Love’s Refrain (The Stardust Duet, Book 1) by KG Fletcher- Review by Micalah Weatherholtz

Love's Refrain (The Stardust Duet, #1)Love’s Refrain by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“No one could ever comprehend the love Kat and Phillip shared. Theirs was a love that crossed a chasm of time and space into the future. And it was in that future their song would never die.”
I think that quote sums up a lot about this book.
I had a hard time getting into Loves Refrain at first but I’m so glad I was able to persevere because after the first couple chapters I was hooked. Although I did find the “modern” storyline to be a bit off putting. I’m not sure if it was because of Kat and the older Phillip or the outrageous, jealous, mess that was Spencer. I really did love the story line of Kat and Phillip once she went back in time. Their love was so strong they were able to overcome the obstacles of time and find a way to be together. Overall this is a lovely, light, romantic read that I enjoyed. I will definitely be picking up book number two when it’s released to see where the author takes these two.

What a unique and timeless romance that exists between the covers of this book. Such and amazing tale of passion, mystery, true love and that desire we all feel.
I loved Kat. She is a true heroine and I really think her strong determination and amazing talent are wonderful but it is really her heart that makes this story so great. Phillip was described so well you get to know him down to his dimples.
This novel kept me turning pages from the moment I read it until I finished it. I really enjoyed how detailed the story is and I love that it just pulls you in. I honestly can not wait for book two!

There’s just something about time travel in a love story that makes it even more romantic. Every time I stumble across one I can’t pass it up, and I’m so happy I found this one! K.G. Fletcher did time travel in a unique way that felt new and exciting for me. I had no idea how it was going to work in the beginning, and was confused when Phillip had his first POV. But man, once the story really took off I was hooked! I loved the characters, especially Kat. I loved how well written it was with the music and time differences. Seriously, beautiful story. Now I need the next!

I’ve always said I was born in the wrong era; but man-oh-man- K.G Fletcher explored and nailed this perspective. What’s not to like about Love’s Refrain? It’s original, entertaining, enthralling, romantic and a page-turner. I enjoyed this novel immensely. I appreciated that Kat had the chance to meet past and present versions of Phillip; it just added an extra layer to this novel. I’m excited to see what the future holds for these two, to experience a love that transcends through time. I mean, please don’t keep reading my ramblings…Check out Love’s Refrain- I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

Love’s Refrain by K.G.Fletcher is a a romance that does not know the bounds of time. It takes place in both 1947 and the present time. I could not wait to get to the end to find out if Kay and Phillip would find one another forever. I will definitely be reading book 2 to find out where their story continues. The book has characters I loved and a character I could not stand K.G. made these characters come to life for me.

Love’s Refrain: A Time Travel Romance by K.G. Fletcher is so amazing! Anyone who reads this is going to love every second of reading this! The attention to detail is fantastic. I felt like I was there watching everything happen. I had the worst time putting this down and taking care of chores or sleeping. (Who needs sleep when you can stay up all night reading this wonderful book!) I was leery at first, historical romance is not something I would usually pick, but I am so glad I did. You won’t be disappointed picking this one up! I’m so excited to start book 2.

This is a beautifully written tale of a love story through time. Katherine is a great character, a strong woman and musician who follows the beat of her own drummer. When she suddenly falls back through time to meet Phillip, the attraction they feel is instant and consuming. But how can they be together when they live decades apart? Kat and Phillip are wonderfully drawn characters, and their story is mesmerizing. The book is easy to follow and enjoyable to read. In the first part of the book, I found there were sections that were a bit slow for me, but once I got into it, I read it straight through til the end. I will be looking out for book 2!

This book is absolutely hands down one of my top five favorite reads of 2021! Now that isn’t easy considering this is the 150th book I have read and reviewed this year alone. This book is absolutely amazing. I was swept away to a timeless feel of love story romance that made me want to watch all my favorite old movies again when this book was done. It just exudes that nostalgia and that is just the world building and the character presence yall. The love story will blow your mind. These two, Phillip and Kat, will make you want to be them, or find a love like theirs or hope your love is like theirs. I am so excited to get my hands on book two and will be waiting for it like its rare gold. I wouldn’t wait to run and grab your copy now!

