The Earl and the Peahen (The Scarlet Salon Book 5) by Jean Wilde

The Earl and the Peahen is the fifth book in The Scarlet Salon Series by Jean Wilde. This is a wonderfully written Historical Romance that is set in the Regency Period and I absolutely am loving this series. I’m a huge fan of this genre and each book I read by this author gets better and better. This is a quick read as I read it in an afternoon and once you start you won’t want to put it down. I had to know how everything was going to play out. Jane is a very plain as her name woman who is very determined to accept only a marriage of love, and she has only one more chance left to meet someone and marry. Then there’s Alexander who’s been quite fine with having no one that is until he meets Jane. These two find themselves being imprisoned and being let go only to go there separate ways. Will these two find their way back to one another? Find out what happens next in this must read. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

I love historical romance; I love getting lost in the era in which they are set and this book was exactly what I love about this genre. I loved the setting for the story, the characters, everything really. The authors descriptive language made me feel like I was right there with the characters, I could image the places she was describing and the clothes that they were wearing. I loved Jane and Alexander, they certainly had a connection and passion between them! I loved reading their story and all the twists and turns in it! I would highly recommend this story and I cannot wait to read more from this author again in the future.

The Earl and the Peahen by Jean Wilde is the fifth book in the Scarlet Salon series. This is a brilliant historical romance that really caught my attention from the moment I read the description. This is a stand-alone book so does not have to be read in order to be enjoyed. Out of all the books I have read by this author I think this one is my favourite so far. I really just fell in love with the characters. They were interesting and had a clear connection from the start.
The author did a great job with the writing in the book as well. It was evenly paced and the plot was developed exactly when it needed to be. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book and definitely worth your time.

The Earl and the Peahen is Jean Wilde’s fifth book in the The Scarlet Salon series. It is a historical romance set in Regency times. I enjoyed the banter between the main characters which made it fun to read. The storyline is refreshing and original and had me laughing.

Jane is not like the rest of her family. She is not a beauty but rather plain. All she wants is a marriage of love. The Earl of Norwich wants a wife. Easy huh! Well you would have thought so.

I enjoyed this historical romance story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites yet so far. This is the fifth book in this series but can be read as a standalone but I highly suggest reading the previous books as they are that great. This is a well written story that pulled me in from the beginning. It is a fast paced story about Jane who is twenty-five and determined to find love and marriage by the end of the season. Then you have Alexander who has been okay with no one until now. Now that he has started looking for a partner in marriage, he runs into Jane. But fate has put a criminal in the path and now they find themselves imprisoned but once freed they go their own ways. What will fate have in store for them? Will they find their way back to each other and still have the same feelings? I enjoyed watching them grow throughout this story. They bring life and make the story entertaining to read. I am glad I picked up this book and highly recommend it.

A Gentleman’s Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon Book 4) by Jean Wilde

Lady Victoria Gilbert, a noblewoman, is looking for a husband. Lady Victoria is a strong, confident woman looking to marry for love, not a contract marriage of title and money. The last person she wants in her life is the opinionated Blake Hall, a son of a mill tycoon. They despise each other until they agree to be civil because they both sincerely care for Patience Hall, Blake’s younger sister. After a while the two find themselves in a compromising situation when Blake suddenly hatches a plan to help keep Lady Victoria’s reputation intact. What happens next is something neither one expects…

This story grabs hold of you and you’ll want to keep reading it. I will definitely be reading more books by this author in the future.

A Gentleman’s Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon Book 4) by Jean Wilde. I’ve just recently gotten more into historical fiction and this one has definitely pulled me in even more. This author wrote characters that drew me into their world. The back and forth between the characters was great and had me hooked. Each character brings something unique to the storyline and they are relatable making easy to be lost in the pages. It’s a well thought out and well written story that has a nice pace. I’m excited to see where this author takes readers next. I’m giving this story a four star review and highly recommend it.

