I really enjoyed this book a lot. I love vampire lore and this book had some different mythological aspects to it. Brining in the significance of the solstice as well as a trinity of players was a really interesting touch. I really liked the fiesty creature that Alena is and how she searching for answers to the questions she is not yet privy to have resolution for. I like her relationship with Hunter and really thought the twist at the end was good. I would love to dive more into her story, her relationship with her mother and what’s to come in the next 6 months as she prepares to turn 18. I would definitely read more by this author.

I enjoy novels about vampires and witches, so Tricia Copeland’s novel Kingdom of Embers hit the mark for me. Because vampire lore and stories have been around for years, it is always exciting to be introduced to a new take on that lore. Tricia Copeland has created a vibrant world and a really intriguing story. Alena’s story has adventure and was exciting to read. I look forward to reading the next chapter of this series.

Oh my god! This is the second book I’ve read of Tricia’s. To be a fae queen was the first. I am hooked. I believe I have a new favorite author. The excitement I had learning about Alena was unreal. I went through every emotion with her. My anticipation for what comes next is through the roof. Alena is such an amazing character. If you love the supernatural, young adult, or fantasy stories I highly recommend these books and this author. I’m off to go read the next book.

Kingdom of Embers is a fresh twist on the typical paranormal story. A hybrid child, Alena struggles to be as normal a teenager as possible, and Tricia Copeland did a fantastic job portraying that fight for balance. There’s a unique world that’s been built, and everything worked so well together. The story has an amazing attention to detail. Everything flowed so wonderfully, and I found myself invested rather quickly. Kingdom of Embers is the first book I’ve read from Ms. Copeland, but it certainly isn’t the last.

Tricia, you did it again!! This is another amazing series already! You have Alena Scott, Half Vampire Half Witch, who has to hide that fact from the world while living among humans and going to school with them. She meets new friends, as well as an old friend who she thought was her imagination. From there, we then escalate to more scenarios where she goes and meets vampires that help her belong as well as learning spells to help her on her witch side. In the background, a war is brewing, and now they have a lot on their plate. The Drama, love, family and friendship in this story is already so great and I can tell just the beginning! I can’t wait to finish this series!! 🙂

This was a great YA paranormal story. I loved the author’s writing, it really drags you into the story and doesn’t let go. The main character of Alena is really well written. She is a very strong and determined character. I like the mixture of paranormal characters and how they are all connected. The story is full of mystery and discovery.

All Alena  wants is to be a normal teenage girl, however that isn’t possible. As a half vampire/half witch hybrid she isn’t even supposed to exist. When she is moved to another new school by her mother she has to try and act like a normal girl which isn’t easy with the complications of making new friends, her new feelings towards a human boy and finding out that her imaginary friend wasn’t imaginary at all.

Things get even more complicated as Alena and Hunter search for answers to why they are connected and how leading them on a journey of discovery which leads them to discover the answer to an ancient curse.

Well what is there to say about Kingdom of Embers by Tricia Copeland….. hmmm.
Well for starters I couldn’t put it down. I loved everything about it, but the end. It felt rushed, but in saying that I can’t wait for book 2.
Alena, a hybrid witch-vampire, a forbidden creature that needs to be kept hidden. Does everything she can to act as normal as possible to those around her. Her dynamic with football player Nick felt forced. Her dynamic with Hunter though was amazing. There’s a lot more in store for these two in the future.
The character development is crazy good, and again I loved every minute of this book but the end. I wish I could read book 2 right now because this is definitely a series I’m going to follow and read more than once!

Hogwarts, Narnia, Forks, Alicante?? The City of Angels takes on the mysterious bent given to magical places! A supernatural coming of age book that is a mystical mix of everything we love about other supernatural novels. Alena, an almost 18 year old, vampire witch hybrid is rebellious, determined and a cool character. Although I believe there is way more to her than meets the eye. She is the perfect heroine for this series. Blending modern day teenage angst with ancient mythology like rules, author Tricia Copeland once again brings us such clear imagery it is as if we are there watching it happen instead of reading it.
I love fantasy type stories and this one is a great start to what is bound to be an amazing series. One of those series that has readers saying “I wish they would turn this into a 9 hour long movie not missing any details so I could watch this again and again.”
Bravo to the author!! Bravo!!

