Lap Baby is the first book I’ve read by this author. The author truly did not disappoint at all. The first few pages she pulled me in and I was hooked into the story. The book was like a emotional roller coaster for me. The world building and characters was well thought out. The plot of the story with details was amazing. Lap Baby was definitely a page turner for me.

This book is an emotional ride with gripping characters who are all affected by trauma. How would you cope if you were only one of four survivors of a major plane crash that killed 142 individuals? Would this one tragedy stay with you and change your whole life by being a constant reminder of that day, or would you be able to walk away and push that day aside to move on with your life? This is what Julie, Marie, Paige, and Terry must decide in “Lap Baby” by Amy Q. Barker. Here we get to see three of the four survivors’ first-person journeys and how their lives have been changed. This was such a fascinating read that had me wanting to know more about these people, their lives, and honestly had me upset and heartbroken for them. This story and these characters were so well thought out and written that I honestly questioned if this was a biography at one point! If you want an engaging, emotional read, check this out.

This was really emotional and heartwarming story. It deals with loads of things from love and loss, finding happiness, moving past hate and the need for revenge,finding the path to forgiveness and learning how to overcome guilt over circumstances we can no longer change.

This book is told from the views of 3 different women. All of them went through the same tragic event, a plane crash which killed everyone on board apart from them and it has effected them right up to this present day. This is the story of their journeys as they overcome their demons and find ways to live a more peaceful life.
The characters development through this book was great and reading through there struggles although at times heartbreaking also gave you hope that things can change and you can find peace no matter what you go through.
This book is emotional so I definately recommend some tissues but its well worth reading the sad times to see our characters bloom.

This was an emotional story with an original and intriguing storyline which had me hooked from page one. The story is set twenty years after a plane crash and centres around three women who survived. Children under the age of two, known as ‘lap babies’ are instructed to be placed on the floor of the plane during an emergency. This is what flight attendant Julie Geiger told five sets of parents to do just before the plane crashed, and she is now living with the guilt. In order to try and heal and gain forgiveness Julie is trying to get the rules on lap babies changed. Meanwhile Marie Stanley who lost her son on that flight blames Julie. Marie knows she needs to move on and not let her hate fester, but she can’t seem to stop feeling vindictive towards the flight attendant. Then there is the lap baby who survived, Paige Montgomery, however, her parents died and she was then adopted. Paige just wants to forget it ever happened. All three women are dealing with the consequences of that fateful flight, whilst also trying to move on with their lives. Paige is happily at the start of a new relationship and wants to learn to forge her own path, whilst Marie needs to let go of her hate if she’s to save her marriage, and Julie is so full of blame and involved in her cause, that she can’t see love fitting into her life. This is a heartwarming and at times heartbreaking story, which took me on an emotional rollercoaster whilst reading it. I felt instantly engaged with the wonderfully detailed characters and along with the descriptive narrative I was fully immersed in the story.

This was an interesting plot and not something I have read before. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it as a past airline employee, but it was a wonderful read. It was a heartwarming read about forgiveness and healing after a tragedy. The story is told by three women who survive the plane crash that occurred 20 years earlier. Julie was the flight attendant and takes on and fights for changes as she lives with guilt. Marie was a mother with a child and Julie was a surviving child of the plane crash. Julie keeps in contact with the survivors as they all work through the trauma. I was pulled into the story and had to keep reading about the characters to find out what would happen, how they would cope, and how they can move on. This was a roller coaster of emotions and I enjoyed the ride!

This book is a work of fiction, however it is based on truth for the children who fly under the age of two. It made me think. It also haunted me much like the characters who were haunted for 20 years. This book was so good! There is one explicit scene at the end of the book. I loved the prologue and how the story started. Julie Geiger is a flight attendant who was working during a horrific plane crash. She was one of 4 survivors; the story follows the lives of these survivors. Paige was a “lap baby” during the crash, and the only baby who survived. Marie’s baby did not survive, and she blames that loss on Julie. Julie and Marie (and to a lesser degree the other two survivors) find their lives on hold for twenty years, unable to move past the plane crash. I loved the growth in the characters and how they learned to move forward. There was a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming and was awesome too! This book is a fantastic read and worth every minute of your time.

