drew me to it though.
The world the author creates is intriguing, but has some beautiful aspects to it. The Characters, what can I say, there’s a lot of them. That isn’t always a bad thing however at the same time I intend to be vague not to give anything away.
Talise at the age of seven was brought from the outer barrier of Kamdaria, known as Storm, to prove she can manipulate the elements. Marmie does everything to make sure Talise gets her chance to make the academy, even giving up her meals so Talise has the strength to cultivate the task at hand.
Then there’s Aaden, a mysterious student who shows up at the elite academy, who is just as good if not better than Talise in cultivating and manipulating the elements. Which puts Talise on edge, because if she can’t successfully become a Master Shaper she has no choice but to return and live the rest of her life in Storm.
This book is definitely a fantasy adventure that includes love, friendship, enemies, and fighting.
If you love a great fantasy, this book is for you!
If you like surprise twists and turns, this book is for you!
If you like the emotions a book may make you feel while reading it, this book is for you!
Believe when I say it has a little bit for everyone, so DEFINITELY check it out! You won’t regret it!!!

A good read for the weekend! This book is a one that I am so glad I read because it’s a little different than what I normally read. I really liked this Fantasy and man Talise made my heart hurt. I felt for her and all that she had been through and endured throughout this story. I admit I did tear up a time or two but it was worth it. I am looking forward to more by this author in the future!!

Oh goodness, my heart hurts for these kids! The Element of the Crown by Kay L. Moody is the first book in the Elements of Kamdaria series, and it is amazing!

I cried, I hid, and I felt my heart shatter during this book. The emotions that Moody smashes against your head while reading this book are intense. This has to be one of the most emotional reads I have read in a long time. You get pulled in learning about this little girl, Talise, and her caretaker, Marmie, while they speak and bare their souls. (I am not entirely over the feelings while writing this.) Then repetitively we see hope and then watch it drift away and wait for it to come back. This is a must read!

All fantasy and magic lovers need to read The Elements of the Crown by Kay L. Moody as soon as they are able to! The first book in the Elements of Kamdaria, the book follows the story of Talise and Aaden, combining the four novellas Ice Crown, Wind Crown, Dust Crown and Fire Crown into one, making for a long story but by the end you will be needing more!

Talise comes from the outer ring of Kamdaria, the Storm and her only way out is to become master shaper after her ten years of training at the academy. I loved the similarities to Avatar: The Last Airbender, Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, so fans of any of these need to read this book! I am excited to see what follows in the coming books, which I plan to read as soon as I am able to!

After reading the synopsis of this story I was intrigued and decided then and there to give it a go. I find for me fantasies and dystopian novels can be hit or miss. Some are easy to get into almost like receiving a hug from a good friend, others not so much. The author hit this one on the head with a beautifully written masterpiece that left me hunting down the second book to read what happened next.
We start off meeting Talise and her aunt Marmie as they journey through the gate so Talise can be tested and gain entrance into the academy. The guard initially dismisses her, after all she is from the storm and people their do not typically can shape any elements. The storm is more about survival than making their way out of it. Talise surprises the guard by being able to shape all four elements fire, air, water, and earth. She works hard at the academy to become master shaper, after all it is the only way out of the storm. Everything is on track until her Aunt Marmie passes away and a newcomer showcases his skill in shaping abilities.
All seems lost after conflict with Aadan at the competition in front of the emperor sees them both held in a room unsure of their fates. They decide then and there to work together, escape the chamber and hold audience with the emperor. He then does something unprecedented and decides to select two master shapers from this class. Training begins and is unconventional in what Talise and Aadan have read about what other master shapers went through. Slowly but surely secrets start unfurling and they are thrust in a war they may not be ready for. Can they both make it out alive and protect the emperor? Can their relationship survive the secrets? This is a very long read having condensed so many novellas to build this trilogy. Yet, it is one book you may have trouble putting down. Be careful with reading at bedtime, as that one last chapter seems to go on forever!

I just can not get over how good and awesome this book was! The fantasy side of the story and the whole love the one your put against type of thing, worked very handsomely in this book, I found everything I read through was easy to understand, and came together like a beautiful dinner plate! Amazing read!

As I mentioned I loved the fantasy side of the story, yes very much so! I really enjoyed the character Talise and her back story, and who she was, and how she came to be I really felt for her at times, and honestly between you and me, I was rooting for her in the Emperor’s Champion Game! Talise was a very strong character and had a lot of strength in her heart! That said, life is never easy right. Throw in a guy you meet and you begin to open up to in more ways than one, then realize you are basically against one another after what you both desire more than anything in your hearts. Not easy is it? Overall though, Talise remained strong and true. She was remarkable, and she is my personal favorite.

Other than a good strong female lead, which I did freaking love. I loved the fantasy side to this book as I have mentioned above. Magic and the conquests Talise had endured really came together very well I find. It really showed all aspects of Talise and her colors. I really did enjoy the romantic side of her and Aaden. Though they were made to be opponents, there is a thin line between love and hate isn’t there?

