I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping crime thriller which had me hooked from start to finish. Set just as the pandemic begins, struggling waitress and Mum of two Josie Thompson, wants a fresh start away from her abusive husband, and from the small town she lives in, but she’s not going anywhere. Josie is charged by the FBI for murder after victims turn up in the river near her isolated cabin, and the FBI think she’s the serial killer. Whilst let out on bond, and knowing that if she’s convicted she will face a life in prison, she is determined to prove her innocence. However, a growing fear of the Covid virus and her family’s long held secret, that they refuses to disclose are just two of many obstacles in her way. As Josie tries to clear her name she realises that not everything in the town is what it seems and that she cannot trust everyone. The storyline and plot twists had me happily turning the pages late into the night, unable to put the book down. The suspense built throughout the story and the twists kept me guessing until the end. A real page turner of a novel and one which I definitely recommend.

I enjoyed this suspenseful thriller. This is a well written story that takes place in a town where things are not always as they seem as Josie is about to find out. She is being accused of being a serial killer. Will she be able to save herself or will the past play a part in her take down? I enjoyed what she brought to the story. She is a strong, supportive character. I also enjoyed the rest of the characters and how connectable they are. They bring the story to life on each page. The twists and turns kept me turning pages fast just to find out what happened next. This is a fast paced story that was hard to put down. It is a story that is full of action and suspense you don’t want to miss. A great story that filled my afternoon with suspense. I highly recommend this book.

A psychological mystery where dark secrets are kept. A crime story that is unpredictable and exciting. This best selling author gives us a thrilling original story, that is unique and full of surprising twists and turns. The characters are all well developed, and they are fully realised with some who are not who I thought they were and not all can be trusted, and some may have sinister motivations.
A pandemic, an abusive husband, murder, a serial killer, all set in a town where things are not what they seem.
This is the authors fourth book, but it was the first book that I have read. I enjoyed his plotting and scheming. I found this quick read interesting, and well written. I will now go back and read his earlier work.

I really enjoyed reading this Thriller. The author does a fantastic job of gripping the reader from the beginning and not letting go. There are so many twists and turns to this story that you don’t know what to expect next. I also enjoyed how the author incorporates the Covid pandemic as well along side the story plot. This devastating event makes the whole story feel more real and more connectable. I really liked Josie’s character. She is a hard working, loving mum who will stop at nothing to protect her kids, she does seem a little paranoid in places but this is normally for a legitimate reason.

Josie lives in a cabin with her two kids, away from it all especially her abusive ex husband. There has always be stories through the years of dead bodies being found in the river surrounding Josie’s property and there are secrets her family wish would stay hidden. But when dead bodies start turning up and Josie is the number 1 suspect she needs to figure out who is behind these murders and why before she can clear her name.
Add to this the added drama of Covid and Josie having to face her fears that plague her today and in her past and this is a very entertaining read.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Last Cabin Girl is a tightly wound psychological thriller with a potentially unreliable narrator and dark twisty trail of clues. Josie is a single mom of two, desperately waiting for her divorce to become final so that she can escape her abusive ex-husband and the Podunk town she grew up in. While hiking one morning, she thinks she spots a body in the Mohawk River. However, with her terrible vision, past mental health troubles, and having cried wolf once before about dead bodies in this river, she is hesitant to report what she sees. Eventually a body is discovered, but the few clues as to the murderer seem to point to herself. Did she have something to do with harming the woman? Has she suffered a delirium (again) and acted on emotion? Or is something else at work here?

I really liked the portrayal of Josie, it felt interesting and nuanced. She is certainly a lot more fearful than many people, and it is difficult to work out if her concerns point to a dangerous mental disorder, or if she’s been a victim of gaslighting, or what the real story is. There is a lot that I definitely did not see coming in this book, and some very dark imaginings twisted into this plot, especially near the end. A great read I finished in one sitting.

I found the cover of this novel, intriguing, and I was drawn to it at first glance. I was not aware how enticing the contents of the book would turn out to be! I was lost in it, hooked by the characters and the events that occurred, the writing was amazing, and the suspense really was the best it could be.

Josie was a great character, I loved how real she was. And I loved the use of the pandemic in the story line as well. I found there were characters I loved, and ones that gave me that kind of bad energy feeling! The characters really made the book. The things Josie had to go through and uncover was unreal! I loved her personality and her strength of her character and her mind. There was a lot of suspense and not knowing what one thing would leave to another. I loved this book, it is a must read!

Wonderful work by an amazing author. If you want to read a book that will keep you hooked up to the spell binding ending, then this is the book for you! High recommendation from me, and a must read!
