Gumshoe Goes To A Quinceanera (Gumshoe Mysteries Book 2)Gumshoe Goes To A Quinceanera by Laura Hawks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second book in this series which is just as great as the first one and I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly suggest reading the previous book in this series as well to help your enhancement of the characters and this author. Gumshoe is back in another great story with another mystery to solve. She is such a great character and I enjoy what she adds to the story. In this installment she finds herself trying to save a fifteen year old’s birthday party before it is ruined. A story that pulls you into the dark world of corruption. It has suspense and twists and turns you don’t want to miss. I enjoyed how I was pulled into the story from the start by the author’s use of details. There is great growth of the story throughout which makes it easy to read. This is an entertaining story that is fast paced and engaging. I look forward to seeing what happens with Gumshoe next. I highly recommend this book.

Gumshoe Goes to A Quinceanera is the second book in the Gumshoe Mysteries series by Laura Hawks. Having read and enjoyed several of Ms. Hawks’ books previously, there was no question that I would be passing this by when it released, as I knew it would be a fun read.
It is a YA cozy mystery, with paranormal elements, humour, banter, action, adventure, whimsy, secrets, corruption, friendship, and intrigue. The story was well woven, suspenseful, and entertaining- and even though it was a little predictable in parts and is targeted towards younger readers- I still really enjoyed it.
The characters are cleverly crafted into fully realised individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. The story is original, with a great pace and a smooth flow, making for an easy read.
As I have said before, Ms. Hawks always manages to intrigue me with her clever storylines, and this story was no different. I loved meeting Mia in the first book, and especially Gumshoe- who really steals the show, every time. So I was looking forward to catching up with them again and enjoyed following them along on this second adventure. Now I am forward to seeing what they get up to next.
Well worth the read!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Laura Hawks!

This is the really cute story of Mia and her familiar, Gumshoe, and they are trying to find a murderer before Mia’s friend has her Quinceanera ruined. This story is very entertaining and Gumshoe had my giggling the whole way through. This would be a cute read-aloud for families as well as a good chapter book for readers venturing into reading on their own. It’s filled with mystery and humor and a quick read.

Another winner with this adventure for Mia & Gumshoe. Mia is trying to fulfill her promise to help Gumshoe find out what happened to his family. Along the way, another adventure involving a party. I just cannot put these books down. The last one (Gumshoe & The Mysterious Mushroom) and this one are sooo good that you want to read them in one sitting. They are entertaining. Gumshoe can only be understood by Mia. She has learned she is a witch and he is her familar. I laugh at their interactions. I have been reading this too my grandson and he has been chuckling too. He rarely laughs but he finds Gumshoe is funny. The cozies are perfect for the teen/young adult crowd. I’m an old lady and I love them too. I can’t wait for the next one.

The story and flow is so perfect. Mia and her parents are perfect in the story. I can’t wait for the next book.

Her evil uncle has taken her mothers soul and is trying for hers as well. With so much going on. Amy, Mae, Dakin and Maveena pull together as a team to try and save the day. Hold on tight. This is going to be a bumpy ride.

The YA book was entertaining and full of action. I was brought into the story right away. The author has a wonderful and easy writing style.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amy’s whole life has been turned upside down and she feels lost. Her friends have abandoned her and everything she thought she knew about herself, and her family turns out to be untrue. Not only does she discover who she “really” is, but she learns who her father is and that the mother she thought was dead is not actually dead. Problem is that her mom’s soul is trapped in an ethereal state and needs to be reattached to her body. Amy sets out to rescue her mom but needs someone of Pure-blood to power-share to bring her mom back. The only one with this ability is the enemy and Amy must make a deal with him if she wants to save her mother. Will the risk be worth it?

This book is the third book in the Descendants Series and jumps right into Amy’s story. Admittedly, I have not read the first two books, but it was easy to follow along without feeling like I missed anything. The characters are well written, and the scenes are written superbly. Amy is stronger than she thinks when faced with adversity and betrayal. Rather than give up after her whole world was turned topsy-turvy, she chose to stand up and face the challenges head-on. A fantastic read that is full of mystery, magic, action, suspense, drama, and adventure galore.