Loved this book with a passion. It was a amazing read, with sword fights, quests, magic, and even romance. Again I truly loved it had a strong female read, which is something I love having in the books I pick up, especially ones that along the lines of magic or fantasy. This was a compelling and very fun, amazing read to endure! Very highly recommended from me, this is one that you have to read!

Talise and Aaden are pretty amazing children. Thrown together at the Academy, they are competitors in the Emperor’s contest. War breaks out, all goes to hell and they are becoming friends; attracted to each other. This book was truly fascinating. The detail and how everything just came together. Reading how Talise came from the Storm, one of the many caste groups people are seperated into, made me think of The Hunger Games. That said, being a fan of that series, I wholeheartedly add this one up along with it. So much going on in the undertones with a rich, detailed story, makes for a strong book. Talise kept coming up against twists and turns; she just ran with it and kept going. She was trying very hard to win for her family and that kept her motivated. Great book! Adventure for the youth. I think the adults will enjoy this too. Give it a read, I know you’ll enjoy it.

The Elements of the Crown (The Elements of Kamdaria, #1)The Elements of the Crown by Kay L.  Moody
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a collection of 4 books which make up the Elements of the Crown series. They are a young adult fantasy series with a enemies to lovers romance thrown into the mix as the books progress. The author does an amazing job of bringing all the magical aspects to life and really making it all believable. The characters are well written and it’s nice to see their progression through the series.

My favourite character has got to be Talise. She has come from a background of the lowest of the low but because of her gift for manipulating the elements she is given a chance at a special academy which will improve her life. However she has to give up a lot for this opportunity. Mainly her mother. It’s heartbreaking to read her story and her struggle without her mum but then to see how much her character grows and blooms through the series makes them really enjoyable.
This is a great series for anyone who like magic, magical contests and a bit of romance thrown in.

The Elements of the Crown by Kay L. Moody is the first book in the Elements of Kandaria series. This is a well written story that was quite exciting to read. The author has created a world filled with intriguing characters that really pull you in. I thought Talise made for such a good main character. She was easy to connect with and I became invested in her journey.

Wow. Just wow. This is my first time reading Kay L. Moody. I have seen several of her books because they pop up on my “suggested next reads” on my Kindle and I am so glad I picked this one up!!

From the beginning of the book, I was pulled in to the story of Talise. She comes from nothing in the Storm region to studying at the academy because of her talent to be able to shape 4 elements at the tender age of 7. Ten years later, she’s worked her way to the top of her class and has made some close friends. She realizes that she has relaxed in her training/shaping (because she’s the best), when Aaden comes to compete against her for the place of Master Shaper. He is surly and distrustful of everybody, but he is masterful in his fire shaping. If she doesn’t win, she gets sent back to Storm to live a life of poverty. I don’t really want to share more about the book because it really is about Talise finding her path; discovering who she is despite what others say she is. It’s also about family and the lengths that we will go to protect them.

As I was reading this book, I was afraid that the end of the book was near only to discover I was only 40% into the book! I was overjoyed!! It felt like there were massive conspiracies going on and I just wasn’t sure which one was going to pan out. Just when I thought I knew what was happening something shifted in the plot and it kept me turning pages well past midnight to find out how it was going to work out.

I truly enjoyed this book! It is a perfect YA book. There’s no bad language, no overly romantic scenes, and all around a wonderful read.

This is a great start to a series. This is not my first book and it definitely will not be my last book by Kay L. Moody. She grabbed me from the first sentence and kept my attention until the very last sentence of the book. The story is a simple one but it is so detailed that I saw everything in my mind’s eye. The story takes an adventure of a student, Tailse, who wants to be the top in her class. She is on her way until he comes along and they are paired together. She knows there is a war coming she is hoping that she has enough power to meet the danger coming at her. All she wants to do is escape from the emperor. Will she be able to escape? Will she and her partner be able to take on the war that is coming? I highly recommend this book as it is a great start to a series.

I actually really enjoyed this, and I’m intrigued enough to want to pick up the next part of the series. This book is amazing! I didn’t even notice that it is 4 novellas in one, the story flows seamlessly and all together. This young fantasy reads quickly. It contains everything from, mild romance, a female lead, magic, an exciting story and it has multiple conflicts which keeps you reading. This is a story with a strong female lead. We follow Talise as she grows from a young 7-year-old child all the way to becoming a 17-year-old young woman. Talise comes from an area called The Storm, which is like the dower class. But she is determined to win the coveted title of Master Shaper so that she can escape poverty for good. Her powers are to shape the elements – Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Aaden, another new student, is just as equal to her abilities, and so they are tested together for the right to stay in The Crown. These two gave the story life and it was fun and easy to read. Lots of twists and turns in this book that pulled me in and kept me hooked till the end. You don’t want to miss what happens in this story and to these amazing characters. This is a great story to pick up and I highly recommend it.

