In Portugal, vineyards spread as far as the eye can see, but recently, they have been decimated and only the strongest have survived and just like those vines, so has Pedro Duan. This man who served in the military and had his whole life ahead of him has now become a recluse ever since he lost his love to another man, all he searches for now is port and other vices. Anne Maxwell is a young woman who has put her life on hold for her family, she takes on the role with happiness, despite her not having the chance to be a socialite, but still enjoying the chance to live on a beautiful vineyard and learn more about this generous culture surrounding her.

One day, she decides to take over the role of her sister-in-law and travel to the nearby vineyards to pass on knowledge which could save them, however, the first place she comes across is not what she expected and nether is the man within it. As soon as Anne enters the room he is in, he sees her as an angel exploring her dark surrounding, someone too pure for what he requested and far too bright a light for him to dim with his shadows, however, fate intervenes and a choice must be made between past and present, revenge or protection, fight or flight and Pedro knows which one he prefers, however, Anne is too vulnerable to be left to this fate and so he escapes with her.

Although, it is not a smooth escape and injuries are sustained, they find safety, however, it is not where Pedro expects it and so when he finds that his angel is not whom he thought, he takes her to his own safe haven. The only thing is that he is followed and accused of a treasonous act, they both know that he is innocent, however, he has no proof, so they set off running again, fugitives, but alive. Anne cannot understand the mercurial moods of her saviour; however, his shadows draw her too him and her light draws Pedro to her, neither can deny what they feel, but they try their hardest to resist it.

As danger creeps closer and the chase for validation of his innocence continues, the two seem to gravitate towards each other and it becomes harder to resist the other, until truths are revealed which could change everything, but will Anne be able to accept that fairytales aren’t as clean cut as she thought, and will Pedro accept that his darkness needs her light? This is yet another historical romance where passion and deception vie for supremacy while, darkness and light also fight for the win all while danger creeps closer and emotions run high across the beautiful vista of Portugal.

This is the second book in the Winemaker series. You don’t have to read the series in order to understand the characters and stories. I myself read the first and third prior to this one. I would certainly recommend reading them all though.

This as with the other book in this series is very well written. I love the writing style, flows nicely and is descriptive creating a vivid picture of the scenes as they play out. The story is clearly researched adding the the realism that is felt while reading.

As usual, I loved the charcters, they were well-written and enjoyable. I got invested in Pedro and Anne’s story, their individual character developments, as well as their progression as a couple. I particularly liked the character of Anne, strong and determined in an adventure she wasn’t expecting.

I’m not surprised I loved this as much as I did, given how much I have enjoyed the entire series. I hope for more in future!

An edgy romance novel that finds two people who both need love in their lives, one willing and one hesitant, drawn together by a force they cannot seem to withstand. However, their goals are different. When they end up forced together and on the run, they give in and find what they were missing all along. Great writing, fun to read, and exciting to follow the story. Loved it!

Who would have ever thought that Pedro could redeem himself after the last book; I would have called them crazy. But, he is redeemable! Oh my, he is so redeemable. I can’t get him out of my head. I absolutely loved learning more about his character, what motivated him, and what molded him from the person we used to know into the man he is now. I recommend this series.

The Taste of Light is book 2 of The Winemakers Series by Giovanna Siniscalchi. In this book, we follow Pedro and Anna. These two are brought together by fate as they have to flee from false accusations from a truly vile enemy. This book is a historical romance with just as much intensity and forbidden romance as the first. The emotions and passion along with the vivid detailed writing of the author make this an engaging historical romance. The continued world-building is outstanding. The well-written plot and chemistry between Pedro and Anna will keep you hooked.

Sometimes we make bad decisions and when they done to haunt they come with a vengeance and I’m afraid this was the case for Pedro , yes he’s the man we all love to hate but there’s something that makes me feel sorry for him to a degree …..

Anne comes across as a bit if a fading wallflower but don’t underestimate her and her inner Amazonian warrior woman ….