To put it simply, this book was such an unbelievably great read that had me completely captivated from the very start and took me on such a rollercoaster of emotions. Its heartwarming and heartbreaking at times. This VERY talented author is someone new to me but I can say that it definitely wont be the last book from this author that I read. I do offer a handy hint: She tells us how she came across this story and then wrote this book in the authors notes. I had a flick through before starting to read so I read the notes first and I am actually glad I did and I recommend you do that as well.

Emotional, heart wrenching, forgiveness, guilt…..this is the story of this book. I am gutted but yet find hope when I read each page.

There are 4 survivors of a plane crash many years ago. Over 100 died in the air disaster and somehow the 4 survivors’ lives are forever changed. Julie, the stewardess, tries hard to fight for change, as her guilt haunts her on the loss many, but especially trying to cope with Maria’s son, who was a “lap baby”. Paige was the only “lap baby” that survived, but at what cost. Julie wants change in how the protocol of dealing with a possible air accident and when children, especially lap babies, are on flight. There is a 4th survivor as well, that really comes full circle…but in which way? Will there be forgiveness and healing after 20 years have passed?

This story was fantastic women’s fiction that really felt real….and the epilogue just choked me up as I am trying not let my tears flow. This is a fantastic read and I highly recommend this book.

Lap Baby by Amy Barker was an emotion read. This is the first story that I have read by this author. I admit it did take me a few chapters to really get into the story but I am happy that I stuck with it. The story itself was loosely based on a true story. Experiencing the story from each perspective was enjoyable. It was easy to follow and see how they were intertwined even so many years later. I enjoyed seeing how it had changed each of their lives and how they were handling it through the years. Unfortunately many of the ways of handling the experience were quite negative. Julie fought so hard for change after following orders and losing lives. The story really resonated with me as I have two young kids so I was able to empathize with each of the characters differently.

What and emotional book! The author wrote in such a way that I could feel the frustration that Julie, a flight attendant, who is dealing with an experience she can never forget. Julie told 5 families with very young children to put their babies on the floor of the plane during an emergency. What happened to those babies and the families when the plane crashed? How can Julie live with her knowledge of that experience and knowing nothing has changed in the 20 years since that crash? What if anything can Julie and the families do to change the emergency training or process so families don’t have to go through an event like this again.

An emotional story of sadness, hope for changes, strength, and so much more the characters work through after this tragedy they never expected to face during their lives.

Lap Baby was an amazing story, one of my favorite reads of the year. I love that it was lightly based on a true story (I googled the Lap Baby laws mid book; and the blurb at the end explains the inspiration). I was hooked instantly, and it got better as the story progressed. The author got the idea for the book after watching a documentary about Lap Babies, those under age 2 that fly on their parents lap. The story surrounds a terrible accident, where there were Lap Babies on the flight, and it crashed. The protocol states the babies should be placed on the floor between their parent’s feet. The flight attendant, and one of the main characters, Julie, felt terrible giving these instructions. The parents were not happy with the decision either. The flight had just 4 survivors, and this book shows their lives 20 years later. That one day shaped the survivors life, and each handled it differently.. Paige was my favorite story, but I loved Marie and Julie as well. I love the way Terry stayed distant through the years, but was brought back in, in a twist that was lovely. I did not love the epilogue, found it a big cheesy, but sweet. I look forward to reading more by the author, because if they are half as good as Lap Baby, I’ll be happy.

Lap Baby is a heartwarming, inspirational woman’s fiction novel about redemption, forgiveness, and finding oneself after a tragedy. 20 years ago three women Julie, Marie, and Paige were the only survivors of a horrific plane crash. Julie was the flight attendant on duty that day and lives with self doubt and guilt daily. Her only focus the last twenty years has been to have the rules of a flight changed with no success. Will she ever be able to let the actions of that day go so she can live her life to the fullest?