Kingdom of Embers (Kingdom Journals #1)Kingdom of Embers by Tricia Copeland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kingom of Embers is a YA paranormal mystery romance. Alena is a forbidden creation, half witch and half vampire. When she starts her senior year at a new school she discovers that her imaginary friend from childhood is actually real. The two come together to try to figure out how this is possible and why it happened. Along the way secrets that Alena’s mother hid from her are discovered, a destiny is unfolded and  a dangerous threat that could start a war is exposed.

I do not usually enjoy YA books anymore. I just find it hard to relate to them. However, I took the chance anyway and I am glad that I did. Even though there is high school drama that is created by other students Alena is very mature for her age and I feel like that balanced it out. I loved the mystery behind the book. Like who her father is, why Alena and Chase were “imaginary friends” and what her mother has been searching for.

I did feel like the plot was rushed a bit. There were points where it lagged in build up to the that to me didn’t seem to happen until the last chapter. This book ends on a huge cliffhhanger that gave me the chills! I’m excited to start book two and really get things started.

What an absolute pleasure it was to discover a novel that was so much more than just a YA paranormal romance. Keeping in mind that I accepted ahead of time that I am more than just a bit too old to be considered as part of the target audience, I enjoyed this book so much more than I predicted. Main character Alena is part of the forbidden race of witch-vampire hybrids. As far as she knows, she is the only one of her kind. Alena’s life becomes exceedingly challenging as she struggles to balance classic high school drama and romance, with her blossoming powers and paranormal abilities. The storyline developed at a nice pace, the ending will blow your mind, and leave you unable to wait to begin the next book in the series.

This is a young adult fantasy novel. It is about witches and vampires yet is unique in its approach to them. Alena Scott is half witch/ half vampire; a forbidden breed. She is raised by her mother who is the vampire chancellor. She is raised with the knowledge to assimilate into human society. Unfortunately with her weird diet, pale skin and being the new girl in school, she sticks out like a sore thumb. Trying to make friends and hiding what she is is proving to be difficult. Being a teenager with her hormones out of whack, there are times when she literally wants to rip someone’s throat out. There are so many secrets that she longs to uncover concerning her missing father and her powers. Meeting her childhood imaginary friend in the flesh, they work together to figure things out.

I think that this is an amazing start to this series. Although I was frustrated to know more details about Alena, the author threw out enough crumbs to keep me interested. There was intrigue, action and mystery. I enjoyed the fact that the main character wasn’t some all powerful being. I have a feeling that her powers will grow throughout the series and that’s how it should be. I’m so happy that she acted age appropriate. Alena is an inexperienced seventeen year old who I’m thrilled didn’t jump into bed right away with someone. She had the same questions and feelings that we all lived through at one point. I loved this book and look forward to reading more of this world that Ms. Copeland created.

Alena is a hybrid of a vampire and a witch. She is getting ready to turn 18, when she will be a responsible adult in all worlds (vampire, human and witch.) She is currently living in her mother’s overprotective world and trying to imagine her future but her mother, being overprotective, won’t let her do anything like date or hang out with friends.
When she runs into her imaginary friend from childhood at the library, Alena embarks on a mission to see what is going on. What has her mother been searching for? Who is her father? Why did they leave LA and her (imaginary?) friend behind.
Opinion
Sit down and buckle in for this book. I will have to warn you that the chapters are long but SOOOO worth the read. I am a huge fan of anything paranormal and this book fits the bill perfectly. The mystery behind what Alena’s mom is hiding kept me intrigued but what kept me wanting to read more was the day to day problems of being a teenager. This book is well worth the read.

I have enjoyed every book that I have picked up by Tricia Copeland! Her writing draws me in and keeps me wanting to know more about the characters and the storyline.