As per the first book I was ready to pack my bags and head out to follow them wherever they were , I’m a picture person and the places I “went” to and the people I “ interacted” with while reading this was just amazing . These people are complex , deep and intense but there’s a live and respect for them and their stories that you need to experience for yourself ❣️📕

I have NEVER read a historical romance book before. I truly fell in love with this book. I love that the author left out all the unnecessary details that isn’t needed in a story. This book was about redemption and love. The characters was well thought out. This was a great page turner book that will have you sitting on the edge wanting to know what happens next.

This was a good 4 star read. This is Pedro and Anne’s story. I really liked these characters. When Anne shows up on Pedro’s doorstep he mistakes her for someone else at first. There is a big twist that forces them to flee. As they spend more time together their connection grows. The author does a great job with her writing. She builds the characters up so great and you can’t wait to see where their journey will take them. Will they get a HEA? If you’re looking for a historical romance I suggest you 1-click and get started on this one. I look forward to reading more from her.

This review is going to be hard to write without spoilers but I’ll do my best!

First of all, this is a stand alone book but I HIGHLY recommend reading book 1 (The True Purpose of Vines: An intoxicating historical romance about wine and love.) so you can have a proper understanding of Pedro. Reading this book first will probably ruin a lot of things for you!

I HATED Pedro in the first book. I mean, a deep loathing for the man. I can’t say that now. He’s found a way to redeem himself with the way he’s handled Anne. It took me awhile to be able to say that but he’s earned his redemption!

Anne is helping out her sister-in-law with the vines and dealing with an outbreak of Phylloxera when she meets Pedro. Anne is a polar opposite of Pedro, along with several years younger.

Can Anne show Pedro how to be a decent human being? Will Pedro find his redemption and deal with his past?

There’s a little bit of everything to love in this book. A great historical based story that includes some humor, spicy romance, and a redeeming heart!

The Taste of Light (A Winemakers #2) by Giovanna Siniscalchi

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. The Taste of Light is the second book in A Winemakers Series. I love the writing style and how the author put the words together.

Anne moves to help her brother and sister in law. Once she gets there she finds herself wishing for true love. She wants someone to love her unconditionally. Then she meets Pedro and things become difficult. Can she make it work? The quote I chose for Anne is: “When Griffin came to live here, he was an adult, but I was not yet your age. Plus, my best friend is Portuguese.”

Pedro loses his bride to someone else. Winemaking became his passion after that. Then he meets Anne. He finds himself falling for her, but that causes some trouble. Can he forgive his past? The quote I chose for Pedro is: “If by courting you mean to pay for her brother’s debts and not require a dowry, then yes.”

Highly recommended for Historical Romance lovers.

This is book 2 in the series and while I didn’t read book one I was able to read this book and not feel lost. The MMC Pedro is not a knight in shining armor but he still draws you in. A violent past with guilt causing him to drown it out with alcohol makes him belief he deserves the bad and no good. Until the FMC Anne comes along. While she knows he has demons to face she believes that people are a product of their past and at heart are inherently good. She sticks by him but he doesn’t know if it’s enough to face all of his past

I didn’t realize this was a series until I started the book, so I am definitely going back to read the first one now! Even without reading the first, I was able to follow along well enough and enjoy the entire story. I feel the author did an amazing job with this emotional romance. I especially enjoyed the beautifully written scenery throughout the story which helped pull everything together for me. It was absolutely a book that I breezed right through and needed to know what was going to happen next. I’m excited to see what the author has planned for the third book! I highly recommend picking this up and reading it in order to get the full effect.

