This is a fun filled YA fantasy story that I found myself being pulled in by straight away. I loved that the book was set in New Orleans. It felt like the author must have really captured what it is like and I found I could image the scenes with ease. I really enjoyed the mix of characters in the book. With everything going on within the City I liked how they each added something to the overall story while Miranda still shone as the heroine. This author really knows how to bring a diverse range to her work and this is another success to add to the list.

I really enjoyed this book, it was a fun mix of magic entering the real world and how it could affect different people. I have read several books by this author and this one is definitely one of my favorites. The characters were well developed, the plot was original and fun, and overall the story flowed perfectly. There is a second part to this story so don’t expect everything to be wrapped up in a little bow. Personally I can’t wait to read the next part.

Self-discovery, growing up and magic This is the first part of The Emergence Duology and lays a foundation for our MC., Miranda. I really liked the story and was swept away with Miranda’s journey of self-discovery, friendships and life challenges. I am really keen to explore the magical side as now I feel relationships are set up and the stage is set for more to come. I enjoyed the flow of the story and the way the author interspersed the humour to balance some of the heavier aspects of the story. Looking forward to second part in book 2.

Miranda Stone is a typical sixteen year old girl from a conservative family. When she all of a sudden developed magical powers, she knew her parents would not take it well so she decided to flee. Miranda took what little money she had and went to New Orleans to become a singer. She finds a cheap motel and starts her new life. Instantly she becomes friends with her neighbours Billie and Neeta. She finds a job being an opener for a drag club and thinks that she can find a new life here.
Unfortunately this isn’t the case. Women from all over the world are developing the same powers as Miranda and then have gone missing after being found out. Miranda starts to fear for her life along with the others while trying to maintain a somewhat normal life. Miranda even meets the girl of her dreams. She knows love is a bad idea with everything going on but she can’t help the instant intense connection she has with this girl.
This book was exciting and reminded me of a more modern day of the Salem witch trials. Men all around the world are turning in these women to never be seen again. I did find the book was slower paced than I would have liked but still kept my full attention. I will be looking forward to the next installment!

The Magical Summer of Miranda Stone is the first instalment in The Emergence Duology by A.D. Brazeau. This is a YA fantasy, with magical realism, self-discovery, music, fun, friendship, romance, drama, complication, challenges, humour, and quirky characters. I thought it was a great ‘start’ to the story, but as this is a duology, the story is set to continue in book #2. I was intrigued by the story and characters and thought the setting of New Orleans, the fact that our mc is a runaway 16 year-old, friendship, ‘found’ family, and self-discovery added an interesting element to the well thought out and woven storyline. I would have liked to have seen/explored more of the magical side of the plot…. but will wait to see what develops in Book #2. Happy reading!

I highly recommend reading Mis-Spelled! Evan suddenly gets transported to a different dimension filled with adventure and fairytale creatures. Evan must figure out how to survive in Stellaluna and figure out a way to get back home. I really enjoyed the magic system of Stellaluna. Every race has different magic and humans are able to learn them all thus becoming mages/ wizards. The book is well-written and uses puns to be funny, even the chapter names. Evan is consistently making jokes that the reader understands but the people of Stellaluna are left scratching their heads. The characters and relationships between them are believable. There is enough of a twist from the well-known stories to be interesting. Often times I had a hard time putting down the book and had to read a few pages of the next chapter before I could. The ending of the book is wrapped up nicely with no cliffhanger, but I still can’t wait to pick up the next book!

I really enjoyed this story. It was a fun mixture of magic entering the real world and how it affects people. I love Miranda’s character. All she wants is to be a typical teenager but that all changes when women start to find they have magical powers. At first she is scared and unsure but it’s nice to see her character grow and become more of a confident person as the story progresses. I love how the story slowly unravels. The author keeps us guessing and wondering what will happen which keeps me gripped to a story. I can’t wait to see what happens next

I really like AD’s work as you never know what you she will come up with next and when I saw this book, I jumped at the chance to get started. The Magical Summer of Miranda Stone is a fun YA supernatural tale set in the magical, musical world of New Orleans and is book one in The Emergence Duology.
It’s easy to compare the story to that of Salem and the witch trials as the women of the world suddenly find themselves able to do magic. But it’s not all doom and gloom quite the opposite as there is humour to be found.
Despite the world being in turmoil and authorities lurking sixteen-year-old Miranda finds a new family with quirky friends and an unexpected romance.

