This book is amazing. I never read books in one day, but I did with this one. I was absolutely unable to put it down. It is one of the first books that addresses the world with COVID and I have to say, if I didn’t know that part of the story was based in reality it would make for an even more chilling thriller.
Josie is the main character. She has moved to a cabin in the woods along the river along with her children. They are hiding from her husband, well her soon to be ex-husband if he will ever sign the paperwork. They are living in a cabin from her childhood. She was 12 when she saw her first body in the river. She swears it was pink. The town will never let her forget it.
Just recently Josie saw another dead body in pink in the river. She is becoming very paranoid just as rumor is spreading about a new flu-like virus that is killing people in China. Her ex is becoming increasingly threatening and violent.
Josie works as a waitress. Her usual Zumba group is the local gossip mill. That’s where she finds out her ex is dating someone fairly seriously. That is also where she first hears of the mysterious app designer. She never expects that he would come into the diner and sweep her off her feet.
Soon, her ex is missing and suspected to be dead and more bodies are turning up. Unfortunately, she becomes a main suspect which is when the real drama starts.
I truly can’t speak enough for how hooked this book had me. Everytime I thought I had figured out what was going to happen next, there would be an unsuspecting turn of events. This definitely had me on the edge of my seat. I love how the new pandemic was intertwined and how it all played into Josie’s paranoia. This book is definitely one that I recommend.

Wow! This was a great story!!
It started off a bit slow but picks up about midway through. There is so many twists and turns that kept my interest. There were some evenings, I couldn’t put the book down because I had to know what was next.
It also intrigued me that the story is set in more recent times. Hearing Josie talk about the beginning stages of the pandemic and the fear for her family that came with it was relatable.

My first read that includes Covid -19 as well as my first read by this Author and I love this book!

The Author has given us a very interesting and engaging plot line and has us rooting for the main character. All characters are introduced well and have their own unique twist to the story.

I really enjoyed the journal entries that are mixed between the chapters, it added to the suspense and twists throughout the book.

This is a great read if you are into crime suspense thrillers, I couldn’t put it down once I started! (I ordered a physical copy of the book before I even got halfway through the ebook!)

What I liked was that I could not read all of the characters and was surprised throughout the novel by what motivated and guided them. In the end, they might surprise you! I highly recommend this book! It will not disappoint.

Imagine having to hide from your husband, a husband who is a drug pusher and a doctor. The husband is also part of the Chinese communist party. A man who is dangerous and deceitful who only used you to stay in the United States. Now you have two children with this man whom you are afraid of and must live in a cabin by the river in which he is not fond of. Moreover turmoil, your mental health status is coming into play again when another body is found in the river sporting pink clothes like the one from your childhood. What do you do and who do you turn to when even the feds think you are a suspect? Now, one of the worst pandemics is spreading through the country and you have a poor and weak immune system.
Poor Josie must navigate her way through all the above-mentioned problems and remain sane. What a great crime story and a powerful one about the one woman who can face the demons and conquer to be successful. Josie was written as a strong lead character that I couldn’t help but to walk in her shoes and live the life she was given. The characters are well- developed, and I look forward to reading more about the adventures of Detective Josie! A great read full of suspense and thrills. Don’t miss out on one of my favorite reads of the year so far and enjoy learning about the new app called Triggered, truly what we do in society on our social media outlets. Pick up the book!!

Where to start with this book? AMAZING! Probably one of the best thrillers I’ve read in quite a while. I was pulled in from the beginning of this story and couldn’t put it down. I’ve never read a book by this writer, but I’ll check out some of his other works now. This book had me gripping the edge of my seat. I thought his writing was great even though some of the plot twists I could see coming a mile away. I loved how it included some current day themes, like the COVID pandemic. With everything that the main character was experiencing it reminded me of what some of my own friends and family have dealt with during this time. I loved this book. Highly recommend that you read it.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Josie is a waitress working in a small diner in her hometown that she cannot wait to leave. After leaving her abusive husband she is waiting for her divorce to be finalized so that she can start fresh somewhere else with her two kids. Unfortunately, life has other plans for Josie and suddenly she is mixed up in a murder case.

