This is the first book in the Weird Shifter series. I have always enjoyed this authors work and when I saw this I didn’t hesitate to read it. I love paranormal romances and this has that as well as danger, suspense, adventure and high stakes.

Ducky (just as her name suggest) is a duckling shifter. To everyone around her she’s an embarrassment and is constantly bullied and teased. After all what good is she as a shifter if she has no abilities?
When she hears that Vampire Lord Kobreon has returned looking for his mate she can’t wait to see him. She knows she has no chance as his mate but she needs to just see him from afar.
However fate has other ideas and when she is taken inside the castle in her duckling form she gets closer to him than she ever imagine possible.

Vampire Lord Kobreon has a lot of his plate. With a war on the brink of breaking out between the supernatural and humans he has his plate full trying to find a cure for the kings daughter. The last thing he needs is to worry about finding a mate.
When a little duckling turns up in his life he finds a companion he never knew he wanted or needed. But how will he respond when he realises that Ducky is much more than a little duckling.
Can Lord Kobreon find the cure to save the kings daughter and prevent a war from starting?
Is there any way Ducky can help, or is she just a useless little duck?
This is a captivating story and I loved every part of it.

Feeling as though she is unable to help in any way, Ducky watches helplessly from the sidelines until war is looming fate and it forces her to make a difficult decision. A brilliant and creative twist on shifters, romance, and fate with a fairytale feeling.

This is not the first book by this author I have picked up, and it definitely will not be the last. This is, however, the first book in the Weird Shifters series, so thankfully there will be more! For anyone who appreciates paranormal stories, there is a little bit of everything all rolled up in one story. Ducky is a character I found myself rooting for from the beginning. The story is interesting and well-written. This is also the first book I have read that involves shifters, so I was intrigued from the get-go. If you are looking for a cozy, fun, escape-from-reality kind of book, then I highly suggest picking up this book and getting lost in the world of Ducky.

I’m such a fan of C.A. King and their lovely paranormal YA books. This particular book grabbed my attention with its adorable cover art. Who doesn’t adore a sweet little yellow floof!? I simply had to know how this shifter story would go, so I jumped right in and was not disappointed.

I really enjoyed Ducky’s character and sort of related to her with the anxiety struggle that initially she did not have a good sense of control over, leading to a number of embarrassing situations. Of course, bullying from others around her ensued.

One thing that I can say without hesitation is that the author clearly has a gift of keeping the reader enthralled with the different plot twists, characters and levels of paranormal figures. I could not put this book down. I found myself excited to see what was next and continuously telling myself that I needed to read just one more chapter before bed.

I found myself laughing out loud throughout the book because of the witty back and forth and even some of the character names that were quite clever. For instance, I almost fell over when I first read about the character calling himself, Drak Ula. Who would have guessed he was not a fan of garlic! Don’t worry, this isn’t something that will give any plot twists away.

I think fans of the paranormal, YA books, and great storytelling will really enjoy this book. It is quite interesting, a page turner and refreshing take on this genre. The fight between human and the supernatural, good vs what is perceived as evil, is always a good foundation for a fantastic story. This book did not disappoint.

Just Ducky (Weird Shifters Series) by C.A. King. This is a great Young adult fantasy read. Its the story of Ducky who has the horrible fate of turning into a furry duck when she is nervous. Ducky is the black sheep of the town, most people are shape Shifters in the form of wolves, vampires and even felines but no she shifts into a duck. She is made fun of all the time and it is really getting her down. When she hears Vampire Lord Kobreon is looking for a bride, Ducky knows he won’t pick her but wants to catch a glimpse of him. Hiding in the bushes she pricks herself and makes a noise causing a lady to come towards her and she nervously shifts into a duckling. Scooping her up and taking her in the castle the Lord takes a shine to her and wants her by him at all times only as a duckling. The humans and shifters are almost at War and Lord Kobreon is the only one who can fix it. Will Ducky be able to escape the Castle and will Lord Kobreon be able to save the shifters and humans. Read this young adult novel to find out!

I am at the point with this super talented author that just seeing the name C.A. King means I need to read the book. She always creates such intriguing characters and interesting storylines and let me tell you this book is no exception! I loved Ducky and I really think her story is a truly great start to what I just know will be a fantastic series. If you love the paranormal genre then you are going to love this fun read.

