This book will invoke all kinds of emotions. I found myself all over the place and a couple of times I had to put it down for a brief moment to just breathe. This book is listed as a young adult book but does come with a warning that it’s not intended for anyone under eighteen due to the sensitive nature of the topics that are covered. This book will stick with me for awhile.

Logan (Lo) has a great life with a mom who loves him dearly. At the tender age of seven, he begins to learn that not everyone has life so great.

Victoria (Vic) lives with her step-dad. Her mom died recently and she’s stuck with Zach. He doesn’t seem to care much about her at all. He spends most of his time in a drunken stupor. Vic lives next door to Lo and one day invites him over to play.

This story is told from both perspectives of Vic and Lo, starting in the past and building up to the present. This story is very dark and deals with extremely difficult topics. The things that Vic especially, endures are horrific and terrifying. I just want to hug them both and let them know everything will be ok.

I don’t want to say much more because I don’t want to spoil anything. However, it’s only fair to warn readers that this book does contain very strong language and scenes/situations that are not appropriate for immature readers. I do look forward to learning more about Lizzie’s story and what’s going on with her.

This is a dark emotional romance about 2 friends who fell in love and despite all the odds are determined to be together. This is the first book in the Berrycreek Heights series and I can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for us.
This is a dark story that deals with violence, abuse, danger, agendas, love and obsession.
Victoria has had a horrible childhood. Her mother passed leaving her with her mother’s boyfriend. He is a nasty piece of work and treats Victoria appallingly.
When Logan meets her there is an instant connection. Right from the start he feels a need to protect her and make sure no harm comes to her. As they grow together their friendship turns to romance and Logan realises that he will protect Victoria no matter what the cost or what he has to do to insure her safety.
When Victoria and her step-dad disappear this causes Logan to spiral down a dark hole as he tries everything to find her and when he eventually does hearing her story almost breaks him. It takes a lot of strength for him to keep control of his emotions and be there for the girl he loves.
This is a very emotional dark romance with some subjects that maybe triggering to some people. It is a story that will grip you and I couldn’t put it down until i reached the end. I can’t wait to see what the author produces next.

I love how the author switches between the main character’s point of view, especially how in sync the timing according to years ago and becoming less and less years as you read on. I also like each of the character’s development. The story does flow really well and has some unexpected turns of events.

This book was much more intense and dark than I had expected going into it. I hadn’t read the blurb or any reviews and, based off the title alone, I was expecting a light hearted YA romance. And yet this book is the opposite of that and so much more. I felt like I went through a rollercoaster of emotions when reading this book and I loved watching how it all played out.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and this has all the markings of an amazing series. I was pulled into the story easily and I thought it was well developed. This is a great book and I am looking forward to the next.

This story is breathtakingly intense. I didn’t realize several times that I was holding my breath. I found the POV from the beginning with both Logan and Victoria to be exciting and adrenaline producing. They were sweet kids. Annie was making sure Vic was taken care of. Poor Vic had the worst stepfather, a total douche, that had a goal of hurting her. The romance that built between Logan and Vic is one built on friendship and a bit of “white knight” syndrome. It’s an incredible story full of drama, romance, suspense and a bit of mafia. It will fill most any need you have. The tone is kind of dark but unfortunately, mafia and trafficking are. The story is relatable as are the characters. I wasn’t sure how this was going to be because of the topic but it really is a 5 star read that you should check out. One of the best romantic suspense I’ve read this year.

I loved this story. It was very emotional from the first sentence. I did get a bit confused and frustrated towards the three quarters of the way mark in the story. But this book will take you on a ride, full of twists, heartaches, hope, and so much more. Logan and Victoria’s love is so much more than anyone could ever want. To hold out so long for one person will break your heart and fix it all in one.

Logan Lancaster grew up next to Victoria. Knowing Victoria is being abused by her stepfather Zach, Logan vows to keep her protected. Years pass and Victoria is hurt time and time again, even as Logan threatens Zach nothing changes. Zach threatens to take Victoria away but Logan stays close to Victoria until one day she disappears without a trace. Logan spends the next twelve years trying to find Victoria, but when he does will she still be the girl he remembers?