I fell in love with this story. Miranda. She has an amazing story. The summer she hits her teen, magic starts leaking out of her hands. All of sudden, everyone including family, looks at her funny. Women are disappearing so she runs away to New Orleans. From there, the drama happens. Right from the start, it feels reminiscent of the Salem Witch Trials. I found the story exciting, scary, adventurous, and interesting. Here she is 16 and off to do her own thing by necessity. I found the descriptions in the book perfect for the imagination. The characters were well-developed and just perfect for the story (unique and very quirky). A perfect YA fantasy story. I can’t wait to read the next one.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. It is absolutely amazing. The characters are well thought out and developed. The plot is engaging and absolutely hilarious at times.
Evan is the character you just have to love. The book starts out rough but he protects another and gets mysteriously thrust into a new realm, one of fairies, dwarves, elves and trolls. In order to get back to the human realm and his family he must complete 3 tasks for the elven queen. Piece of cake right? Not even a little, each task is more difficult than the last and with little support Evan must learn to negotiate deals to learn other’s magic to use in his quests. What happens though when those who deal like to try to twist words? Be careful of the words used to make deals after all most of these magical creatures are only in it when it benefits them more than you.
I really enjoyed how Evan, unlike his brothers, resorts to solving the problems with peaceful solutions rather than violence. He is a very careful yet resourceful person who will need all his smarts to make it out of this realm. I could not put this book down and just had to keep reading one more chapter to find out what happened next. If you like fantasy books with some mystery, action, adventure, and comedy then this is definitely the book for you. I will be recommending this book to many friends, it is that good.

This first installment to this series really has a little bit of everything for everyone. Full of great word building, magic, action, mythological creatures and more I just simply couldn’t put it down. I was Originally drawn to this book by its beautiful and bright cover. But the minute that I read the first chapter I knew I was hooked. So whether your looking for your next great read or your in a reading slump I would highly recommend this amazing book. Wilf Gilvary is a young man living in Hong Kong and is obsessed by soccer, but his family, not so much, they would much rather he focuses on his magic, but that is the last thing he wants. It is something he argues with his father about a lot and the more his father pushes him, the more he pushes back, one day in particular they have a huge argument while Wilf is looking for something, especially since while he is sneaking around looking for it, the Mages Crystal which has been in his family for generations shatters.
Later on that morning, while he is at soccer practice, his father mysteriously dies and leaves his magical heritage to Wilf, he now has a decision to make, meanwhile in the magical world there is a political battle raging between the witches and wizards and this has led to a mysterious virus attacking the population. This virus is causing both witches and wizards alike to change, it is also causing them to lose their magic as the virus progresses, the main symptom is a change in appearance, instead of the ugliness this community prizes, the victims are becoming beautiful as well.
As Wilf speaks to one of the witches about his fathers journal, he realises that it holds the key to curing this virus, but it turns out that his father has spelled it so that the only way it can be read is for Wilf to develop his magical skills. This becomes even more stressful for Wilf when the one friend he has made since moving to the magical community is infected by the virus and he knows the only way to help is to embrace his magic and carry out his fathers wishes, but can he do it in time? This is a magical adventure filled with political intrigue, as well as emotional ups and downs as a young man comes to term with his future and the changes he needs to make. It is a gripping tale which will keep you reading as you become invested in the story and the characters within it.

This fantasy novel was unique, and so interesting that I found myself half way through the book before I knew it. There were so many paranormal creatures in this novel that I could safely say that it has something for everyone. The story was well done, the plot flowed easily, and the characters were very well developed. While I have never read anything from Thai author before I will definitely be looking for more.

Well, Evan is certainly having a challenging day. Getting chased by his brother ends with falling into the land of elfs. He meets a dragon-morphing girl and many little elves. He ends up on many adventures with her. This story is a fun fantasy full of humor, adventure, and wit. I love the characters. You can feel the quirky personalities. The storyline flows fairly smooth. It’s an enjoyable tale that many will like with dragons, elves, and more.

Mis-Spelled is the first book in the Stellaluna Chronicles by T.H. Leatherman. It is a fun YA fantasy with wonderful world-building, plenty of action, adventure, magic, different realms/alternate world element, wizards, elves, goblins, trolls, fairies, other mythical creatures, friendship drama, contracts, challenges, intriguing developments, and some self-discovery. This was such a fun read- a great little quest. My first read from T.H. Leatherman, but if this is anything to go by, it certainly won’t be my last. Looking forward to the rest of the series. The students are to get treasures using magic back to their academy. I loved the twists and turns and how the competition ended. Trust is hard to give to another. Did Makayla’s trust get broken? The Virus of Beauty (The Virus of Beauty Book 1) by C.B. Lyall. This is such a good young adult fantasy read. Its the story of Wilf Gilvary who has magic abilities but is terrified to use it. He is afraid that if he uses it and something goes wrong it could really hurt someone. He likes to pretend he is just a normal boy. There is a terrible virus going around among the witches and once his friend catches it he realizes he has to do something. Wilf’s dad has died suddenly and he finds himself in the midst of a battle between the witches and wizards. He doesn’t realize but he may be the only one with magic strong enough to stop the battle. Wilf has to overcome his fear of his magic in order to save his friend and all the witches. There are battles upon battles that will keep you flipping pages late in the night. Even though this was a young adult read I really enjoyed it. Read The Virus of Beauty to see if Wilf overcomes his fear of his magic to save his friends!