This is a historical romance book. I have found that historical romance stories are intriguing. Jean Wilde grabbed me at the beginning with her characters. They are fully developed and I could see the characters in my mind’s eye. The plot line kept me wanting to know what else was going to happen. Being that this is historical romance, it takes a minute to think back how things may have been. Lady Gibert is looking for a husband. Blake Halle, who comes from wealth, is being told he needs a wife. Will Blake Hall and Lady Gilbert start a relationship or will it fall to pieces before it begins? I recommend reading this book to find out the answers to this question.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Gentleman’s Stipulation is the fourth book in Jean Wilde’s The Scarlet Salon series. It is my first encounter with the writer and her writing I was lucky that the story can be read as a standalone as it is number four in the series! I tend to keep to my ‘usual suspects’ when it comes to historical romance and it is not very often that I pick up a new writer and I am happy I picked up A Gentleman’s Stipulation. It was an intriguing and engaging romance that pulled me in from the beginning.
A Gentleman’s Stipulation gives us Lady Victoria Gilbert and her family secrets and Blake Hall, the son of a nouveau rich mill tycoon. On surface they have nothing together so you can start picturing already now what a ride the writer is taking us on with those two! She gives us some pretty scandalous scenes that were quite refreshing to read in an historical romance… add to this authentic historical details and you have something every historical romance lover can cherish!
After finishing book four, I went back and read the blurbs to the first three and I think that I need to deepen my acquaintance with Ms Wilde and The Scarlet Salon further!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Gentleman’s Stipulation by Jean Wilde is the fourth book in The Scarlet Salon series. I am a sucker for a good romance book, and I was surprised to find one in this historical romance book. I was pleasantly surprised at how great this book was, it was so good I read it in an afternoon. Lady Victoria Gilbert and Blake Hall meet at Victoria’s cousin’s wedding. Though there are initial sparks between them, they quickly get on each other’s bad sides. Convinced they will never see each other again, they just try to get through the wedding festivities. Victoria goes to London to try to find a husband and ends up staying at Blake’s estate. Though Victoria may be looking for a husband, Blake isn’t interested in finding a wife. During a card party, they are found in a rather compromising position. They must work through it together and learn to get along. I loved watching their complicated relationship waiver from lovers to enemies.

A Gentleman’s Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon Book 4) by Jean Wilde. I loved this book. I read it one sitting and once you start you will want to do the same. Its the story of Lady Victoria Gilbert who is older than most debutantes because of a horrible mistake during her first coming. A rumor was spread because she made a friend mad and it ruined her chance to find a husband so she is desperate to find one now. She longs for a husband and children. Blake Hall is a new rick son of a Mill Tycoon and has been spurned in the love department because he wasn’t good enough. He has sworn off women especially debutantes until he meets Lady Victoria. Her sharp tongue makes him so confused…does he want to smack her or kiss her. After their first meeting knowing nothing will come of their relationship they banter back and forth until family and friends find them in a compromising position. Blake saves her and hatches a plan to save her reputation by saying they are engaged. Feelings get involved while they are spending time together and there is a lot more at stake than a reputation. Will they make their crazy situation work? Read A Gentlemen’s Stipulation to find out!

I enjoyed the love-hate in this book. It’s number 4 in the series but can be read as a standalone. Lady Victoria isn’t impressed with Blake and Blake isn’t impressed with Victoria. It doesn’t matter that shes attracted to him….she wants love, not convenience. Shes a bit brash which threw me off considering the genre, but it ended up being a decent book.

A Gentleman’s Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon Book 4) by Jean Wilde was intriguing and engaging. It was an entertaining romance novel that I struggled to put down. I loved that the author readily caught my attention and pulled me in. The storyline itself had an excellent flow with an interesting climax. It had a sweet ending.

This book can be read as a standalone in the series and follows Lady Victoria Gilbert and Mr. John Blake Hall junior. Victoria and Blake were excellent characters and it was fun to see them warm up to each other as the story progressed. I loved the secrets and scandalous scenes in this book. I enjoyed every bit of this book and easily give it 5-Stars.

A Gentleman’s Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon Book 4) by Jean Wilde is a historical romance story where the characters usually start out not liking each other and fall in love. I really enjoyed the banter between the two and found myself wanting them to have their HEA. I like something where there is a little sugar and spice and the women are sassy and equal to their partners, well as much as they can be in this period of time. The story is well written and kept me intrigued throughout. There were times when I was extremely frustrated with the characters but I did enjoy it. I did start through the series so I will now have to go back and read the others. I am intrigued to read Isabelle’s story.