When Josie discovers a body floating in the river near the isolated cabin that her and her kids live in, she chooses to look the other way and not say anything to anyone about what she saw. From personal experience Josie knows what the reaction would be from friends, family and the local folks who love to gossip. Josie knows this because she was teased and ridiculed years ago when she saw a body in the same river when she was younger. What Josie never expected was for the FBI to charge her with one of the murders. Now faced with living her life behind bars and never seeing her children again, Josie is desperate to prove her innocence. But who can she trust to help?

As Josie starts looking into the mystery of the dead bodies in the river, she stumbles onto some dark secrets that have been held for years. Secrets that even her own parents have kept from her about her identity and where she came from. Secrets that they will not divulge for fear of what will happen to them all. Josie is already struggling with her own personal demons as well as growing concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic so this news could not have come at a worst time. Still unsure of who to trust Josie asks the help of her brother to solve the murders and prove her innocence.

The author did an amazing job of keeping the reader hooked and wanting more. I found this book impossible to put down as it took some twists and turns that I never saw coming. The character of Josie was well written and contained many layers. As the story unfolded there were moments that I could not help wondering if Josie really was innocent. Was Josie capable of murder? Did she black out during one of her episodes? There were so many questions that begged to be answered which of course required reading until those questions were answered. I highly recommend this psychological thriller!

Wow!!! That’s all I can say about this book!! Josie is living with her two children in her family’s cabin after leaving her abusive husband. In the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic she is working in a diner trying to provide for her kids when her ex finds her. In addition she is being accused by the FBI of being a serial killer. This book has twists and turns galore!! Is she the killer? I was back and forth until the very end I’m not going to lie. There is also betrayal that I didn’t see coming. I’m giving this book 5 stars because it kept me intrigued until the very and really guessing. The characters were so thought out, down to the details. Definitely worth the read! Would recommend to everyone who likes suspenseful, twisty, whodunnit books!

What a ride this book took me on! I found myself experiencing an array of emotions. I was irritated with the main character, Josie. I couldn’t stand her ex husband, Eddie. I was suspicious of the new man Josie was dating, Travis. This book tells us the story of Josie at the start of the pandemic then through it. She is dealing with a crazy ex while trying to raise 2 kids. Then in the midst of all that, she finds out a secret her parents have kept from her. I have a little bit of pandemic fatigue, so I struggled with that part of the book. But let me tell you – I didn’t have anything figured out. I thought I knew who the bad guy was. I had no idea the scope of the end of the story. It is well worth the time to read!

Thrilling and suspenseful from chapter one, this novel lured me in and kept me there until the end. I love the author’s writing style, which painted a vivid picture of a quaint little town with boatloads of secrets. I could really picture myself there, especially with the current events of the pandemic thrown in. I found myself feeling the fear and frustration of the ordeal she was facing right along with Josie. If you’re on the edge about trying this new author or delving into the thriller genre, I would highly suggest starting out here. Must read! New favorite author!

Wow. This story has so many levels to unwrap. First, it was well written. I was immediately drawn to Josie. Her complex character had me feeling sympathetic and questioning her sanity. I can honestly say I was still on the fence about her innocence until the last few chapters. When I began this book
I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy reading about a pandemic we are still living in. Although it played a role it was not the focus of this book. This story is filled with secrets, lies, greed and half-truths. At the center of all this is family. I did not expect a few of the twist. I had suspicions of a few people but the depth the betrayal goes is mind blowing. This was a creative yet thrilling way to bring awareness to something that affects all of us (no it’s not the virus) you’ll have to read to find out what it is though. I won’t ruin that for you. 😉

This book had me thinking and making prediction after prediction until the very end. What started out as relatable with recent events quickly turned into a nightmare I would never want to live through. The author did a great job building the characters and diving deep enough to make those twists extremely shocking. While the plot is out there, in todays world, it really makes you think if it’s really that far fetched.

The Last Cabin Girl follows Josie as she is in the process of filing for divorce from her abusive husband. She has secluded herself in a cabin with enough bad energy to keep her husband away from her and her children. While she fights for the end of her marriage, she watches as the coronavirus works its way across the ocean to America. That won’t be the only thing that fills her with terror once a body is discovered on her property. Every single bit of evidence points to Josie being the murderer.