I liked both characters, Logan is fully focused on finding Victoria again This was a bit different then what I was expecting, a bit darker. I think overall it was an entertaining read.

The Finding is the first book in the Berrycreek Heights series and debut novel by A.M. Porto. This is a superb YA/NA romantic suspense with dark tones, tragedy, secrets, pain, heartache, danger, agendas, intrigue, emotion, twists, chemistry, violence, obsession, and more.
There are some darker subject matters/themes through the story that might be triggering for some readers, so if you have triggers, please be aware of this before diving in…
This book grabbed me right from the get-go, and when I was done, I went looking for more from the author, as I hadn’t read anything by them before…. and was even more impressed to discover that this is the authors debut novel. I wasn’t expecting something so engrossing and polished to be a debut novel. If this compelling book is anything to go by, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of A.M. Porto’s work in the future.
Expect an emotional walloping from this thrilling story.
Looking forward to more from the author!
Happy Reading…

This is the first book in the Berrycreek Heights series and the first I know of from this author. Please be aware of the triggers before reading this book as there are themes present which may not be suitable for everyone.

This book is dark, but I loved it. It was written well, and the plot is different from anything I’ve read recently. It has stayed with me even after finishing it and I’m sure it will be that way for a while.
It’s suspenseful and has you unable to tear your eyes away with the need to know what happens next. There were points I genuinely didn’t know what the outcome would be and I was so emotionally invested, I wasn’t sure I could handle it.
This book was able to play on my emotions more than I initially expected and I’m so impressed by that as although I get emotionally invested, I don’t usually get physically emotional in the way this book affected me.

I can’t wait for the second book of the series is it’s going to be even half as good as this one.

The Finding is A.M. Porto’s debut novel and the first book in her Berrycreek Heights Series. This is a romantic YA thriller A.M. takes us to a dark and twisted world full of emotions.
This gripping story is one of true love, obsession, and the desperate search for a missing love. We see abuse, violence and malice we are taken on a journey with unexpected twists into the depths of human immorality.
Where things that nightmares are made of reside there is so much evil, pain, suffering, lies, heartbreak, hopelessness and depravity. Logan is determined to find her no matter how long it takes or what the cost.
It is also a look at the emotional toll and effects on one’s psyche.
The writing draws you in and it is hard to put down because you just want to know what is going to happen. I was on the end of my seat and the tension was palpable.
I highly recommend reading this emotional thriller.

A.M. Porto is an author to watch.

The Finding (Berrycreek Heights Series Book 1) by A. M. Porto. This is a great, very emotional young adult read. Its the story of Victoria and Logan who meet at a very young age and fall in love quite young as well. Logan is determined to protect Victoria at all costs but doesn’t realize how severe the abuse is. Everyone knows how horrible the situation is but are not sure what to do about it, they are just kids. The Finding (Berrycreek Heights, #1)The Finding by A.M. Porto
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Finding is the first book in the Berrycreek Heights series. It is a YA thriller that centers around the characters of Victoria and Logan and told from each of their POV. The two first met when Victoria was five years old, and Logan was aged seven. The two were neighbors and became fast friends, spending almost all their time together. Victoria’s mom passed away when she was young, and she was left with her abusive, alcoholic stepfather Zach. As Victoria got older, she reminded Zach more and more of her mom and he became increasingly more violent towards her. Logan swore to protect her but when the unthinkable happens he feels tremendous guilt, sadness, and remorse for being unable to protect Victoria when she needed him the most. Twelve years go by, and Logan has never stopped thinking about Victoria or what happened to her. He has never stopped looking and vows to seek out justice for those responsible. Will Logan ever find out what really happened to Victoria?