This isn’t my typical romance read with the historical twist to it but I most certainly was not disappointed in this novel from Jean Wilde. I have also not read her other work but for some reason the teasers pulled me into this novel and I was determined to see what would play out for these characters. I loved how this may have been an historical romance but it felt fresh enough that I did not find myself bored. The characters have some serious love/hate scenarios that kept me hooked to the kindle to see how things would play out and if they would end up loving each other for who they were in the long run and happy. You will have to read the story for yourself to find out but I can assure you won’t be disappointed you did. This is also the fourth book in a series but I didn’t have any issue reading it out of order and am now intrigued enough to see what the first three books entail as well and seeing if there will be more in the series to come!

A Gentleman's Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon, #4)A Gentleman’s Stipulation by Jean Wilde
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Gentleman’s Stipulation is the 4th book in the Scarlet Salon Series by Jean Wilde. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone. I had not previously read any of the other books in this series before this one. In fact this was my first book by this author. I did not feel as if I was missing any necessary information to enjoy the book although I’d like to read some of the others now since I enjoyed this one very much.
A Gentleman’s Stipulation is a regency romance novel with a good bit more steam than many other regency romances I’ve ever read. I though the author did a great job of setting the scene in regency England and I was drawn into the story from the very beginning.
The story involves Lady Victoria Gilbert who is looking for a husband before she gets any older and is considered too old to marry and Blake Hall who is not looking for a bride yet. When a situation brings the 2 of them together Blake does the gentlemanly thing and announces Victoria as his fiancé. There are a few major problems: One, she doesn’t like him and two, he has a few stipulations to add to the deal.
Can Victoria and Blake put aside the fact that Victoria doesn’t like or trust him? Can Victoria agree to the stipulations that Blake has added? I suggest you read this great book and find out for yourself. I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed. It’s a really great read.

In this book, we find Lady Victoria Gilbert who is battling her heart and mind, her needs and her desires, but which will she choose? She’s not gonna settle for the detestable Mr. Blake Hall nonetheless.
Heir to a million dollar throne, doesn’t have a desire to settle down. After being turned down, he’s given up on trying to impress the likes of the debutantes in London’s high society. Lady Victoria is a spitfire for Mr. Blake Hall who seems smitten with all she has to offer.
The two are thrown together by unexpected circumstances as their unlikely union shapes and throws them together. Embark on this cynical and steamy that will definitely be a page-turner! You won’t regret it.

“…I refuse to be roped into a marriage of convenience. I want a passionate woman in my bed, not some cold fish who’ll only tolerate my presence out of a sense of duty and to beget me sons.”
She wondered if he was aware that he’d just described how most marriages of the ton worked. Love matches were a rare occurrence in high society, as was fidelity.
…Victoria, however, couldn’t imagine accepting such a fate.
For once, she and Mr. Hall were in agreement. As unfashionable and middle-class as it was, Victoria wanted a love match. And while beggars couldn’t be choosers, surely she could find a man who shared her views. Present company excluded, of course. Just because she wanted to kiss the man didn’t mean she wanted to be married to him. She didn’t relish the thought of trading barbs and arguing with him for longer than his planned visit.”

A Gentleman’s Stipulation is the fourth book in The Scarlet Salon series by Jean Wilde. This is my first read by Ms. Wilde, and as you have probably noticed, I have come into this series a little backwards, starting on book #4 first. When this book caught my eye, I immediately read the blurb and was quite intrigued by what the story could hold. It has been a while since I have read a regency romance, so I thought this would make a great change of pace from what I had been reading of late. I hadn’t noticed it was the fourth book in the series, but as I discovered, it can definitely be read as a standalone. Having said that though, I really enjoyed the story and will certainly be going back to read the other books in this series, too- as well as exploring Ms. Wilde’s other work/s.
This is a really great historical/regency romance- it’s an enemies to lovers tale, full of drama, banter, spice, intrigue, chemistry, tension, and romance. Ms. Wilde may be a new-to-me author, but I am more than happy to have just discovered her work- as she certainly knows how to tell a cleverly woven and captivating story.
Lady Victoria Gilbert is 24 and has gotten to the point where she will soon be considered as an ‘old maid’. She really needs a husband and dreams of having a home and family of her own. But she has a bit of a barbed tongue, a mind of her own, and a stubborn independent streak- which hasn’t stood in her favour. Her chances of finding a suitor are becoming slimmer by the day.
Blake Hall is the wealthy son of a Mill tycoon- he has material wealth, but no title- which has set him apart from London’s High Society. He can’t stand the simpering young debutantes, he would rather a woman who would challenge him. So, you would think that when he meets Lady Victoria, it would be love at first sight. But instead, they completely rub each other the wrong way. Although I think they secretly enjoyed the verbal sparring. But what happens when they are caught in a compromising situation? All the answers you need are waiting to be discovered between the covers of “A Gentleman’s Stipulation”.
Ms. Wilde has crafted her story really well- adding rich, vibrant, and authentic historical details. Her storytelling really draws you into her ‘world’ and she easily captures her readers attention. I was immersed in the story, staying engaged right through to the end.
The characters are really well developed with their own unique personalities. And even though they both annoyed/frustrated me at times throughout the story- I couldn’t help but like them and was rooting for them right from the beginning.
I am looking forward to exploring the rest of the series now!

