While tailing a target, Sam Vampire Navy Seal meets Layla, a vampire hunter with a target of her own, him. Sam is immediately drawn to her and her unique scent, and she is both thrilled and terrified at the intensity she feels for him in return. When her sister’s lives are in danger she has no choice but to face the vampire that sets her nerves ablaze and beg for his help. Can she trust Sam to help her? Or is her family right about vampires?
I could NOT put this book down! I got sucked into Sam and Layla’s story from page one! I love the snarky banter and the enemies to lovers romance!! Very sexy!!! Great new twist on the vampire genre!!!! So suspenseful and gripping I can’t wait to find out what happens next!!! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the paranormal romance genre like I do!!

I loved it! I hated the cliffhanger, I don’t want to wait! I’ve always had a thing for vampires. This type of vampire novel is not usually my thing but I gave it a shot. I’m so glad I did.
The Hunter fell for the one that was being hunted.
Sam Mason, a vampire navy seal, has his stake out interrupted by 3 human women. Well little does he know those 3 women are from a well known vampire hunter family. Who do they want, none other than him?!?
Layla had no idea what she was getting her and her sisters into when she took the job. They needed money and this was the fastest way to get it. Trying to take Sam Mason hostage doesn’t go as planned. It also changes their lives.
Get ready for a roller coaster of feelings between these two. Besides the domino effect the failed mission on both accounts leads too.
I can’t wait till book 2 is released!

The Hunted (Vampire Navy SEAL: Sam & Layla, #1)The Hunted by S.B. Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow I really loved this book. It has everything I love sexy vampires, hot attraction, and danger around every bend and twist. The author does and amazing job of infusing all these elements and still keeping the story unique.
The story is definately about opposites attracting with Sam who is a vampire and Layla who is a vampire hunter. Their attraction to each other is instant and very hard to deny. But things aren’t just complicated by this fact.
Layla has been hired to kidnap Sam but she’s not sure who she had been hired by. When the kidnap attempt goes wrong and both Layla’s sisters get caught, 1 by Sam the other by Sam’s enemy.
The only person Layla can turn to for assistance is the one person she doesn’t know if she should trust. Sam.
Can they work together to get rid of the threat towards Sam and save Layla’s sisters? Or will their attraction mean they both get burnt and lose it all by giving into their passion.

OK, now I need the next book STAT!
The Hunted is the first book in the Vampire Navy SEAL series by S.B. Alexander. This is a riveting enemies to lovers paranormal romance, with a military element, vampires, shifters, action, suspense, drama, intrigue, chemistry, and sizzle. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Alexander, and I am kicking myself that I had not discovered her before now, because this book was fantastic- which means I have been missing out. I am excited to see that she has a lot of other books published and I can’t wait to start exploring them all. #bookwormheaven
This book is everything that you could want from a great paranormal romance- especially if you love vampires, with a military twist. Though I will admit that the author had me at vampires. I was intrigued and invested right from the beginning and devoured the book in a few short hours.
I might have cursed just a little- ok, a lot- when I got to the cliffhanger ending…. I am desperate to get my hands on Book #2 and have already preordered it, April can’t get here quick enough!
Highly recommended!
Happy reading!

Thank you, S.B. Alexander!

This is one steamy paranormal romance! The fated pair have more than enough reasons to hunt and kill each other, but their off-the-charts chemistry makes it impossible for them to do so. Layla and her sisters are badass vampire killing machines, born into a long line of vampire hunters that are tough and skilled. Sam and his vampire Navy SEAL team are just as talented and deadly. When their paths cross, the fireworks are everywhere, and their love his as forbidden as it could be. Loved the trio of sisters, who were deadly but also vulnerable, and willing to do what it takes to save each other.

S.B. Alexander is a new author for me and one I won’t be “shelving” away for never. This book was very exciting, suspenseful and really enjoyable! What’s not to love bout an attractive male lead, some serious chemistry, some crazy action and an ending that makes you salivate for more! I really couldn’t even say enough good things about the book. It was something I wasn’t sure I was going to like and boy oh boy did she change my mind! I will be consuming all other books in this series ASAP!

Julia is forced from the man she loves into an arranged marriage with Gregory, a merciless man. A stranger offers her freedom but the price is a thirst for blood and to join the Vampire resistance.

This novel was more than expected based on the unsuspecting cover. I expected Julia to try to find a way back to Adam but this has twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.