Love's Refrain (The Stardust Duet, #1)Love’s Refrain by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Katherine “Kat” Moore is a jazz singer and performer, returning to her home town in Georgia for the last lag of her tour. Backstage, she meets octogenarian Philip Gordon, who hands her a locket that he claims belongs to her with a message, urging Kat to “come back” to him. Confused, Kat tries to find meaning in the locket, brushing it off as the actions of a confused old man. But when she discovers a strange portal in the theatre, Kat soon winds up in 1947, and meets the young and handsome Philip Gordon face-to-face. Kat and Philip fall in love and desperately wish to be together but it seems impossible. Kat travels between 1947 and her own time, trying to find a way to be together with the love of her life.

K.G. Fletcher is a musician and author, and her love of music and performing is evident in this novel. Kat and Philip bond over music, connect over lyrics, and fall in love to song. Inspired by songs from different eras, Fletcher creates a musical backdrop to her time traveling romance.

I had a difficult time adapting to Kat’s relationship with elderly Philip. Although it was obviously chaste, the way Katherine described her love for him was off-putting (even though she meant the younger version), and their modern-time connection was fraught with disturbing disbelief. I don’t know what could have changed to allow me to accept Kat and elderly Phillip as a burgeoning couple from the past but the set up was awkward and uncomfortable.

The conversations between the characters was a bit stilted and in a few places it seemed forced, merely contrived to convey some background information that the reader would not otherwise know about. This often put unnecessary breaks in the story flow, dampening my enjoyment.

This is the first novel in a series by K.G. Fletcher, and I can see it garnering popularity with a certain crowd of readers. The romance was hot and heavy in this one, and fans who prefer their reading steamy and romantic will adore “Love’s Refrain”. I can see comparisons being drawn with “Outlander” and even “The Time Traveler’s Wife”, although the ages of the main male characters in those stories were well within a decade of their female love interest.

Fletcher’s creativity with the portal, and the musical component, added a unique flair to the plot. I was annoyed by how often Kat was called “doll face” or “doll” (in 1947) and “honey” and “sweetie” (in modern day), but the excessive condescension was appropriate to the time and situation.

“Love’s Refrain” is a light, romantic read for fans of time travel love stories. Kat and young Philip will immediately charm, and there is no doubt readers will be rooting for them. It will be interesting to see what the second novel in the series holds.

Kat Monroe is forced to choose between 1947 and present day. The love of her life, or an elderly fan she’s grown close to. She fits so well between both worlds, its heart breaking to follow her through her story. Her crazy story of time travel between then and now, who she will love, and where she will be. I loved the way the author draws you into Kat’s world, as well as Phillip’s. You feel everything they go through.

Love's Refrain (The Stardust Duet, #1)Love’s Refrain by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My whole life, I’ve imagined what it would be like to time travel. As someone about to turn 27, I really wish it was possible, as this is the age that Katherine Monroe’s life changes and this novel comes to be.

One of the best books that I’ve read so far this year, Love’s Refrain by K.G. Fletcher is the first book in the Stardust series written so eloquently it was near impossible for me to put it down. Katherine Monroe and Phillip Gordon meet in an expected way, and throughout the book the reader keeps wondering what the fate of their romance will be.

The chemistry between the two star-crossed lovers is tangible, and with every passing paragraph the reader becomes more invested in their unusual romance. This tale of time travel and a love of music between two lovers makes it even more unique. A touch of jealousy from an old ex also brings a hint of suspense to the novel, leading the reader to wonder if he will come between the two lovers or if their love will prevail. Can’t wait to see what is in store in future books in the series!

Love’s Refrain takes the reader on a mesmerizing and breathtaking journey. It is truly an epic love story. The love between Katherine and Philip is genuine and sweet. I adore that the book is told from both Katherine and Philip’s perspective. The story is flawless and flows easily between the present and 1947. Each character is so richly developed that you can almost hear Katherine singing or Phillip playing the piano. This was truly delightful to  read. I cannot wait to devour the rest of Katherine and Philip’s love story in Love’s Reverie.