The Gauntlet is the very first book from The Soppranaturale Series by Ashley Pagano. This story takes you right in to the setting of a hotel, known in the supernatural world to be a safe haven for those with magical abilities, and known in the human world to simply be haunted. Link is a fae who works at the front desk of the hotel. While he is working, the only other fae in the world walks into the hotel with her fiancé, and his life completely changes. He feels an intense energy in her presence that he cannot fathom ignoring. Eventually they interact, and he finds himself saying too much and doing things he said he’d never do again.
This book has a bit of everything supernatural, which I always love. It was a very fast-paced read but there was so much within the pages to pull you right into the story and make you feel like you’re there with them. I really enjoyed this read from beginning to end and I definitely look forward to the next book. Also, I must say the cover to this book is absolutely beautiful!

What a magical and adventurous book for the first in the series! I’m not sure how book 2, The Veil of Corruption, could get any better, but I am sure sticking around to find out. I lost quite a bit of sleep getting lost in this story, but I’m fine with it. Good books are worth staying up late for!
Our main character is Wilf Gilvary, who is a teenage wizard. He just wants to be a normal teenager and is not in favor of using his magic in pursuit of that normalcy. Once his friend catches the virus, his hand is forced into learning and using his magical abilities. The problem is that magic isn’t easy to pick up. Will he be able to save his friend, or will his fears impede his ability to learn it quick enough?
I truly loved this original YA fantasy. I am excited to see what the rest of the series brings. Don’t hesitate to pick it up now so you can binge the entire series like I’m about to!

Link works at The Soppranaturale to the unknowing eye, it is an up market hotel with all the glamour and pizazz the high rollers in society would want, plus a good old Irish bar in the basement and Link has been working there so long now that he is practically the owners right hand man. Ommily is a young woman who is on holiday with her fiancée and because she is obsessed with all things supernatural, she insists that they stay on one that is reportedly haunted.
The moment that Ommily walks in the door, all eyes are on her, men and women alike and she doesn’t seem to even have an idea, but Link is just as distracted as everyone else when he starts to check a man in at the front desk, but as soon as Ommily and Link set eyes on each other, there is a reaction that neither of them can deny. Thankfully, Links boss is there to give a hand and take over from him, at least until the two lovebirds move away to go to their room, this is where it is confirmed that that reaction was nothing normal, Link has just found the only other Faerie in the world and she is already taken.
This leads to Link drowning his sorrows and Ommily to wander into the bar just as he stops a fight breaking out, this leads to a question and answer session where Ommily finds out the truth she has always wanted to know, that werewolves, vampires and shapeshifters really exist and that she can be a part of their world, but unfortunately, her fiancée cannot. This leads to her finding out that together her and Link can be the strongest pair in the world with their opposite control of the uses of the four elements, but in order to be able to use these abilities to protect those around them, they first have to face The Gauntlet, but can they work together and make the hard decisions needed without killing each other first? This is a fantasy where life is not just black and white, humans and supernaturals, there is a balance which needs to be maintained and protecting that balance is the hardest thing to do and this is why this story will keep you engaged throughout as the fight for survival takes place.

I thought the book was going to capture me, as I like witchcraft and magic in stories. However, I felt rather lost like Wilf (the main character in my opinion). This is suppose to be the book 1 of the series but I felt like I was missing something throughout the story. Maybe if I continue into the series, it might pull me in. I really want to continue the series so keep a lookout for my next review of book 2.

I got hooked from the very beginning of this book. All of the supernatural creatures exist together in this series. They live in a supernatural refuge masked as a hotel. Link and Ommily are faeries, one turns evil and the other is trying to protect everyone . I’m ready to read the next book in the series.

The Soppranaturales hotel is a great place to go if you’re not human. Vampires, witches, werewolves and much more reside here under the human radar and its kind of like a safe house for monsters. Link is the last known Fae and lives at the Soppranaturales hotel and works as a clerk. His life is completely changed when Ommily enters the hotel and he realizes that she is also Fae. As the last 2 fairies on the planet, they have the potential to be the most powerful beings alive but they have to prove that they are as powerful as they’re supposed to be. Both of these characters are impulsive and it had me shaking my head throughout the whole novel. The descriptions of the surroundings and the use of magic was very detailed and easy to envision. I’m not ready to check out of the Soppranaturales hotel but; alas there are no more pages.

The Virus of Beauty is Book One in the Virus of Beauty Series. In the first book we are introduced to teenage wizard, Wilf, who would rather play soccer than use his magic because he is terrified of magic. When his father dies suddenly, he finds himself thrust into the political battle between wizards and witches in the Magical Realm. As a virus starts spreading throughout the witch community turning all the witches beautiful, Wilf must overcome his fears of using magic to help his friend Katryna who has contracted the virus.
This book was an intriguing read as it put an interesting twist on the concept of beauty. In the world of witches, the uglier you are the more powerful you are as a witch and beauty is considered a sin. This gives one a lot to think about in a society where so much emphasis is placed on being beautiful and perfect. The characters were well developed, and I found the character of Wilf interesting because as a wizard he had no desire to use magic. I loved Ermintrude’s no nonsense approach to things. A must read for anyone who loves books about witches, wizards, mystery, action, and adventure.