A Patriot’s Tale: An American Revolutionary War Novel by Nicole Pierman was a really good book! Very easy to read and a page turner.
This book focuses on Lily, a orphan with a thirst for revenge against the redcoats who m*rdered her family. It follows her along as she meets a family who is able to help her reach a rebel settlement. From there, the storyline takes a surprising twist as the enemy commander at a nearby town is completely taken with her (no spoilers!). I definitely recommend this book!
Strong female character, good for mature teens (some war content) and YA. I also read that this was written when the author was 12! You can tell that it was written with a younger narative in mind, but I still really enjoyed it. Can’t wait to see what else this author publishes.

I love the writing style and imagination of this author. The cover and title immediately pulled me in. When I learned it was a supernatural story, I was even more excited to read. I have read many MANY supernatural stories but this is like no other that I have read before. The characters are well written and interesting. A duck shifter? The first for me for sure.
Ducky is someone that I feel many can relate to in a way. Obviously not in the supernatural element, but in the way that she has been bullied and mistreated her whole life. She is an outcast and a loner. She doesn’t fit in with the others. She is in love with the Lord but believes he would never be interested in her. The Lord is back to prevent war and rumor is he is looking for a bride. Ducky believes it could never be her but she wants to take a peek anyway.
This was a fun read and I am looking forward to future books in the series.

Ducky is a shifter that lives in the kingdom of shifters under the rule of Lord Kobreon, a vampire by humans naming. Kobreon is set to keep peace between all the kingdoms as he does not want a war between kingdoms. However in his travels it is rumored that he is looking for a bride and that is why he is coming home. This is when Ducky decides she wants to try and get at least a peek at him even though she feels he would want nothing to do with her. Ducky is a duck shifter and according to everyone has no qualities of a good shifter. On her trip to the castle she gets anxious that she will be seen and accidentally shifts into her duck form and is saved and taken into the castle, where Kobreon and his mother begin to fall for this duckling shifter. However she is only known as a shifter to his mother, Kobreon does not yet know. Will Kobreon be able to prevent the war and will he be able to keep his beloved duckling?

Wow, what an interesting book. Kudos to the Author Cori Cooper, for this interesting read.

First off, when I started reading I decided pretty much right away that Maddy, the main female character was not my favorite, I couldn’t understand these weird ticks that she had and her critical eye and quickness to aggravate and be on the offensive. But as the book went on I realized that all these things that I originally found unappealing set the character up for what her main story would be, the reveal of her character and who she really is. All these quirks that seemed weird to me suddenly became who she was and endearing qualities. And it’s wild how the author set the book up to work like that. I think the same goes for the male main character Leo, except I found him endearing, goofy, sweet, all the things I felt missing in Maddy I found in Leo, her best friend, the yin to her yang.

Her character work in this book is amazing, her focus on the main characters and making them relatable without making them predictable and the story predictable is what made reading this book so awesome. I honestly did not see where this book was going but I greatly enjoyed when I got there.

This book is part of a five part series but I read can be devoured as a standalone, the author has stated though that the main characters from this story will make an appearance in later installments in the series. I can’t wait for the next book to come out, this was such a fun, laugh out loud, sweet read.

Maddy receives a DNA test from Grams (her grandmother) after taking it she finds out that she is one quarter villain. It seems that her family has some explaining to do but before that happens Maddy is contacted by the VDA to determine if she is villainous. Leo her goofball of a best friend doesn’t take things seriously and gets into major trouble. Will Maddy be able to save her friend and get things back to normal without destroying things further? One Quarter Villain was a fun YA read due to the twists on the classic fairy tales. Like all fairy tales there is a lesson to be learned but will Maddy be able to have her happy ending? The start of the book was a good set up, but I feel like it was a little slow on giving out answers but once it did, I enjoyed the book even more. If you like reading fairy tales with a twist you will enjoy One Quarter Villain!

A unique take on shifters, which of course makes this an interesting read. Great worldbuilding. Characters you can connect with. It’s got a fairytale feel along with action, adventure and mystery.

Just Ducky by C.A King is about a world where Supernatural beings and Humans co-exist. During an era of peace and separation between the two. The Vampire Lord (Vampire being used loosely) is on a mission to heal the human princess. If he doesn’t find a cure then war will start. He finds a companion in Ducky after his mother rescues her. Unbeknownst to him Ducky is a shifter.

I thought the story was cute. Basically a remake of the Ugly Ducking with a supernatural twist on it. I like that the shifters and Vampires are not traditional at all. I’m excited for the next book.