I am so happy that this is series and I have more adventures and plot to look forward to.

It is always a great feeling when you finish a book that surprises you in a memorable way.

I took a chance on this book. I never heard of the author before and the cover was quite unassuming. It sat on my shelf for a bit before I delved in, but, boy I wish I started sooner. This series is looking to be one of my favorites. A true classic in the making. The author’s writing style is very simple, which would be perfect for new readers. The story itself is beautifully done. There is some tough subject matter, including some pretty horrific domestic violence. I love reading about Julia and her growth and gaining of independence, and the paranormal twist is a perfect combination. I’m happy I gave this book a chance and can’t wait to read more from this author.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was absolutely incredible. As a new to me author, it looked interesting, but I had no idea what to expect. I was blown away. The horrible things Julia had to endure at such a young age — the author really makes you feel both for her and understand her. It is so descriptive and written with so much feeling. The story itself is so enthralling and really builds up for a fantastic series. This is the beginning of story. While it leaves you wanting more as any good series does, it has just the right amount of content to satisfy you. The realization to her that vampires are real, especially in that era, is both a fear and a relief. I think she is such a great main character and cannot wait to see what happens next in this next beginning of her life.

If you are a fan of paranormal historical fiction, this book is for you with a strong female lead, this book is for you.

This is book one in the War on Destiny series and oh boy I cannot wait to read the next. Juliana the protagonist made me laugh with her snappy remarks and sarcasm, and made me cry with every heartbreak she is faced with which are numerous. She starts out as a stubborn 15 year old and blossoms into a force to be reckoned with. I found myself rooting for Adam and Samuel at every turn hoping someone could give her all the love she needs. It’s been a while since I have read a book as quickly as I finished this one. This book was a lovely read with a fresh take on vampires that left me thirsting for more.
There are some scenes described that may trigger readers sensitive to abuse, discretion is advised.

The Hunted (Vampire Navy SEAL: Sam & Layla, #1)The Hunted by S.B. Alexander

I really enjoy a good romance novel. Like, beyond enjoy them. Throw in some vampires and I’m even more intrigued. This book was no exception. I very much enjoyed the author’s take on vampires, and how they were able to blend in with the people around them, as well as the people who hunt them. The ways that vampires were able to be neutralized in this novel were much different than other types as well. I very much enjoyed that. Besides that, the story was compelling and rich. The author makes you want to follow every one of her characters from begining to end and know what happens, leaving you on the edge of your seat. Bravo!

As they’re forced to work together to save her sister she starts to realize that she has some preconceived notions that were wrong. They face so many obstacles if they want to stand any chance of making a relationship between them work. This book is full of action, the paranormal, heat and romance that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!

I just want to say that the opening lines of this novel make you feel like you are delving into a true story. Kudos to the author for giving us those feels right off. The writing style reminds me of some of my favorite authors in my early years of reading. Just enough mystery and action to keep me on the hook. When I read the blurb I wasn’t really expecting just how horrible Juliana’s marriage was to Gregory. Seriously, I was shocked by the events that took place and maybe a little traumatized. Knowing it was a paranormal read kept me going at this point. Juliana is a strong character, and the other characters that are presented in the story all have depth as well. I’m glad this is a series so I can stay in this world a little while longer. Looking forward to next story!

If you happened to throw in an MC, I would really be in heaven but alas it was not in this book. Anyhoo back to this book. Talk about a page turner. A Vampire Navy SEAL who oozes mayhem and sex appeal is what caught my eye and made me pick up this paranormal, military romance.
The characters are well developed and likeable. The storyline is intriguing and full of suspense. It is captivating, and full of passion as the characters go from enemies to lovers. Susan gives us a gripping storyline filled with chemistry and passion, action and suspense and a few twists and turns.
With a vampire hunter, vampire SEALs, shifters, special powers, action and danger, and don’t forget the hot and steamy and sizzling sexiness.
Damnit cliffhanger!
This is my first-time reading Susan’s work and let me tell you I will be going back to check on those other sexy men and their stories in her other works.

This was certainly a book that grabs you right from the beginning. Bloodsuckers and humans, always an unfair fight. Layla gets herself tangled in web that raises red flags she just ignores. Sam Mason is the hot vampire target that she’s after. He’s a hot, Navy SEAL (yes, and a vamp) that’s got spice, romance and makes Layla and the reader fall in love with him. Can they work through the species difference? The books was engaging. It was a touch spicy with the romance and adventure. The characters were well-developed and well written. I even loved how sassy they were at times. My favorite part was when one of Layla’s sisters ends up compelled. It’s a chuckle moment. The plot seems a little much at times but it works overall. I recommend the read. I think romance readers will love it.