The author did a phenomenal job with this story, and it captured my attention from the first few pages. I was riveted by the storyline and unable to put it down until I completed it. The characters are wonderfully written, lovable, and relatable. Victoria is sweet, kind, loving, smart, and courageous. The abuse that she suffers at the hands of her stepfather and numerous others is deplorable and unimaginable. It made me cringe to read as she was subjected to horrific things that no person should ever have to endure. Yet, despite it all she never gives up and continues going. Victoria is a fighter who never gives up hope and looks to a brighter future away from the abuse and cruelty. Logan is sweet, kind, loving, and courageous. He has loved Victoria since practically the first moment he met her. He made it his mission to protect her from harm and keep her safe. When Logan feels that he failed at that he vows to find out what happened to her. After twelve years he never gives up, even though many others would have given up searching for answers. It was heartbreaking to think about how helpless Logan felt to protect the woman he loved and how he felt that he had let her down. It is heartwarming to see that the love between Victoria and Logan still holds strong no matter the time or distance. Their story really pulled at my heartstrings, and it took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Their story was filled with love, loss, betrayal, grief, sorrow, abuse, tragedy, drama, and suspense. I seriously cannot recommend this book enough! Looking forward to reading more by this author!

The Master of Demise by Nadija Mujagic – Review by Jessie Hopkins

This book sucks you in from the very first sentence and keeps you there for the entire book. The characters and storyline are intriguing the entire way through.
Mitch is going through so many things in every aspect of his life that it feels like he just can’t win and right when you think you have it figured out for him, there is another curveball. All eyes are on him, a few times, for different yet similar reasons and you just aren’t sure who to believe. Living in a small town, near his wife’s close knit family, has him feeling even more alone as they drift from him as well as everything he has worked so hard for.

This is a great read!

I loved Trapping the Butterfly by Debra Parmley! The characters are believable and relatable. It’s a super easy read, and hard to put down! I read this in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down. There was romance, exploration, danger and excitement but I would say still appropriate even for mature YA readers. Set in prohibition times, Bethany’s overprotective guardians (aunt and uncle) are determined to continue managing their niece (and her inheritance) by arranging a marriage with an unsavory business partner. While vacationing at the hot springs, Bethany unknowingly befriends a woman who is caught up with a gangster working closely with Al Capone. As she catches the eye of another gangster, Bethany is caught between the excitement and newness of this dangerous world and the safety of her new friend, Paul, a detective undercover watching the mobs activities.

Cabin Eight is the third in the Millersville series by Susan Specht Oram. Like the other two books, this standalone suspense/thriller was a fairly quick read. It was an intense, fast paced story about a woman named Miranda who stays in Cabin Eight, despite warnings, after she mistakenly starts a fire at the hotel she worked at. The writing and descriptions were super vivid when describing scenery, as well as the phobias and fears that Miranda overcomes throughout the book. The clown aspect gave me the shivers because I do NOT do clowns. At all. Phew. All in all, this may have been my favorite of the three.

I went into this book thinking it was going to be as riveting as the first in the series. I was slightly disappointed but I decided to stick with reading it because I wanted to know what happened next. It was fast paced and different than what I was excepting. The characters were quirkier and had more humorous personalities than those in Shore Lodge, which was nice. It was just hard to stay on track with the POVs of the two sets of characters going back and forth.

This author is one of my favorites! The first two books in the Millersville series were so well written and full of suspense-so much so that I jumped at the chance to read this book. Our main character has had some tough times occur in her life and the book starts with her and a fire. Now since she started the fire over a very silly mistake…she was trying to cover up a secret from her past. Well not only did she start a fire in a motel and destroy the room and a couple nearby, she failed to heal the pain of her past mistake! Well her kind mom is so supportive and sends her on a trip just to get away. Little did they know the true story behind cabin eight! I don’t want to give it away but just know that curiosity killed the cat! As usual, I’m looking forward to the next gem of literature from the author!