I do admit to choosing to read this book solely based on the name, a goal of mine being this year to choose books to read based off of the name or cover every month this year, but I was surprised to find just how much I enjoyed the book! I absolutely love the way that Pedro is written, the ‘heartless’ widow, and the twist of fate that brings him together with Anne, the ‘naive’ woman who falls for him. I found myself loving the ‘Hades and Persephone’ trope, a huge fan of Greek Mythology making it easy to do so. I did not read the first book in the series, and did not find that I necessarily needed to, which I always love in series like these. I am definitely now a fan of this author and can’t wait to read more of this series and her other published works!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having read and enjoyed the first book in this series I was looking forward to this novel, and I was not disappointed. It can be read as a standalone story, however, I do recommend reading the previous book as it’s so good! Set in Portugal, during 1872, and Pedro Daun is an aristocrat haunted by his sins and his murky past in Mozambique. Pedro shuts himself in his winemaking property, drowning himself in port, having lost his bride to an Englishman. Anne Maxwell moves to the Douro to help her new sister-in-law, but she dreams of finding the perfect man who will love her unconditionally. When Anne and Pedro meet Anne can see that Pedro yearns for love, and Pedro craves her touch, but he does not want her soiled by his past sins and so dose not act like the perfect prince from her dreams.
Things take a dangerous turn when a conspiracy is revealed and a false accusation is made against Pedro, turning the couple into fugitives. As Anne and Pedro try to hide from a treacherous enemy, they also try to prove that Pedro is innocent. The more time the couple spend together, the closer they get and their passion grows. However, for them to have a future, Pedro must forgive himself for his past and let Anne in, and Anne needs to understand that love isn’t like it is in fairy tales. This is a wonderful historical romance with likeable and relatable characters, an amazing setting and an intriguing storyline, all of which kept me hooked throughout. The descriptive narrative brings the stunning scenery vividly to life and the added historical details made me feel immersed in the era. I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster as I followed Anne and Pedro’s epic love story, and I was left thinking about them long after I had finished the last page. An enjoyable and engaging read, which I highly recommend.

5 Stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This historical romance was fantastic……..this is book 2 in this series and I would recommend reading book 1 first. I can say that while I did enjoy book 1, I loved this book, being 2nd in the series with my every being.

Can I say……I was not happy with Pedro in book 1….not what so ever and never ever in a million years I would end up liking him so much in book 2…..I know get it…..and my heart…. Pedro is haunted by his past and wants love. Pedro truly believe he once had love, but choice in the matter…it did not happen. A chance encounter and ending up on the run, he meets Anne.

Anne… I loved Anne so much and just her being so kind….she is helping her brother and also travels to help the other neighbors understand and learn how to take care of their vines..and an encounter she meets Pedro…and Pedro at first did not take to kind to Anne…and both end up on the run. Why are they running?

Will Pedro and Anne connect and Pedro find what he is looking for?

Chemistry, banter, intensity for sure…..I Loved Pedro and Anne in this story so much!

Well Done!!

I must be honest, I did not read the first book in this series. But trust me, I’m going back and reading it just so I can read “The Taste of Light” all over again!

Pedro is the classic dark, brooding, broken, antihero in the beginning of the story. You don’t know whether or not he will have the ability to get his stuff together. It’s pretty marginal. Anne, on the other hand, is everything light! Pedro spends a considerable amount of time trying to convince her that he is unredeemable. This leads to the most tender, heartbreaking, curse shouting, lovers angst you could imagine! As the reader, I couldn’t decide if I wanted Anne to kiss that man senseless or smother him in his sleep! Sometimes both at the same time, (but in which order???)

The story is amazing and the magnetism the two have is otherworldly. (insert swoon here) Happy Reading! Expect to stay up all night!

The Taste of Light (The Winemakers, #2)The Taste of Light by Giovanna Siniscalchi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading the first book in the Winemakers series, The True Purpose of Vines, I was hooked on Giovanna Siniscalchi’s amazing work. This book like the first has a dual perspective, Anne Maxwell, the younger sister of Griffin from book one, and Pedro Daun, who was also first introduced in the first book.
Anne is a kind, sweet and naïve girl in the beginning, looking for her happily ever after. Pedro is in part a villain in the beginning of the book, running from a past that has haunted him for more than a decade. When first meeting Anne knew nothing of who Pedro was but could see something in his eyes that said she found her person. Pedro did the only thing he could do; he took her with him to protect her from the guilt of his past. A wild journey across the country, each fighting their own battles within them while running for their lives. Over the course of this beautifully written book the author immerses the reader in the story, leading the characters to not only enter your heart but to steal it away. Anne shows an unimaginable amount of kindness and an unwavering determination to break down Pedro’s walls and show him love. The way she deals with the violence and takes everything in turn never altering who she is, is admirable. In turn Pedro finds that he not only craves her touch but that she has became his very breath giving him life. When the sins of his past threatens to soil the pureness of her soul.
Will Pedro allow Anne into his heart? How will Anne deal with the truth of his past? Is love truly strong enough to overcome all? Once again, the author builds not only an amazing world, but her characters leap off the page filling your heart with their story. I couldn’t help but route for Pedro and Anne, not only for him to overcome the sins of his past but for Anne to be at his side the entire way. I am officially hooked on Giovanna Siniscalchi, I went too long without her beautiful work. The third book in the Winemakers series, The Truth about Myths comes out September 20th, 2023, and I already have a countdown to see where this world goes next.

