My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Recipe for Revenge by Hazel Smith is the second book in the April May Cozy Mystery series. It was readable as a stand-alone book and would be even better in context as a series. It follows April May as she continues settling into life in Laurel Lake, Minnesota. With her home renovation coming along nicely, beloved furry companion, hot unofficial boyfriend, and enjoyable non- job with the newspaper – April seems to be doing great. Then tragedies begin hitting and, suddenly, April is dragged into the story of two lives lost to car accident 25 years ago. A good mystery that kept me guessing.

Unexpected by Laylah Abrams is a sweet star-crossed romance. It follows Nick (aspiring artist, student, and waiter) and Claire (rich, famous ex-model) as they learn what love is. Nick and Claire each have their reasons for staying and for secrets but when the tabloids get involved -who can say what is true? Or even guess what love is? I found this book to be an interesting twist on the common rich/poor coupling. It definitely deserves a read for anyone that like modern-day fairytale romance.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murky Murder by Hazel Smith is the 4th book in the Maid Ivy Cozy Mystery series. I’m sure this book is a great addition to the series, however, I’ve never read any others. It was a fine stand-alone book, though some things probably would’ve been better within the full context.

It follows Ivy, a maid at LaFontaine, newly promoted to Head Maid, during a weekend business conference. Things seem to be going well until a mysterious and cryptic letter arrives shortly before a guest is murdered. Ivy, her friends, and the police work together to solve tye case. It was a nice, quick read with a little romance between the mystery.

Slay It With a Diamond is part of the Diamond District Mystery series by Rob Bates. This was my first introduction to this author but it did seem that the stories are interconnected. It was fine as a stand-alone though.
This story follows Mimi as she and her father buy a supposedly cursed black diamond. Bad news follows the diamond causing Mimi to investigate the murder of a once-close, now estranged friend. As threats continue to mount, it puts pressure on Mimi and all her close relationships. The Book was a lovely who-done-it with some fun twists.

While I enjoyed the first book, I have to say this one was far better. It touched my heart to read about some of the historical events and people of Christmas. Many of the topics covered would be good for a young adult reader entering middle school.

An accidental meeting in an airport bookstore is love at first sight. Although they are children, and have no idea how to contact each other, both Noah and Ebun feel the spark. Rogue Wolf is the third and final installment of the Protector Wolf Shifter Series by Lilliana Rose. It’s the exciting, action-packed conclusion of Tamaska and Kodiak. Vampires at the door and the pack of Wolf shifters wakened doesn’t really suggest a good time for a blooming romance.

Still plan to read this series in order or you’ll miss some of the most important dynamics. This one was the hardest for me because of some sheer pig-head decisions but I also couldn’t put it down and risk missing the end. Still a great series if you enjoy a good urban fantasy mixed with supernatural.

Marked Wolf by Lilliana Rose is the second book in her Protector Wolf Shifter Series. It is the continuation of the love story between Tamaska and Kodiak. This book starts EXACTLY where the last book stops and, I must say, I love that. No flashback or skimpy version – just keeps going!

The odds are greater and the way more muddled for our main characters. This book answers some of the lingering questions of the first book left. I expect it will wrap up in the last book nicely. Flowers of Evil is the first book in the new Hani’s daughter mysteries series by N.L. Holmes. It follows Neferet and Bener-ib – two young Egyptian sunets (or physicians) as they try to untangle the mystery of the brutal stabbing of a local florist. It includes a rowdy cast of characters and rival sunu intent on driving our heroines out if business.

I’ve never read any of the original mystery series by Holmes but found this to be a solid read without the context provided there.
