What a magical and adventurous book for the first in the series! I’m not sure how book 2, The Veil of Corruption, could get any better, but I am sure sticking around to find out. I lost quite a bit of sleep getting lost in this story, but I’m fine with it. Good books are worth staying up late for!

Our main character is Wilf Gilvary, who is a teenage wizard. He just wants to be a normal teenager and is not in favor of using his magic in pursuit of that normalcy. Once his friend catches the virus, his hand is forced into learning and using his magical abilities. The problem is that magic isn’t easy to pick up. Will he be able to save his friend, or will his fears impede his ability to learn it quick enough?

I truly loved this original YA fantasy. I am excited to see what the rest of the series brings. Don’t hesitate to pick it up now so you can binge the entire series like I’m about to!

The Virus of Beauty (The Virus of Beauty Book 1) by C.B. Lyall – Review by Kirsten Berkebile

I thought the book was going to capture me, as I like witchcraft and magic in stories. However, I felt rather lost like Wilf (the main character in my opinion). This is suppose to be the book 1 of the series but I felt like I was missing something throughout the story. Maybe if I continue into the series, it might pull me in. I really want to continue the series so keep a lookout for my next review of book 2.

The Virus of Beauty (The Virus of Beauty #1)The Virus of Beauty by C.B. Lyall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Virus of Beauty is Book One in the Virus of Beauty Series. In the first book we are introduced to teenage wizard, Wilf, who would rather play soccer than use his magic because he is terrified of magic. When his father dies suddenly, he finds himself thrust into the political battle between wizards and witches in the Magical Realm. As a virus starts spreading throughout the witch community turning all the witches beautiful, Wilf must overcome his fears of using magic to help his friend Katryna who has contracted the virus.

This book was an intriguing read as it put an interesting twist on the concept of beauty. In the world of witches, the uglier you are the more powerful you are as a witch and beauty is considered a sin. This gives one a lot to think about in a society where so much emphasis is placed on being beautiful and perfect. The characters were well developed, and I found the character of Wilf interesting because as a wizard he had no desire to use magic. I loved Ermintrude’s no nonsense approach to things. A must read for anyone who loves books about witches, wizards, mystery, action, and adventure.

This fantasy was definitely different from the normal fantasy that I typically read. But it was different in an amazing way. Centered around a coming of age character with plenty of amazing support characters, magic, witches and more I simply couldn’t put this book down. This book was just perfect it was fast paced, and intriguing while the plot was full of originality and a uniqueness. So if you need a new read then look no further then this one

This is such an original and unique story that caught me by surprise. I thought I had read most variations on witch stories but this one has proven me wrong. I was pulled into this YA fantasy with ease and really felt myself engaging with the story. I loved the writing style of the book and wanted to know what was going to happen.
I thought the author had created a great mix of characters. They were each so interesting and added to the overall story line. This is a great story and I can’t wait for the next.

The Virus of Beauty is the first book in The Virus of Beauty series by C.B. Lyall. This is a wonderful YA fantasy that has such a unique, original, and very imaginative storyline. This is the first time for me reading one of Ms. Lyall’s stories, but after finishing it I can honestly say that it won’t be the last, as I can’t wait to see where we go from here.
This has a bit of an action-adventure feel, with magic, witches, wizards, a horrible virus, magical realms, romance, danger, dramatic developments, mystery, a touch of destiny, suspense, conflict, politics, and fantastic world-building.
We meet Wilf, who is a wizard who prefers soccer than have anything to do with magic. But as a potent virus start affecting the witch population- hitting close to home when his friend falls victim to it too. He has inherited a journal from he father that holds the key to the cure, so Wilf will need to put aside his fears and find a way to unlock the spell and save his friend before it’s too late.
A fantastic start to the series. This ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so things are set to continue in Book #2, The Veil of Corruption. Bring it on!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, C.B. Lyall!

What a terrific first book to this exciting trilogy! Wilf is a 16 year old soccer player that just wants to live like a normal kid. Unfortunately, not gonna happen, he’s sucked into the world of wizards and witches. He has to save the witches from a horrid virus going around. I found the characters amazing. The development and detail put in took so much time. They are so accurately described and easy to picture. I found the drama and adventure to be exciting and engaging. This is edge of your seat action. You have to know what’s coming up. The plot fs well laid out and flows smoothly. Great YA book and even for us older people into fantasy books. I can’t wait to start the next one.

This book certainly had the wow factor going strong. The book mesmerized me as I read, and I could not put it down. I was intrigued all the way through. The book gave so much! Amazing read!

I loved the take on the story that this book held. I always loved contents of magic and witches. The issue with the witches in the book, was very intriguing and something I have never had the pleasure to read on. The author wrote and created good and strong characters, that were all different, but greatly added to the story I was intrigued and held with my own suspense all the way through! Loved it!

Great and amazing read. It was different, which made it more awesome. I was pulled in and kept in suspense as I read! Greatly enjoyed it! Highly recommend this author and book without a doubt!