Genre: Romance

I have never read a book so fast!
If you love love and time travel this is for you.
A tale of love, time and death, is time enough?
A true story that love conquers all.
What would you do if you were transported back in time.
In 1947 the female lead goes on a journey that will have you wanting to skip to the end, I almost read the last chapters first because I was captive after the first page.
KG Fletcher has a way with words describing the story in a ay that makes you feel as if you are a character right there on the page living scene to scene.
Five stars and I cannot wait until book two. I hope I get time to read this again soon.

Love’s Refrain is the first book I’ve read by K.G. Fletcher and it was just a decent read for me. The story was nice but I got a bit bored with the descriptions of everything. Just too long winded for what I typically enjoy reading so I felt it could have been a more concise story. I was hoping to get absorbed into the story based on all the positive reviews, but I personally struggled to continue reading but I persevered to finished it. I just did not get all the feelings the other reviewers alluded to. With this mentioned, the overall story line was good, with an unconventional love story that goes from past to present.

This story was honestly such an amazing read. It was beautifully written and I was completely captivated from the very first page. The author transported me back in time to 1947 and even with the switching of time period I wasn’t confused at all. The planning that clearly went in to this story shone through as it was seamlessly written. I loved the characters Kat and Phillip – their story was so sweet and I just loved reading about them. Their story wasn’t all plain sailing and I was so invested in what I was reading about them that I was rooting for them the whole way through.

I don’t think 5 stars is enough for this story, it truly was an amazing read and I cannot recommend it enough to other readers. Love’s refrain is a fantastic story with brilliant characters and was a truly wonderful read! I cannot wait for book 2!

Love’s Refrain was such a good read! I was blown away by the time I got to the end of this book! I will admit at the beginning, I was feeling very iffy with the storyline and it seemed very strange to me, but as I kept reading I was completely enraptured and entranced. This was such a beautiful story the author told. I know the author says it’s based on around a movie or inspired by a movie, but I have never seen the movie so I was completely surprised at the storyline of this book. I cried while reading. It was so heartbreaking and so romantic it completely took me through the wringer of emotions. I’m so glad there’s going to be a sequel featuring Kat and Phillip!

Love’s Refrain is one of the most interesting and addicting love stories that I have ever read. Ms. Fletcher gives us incredible characters and an incredible romance that doesn’t just face all of the normal obstacles of life but it transcends death and time. I loved this story so much that I wanted to speed read it, but I forced myself to slow down and really enjoy all of the tony details and the change back in forth from 1947 to present day. I absolutely loved this wonderfully written magical time travel romance, inspired by the classic ‘Somewhere In Time’. This is such an original romantic adventure story with a time slip element and it had me hooked from start to finish. I literally could not put this book down as I fell in love with the characters, the setting, the storyline and most of all the amazing romance and love between the main characters. Set both in the present day and in 1947 the descriptive narrative really brings the setting and the eras to life.

In the present day Katherine ‘Kat’ Monroe is a celebrated jazz singer who is ending her first national tour, when an elderly stranger gives her a locket with a mysterious message inside it. Then whilst at the theatre Kat discovers a portal which transports her back to 1947 and the postwar era. Kat finds that she is still in her small home town and it is here that she meets a young and very handsome pianist, Phillip Gordon. Whilst finding her way in 1947 both her career and her heart are at risk but she hopes that Phillip can help her understand what is happening. When back in the present day Kat finds herself torn between two different versions of Phillip who she has fallen in love with in both eras.

I love both the present day and 1947 versions of both Kat and Phillip as they are likeable and relatable, and their chemistry sizzles off the page. The storyline flows well and is a real page turner with a plot that is full of drama, adventure, and of course love and romance. The story is told from both characters point of view and this helped me feel engaged with them both and immersed in their story. I enjoyed the musical elements that run through the story and I thought their playlist at the end was a nice touch. I am now impatiently waiting for book two, ‘Loves Reverie’.