One Quarter Villain is different. It takes everything we know about fairy tales and makes them part of reality. I’ve read this author before so I figured I’d give this book a chance. Honestly I feel like I have a love/hate relationship with this novel. The idea of the story is great. It’s the characters that have me being pulled in different directions. The main female lead goes through life feeling like everything is black and white. Not accepting that things can be a little bit of both. If it weren’t for her best friend, I’m not sure I would’ve been able to push through.
Maddy lives a life where she can do no wrong. Has no sense of adventure and just falls in line with all the rules set forth around her. Which makes it hard to believe that Leo is her best friend. I relate to Leo in so many ways. But he at least lives life where it’s not as serious as it seems, and has a sense of adventure. He also has a sense of protectiveness over Maddy.
If it wasn’t for a birthday gift from her grams, Maddy would still be living the same life. However, all that has changed. She’s part villain, and those tasked with rounding up villains want her to prove otherwise. Unfortunately, Leo thinks the whole thing is crazy and a joke. It also gets him erased from life. Now despite being told otherwise Maddy intends on rebelling so she can get Leo back from the Villainous world of Skurk.
Is she capable of blurring the lines?
Will she save Leo?
What will her family think of her total 180?
She grows through the story and becomes more likable. However don’t let that deter you from checking this book out. I will give it a solid 4 stars because as previously stated the idea/concept is different and great. I hope you enjoy!

I wasn’t sure what to think about this book at first. Ducky seemed to be a low level shifter that wasn’t going to amount to much. However, as soon as I got further into the story the more I smiled and even giggled when Ducky came face to face (kind of lol) with The King! This story is pretty different from other shifters stories so it really clumsy attention. The author did a fantastic job creating the characters, not just Ducky but all of them. I really liked the King’s mother Trisha.

Maddy is a little upset when she sees she’s received a DNA test from her grandmother for her birthday. I mean, what teenager would want to do this? Well, Maddy soon learns that she is one quarter villain. Life changes a little bit.

This is a fun twist on a fairy tale. It’s also a clean enough read that I can recommend it to young readers. I really appreciate that in a book! Prepare to read this in one setting, or at least where you can finish it in one or two because it will take off quickly!

Ducky is an outcast. Her whole town is filled with shifters. Wolf shifters, feline shifters, not to mention the vampire family that rules over the town. Meanwhile Ducky is a duckling shifter. One that can’t control her shifts either. She is ridiculed and made fun of all the time.

When word gets out that the Vampire Lord Kobreon is possibly looking for his potential bride, all the women line up to meet him. Even Ducky wants to meet him. She knows that it is impossible that she will be the one chosen but wants to at least catch a glimpse of the mystery man. Hiding in a bush she ends up pricking herself and making a sound, when a woman starts towards the bush, Ducky panics and transforms. The woman scoops her up and brings her into the castle out of harm’s way. Kobreon sees the duckling and instantly takes a liking to her wanting to keep her as a companion. She has to stay in the castle longer than intended under the guise of being just a duckling.

The treaty between humans and shifters is on the brink of shattering due to the human princess being poisoned. The humans are blaming the shifters and demand a culprit and a cure or else war will be imminent. It’s up to Kobreon to find a cure to make sure his people are safe. Especially Ducky.

I thought this was a cute story. At first I wasn’t sure about it because the premise of a duckling and a vampire kind of sounded weird to me. Who would have feelings for a duckling?! Instead you get a platonic relationship between the two for the most part. Ducky feels like a failure and needs to learn how to properly control herself. She has no confidence. She works to find herself outside of being just a ducky. Kobreon has the weight of the world on his shoulders but no one to share the weight with. Just having Ducky around has helped give him hope. They both have their problems and at the end of the day they can cuddle up and relax.

So far, I have read quite a few of C.A. King’s books and loved them! This also falls in that category. The author has a way of writing about something unique and out there making it so you never have a dull moment reading their books!

I just devoured “One Quarter Villain” by Cori Cooper, and I’m still reeling from the delightful surprise that awaited me within its pages (early on the book, the. quote “Every good fairy tale needs a villain” hooked me).
Who says a villain can’t have a happy ending? Not Cori Cooper, that’s for sure! In this charming and lighthearted tale, Cooper challenges the traditional notion of villainy by crafting a relatable and lovable protagonist who just happens to be one-quarter villain.

Cooper’s writing is engaging and effortless, making it easy to become invested in Maddy’s journey. The author’s humor and wit are on full display, particularly in the character of Maddy’s best friend, Leo Romano, who is the perfect foil to Maddy’s straight-laced personality. Their banter and friendship are a highlight of the book.