This book is different from anything I have read before. It had action, betrayal, confusion, and twists that left my gaping. Josie is a very strong female character that works hard throughout the book for everything she wants in her life. She isn’t very likable but I’m not sure she was meant to be. She is someone I would avoid being friends with but that’s what makes her the perfect suspect.

My only drawback with the story was that it felt as though there was too much going on. I feel as though there was so much packed into the plot that at times the plots got completely lost. While the author did a fabulous job of tying up all the loose strings at the end, it felt as though there were too many strings. Personally, I didn’t feel as though it was realistic. With all that being said, I did enjoy it when I knew what was going on.

Overall it was a pretty easy read that took me on a rollercoaster. As far as being a thriller, it hit the mark completely!

I did not know what I was getting into when I choose this book. All I saw in the description is a world event that turned everything into chaos. Unlike other books where it’s about zombies or natural disasters destroying the world. It’s about the current time when COVID happened. At first, I felt indifferent because it is still going on and after a while, it becomes old news. Though this book brought a twist to the present which interested me and keep me reading.

The title really says it all!: “A totally gripping thriller full of twists” and boy was it!! First of all- I loved the characters, they were so fleshed out, with Josie being my favorite. The story really was twisty and kept throwing me through a loop. I’m a big fan of mysteries, especially ones that I can’t figure out before the end, and this one did that for me! Being able to read Josie’s journal and seeing her inner thoughts through that medium made me feel more immersed and interested in the storyline. I HAD to finish this in one reading! I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait to read more by this author! One of my favorite reads this month for sure- if you love mysteries give this one a chance!!! (Also- having this take place during COVID just adds another element where you really feel involved- or at least I did!)

This is the first read by the author. The Last Cabin Girl is an amazing read. It is a definite must read.

Josie is a divorcee and a single mother. Now she’s just got to figure out how to do it. When dead bodies start turning up she finds that her ex was into something dangerous. The quote I chose for Josie is: “Shut up, Eddie. If you think you’re going to kill me with that thing, I’ll at least leave you some scars to remember me by.”

Highly recommended for Crime lovers.

This book took me on a ride. In the very beginning of the book, we are met with our main character Josie. She is a mother that has fled to an old family cabin from her abusive spouse along with her two children –Tracy and Jack. Josie is doing her best to keep her kids safe and out of harms way. This is made difficult however when ex-husband Eddie has found them and is determined to destroy what Josie is trying to build for her family. To make things more complicated, Josie stumbles upon a dead body when she is on a walk. This then leads her down a rabbit whole of investigations and conspiracies. What made this book especially interesting to me is that it was set during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the book clearly portrays this with how prevalent the virus is in the story of this novel. I recommend this book for anybody that would like to see fiction at work during very relevant and recent world events.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Last Cabin Girl is a suspenseful, twisty thriller that starts a couple months before the COVID pandemic takes place. The main character, Josie, lives in a small town in New York State. Josie is a waitress, and a prospective nursing student who is trying to divorce her abusive husband. Her husband is the town doctor who is also known to be a drug dealer and do shady business. The story starts at the beginning of the pandemic and you see Josie seem very paranoid about many things in her life, the pandemic, her husband, and the secrets that surround her family. She lives in her family’s cabin that is very isolated, but also holds certain memories of her past. She had witnessed a dead body in the river the cabin lives along, but no one believed her. She finds herself in trouble when her husband and many of her husband’s associates go missing or are found dead. Did Josie have anything to do with this? Is her family secrets part of the problem?

This book had a slow start in my eyes. Reliving the first handful of months of the pandemic in this book didn’t give me the motivation to just fly through the pages and chapters. However, once you started to be given little aspects of how many secrets were floating around this town, it started to pique my interest. By half way through the book, I wanted to know the secrets and where this was all going. Well, I was not disappointed. The twists and turns of this book had me saying OMG. I had so many aspects in mind about what could be happening, some of them I figured out, but was pleasantly surprised that I would never have come up with some of the other ones presented. Worth the read if you like mysteries.