So at the beginning of the book I got Shadow and bone similarities. Which peaked my interest early on. The twist and turns in this book was great a few I kinda pieced together and some took me by surprise. It definitely dwent a bit differently than what I expected. I honestly thought the book was going to be about her mastering the elements becoming the best Master ever and that was it. Honestly it was so much better than that. The trials of war, family, courage, love, and wisdom in this book was astounding. I hope the rest of the series builds upon that. If you love fantasy books I highly recommend this series. You won’t be disappointed.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Elements of the Crown was a fantastic journey. Talise was a wonderful character. Growing up in “The Storm” put her at a disadvantage throughout most of her life but she worked hard and it shows. At a young age she was already shaping elements much better than other children her age. Fast forward 10 years and she has a chance to work alongside the emperor as a “Master Shaper”. Her only nemesis being Aaden, who is just as good if not better at shaping then her.

Aaden comes from the richer part of the world and has had everything handed to him. When the time comes to put their skills to the test for the emperor, he can’t decide who to take so he takes both of them. The emperor then puts the two through a series of trials to see who really is the better Master Shaper.

This book has so many twists and turns. It was hard to put down. The biggest twist of them all was a major “wait, what?” moment which I enjoyed immensely. Kay L. Moody is an amazing writer. I was hooked from the first chapter. I would highly recommend this series. After reading this first book, I will definitely be looking into Kay L. Moody’s other writings!

I wholeheartedly enjoyed this book!! Oh, my goodness it was good. The action, the magic, the enemies to lovers, the ENDING!? I was having a good time until the end of the book, it threw me into a world wind of emotions. If you are on the fence about reading this, please just do it, you will not regret it. Talise is driven by the need to escape the life she has as being born in the outer ring ‘storm’ and the only way to do that is to become to very best and impress the emperor, luckily, she is able to do something few can do where she is from and that’s shape all four elements, fire, air, water, and earth. She was doing just that until her competition shows up; he’s smart, rich, incredibly handsome, and just as talented as she is. She is supposed to hate him, not have butterflies every time he’s around or enjoy a smoldering kiss with him which leaves her wanting more than she should.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a brilliant YA Fantasy book. The world building is always so important to me along with character personalities and a great plot, Kay L. Moody hit the mark with all of them. This is a 5-star book!

The story follows a girl named Talia. Her journey starts on a boat headed into the inner circle, so she can get tested for the academy of the elements. You watch her learn to control her power and watch it get stronger. Then, a wrench gets thrown and this boy whom she loves to hate enters into her life. You see her struggle but then she gets right back up again with just as much vigor. Nothing stops this girl, not even her a boy she considers her enemy. You see that hate slowly start to fade and they become friends. The biggest thing that I love about this first book, is that the love/hate relationship these two have for each other doesnt overwhelm the book. It’s a nice supporting role while it lets the main story be the primary focus. I highly recommend this book to anybody who loves a good story! But fair warning though, this book has a cliffhanger that will leave you wanting more!

Not going to lie at first I was very confused at what was going on in the story and why. The description leant more towards a simpler way of describing while I enjoy the more high fantasy deep descriptions. Personally I enjoyed the variety of tropes and ideas that were used and hinted at to come in the next volumes that are coming. I am looking forward to the remaining volumes to come and will be sure to read this again when the next one comes out because I am sure I will need the refresher.

Who doesn’t love an adventurous tale of magic and action? I like how the use of magic is so commonplace, but also not everyone is insanely strong – and even the main characters have their limits. I really enjoyed seeing the character development from multiple characters throughout the story as well. We also see a lot of different elements in the book and I loved how it was built into the society in a way that explained some of their world and reasons for certain things. If you’re looking for an interesting, clean-romance, magical tale: this book is for you!

The Elements of the Crown (The Elements of Kamdaria Book #1) contains the first four parts of The Elements of Kamdaria by Kay L Moody; Ice Crown, Wind Crown, Dust Crown, and Flame Crown.
It is a wonderful YA Fantasy- with magic, mystery, action, and adventure. I think it has a bit of an Avatar The Last Airbender feel to the story- but definitely has its own unique identity and originality too.
I found the story to be well written and very interesting. I think this series holds great promise, and if this is anything to go by the rest of the series looks set to be fabulous.

This book had so many twists and turns in it, nothing was quite what I was expecting and I loved every moment of it! I would have loved a bit more worldbuilding at the introduction of the book so that we are able to get a better idea of the hierarchy and people of the realms but the story line does well without.

Talise is a young girl with great abilities but the only permanent escape from the Storm is for her to finish her education and achieve the level of Master Shaper. All goes well until her final year when a new student joins them and his skills rival those of Talise’s.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and full of secrets the entire way through. As soon as you think you have it all figured out, you will be shocked with new information. I look forward to more books by Moody.

The story of Talise is amazing. She was born into a dangerous part of the land. With only one way out. To strive to be the best at the academy (elemental magic school) and get noticed to become the Master Shaper!
Working hard, training, fighting and sometimes struggling. Following her on her journey and seeing what objects fall in her way! Will she crush them or let them crush her?
So good. Go read this book right now!

Talise is the ultimate protagonist. She is strong, determined, and independent. Even though she forms a connection with Aaden, she is perfectly capable on her own. Kamdaria is a dystopian world that I want to dive into myself.

The character and world development in this novel are outstanding. This story forced me to the edge of my seat and kept me up late in order to finish it. I know it is going to be the same way in the next book, which I cannot wait to get my hands on. If you enjoyed the Hunger Games or Divergent, this novel is for you.