One family in particular had a son her own age and they grew up together and became closer and closer, but this young, budding love was not to be when Julia’s family tore the two apart and betrothed her to another, they are both heartbroken and are not even allowed to say a proper goodbye.

When Julia is presented with her future husband, she is outraged that she has to have an arranged marriage, especially the one they want and she falls into a depression up until her wedding day. When that fateful day arrives, Julia puts on a brave face and goes through with the ceremony, but as soon as they are alone, the control begins and she comes to realise that her husband will show her no kindness or mercy if she disobeys his rules.

As the marriage deteriorates, Julia keeps on fighting for her life and the ones around her whom she loves, but even escape is out of her reach, until one day tragedy strikes and she is pushed to the edge of her limits. Will Julia accept the offer, or find another way out of her current life? This is a fantasy which is part coming of age and part adventure and is full of vampires, but whether they are good or evil, is only discovered by reading the story until the end.

This storyline was so suspenseful and full of passion that I didn’t want to put it down. Layla and Sam are supposed to be enemies but when Sam is the only one that can save Layla’s sister what will she do? Is the chemistry between them too great for Layla to turn Sam in or will the chemistry keep her from doing her job. You’ll have to read this amazing story to find out for yourself.

This was such a great story! It is kind of like the movie, Interview With Vampire, taking place in 1492, and is a good combination of historical romance and vampires. I warn you, though, that there is quite graphic abuse and could be a trigger for some. The main character is Juliana Kendrick or Julia. Her father marries her off at the age of 15 to a nasty man, Gregory Smith. Gregory treats her quite horrifically, brutally beating her, and even murdering her baby. Samuel steps in to save her when it looks like all hope is lost. He tells her that he and others are actually vampires and gives her the option to join them. She accepts which allows her to heal from her physical injuries, but it can’t fix her psychological and emotional injuries. There is a love story mixed in with what is largely a story about domestic violence recovery. I enjoyed this so much and am really looking forward to the next book in the series!

As a daughter of a wealthy family in 16th century London, Julia is expected to act accordingly and follow the wishes that her father and brother have for her life. Neither of which wanted her to fall in love with Adam, the son of a servant, a kind boy though he was, and she dreamed of being with him forever. The dream doesn’t last however, and Julia is forced into an arranged marriage to the cruel and powerful Gregory. Heartbroken and trapped in a life she never wanted with a man whose mercilessness knows no bounds she is forced to make a decision. Stay in her current life or join a kind stranger who offers her everything she’s ever wanted: Freedom. Freedom comes with a catch, the need to drink blood, and to join the Vampire Resistance to fight the King.
This book was so intense it kept me up all night!!! So exciting and fast paced I didn’t want to put it down!!! I really felt for Julia’s character and couldn’t imagine going through the things she went through and the decisions she had to make to stay alive. There were parts that moved me to tears. I also loved her character development and how it showed it really does take time to heal, maybe even centuries. I also really liked her relationship with Samuel and how patient he was with her through the difficult times. Such a powerful read with great action!!! I highly recommend it for any paranormal or dark fantasy lovers !!!

Wow! I love my vampire novels, but this one really takes the cake! i found this one delightful in every which way, it had everything I was looking for, and that suspense! Holy moly! It was such a good read and I can not wait to read more in this series!

The story took off very well, and certainly held my attention. It was really good to say the least. It was one of those books that when you finish you are left wanting more. A super hot vampire that was easy for the visual mind certainly did not hurt either. From the romantic side of the story to the suspense to the action parts, this book had everything as I said. Lost Soul (War of Destiny # 1)Lost Soul by Theresa Van Spankeren
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lost Soul is Book One in the War of Destiny Series. In it we are introduced to young Julia, the daughter of a wealthy family living in 16th Century London. Julia falls head over heels in love with Adam, one of her servant’s sons, which makes her father angry. Julia’s father feels that Adam is not good enough or rich enough for his daughter, so he arranges for her to marry a wealthy man named Gregory. Despite Julia’s protests her father forces her into marriage and forbids her from seeing Adam. At the tender age of 15 Julia finds herself in a loveless marriage with a man who is cold, cruel, and controlling.