This is one of the most romantic books I have read in awhile. Katherine and Peter’s love transcends time. Peter knew her most of her life. The writing was beautiful and romantic. Her jealous piano player seemed to be a buzz kill and I sure wish they would have punched him out earlier. The transition between time periods seemed to flow effortless which kept the story going smooth. The characters were just so well written. Sasha and Pete were written to be supportive friends. It is such a great story that you must read it. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. This is a 2021 must read.

This book is from a new author for me, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t expecting to go on the journey that I did. It was quite a roller coaster ride. I loved it. She has a wonderful way of detailing her book so that you feel the realism in it. I know I certainly did. I thought she did a great job with the characters and I loved that she weaved the story between past and present. Her attention to detail throughout the story was amazing as she kept it so real. I literally felt that I was there. I will say that at first I felt it was dragging a little bit, but by the time I was finished with Chapter 2 I was hooked. And I couldn’t put it down. Love’s Refrain is Book 1 of The Stardust Duet. Readers follow Kat Monroe and Phillip Gordon on their journey of love and discovery. Initially when introduced to Kat’s character I worried that her personality would be written as a bit basic and predictable, but I quickly saw her character deepen and develop throughout the novel. Love’s Refrain (The Stardust Duet, Book 1) by KG Fletcher

5 +++++++ Stars

I’ll start by saying this book deserves so many more than 5 stars! I’ll also start by saying that my life is now suspended in time until October 26th, if anyone is looking for me I’ll be stationed in The Grand Theater in Whitley, Georgia I’ll be the one way up front pacing as I await the rest of this story!!

I’ll be honest, I had every intention of not finishing this book. I planned to get to the last chapter and stop. I wanted to read that on October 26th so that I could continue on without stopping. I couldn’t do it… I trusted this author, somewhere I read where she stated this book did not end on an actual cliff hanger, but more of an intermission. So in trusting that, I read on…Now here I sit…suspended in time!

I have read the famous time travel story by another author 4 times now, you know the one I’m speaking of, I have them all on my physical bookshelf on the top shelf, and have watched those books become a series on tv, which i’ve binged at least 3 times. That series has ruined me for any other time travel I have attempted to read. Until now!!!! I was so nervous going into this book, this author has literally become one of my top 3 favorites of all time and I was so scared. Well, this is why she is one of my top 3 faves. I can not even think straight right now. She took a whole new approach to this genre and BLEW IT OUT OF THE TIME TRAVEL REALM!! I’m in shock and loved this story so much. I loved the movie from long ago that for me actually started this time travel idea, I’ve watched that so many times and it’s an auto go to when I’m looking for a familiar movie to watch. This story has that feel to it, but in my opinion even surpasses that and I want this made into a movie so bad. I loved every word, every emotion that was brought out of me, I loved these characters, well, almost all of them and truly felt I was tumbling through with Kat everytime. The locket had me all messed up, and figuring that out is still rolling through my mind. I have theories on how this story will progress and eventually end and these will drive me nuts as I’m pacing this theater awaiting the release of the next.

I’ve rambled in this review and I’m sorry, but I still can’t even come close to explaining why every reader should grab this book and then buckle in and hold on!

Thank you Miss Fletcher for stomping my fears and giving me this story, I am in Love, and these will be right up there on my bookshelf, at the top and will be read many many more times in my future!

Love’s Refrain is the outstanding first book in the Stardust Duet by KG Fletcher. I have been a huge fan of KG Fletcher for a few years and have devoured and loved everything she has written. For some reason I was a bit worried before reading Love’s Refrain that I would be put off by the time travelling aspect of the book. Well, slap me stupid as I should have known better that KG Fletcher can only write amazing books that blow my socks off. I absolutely adored Love’s Refrain.
Kat and Phillip’s story is just amazing, both in the present day and when we are taken back to 1947. In fact, I think I enjoyed the parts set in 1947 the most, seeing how Kat and Phillip originally met and fell in love. I adored present day Phillip. He’s such a charming, sweet, adorable gentleman. I can imagine sitting listening to him talk for hours and being enthralled by him.
Having had reservations before reading the book, I was instantly hooked by the story and totally engrossed in it. I really can’t wait to see what KG Fletcher has in store for Kat and Phillip in the 2nd part of this duet.