Lap Baby is told by all three women who survived the plane crash. With the story being told from all three perspectives the reader understands how each person can be affected so differently from the same tragedy. The characters are well developed, and the story line believable. This emotional story had me on a roller coaster ride from the very beginning. My heart ached for all three women for many different reasons. I so badly wanted all of them to forgive Julie and understand that accidents are called accidents for a reason. This was my first time reading a novel written by Amy Barker and I am glad that I picked this one up. I would highly recommend this novel to anyone looking for a heartfelt summer afternoon read.

Lap Baby by Amy Q. Barker is about 4 survivors of a plane crash. The story tells the survivors’ stories beautifully. The plot is very intriguing. The characters are rich and diverse. The author does an amazing job of pulling you in and experiencing the heartbreak and guilt that they all feel. Watching these women try to make it through life after an event that has devastated them all and how they handle day trials of being in survival mode is gut-wrenching. This is my first book by this author and it did not miss. This is a must-read story.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from The Boys of Alpha Block as it is the first book I’ve read by this author. The cover grabbed my attention, and the synopsis sealed the deal, so I gave it a go. This is an emotional read as the author really does their best to show the realities of a correctional facility for young boys. The drama will have you flipping pages as quickly as possible to find out what happens next. The boys will do whatever is necessary to escape, but will any of them make it or will they all suffer the worst consequences imaginable?
I couldn’t put this down as I was completely invested in these characters. I am definitely keeping an eye on anything this author releases as their writing style is mesmerizing and engaging. I highly recommend picking this book up to go on the emotional and dramatic rollercoaster that is The Boys of Alpha Block.

When i started reading this book I did so based on word of mouth. I didn’t read the description or look at any reviews, I just started reading. So to say I was surprised by the story is an understatement. This book is emotional and heart wrenching. It is so easy to n imagine this group of boys and everything they have experienced. It felt b like this book had me b on the edge of my seat the whole way through. It was fanatically written and simply captivating. I loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Holy Cow! This book was absolutely phenomenal! It features a group of boys who are in Juvenile Detention who have made the decision to break out. This book shows what is happening with the boys and the hopelessness, desperation, and tension. However, it also features the adults who are there to help and work with the boys. This book reads like some of the absolute best books and movies that feature adults working with troubled youth. As a teacher, I felt both groups of characters jump of the pages. I was kept on the edge of my seat because I definitely wanted to see what would happen next. I definitely saw myself thinking indepth about how society can fail complete groups of people. It got me thinking about the education system and it tugged at my heart strings. I definitely recommend this book, but be prepared to keep reading from the time you start until the time you finish! Its one you won’t want to put down!

I really struggled to connect to characters. I understand the struggle they have with the authority figures in their life. The kind versus the overbearing who run unchecked and because of their power many lean toward abusive and humiliating to the boys. About 60 percent the story picked up and moved along. We left the teacher and was more concentrated on what the boys were doing. There is an element of “will they or won’t they” that kept me turning pages.

Overall I felt this was a slow moving story which led to a lot of page turning. I was initially drawn to see about the life of these boys. I fid get some if that but its a snippet into their life and what they are doing. Good story but not great for me.

This book reminded me of Freedom Writer’s Diary, yet author Nancy Sullivan dives deeper in to each boy’s (inmates) backgrounds and stories of why they landed in the detention center/prison. The writing was powerful and very moving, and realistic, edge-of-your-set type of writing.

Not these easiest subject matter (especially the preface), yet enjoyable novel, and makes you think (at least it made me think, being an educator) how society fails these teenagers (among countless others) and what the “best” way is to rehabilitate them to lead “normal” lives.