Alena is a sheltered half vampire, half-witch. Her mother keeps her scheduled and pretty much on lock down, but as this is her senior year in high school, her mother lightens up a bit. She begins to see the world around her in a different light as she makes new acquaintances and new friends. Shockingly enough, her new friends include an imaginary friend that she discovers is actually very real. As a struggle between the witches and the vampires begin to escalate, Alena finds out who her true friends are and which ones she needs to keep close. But will that be enough to save her, her family and friends, and mankind?

Ms. Copeland does a wonderful job writing believable characters with normal teenage angst, emotions, and challenges that they face with friends and family. I appreciate that she doesn’t over sexualize their feelings, uses clean language, and keeps the plot plausible -as much as you can with paranormal!

All in all, I really liked this book and will be looking for Book 2 to read next!

The characters are developed so well that you feel like you know them personally… I can’t wait to read the other books in this series so that I can find out what happens to the third side of the imaginary friend triangle… This book has some serious issues in it that make it more than just a romance novel… it has issues that real teens deal with in real life… I love how the author was able to add that in this book…. Where is ivy and what happened to her is my question now! Time for the next book!!!

Wow, amazing…I so enjoyed this book. This YA Fantasy is just a great read espcially if you love stories with vampires, witches, magic and secrets. Having to move to yet another new school, especially her senior year, Alena, who is half witch half vampire, is trying to finish out school and graduate. Her mother is strict, being cautious at every turn, is a Vampire Chancellor . Alena has questions to her mother on who her father is and when or if she can meet him. As the story unfolds, Alena embarks on a journey to reverse an ancient spell as she may hold ultimate key to reverse. I could go on about this book but do not want to give any spoilers out! This story is truly fantastic and if you love fantasy with a twist of vampires I recommend this book HIGHLY!

I truly must say that this is a must read! I am a die hard vampire fanatic, but this ne certainly was a refreshing take on a vampire story, in the sense it was different, but still impacting and powerful all in its own. The story with the characters itself was compelling, and it was very much a page turner for me!

I am a die hard vampire fan as I said yes. Did I also mention I heavily love anything with witches? So reading this book I was getting some of my fandoms all rolled into one in a very positive way for enjoyment. I will admit reading, I thought I had an idea how this story would go and develop! I was way off! There was so much more. I loved really seeing the character Alena become who she was destined to be, in her growth! Two worlds, one soul to put it simply. She was mesmerizing as a character and someone you could really feel for, and find a connection with. Loved her character personally

Alena had a lot going on, two worlds of vampire and witch and trying to basically make it though high school, and that is hard enough without vampire and witch relatedness thrown into the mix. I loved the story and the romantic side of it was a great addition as well. I loved the take on this story and how relatable and intriguing it was all in one. I was constantly reading and going through my pages. I was under this book’s spell and I didn’t want to be let go. For me, it was amazing and this is a must read!

If you are like me and enjoy the paranormal I think you will for sure find love for this amazing book. The writing from this talented author for sure makes you get that connection for the characters you are reading about as well as being intrigued with the world and the magic. Its a recommended read for sure!

Love vampires? Witches? Love triangles? This story is for you. Meet Alena – a vampire/witch hybrid that despite her DNA, is your typical teenager in her senior year of highschool. She leads a double life – split between school with mortals and her vampire life at hom. Not only is she super sheltered by her mom in order to keep her witch side a secret as she learns to navigate the magical world, she’s also on the cheerleading squad at a new school acting like a normal human. Balancing school, homework, boys, and her home vampire/witch studies – she also discovers that she may be more important than her mother has led her to believe when she meets her childhood imaginary friend who has grown up to be distractingly handsome.