When Julia’s husband does the unthinkable and tragedy befalls Julia, she feels helpless with nowhere to turn for help. Suddenly she is presented with an opportunity to escape her miserable existence when she meets a stranger named Samuel. He offers her a deal that will forever alter her destiny and will grant her freedom as well as a reunion with her true love Adam. The only catch is that it would mean that Julia would have to join the Vampire Resistance to fight the King. Will Julia take the deal to gain freedom and be with Adam?

I found this book hard to put down as I read to see what would become of Julia. My heart broke for her as she endured so much mistreatment from those that were supposed to love her. Finding herself married at such a young age to a man who abused her as well as having a father that only cared about his own needs would have been hard to endure. The author did a good job of delving into the topics of depression and anxiety that ultimately stems from trauma and abuse. As a survivor of abuse, I found the book was a hard read at many points but a compelling one as well. I found Julia’s journey intriguing as she fought to gain her strength and independence. I cannot wait to read Book Two in the Series.

This is a well written story about a job that turns into more than just killing a bloodsucker. A vampire with green eyes that cannot be denied and on top of that he is hot. This is a story that is full of action, romance and twists and turns that will leave you turning pages fast. Where the characters are connectable and have great chemistry. I enjoyed watching their growth as well as the growth of the plot. I found this story to be fast paced and hard to put down. Human against vampire. The hunter against the hunted.

I kill bloodsuckers for a living.

The job should be simple—capture the target and collect the money. But when I draw my enemy out in the open, I’m blindsided by his mesmerizing green eyes and snarky wit. Sam Mason is the type of vampire my mom warned me about—the kind who will seduce you with his easy smile and arrogant charm.

Yet, I know better.

The Vampire Navy SEAL oozes mayhem and sex appeal. Sam’s deadly swagger puts me on edge and sets my nerves on fire. If I mess with him, he’ll annihilate me in a second. That thrills and terrifies me at the same time.

A million red flags are telling me to run. But my sisters lives are in jeopardy, and the only way to save them is to grovel for Sam’s help.

Is it possible to push the flames to the back burner and trust an enemy who can take anything he wants?

The Hunted is an enemies-to-lovers, paranormal, military romance and the first book in the new Vampire Navy SEAL spin-off series. Layla and Sam’s story is a slow burn romance with a feisty heroine, snarky banter, action, suspense, off-the-charts steamy times, and ends on a cliffhanger.

This is a book that is a little out of my comfort zone due to being a little darker than my usual vampire reads. I did find this story engaging. I am a sucker for vampires and star-crossed lovers which is what drew me to choose this book. The characters were very interesting as was the plot. I love new spins on vampire lore. I definitely look forward to the next installment.

Julia is the eldest daughter of a wealthy family in the 16th century. Her life should be simple but she is made to grow up quickly when she is married off at 15 to a man she doesn’t know, instead of the boy she loves. Life doesn’t get any easier when her husband begins beating her for various infractions. Things go from bad to worse, creating an unbearable life for Julia. Enter Samuel, a complete stranger who shows up and offers to take her away from her current life. The catch, he is a vampire.

I enjoyed the writing style of this book. I was able to connect with the characters and find myself embroiled in the story line. I think the backstory about vampires and human relations could have been written about a bit more in depth just to give the reader more backstory.

I look forward to book 2!

Lost Soul (War of Destiny Book 1) by Theresa Van Spankeren. This is such a good series. I can’t wait for the next book. Once I started reading I didn’t want to put it down. I also felt like I was swept back in the time period of this book. Its the story of Julia who at 15is forced into an abusive, horrible marriage. She has fallen in love with her best friend Adam but her father thinks that Adam is beneath them so he makes her marry Gregory. Once married she is abused in every way possible, mentally and especially physically. She is finally offered a solution but it entails her becoming a vampire and fighting against the king. Can she withstand this solution? This is a great paranormal, historical, romantic read. Just be prepared to finish when you start. I was turning pages late in the night.

This is such a great, emotional paranormal romance. This story had me enthralled from the very first page. There is romance, the paranormal, and it also tackles the very real issue of abusive relationships and the toll that they take on a person. Julia finds herself in an abusive situation and struggles to make her way out of it. She will have to give up certain things for the chance to gain so much more along with a real chance at happiness. This book has me eager to read the next in this series.