This was my first book I read by this author and I was not disappointed at all. The book started out slow but eventually picks back up. The world building and characters was greatly thought out. The Boys of Alpha Block by Nancy Nau Sullivan. This was such a good book. Its the story of a group of teenage boys incarcerated at Alpha Correctional Center a juvenile detention center. These boys have been humiliated, abused and degraded by the guards. The boys begin to think that trying to escape might be the better option. They are being held like animals in a cage. Working together they devise a plan to break out thinking that its got to be better than staying in this place waiting to be raped, starved and beat up. This place is not a rehabilitation its a torture chamber. The Teachers and some of the guards know something is about to happen because they can feel the tension in the air. Some of the boys become lifetime friends and will do whatever they can to protect each other. I was really upset with the teachers and guards for the way they let these kids be treated. This book will tug at your heart.

A beautiful story I couldn’t put down. This was a very moving story. The depth of the characters were very well written. I enjoyed everything about this book honestly. It was a very easy read with a great plot. I suggest reading the author’s notes (I rarely do, but glad I did). If you are looking for a heartwarming read to start your summer, pick this one up.

I was intrigued with the storyline and the cover of this book and decided to dive in….and this was quite an enjoyable read! This story gave me lots of suspense, intrigue, rawness of the characters and definitely my heart for these boys and what they suffer as far as abuse…this author did a great job of storytelling.

What is the ultimate price of freedom and is it truly worth the cost? The boys at the correctional institute stir up a way to escape…..but at what worth? Escape the abuse from the institute officers… something has to happen……..

This story is truly a very good read…the struggle and what the boys endure at times….my heart.

Looking for a short novel to pull at ALL of your heart strings? HERE IT IS!!!!!
The story line is beautiful. How this family goes on a lovely trip to reconcile broken bonds.
This novel is very well put together. The way that Sharon makes sure to touch on each character just the right amount, it makes this booka very enjoyable read. It does have some very sad parts but they way it is written you feel like part of the family and like you are there.
This was a fantastic read!

This is the heart-wrenching tale of the “Boys of Alpha Block.” It takes place in a juvenile detention center where the boys are subjected to the horrors of physical, mental, emotional, and (sometimes) sexual abuse, as well as abuse of power, humiliation and degradation, and complete disregard for their education. I would consider this book to have a slow pacing but I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. This book will take an emotional toll on you; however, there are bright spots in it too. Friendships are formed and there is hope which does ease some of the tension of all of the darkness. I think one of the things that has stuck with me long after I’ve finished the last page is the fact that there were “good” people in positions to help the boys and they just stood idly by. This book is definitely worth the read, but do be prepared to have your heart tugged at and to have a good stare at the wall when you’re done.

This book was exciting and thrilling. The boys plotting an escape because, quite frankly, the guards were jerks. The story is full of drama. The teachers just wanted to do the right things by the boys. This was a story I had to devour in one sitting. You can’t put it down. Once you get pulled into Alpha Block, you can’t leave. The characters are so well-written that you feel like you know them. Their struggle is real. Though the boys committed crimes, they didn’t deserve to be abused like that. An amazingly well-done story that had me sucked in and reading it page to see what was coming next. The English teacher knew something was coming, she had me looking. The story flows so well. I can’t recommend this book enough. I hope to read more from this author. Check it out, you won’t be sorry.

Emotional is an understatment for the sentiments of this book. I’ve not read anything by this author before but I’ll look for more by her.

This is the story of Julie, Marie, Paige, and Terry. They were all in a plane crash over 20 years ago. They were the only survivors on the flight that crashed when an engine failed during a blizzard. Julie was the flight attendant on that flight, while Marie, Paige, and Terry were passengers. Julie was instructed by the pilot to go into emergency mode so she did as she was trained. She had the lap babies moved to the floor between the feet of their parents. Julie fought for years to have this policy changed after the loss of life that took place on this flight.

This is a story of redemption, forgivenesss, and moving on. Each person has dealt with this situation very differently. They each have their own demons that they must face. There were a few times that I thought the story lagged on too much but overall, was a very good story.