The Taste of Light by Giovanna Siniscalchi is the second book to the Winemakers series. I have to say this book was absolutely beautiful in every way. From the setting of Portugal 1872 to the character growth of Pedro, who is previously portrayed as a bad guy. I really loved Anne. She is not just a proper lady who teaches Tony English, but also has the ability to be tough when required. These characters have so much depth and layers, along with the plotline. I absolutely implore you to give this story, as well as the previous book ‘The True Purpose of Vines’, a chance if you love a good historical romance. The Taste of Light (The Winemakers, #2)The Taste of Light by Giovanna Siniscalchi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pedro Daun, the Count of Almoster, has shut himself away from the rest of the world in his winemaking property. Feeling bitter over the loss of his bride to another man, an Englishman whom he hates, he drinks port in the hopes that he will be able to forget his painful past.

Anne Maxwell has recently moved to Douro to help her sister-in-law and is hoping to meet the perfect man with all the qualities she seeks. When Anne arrives at the home of Pedro it turns both of their world’s upside down.

Pedro and Anne appear to be exact opposites of one another. Pedro is abrasive and has been jaded by his past. Anne is naïve and yearning for unconditional love. When fate throws the two of them together as they outrun one of Pedro’s enemies, Pedro and Anne learn more about each other. She sees a softer, gentler side of Pedro that others have not seen, and knows that he too is yearning to be loved. Pedro sees Anne as an angel and although he yearns to be with her, he fears that he will ruin her with his sordid past.

This book was beautifully written, and the details were exquisite. Each scene was written so vividly that it felt as though you were there with the characters in that time, and at that place. The characters of Pedro and Anne were masterfully written. Pedro seemed harsh, cold, bitter, and cruel at first glance but as the story unfolded, we learn more about what he has endured and why he is that way. His pain, his, suffering, and his trauma, have all helped to shape him into the man he is. Underneath that cold exterior beats the heart of a man who yearns to be loved but is terrified of being hurt again. Anne comes across as naïve, and oblivious to the harshness of the outside world. Yet, as her story unfolds, we learn that there is much more to her than we think and that she is courageous and strong when necessary. Beautiful love story like no other!

I was reluctant to read this because I did not like Pedro after reading the first book in this series. I am so glad I gave it a chance because I loved learning more about Pedro as a character, about his past, what motivates him, and how he can change. A chance encounter brings Anne into Pedro’s home and the chaos of his past. Pedro doesn’t know who she is in the beginning and then learns that she is Anne Maxwell, the sister of Griffin whom he hates for taking his Julia away. They are drawn together and as she learns more about Pedro (sometimes through his brother Cris) she starts to open up to him too. This is war, hate, revenge, family, love, and romance all swirled together in a wonderful read!

The Taste of Light is the second book in The Winemakers series and is a wonderfully written Historical Romance about, love, redemption and adventure. I absolutely loved this book and was hooked from the very first page. I had a hard time putting this down and found myself reading late into the night. This is Pedro’s and Anne’s story. Pedro mistook her for someone else and know they find themselves on the run because he being accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Anne sees good in all and fought her attraction to Pedro at first. These two definitely have chemistry between. Can these two have a relationship?I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

I was hesitant when starting this book as Pedro hadn’t been a character I particularly enjoyed in the first book. I found it hard to imagine how the author would turn him around. I am so pleased to be able to say she absolutely did! I cannot believe how much I connected with the character in this book and how much more I wanted to read about them. The character development was amazing to see and I really enjoyed every part of it.
The story was just as good as the characters in this book. It was exciting and jam packed with so much going on. I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy this book too much but I have come away thinking it is even better than the first. This is a great story that I cannot shout about enough!
