The Romanov Heiress by Jennifer Laam is an alternate reality, historical fiction where the four girls of the last Tsar survive the governmental overthrow and make it to England. The eldest sister, Olga, seeks to refute claims that their mother had any part in supplying critical information to the German army. To do so she goes undercover as Olivia – a nurse during the war who has decided to became a maid at a noblemans house. Many secrets hide in the stories and families found here. Trying to uncover them will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat! I found this book to be a lovely period piece and definitely draws you in.

Braving Lily by Morgan Bevan is the first book in The Brightside branch of her True Platinum series. It follows Pop (Rock) Star Lily as she embarks on an unexpected, romantic adventure with Rys. After being stood up on two dates, Lily is frustrated with the winner of her charity date. Turns out that Rhys didn’t even bid. His mom did. When the date finally occurs this unlikely pair realizes they have more in common than they could imagine and, maybe, just enough for a happily ever after.
If you have read some of Ms. Bevans’ other books you will be pleasantly surprised to hear from some familiar characters as well. Enjoy!

Frozen by Lies by Martha Sweeney is a fun adventure that incorporates loved and familiar holiday traditions. The Klaus and Frost lines are now many generations in; living in villages that aren’t far from each other physically but are worlds different. Some long forgotten issue has made rivals of these groups. Nikolaus is the first Klaus to enter into Frore in a very long time but fate introduces him to Noelle. Thus beings their love story and either the redemption or destruction of Frore. This is an entertaining new type of holiday tale and I’m so excited to start the next book!

A Stranger in Disguise by P.J. Mann is a fast-paced Italian murder mystery. This is the fourth book in the Commissario Series and is fully able to be read as a standalone. Though there is some switching of point of views, we mainly follow Commissario Scala as he tries to uncover the truth behind the bodies dropping in a traveling tropue of actors. We quickly discover they were brought to Italy to save a failing theatre by performing the cursed play, Macbeth. However things take a sharp turn when the normal curse of things going bad turns to a woman found murdered and an actor missing. This twisting story will keep you up all weekend untangling the mystery!

A Dress to Remember by K.L. Small is a sweet coming-of-age fairytale. We start by meeting Princess Zarina – the 13th child of the King and Queen of Cygnia. She’s lovely, spoiled, and about to receive her Royal Advancement Ceremony. Princess Zarina feels she needs a dress that everyone will remember so she decides to travel to an dress maker who’s is said to make dresses that are almost magical. She quickly learns to be careful what you wish for as her truly magical dress starts her the journey of a lifetime! I loved the character development we see and enjoyed the unexpected twists Ms. Small added. I will definitely be reading more of her work!

Falling for You by Libby Kay is the second book in her Buckeye Falls series. This book brings back previous characters but focuses on CeCe and Evan. Though we got glimpses of their characters in Falling home, now we get to see how their story unfolds. This is another winner if you love a soft romance with wonderful characters.

Shadow Wolf by Lilliana Rose is the first book in her new Protector Wolf Shifter Series. It is the beginning of the love story between Tamaska and Kodiak. Human Tamaska hires Shadow Protection to help guard the auction of a rare and magnificent Blood opal. Little does she know that the detail is made up of Wolf shifters led by the handsome Kodiak. The action begins quickly as local vampires steal the jewel and emotions rise. There are some steamy scenes and plenty of intrigue. It did end fairly abruptly so be ready to clear some reading time when the second book becomes available.

The Muffin Shop Murder by Holly Tierney is the first in her new Delilah Crumbworthy Mystery Series. It follows baker Delilah as she opens a bakery in Snowflake Valley, Idaho. Within the first few pages we are introduced to Delilahs’ down-to-earth, bubbly personality. Soon after the intrigue begins as mysterious letters, late-night visitors, and odd occurrences begin. The story is a nice and light read, however, I had imagined a murder mystery when I picked it up so I was surprised when there was no murder in the first few chapters. That being said, it is a good mystery with some interesting twists.

The added pressure from parents out for opposite goals ensures that the story is fast-paced. If you love a good opposites attract story with a strong heroine then this little treat of a book is for you.

Falling Home by Libby Kay is a heart-warming, second-chance love story. It follows small-town high-school sweethearts Ginny and Max years after their divorce and Ginnys subsequent move to the big city. Going home to help her Father through surgery, Ginny isn’t exactly excited about being home or the holidays but she’s less excited to run into her ex-husband Max. However, life isn’t predictable and neither is the heart – putting both Max and Ginny into real, relatable situations. I liked the characters and the story left me intrigued to read the next book in the series.

Knight in the Museum is the 5th installment of the Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery Series by Alice Bienia. It follows Jorja as she investigates the mysterious death of an ex-policeman. As she delves deeper into the events leading to his death, she runs into more and more concerning evidence that links him to other recent terrible accidents including other deaths. The whole mystery is made more intriguing by the inclusion of a pre-Columbian jade statue which is rumored to be cursed. This fast-paced story is sure to have you on the edge of your seat. I haven’t read any other work by Ms. Bienia but found the story to flow just fine as a stand-alone. If you like a good mystery with lots of twisty clues and a strong heroine then this book is for you!

Murder on Oak Street by I.M. Foster is an intense ride of a murder mystery. It follows Dr. Daniel O’Halleran as he tries to untangle the webs of intrigue surrounding the deaths of two wealthy and influential men which may, or may not, be connected. The long list of suspects are full of secerts, lies, and scandal. It’s cleverly written, well-paced, and full of colorful characters. Foster had created a wonderful story with enough twists to rival Knives Out. Happy sleuthing!