Trying to be normal when you are not has it’s own consequences. This is the crux of this interesting fantasy, Kingdom of Embers. Alena is a unique 17 year old girl, a hybrid, half vampire, half witch. Her mother is a Vampire and the identity of her father is unknown. She keeps moving from place to place because of her mother’s job. Now at senior year, with an absentee father and typical teen problems, roller coaster emotions, Alena has a lot on her plate. This is Alena’s journey in her school, her friendships and how she tries to gel in with the rest of her friends and eventually figures out details about her father.

It is a well crafted story. I have read Tricia Copeland before and have thoroughly enjoyed her novels. This one is no exception, and she has tried to meddle and blend two different fantasy tribes which makes the book even interesting.
Cannot wait for the sequels.

lately we’ve been hearing from vampires and witches more and more.
This book is not just one of the many, it is incredibly detailed and the creation of the characters has surprised me since I started reading, since although the main character is only a teenager; she is complex and the situations she goes through are situations that require maturity.
The truth is a pretty incredible book and I think the potential of the author has caught my attention from the first chapters so I want to continue this journey with the rest of the saga.

What an amazing start to a paranormal fantasy story! It is full of all of the wonders of magic, vampires, and witches not to forget danger, adventure, and suspense. One thing I love about Tricia Copeland’s story is the attention to detail in all her books. This book is about Alena. She is a vampire-witch hybrid whose vampire mother has sworn into secrecy. There are rules but will she ignore the rules when a handsome childhood imaginary friend comes into her life. Now, will the handsome imaginary friend be surprised by his beautiful pretend friend? The two young imaginary friends figure out how they are together at that moment in time. I highly recommend this book to see what happens to the two imaginary friends. I cannot wait to see what is coming next in the series.

Following Alena as she navigates a world where everything is normal for maybe 10 minutes? She tackles each problem with a sort of dark optimism that only a teenager can have. Between wanting to be normal and date, to not knowing how to make friends or deal with so many men, Alena has to learn why her mother is keeping her a secret and how to deal with bloodlust and magic gone awry.

So many good things to say about this book! Tricia Copeland’s first book in the Kingdom Journal series, Kingdom of Embers has fantastic world-building and suspense at every turn, making it impossible to put the book down for very long!

The character of Alena was unlike any supernatural being I’ve ever read about before. Her very existence as a half-witch, half-vampire could cause war and watching her keep it a secret from the people in her life was interesting. Add that on top of brewing tensions between the witches and wizards and the cliffhanger at the end of the book, this series is bound to be an amazing one!

The story line captured my attention and drew me right in from the very first page. Alena is fascinating and I really enjoyed reading about her internal struggles as she was discovering herself and coming into her powers. Hunter and Alena are absolutely magical together. Their chemistry is instantaneous and there were some twists in the story that I did not see coming but that I thoroughly enjoyed! Unexpected HighSchool Fantasy

The author really surprised me with her ability to make the main Character so relatable. Alena is a half witch half vampire in highschool who is trying to learn more about her heritage. Alena is the typical neqly 18 year old girl who is questioning everything and has the urge to learn everything she can about her self and her family. I usually don’t care for Fantasy books like this one because the main character can be a bit whiny and too immature, but the author did this character so much justice!

After reading To Be a Fae Queen, I was so excited to get my hands on this series! (If you haven’t read that yet, go get it now! It’s amazing!) We start off learning about Alena, her teenage angst, and her difficulties among the human world knowing that she is an illegal hybrid vampire-witch. She moved constantly as a child due to her mother’s ranks within the vampire community and was never able to stay close with friends but was determined to appear as normal as possible to the human population. As a child, she had imaginary friends that she played with and spoke with regularly. Is it possible that they are real people? With magic, who knows? She is a cheerleader at her high school and is seen as the weird girl with a weird diet. Cue one random boy teasing her relentlessly until the drama starts to really unfold. Honestly, I couldn’t put these books down and ended up reading the whole series in a weekend! I don’t want to give too much away – but, Tricia, you have done it again! And I love everything about this series. The world and character building are perfect for this genre, and I am hooked to any and everything you want to put on paper! Don’t stop at book one! Grab the whole series and cuddle up with some coffee for the weekend!