One of the most impressive aspects of “One Quarter Villain” is its thoughtful exploration of identity and morality. Cooper asks important questions about what makes us good or evil, and whether our choices are shaped by our DNA or our environment. The book’s themes are timely and relevant, making it a great read for anyone looking for a story that will linger long after the final page is turned.

I really enjoyed reading it and will be looking for more books by Ms. Cooper in the future! Maddy was such a believable and relatable character, who is struggling with who she is and who she wants to be. I swear if you want to read some out of the box unique paranormal books C.A. king is the author to read. This is not the first book I have read by this author and I knew when I saw the cover I just had to pick it up. I just knew I’d be in for a crazy wonderful ride and I was right this book was filled with you know the usual vampires, wolves, etc., but also the not so usual never seen before shifters (at least in none of the books I’ve ever read). It also has action, adventure, danger, romance, forced proximity and fantasy. This is the second book of the Weird Shifters Series. The first being Happy Hump Day which I know have to go read 🥰 I can’t wait to read more of the authors work. If you haven’t Already read it, get it now. I mean have you ever read a book about a DUCK Shifter, probably not. 🥰 you won’t regret It.

This was an interesting twist to the normal shaft shifters that you read about. This one was about a girl; Ducky could shift to a duck. Ducky feels like an outside, she has no friends and didn’t grow up in the greatest of homes. War for so long with the humans and the paranormal, but is there any way that maybe they can solve this and stop it all? and can Ducky help in anyway, she becomes friends with the prince, but can she save him? This story captivating from the beginning, it was so much in such a short read, well that it felt like. I can’t wait for the next book, the way this one ended don’t skip this book, you’ll want to read them in order.

An enjoyable and engaging YA fantasy story which kept me happily turning the pages. Maddy wasn’t overly pleased with the DNA test she received from her Grams for her birthday, but reluctantly takes the test. She is then shocked to discover that she is one-quarter villain, she didn’t even know it could show up in your blood. She can’t believe the results especially as she always follows all of the rules, from being hyper-aware of traffic laws to following the vague suggestions on posters. Everyone knows that they can depend on Maddy, and that she will always do the right thing in every situation. Maddy wants to discover the truth about her family history but she soon finds herself in the middle of a real-life fairy tale. Suddenly she’s surrounded with magic and mischief but she may also find her HEA that every girl dreams about. Just because she’s a villain by blood doesn’t mean she has to be one, she just has to choose who she will be! This was an entertaining and fun read with an intriguing storyline and quirky characters which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The characters and the setting were brought vividly to life through the descriptive narrative and I felt immersed in the story.

This was a fun YA cozy mystery cum fantasy tale. Maddy follows the rules to the book, and stays away from the scissors. Her granny sends her a DNA test on her birthday and well, it so happens she is 25% villain in her genes. She is flabbergasted. And then begins her adventure with her dearest friend Leo who is also pulled into all the circus. Maddy becomes more mindful and self aware and starts doing things more selflessly. It is such a thought provoking tale. A very different kind of a book !

Eh its okay. I liked the thought of weird shifters. I struggled with the flow of the story and romance part. I felt for Ducky and her loneliness but I am not sure about the third form. That was different. I personally was unliking of that element of the story but see how it helped move the story another way. The ending was abrupt in the relationship area but came to a conclusion in the secondary story

First the cover of this book caught my attention then the idea of a duck shifter had my curiosity peaked. The story behind this eye catching cover was absolutely amazing and a fresh take on an animal shifter book. 

An odd shifter out as a duckling compared to all the larger animal shifters. Our main character is made to feel out of place and like she just doesn’t belong. Following along her journey to finding herself was and possibly snagging the Prince she has been crushing on?

Cannot wait to read the next book in the series!

Being a duck shifter in the middle of shifters of larger useful animals is like being a carrot in a donut shop. Ducky is an outsider. No friends and lots of enemies. She had been attacked and verbally abused all her life. When the Vampire King comes to meet with people of her town she finds herself brought into the place when she inadvertently changes to a duckling. Someone from the place saves her from being trampled and killed by the mass of people trying to see the King. The king is on a quest that will lead to war if he doesn’t complete it. Will war come for the humans and shifters? Read the book and find out. Excited to read book two.

From the moment I started reading I found this book to be original, fun and such a refreshing read. The idea that our blood can be used to detect whether or not we are a villain is a fascinating idea and this author has created a brilliant story from that.
I thought the characters matched the premise of the story really well too. I became invested in their story and found them to be engaging and relatable. I have read other books by this author and I can safely say this one is my favourite so far!
