I really enjoyed this story. The author does an amazing job of bringing Aztec mythology to life and the attention to detail really brought the whole story to life. The author’s descriptions about the Aztecs way of life and beliefs was very interesting to read. The beautiful drawings that were also included in this story just added to the creative feel and experience.

Azreya is a young girl who is considered cursed by one of the God’s. To help her she is sent at the age of 3 to stay with a sharman who is going to teach her how to calm the beast inside her.
Things go well until a visitor arrives that causes Azreya to flee her safe haven.
However when she returns to her family they don’t want to take her in for fear of what this “cursed” person could do.
While Azreya is having visions of the future she sees that her people are in great danger from an enemy. Can she make her people listen to her and protect themselves or will they ignore her warnings and have to face the consequences.

This is a story of pain and betrayal when you realise the person you thought you could trust turns out to be someone you can’t trust at all. It’s also a story of courage as Azreya fights to stand by her visions and what she has seen to protect her people and save them from disaster.

Azreya is a young girl born with a mark on her hand and a demon inside her. Her parents are convinced that she needs to be turned over to their priest, Nukpana, by age of three to protect them from her. They turn her over and expect to see her again, however, that is not what happens. Once they turn her over, Nukpana takes over her training and her life. As she grows, she begins to realize that he is just using her to increase his standing in the community. When Nukpana decides to only share part of Azreya’s vision concerning the Spanish and the Aztecs, she realizes that she must take matters into her own hands and runs away. But at the young age of 13, how will she convince others to take her seriously? Who can she trust? Will she be able to bring the Aztecs together in order to stand against the Spanish in time?

First of all, I really like this author! The characters are well written, and the story was like a movie playing in my head. I enjoyed learning about the Aztec culture and gods while reading about a girl that just wants to be loved. She’s thrown into a life she didn’t choose and is doing her best to keep the balance between an angry beast inside of her and the real-world struggles that surround her. She does find that balance and it was fascinating to read how she does.

zreya, Aztec Priestess: An Illustrated Mythology Legend by Tricia Copeland, Illustrated by Matt Maes. This is a great young adult story about mythology and paranormal fantasy. Its the story of Azreya a Aztec Princess who has been put into the custody of a shaman, Nukpana who is supposed to help her learn how to use her powers and to tame the beast inside of her. The only problem is Nukpana is not her friend and can not be trusted. It is thought that Azreya is cursed and that is the reason she has the beast inside her. If that demon inside her somehow takes over she will die. So learning how to contain it is crucial. Azreya’s one goal is to help her people so learning to control herself is imperative. I love this author and her writing is so descriptive that you feel as if you are there. Such a good young adult paranormal read!

I love mythology books and this one does not disappoint. Azreya is a curious, yet intelligent child that is Cursed by the Tepeyollotli at birth. Her parents, with the guidance of a shaman named Nukpana decided to leave her with the Shaka so he can help her beat the demon within her.
Although Nukpana teaches Azreya everything she knows, he is no friend to her and she ends up on her own with the knowledge that the Spanish are going to invade her land and if she doesn’t get all of the Aztecs to fight as one her people and her culture will be destroyed.

Wow, what a great and fascinating story!! It was a nice change of pace for me and a wonderful surprise of a story as I sat and was totally engrossed in this world of mythology and fantasy and followed along with Azreya and her journey.

Azreya’s journey starts when she is little…..originally thought to be “cursed”. Her family invests into a shaman to help, Nukpana. As Nukpana helps Azreya understand her gifts, she also has to learn to tame her inner beast. Not all what it seems to Azreya, as she wants to protect her Aztec people and also is deceived by those around her.

Wonderful story and captured me right from the beginning. I also loved the beginning glossary of the Aztec words (so I know what they mean) and the illustrations as it gave me a sense of the characters in the story. Well Done and Highly Recommended!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 Stars!

This is an interesting story that contains some parts that are based on the mythology from the Aztec people. A young girl is born with what some believe to be a curse but there are those who understand and know the truth. As we watch Azreya grow and learn we see the strength she finds in herself. Her story is one of survival and belief. Lessons are learned and friendships made. Azreya’s life has its ups and downs as she learns to use her gifts. Those that enjoy YA and mythology will not be disappointed in this book. The story moves at a good pace and is full of adventure with a depth of characters and meaning.

I’m not sure exactly what I expected from this series but the book I started reading was not it. This is a rich story, detailed and complex, steeped in mythological history. The illustrations are absolutely magnificent and compliment the book entirely.
The story itself is such an interesting one to read. The author paints such a vivid picture that you can picture it all so clearly. I was so easily lost within the pages, consumed by the story unfolding. This is a fantastic book that I think everyone should read.

Azreya, Aztec Princess: An Illustrated Mythology Legend by Tricia Copeland is a wonderful illustrated historical fantasy interwoven with mythology, mysticism, and gives a window into the Aztec culture, daily life, and their religion- with beautiful illustrations which help to bring this story to life. This adventure is really well-woven, as expected from this talented author, and I love the mysteriousness and intrigue that came with all the Aztec elements.
The scene-setting and world-building are first-rate! Ms. Copeland’s attention to detail, clever and imaginative touches, and wonderfully descriptive details succeeded in pulling me into the story and making me feel like I was right there experiencing everything alongside the characters.
As I have discovered previously, Ms. Copeland is a talented author who never fails to deliver a complex and captivating story. Matt Maes beautiful, bright, and intriguing illustrations definitely helped to take this story to the next level.
Hope to see these two talented people collaborate again!

5 stars!