Exposed is the third book in The Descendants series by Lea Cherry. I would highly recommend reading the other books in the series first as it does not work as a standalone. Amy is struggling with the recent events that have uprooted her life. Her mother, who she thought was dead is back but she is unable to wake her. She is also struggling to come to terms with who she is and that everything she thought before was untrue. This books has a great cast of characters and the story keeps you hooked. This is the 3rd and final book in the Descendants series. I do highly recommend reading the first 2 books first so this book is fast paced and it jumps right back in from the beginning, so if you didn’t know the story you could feel a bit lost.
This is a YA fantasy story. It is action packed with adventure, danger, secrets, lies, Mysteries to solve and people to save, witches and magic add an additional sparkles to the story. The author does an amazing job with the main character Amy. She has had such a hard time as secrets about her parents came to light and the loss of her friend and she struggles to work through all that.
At the same time the danger hasn’t left and she now needs to try and a find a way to save her mother but when the only person who can help turns out to be the only person she can’t trust, Amy is left wondering if she should put her trust in this person and if it is wise to do so.
Can she save the people she needs to without losing her life or soul or will making a deal with the enemy be a decision she will regret?
It was a great fantasy read which will keep you hooked all the way through.

This book is filled with witches, magic, adventure, life-and death, mystery, suspense, drama, betrayal, a now or never type of situations. This book the third book in the series and I wish I read the other three, but it did not make me feel like I missed or didn’t understand what was going on. It was very surprising and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, just waiting and wanting to know what was going on. It was exciting with all the number of things going on in the book especially the wonder when Amy found out there was a whole new world that she didn’t know about. Amy doesn’t understand what was going on and wondered what she needed o do, that she must figure out if what she wants is worth making a deal with the one, she finds an enemy. What an amazing read, and really am looking forward to reading the first ones.

Exposed is the third and final book in the Descendants series by Lea Cherry. This is an engrossing young adult urban fantasy with witches, magic, high stakes, family, friendship, and adventure.
Amy has been through quite a lot especially since her was completely upended after discovering a whole new world that she never even knew existed- as well as learning ‘who’ she really was. She feels adrift, with a target on her soul- loss and betrayal weigh heavily on her. She’s ready to give up- but will need to dig deep if she has any chance of saving the day. What happens here makes for a great read.
Looking forward to reading ‘Star Light’ which is the first book in Ms. Cherry’s new fantasy romance series, the ‘Elesseand Saga’, due to release mid-April (2023).
Happy Reading…

Miranda Stone is a typical teen from a conservative family. She suddenly develops magical powers and believes her family wouldn’t take it very well so she decides to run. She took what little money she had and ran to New Orleans. her plan was to become a singer and find a cheap motel to start her new life. She tries to be an opener for a drag club, thinking things will work out later.

Unfortunately, she soon realizes that won’t be the case. Women all over the world develop the same powers she does and end up going missing. She starts to fear for her life while still trying to maintain a normal life. She even meets the one – the girl of her dreams. She realizes that it’s probably a bad idea to try to have a relationship with everything going on, but the heart wants what it wants.

It’s a good read. This is the first in a two book series. I’m intrigued as to how the next book is going to go. I enjoyed the entire story. The characters were amazing and the plot was entertaining. The pace was a bit slow, but it was such a great story.

This author blew me away right away with this story. This is the first book I’ve ever read from the author and I couldn’t stop turning pages! I just had to know what would happen next. It does start off a bit slow but then it jumps right into a fantasy world. Miranda finds out that she has powers she is unable to handle and is trying her best to keep them hidden from others who will destroy her because she has them! Then she discovers that there are others like her and then her works shifts as they try to hide themselves from common people! Of course as a runaway, you know that Miranda will find herself getting into trouble at some point, but the best part is watching her life unfold worn every page! I’m looking forward to glow book two will fill in all the missing pieces. Amazing book!

This book was the first book to this new series. The book was a little slow paced but based on being the first book it’s a great installment. The plot was built to the point that I will be looking for the next book in here. It was amazingly written that you could almost feel like you were in the room with everyone. Miranda is a teenager that she all of a sudden had magical powers. She felt like her family wouldn’t like it or except the fact that she had these powers, so she ran away. Finding out that more girls just like her, Miranda starts to wonder what is going on and if she will be next. This was a great first book to the series and honestly can’t wait for the next one, I really want to know what was going to happen.