I think I read this whole series out of order but even so I did not feel lost in any way. All three books in this series may be read as a standalone as they all deal with different characters and problems. In this story Jacklyn has just lost her husband to a heart attack. While working her way through he grief she finds that her husband had given their son a substantial amount of money to make his dreams a reality. They owned a flower shop together which she must now take care of, but with her world crumbling down around her how will she survive? She has no safety net for herself and must keep the shop in order to recoup the money that was given away. Her children talk her into going to a retreat but she soon realizes she has been duped and is actually in a psychiatric facility. Will she be able to prove that she is mentally stable and save her home and business? I enjoyed this book, but man did Dusty make me mad. Having a little perspective from working in the Healthcare field I get why he just wanted to put her somewhere rather than deal with his mother. His sister, Rose, just wanted what was best for Jacklyn and to help but her hands were tied. Dusty definitely had some underlying ulterior motives. I know it’s a work of fiction but I couldn’t help getting worked up. Overall though it was another good book by the author.

This is book two in the Millerville series but can be read as a standalone. Even though the story takes place in the same city/town the characters and circumstances are different. Jasmine’s father is diagnosed with a rare lung disease and she is determined to come up with the cash that could potentially save his life. She decides that turning to a life of crime is the easiest way to go but is robbed blind by some bogus officers. Time is running out quickly and she must find a way to make all that money back plus some. What will her plan of action be? And will she be able to get the money in time? This book really does make you question what you will do and how far you’d be willing to go to save your loved one if you have the chance. I don’t think most people would choose to become criminals, but in a world of fiction anything is possible. This was a fun fast paced read and I’m glad I jumped into the series.

This book started out a bit on the odd side for me but as I turned the pages I was hooked. After having set a motel room on fire, and damaging several other, Miranda finds herself at a resort. While there she comes to realize that she has been set up and nothing is as it seems. There is a whole underground operation going on and she is one of the latest test subjects. They have a huge advantage over here since they know everything about her life from the tragedy that happened in her younger year up to the point we read about in the book. She must face her past as well as her fears if she is to find her way out. The question is will she be able to do that? I did enjoy this book. While I felt it started out a bit slow for me it did get better and it kept me turning the pages.

This was an incredible book! I can count on one hand the number of books that keep me engaged and on my toes, and this is definitely one of them. With all the twists and turns, I couldn’t guess what was going to happen next which usually comes naturally for me! The flow of the story can feel a little disjointed at times, but I think it added to the feel of this psychological thriller. I liked this entire series, but this one was definitely my favorite. It was full of suspense and had me on the edge of my seat trying to uncover what would happen to Miranda. I highly recommend picking up this series, and when you make it to this book, you’ll understand what I’m raving about!

This was an interesting storyline in a series that keeps you guessing where the author will go next. This follows the story of Miranda, who has experienced trauma and a series of unfortunate events that have gotten her in to trouble, gets away to reset and process these events. This getaway is not what she expects and she soon finds herself being tested in new, twisted ways.

Overall this was an intriguing and completely unexpected storyline, which is something I’ve been accustomed to with this author. The action starts immediately into the book and continues all the way through, making this and engaging and quick read. It’s definitely a different type of psychological thriller than I would say is typical, but engaging overall.

This story while part of a series can be read by itself and it still makes sense. I really liked the story but felt like something was missing. At times first person presence tense made it hard to read but over all it wasn’t bad!

Cabin Eight (The Millersville Series Book 3) by Susan Specht Oram – Review by Rebeca Elliott Figueiras

Cabin Eight (The Millersville series)Cabin Eight by Susan Specht Oram
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reading this series, I’ve realised that they can all be read at standalones as they each have a different focus.

As with the earlier books in the series, this one is full of suspense and twists. The characters are yet again written well, and the plot is great.

Miranda is the main character, grieving a friend and searching for peace as many do, unknowingly getting herself deeper into danger. Her strength in fighting and way of thinking kept me rooting for her survival as she progressed.

I became fully immersed into this original story, wishing for Miranda’s success and genuinely fearing for her safety and the minor events became increasingly dangerous.

I hope to read more from this author in future!