I really enjoyed this book. I love books based on mythology and legends from different countries. It is sad that Azreya had to go through what she does with her family, especially her parents. Being so advanced due to her being “cursed” with the demon Tepeyollotl, she can understand everything that is said and done around her from an early age. She knows she has to leave her parents and she knows there is a possibility that the demon will overtake her and destroy, but it seemed to me her parents and unfortunately Nukpana teach her how to tame the best inside. Nukpana, wow, I despise him so much, his thoughts and actions are evil, I don’t like to hope for anything bad to happen to anyone, but this fictional character, I did. When her glimpses of the future come to fruition, I sat reading with my lips pursed in a “take that” and “you should have listened” form. I hoped that every king and person Azreya encountered, that she shared her reading of the future with, were looking back and wishing they would have listened. I was happy with the ending. Azreya did lose her family but gained a new one, and it seems like and I hope she is happy.

I found this story to be very interesting and quite intriguing. Azreya is a mythological story of a priestess who grows up to watch over her people. She leads an amazing life and has many challenges. The facts included by the author help to understand the story. It feels like South American folklore/mythology. The writing keeps you wanting more because you find yourself waning to know what’s going to happen next as Azreya undergoes tests. The illustrations fit well into the story. This author is one of my favorites as she tries many new things. I hope she does more this way. I will be using this book as reading with my kiddo’s schooling as he gets older. Well done, loved it!

For any fans of epic fantasy and beautifully created worlds, you will NEVER go wrong with a book by Tricia Copeland. This book and series is very familiar to me and I was excited to be able to listen to a favorite. The story came to life in a brand new way and allowed me to thoroughly enjoy the story and universe powerfully. The narration only added to the richness of the story development. This was a great listen. Took a road trip and listen to this epic story. It pulled me in immediately and had my senses on alert. This story has it all family drama, love and bravery. Looking forward to listening or read more from this author. Just love how the author paints you an amazing story.

To be a Fae Guardian (Realm Chronicles Book 2) Audio Book by Tricia Copeland – Review by Amanda Glaspie

This was an interesting listen as Titania battles to determine who she can trust while also containing locusts that threaten her kingdom. I have read/listened to the first book but I found that not to be an issue. The author did a good job of referencing the first book and giving a quick background. I did find that the book jumped around and glossed over details or focused on details that were not as important but overall I enjoyed the book. I find myself rooting for strong female characters, especially when their differences are highlighted and focused on trying to make them appear as bad. Titania is a strong character who proves her worth through her actions.

This was a fantastic audio book and one that I really enjoyed listening to. The authors writing together with the wonderful narration really brought this story to life. I could easily imagine everything that I was listening to. The character Tatiana was so amazing – I loved listening to her story. I really felt her emotions at times and I felt really connected to her as a character. The author did an amazing job with creating the fantasy land that this series takes place in and her wonderful attention to detail makes it so believable to read. I would highly recommend this audio book and I can’t wait to listen to more from this author in the future!

To be a Fae Guardian (Realm Chronicles Book 2) Audio Book by Tricia Copeland – Review by Bobbi Wagner

This is my first audiobook by this author.  I really enjoyed listening to it.  I look forward to listening to more by this author.  I enjoyed how the narrator was able to pull me into the story by using different tones of voice.   It also helped keep the story engaging.  The characters  took me on an adventure of magic and evil spirits.   They are not only connectable and the narrator gave life to the story. This is a story of a journey to Middle Earth and a race of survival to save all from darkness.  I highly recommend this audiobook and this author.

~Journey to Middle Earth with a Fae Queen~

This is my second time through this book. I read the kindle versions first, but when I saw the audible come out I knew I had to try it out. Titania is such a force to be reckoned with. The story is strongly gripping, and I can easily see that Titania and her entourage have done some major development in their adventures so far.

I had a hard time listening through the audible, but I gave it 5 stars because it’s probably personal preference. I found the audio to be monotone, a little difficult to hear the words and not just the lyrical cadence of the narrator. It’s possible that reading through it myself the first read through, I was picturing the inflection going a little differently for Titania. Overall though a very thorough performance on this fantasy journey.

Titania goes through so much, is so level headed, and well rounded. Truly a hero! If you are questioning picking up this series, you won’t be disappointed. Fae, Middle Earth, strong companionship, difficult choices, a kingdom in need of justice only a young heroine can redeem!!! What more could you ask for in a fantastical journey to Middle Earth?

This story is so packed full of action, adventure, suspense, and intrigue. Titania is one of my favorite fantasy characters. She is badass and strong by putting her kingdom and people before everything else. She really isn’t afraid to break laws to protect people. This is book 2 of the series and continues Titania’s adventures of dealing with consequences of trying to protect the kingdom. Now one person is facing those consequences. Can she save him and her kingdom? She has so much pressure all around her and secrets to hide. The author does a great job in writing her and developing the plot around her struggles. It’s been a delight to listen this story. I’ve enjoyed going through and hearing Titania battle through and get what she needs. I have read this story but to listen to it on audio gives it a whole new level of comprehension because you can picture it, listen and basically create your own picture in your mind. It’s another level of imagination. The narrator did a great job of changing the voices around and giving excitement to the story. She kept the story going. I really enjoyed the story. Everything came together and made it all work.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A terribly young queen with insight far beyond her tender age of 16 years old saves a realm and then is condemned for it.
She struggles knowing her instincts are right, but a council consisting of a different generation of fae can’t see things the way she does.
She perseveres despite some heart lurching goodbyes and she learns not to trust so quickly, except in her own decisions.
She makes one hard decision after another but continues above all else to put the realm and her kingdom before herself. Will she regain trust in herself? Can she erase self doubt? Can she protect a realm that doesnt seem to want her protection? Can she mend her tender young broken heart?
This series is addictive and is a can’t miss for Fae lovers. The narration adds so much to this story with inflection and personality to the characters as well.