Kamana Wanalaya for the Holidays by Susan Renee is a spicy enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract tale with a seasonal twist. The book follows Teagan and Tenley (the yin and yang of all things romance and love) as they vacation for a week at a beautiful Hawaiian resort. Along with a cast of other couples – who are all very different – Teagan and Tenley learn about each other and challenge their views of life and love. There’s laughter, emotions, and love; this quick read will most certainly be a welcome addition to your reading log.

Also, there is an authors note at the end which does mention that characters seen here appear elsewhere in her other books. I’ve not read her before so I cannot speak to what the other books are like but I can say I love it when authors do that. It’s like a present to get to revisit our favorite characters and see where life has taken them!

Cooked: the chef blows her lid by Cari Schaeffer was a super enjoyable read. The main character, Olivia, is a down-on-her-luck chef trying to cope with the hits life is throwing at her. Luckily, she has people that are there for her cheering her on. The romance in the book felt a bit forced and the ending rushed but neither took away from an intriguing, woman-powered story. This is one author that I’m definitely going to be following.

An Inheritance to Die For is the fourth stand-alone book of the Cozy Mystery series by Judy Moore. As a person who hasn’t had the chance to read the previous books in the series (yet!), Ms. Moore has done a truly excellent job of creating a stand-alone installment. This fast-paced read follows Beck as she heads to Miami to investigate the death of her former roommates father. The characters are intriguing and introduced in such a way that readers can develop their own theories as we follow Beck through the quagmire of clues. This is a perfect read if you enjoy a nice mystery.

The newest addition to the Notebook Mysteries entitled Haunted Christmas does not disappoint! Once again Kimberly Mullins has brought mystery-solving Emma to life, this time with some holiday adventure. With some other familiar characters as well as some new ones this book brings the magic of Christmas with a good dose of mystery spirit. It’s a quick read and enjoyable by itself but you won’t regret starting at the beginning of this fun series. I’ve loved getting to be a part of the family once more!

Emma is the first book in the Notebook Mystery series by Kimberly Mullins. It’s the imaginative start to the adventures of Emma – a young, adventure-seeking amateur sleuth. The book has the feel of a diary with a narrator. This allows the reader more insights into Emma’s world.

Emma makes decisions that are questionable which, consequently, makes her very relatable. Her family and friends are quirky and interesting. The plot twists and builds to an unexpected ending. I found the book to be very enjoyable.

The fourth book of the Notebook Mysteries, unexpected outcomes, continues to follow Emma – a young, observant sleuth. This book is a good end to a fun series!

Emma has grown and matured through the books to get to this place. The mysteries are as tangled as ever, the costs even greater. It’s fun to see the events from Emma’s perspective and I love how familiar the characters have become.

The story does build on itself so I suggest you start with book 1. You won’t regret it.

Fairly Royal is the fourth part of The Fair Series by Grace Grahme. This installment features Anna (a bold, spirited individual) and Phillip (an Earl with too much responsibility and structure). Their story starts with a scheme to date to keep the paparazzi and difficult mothers at bay over the holidays. Things quickly get heated thanks, in part, to a decade-long one-sided crush. The two are opposites with just enough in common to fuel the kindling of their new relationship.

This is a slow-burn book turned steamy and, while not my normal type of book, was quite enjoyable. The characters are quirky and interesting. The story felt familiar with enough unique twists that it stayed interesting. It was also amazing to see accents portrayed in a real life sort of way.

Murder Most Pemberley by Jessica Berg is a delightful mix of murder mystery and romance. The writing is witty and brought more than a few odd looks as I snorted and laughed my way through.

Readers are brought on a crazy ride though Eliza’s vacation to Britain for the family reunion of a lifetime. Between the holiday romance and current family drama, are intwined peeks into the family’s past and, of course, the intrigue of current murder. This book contains characters that are multidimensional and interesting; excellent foreshadowing and clues; and comes with a plot that begs for closer inspection. Overall, this book has become an instant favorite for me!

We see Ella’s passion and love for her niece, Tessa, throughout the story even as Ella’s head is turned by the handsome, pirate-ish lawyer Jake. The love story isn’t written by Hallmark but is still worth the read. The lies, secrets, and unspoken truths will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end! Enjoy!

Edith MacKenzie has created a thrilling adventure in Levi; the first book of the series on The Brothers of Creekside Ranch.

Levi, an extremely angry ex-seal is tasked with protecting Bella turned Beccy. As Bella learns to be a nanny/housekeeper for Levi and his family, sparks fly between her and Levi – not always in a good way.

The story was fairly forthright. We know that somethings coming and hope for a Happily Ever After. The characters were intriguing with just enough background to help with flow but not enough to fully clear the mysteries of the past. I did have trouble with some of Bellas decisions which caused me to have to put the book down to breathe but I’m so glad I finished it. What a story!! Now onto the next installment!

Isabella Bride of Ohio is an charming, quick-read with a happily ever after. Part of the American Mail Order Brides collection by Debra Parmley this book is a stand-alone installment. The main character, Isabella, is a quiet and shy transplant to America from Sweden who has struggled through the transition. The book follows her journey West to marry Donald after tragedy strikes her yet again. The new adventure she embarks on is an emotional roller-coaster. The author uses subtle foreshadowing to help the reader along the way to Isabella’s perfect fairytale.

The Happily Ever Bookstore by Bernadette Marie is a wonderful soft romance. It follows the love story of three different couples through a few weeks of time. The overarching theme of love at first sight makes the perfect backdrop for a evening at home reading with a candle. The interwoven stories allow the reader to really settle in. Just a perfect book if you want something to really give you a true love, happy ever after boost. I loved it.