Thank you, Jean Wilde!

A Gentleman’s Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon, #4) by Jean Wilde was a good 4 star read.
I was pulled in right from the beginning. This is Lady Victoria and Blake’s story.

Victoria is 24 and really wants a husband and family, at her age she is considered a spinster. Then she meets Blake at a party, he’s the son of a tycoon and let’s just say there wasn’t any love lost between them. This is a good love and hate story but you could feel the attraction between them. While at another party something happens that unexpectedly brings them together and they have to marry.

Can these two put their hate aside and actually find love? Will they make it to the altar?

Overall I enjoyed this book. I really liked Victoria, she is a strong character who isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind. Blake has been hurt in the past and is very cautious. The bantering between these two was great. I look forward to reading more from this author and series. 1-click and get started today.

This is a great romance story set in historic times. I don’t normally read historical romance books but i really enjoyed this.

Lady Victoria needs to find a husband. At 24 she is considered a spinster and her chances of finding a husband are slim.

Blake Hall is a successful business man who meets Victoria at a party however its not love at first sight, more like hate.

Victoria and Blake run each other up the wrong way constantly and they aruge none stop.

However, an incident that happens at another party means they need to put their differences aside to make their surprise marriage work.

As time progresses hate turns to love and with Victoria happy her past turns up to mess things up.
Can they get through this or will Blake cancel the wedding leaving her a ruined woman.

I love losing myself in the world of historical romance – it is my ultimate favourite genre to read and I particularly love it when an author knows how to write this genre well and Jean Wilde absolutely did that! I was completely swept up in this story form beginning to end – from the characters to the setting to the scenery it was a wonderful read. The authors’ writing was beautifully detailed – I could imagine exactly what I was reading at times. The story A Gentleman’s Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon Book 4) by Jean Wilde is a historical romance book. I loved reading this story as it pulled me in, and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had read the last page. The story has romance and two main characters that loved reading about, Lady Victoria Gilbert and Blake Hall. Victoria is a woman who doesn’t shy away from saying what she thinks. She has a strong personality and in the times that she lives in that is not always the proper way of things, especially when she is in the market for a husband. She soon finds herself at odds with Blake. Blake is a man who has been spurned in love and not ready to take the plunge again. That begins to change when he meets Victoria and the feelings that he has when around her. They then find themselves in a situation where they both become an unlikely pair and find a way to walk the thin line between love and hate. They can’t deny the attraction they have for one another. What does the future hold for Victoria and Blake? Read this book to find out. I enjoy reading historical romance novels and this book is a good example of the reason why. I enjoyed reading about the push and pull between Blake and Victoria. There are secondary characters that I enjoyed reading about and how they interact with Blake and Victoria. This is a book that will grab your interest the whole way through. I would highly recommend reading it.

They are connectable and I had no problem relating to them. Lady Victoria is in need of a husband and Blake has no need for a wife. When they are both put in a position that could change things for them, will fate change their perspective of each other? I loved both of them and their banter back and forth. Jean Wilde is a Canadian author of historical romance. She fell in love with the world of Regency London when her mother introduced her to the work of Georgette Heyer at the age of 12. She likes to write strong, flawed characters with an abundance of common sense. No necessary miscommunication or drama, thank you very much. When not caught up in something book-related (reading, writing or listening) she can be found spending quality time with her husband and maddeningly lovable twins.
