Ashes (Modern-Day Fairy Tale Book 1) by MK Harkins – Review by Tandy Kibbler

Ashes (Modern-Day Fairy Tale, #1)Ashes by M.K. Harkins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a modern day retelling of Cinderella. We basically learn this by reading the prologue of the story, and I thought “ugh, this is going to be a cheesy read”. Ashley is our high school Cinderella, and Henry is her charming prince. She’s so done with finding any true love in this world, and honestly, just wants to finish school and get away from that dreadful stepmother. Fortunately the fairies, one in particular, takes on Ashley’s case, to see that Ashley finds love.

This is a light-hearted read, that read quick for me, despite my initial impression. Ashley and Henry click and the stars have aligned. However, Ashley’s stepmother and stepsisters have other plans and plot their way to spoil the happiness. Without saying anything else, you will just have to read this to find out how it ends.

Caged Fire (The Vigilant Book 1) by LM Preston – Review by Shelly Kittell

Caged Fire (Vigilant, #1)Caged Fire by L.M. Preston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book packs a punch. It is a definite knockout. EmVee is one brave young woman with some supernatural talents that is out to find out who killed her father and what happened to her family. Favorites from The Void such as Kyson, Rachel, and…eh…Megan are back to help EmVee get answers along with new friends, Demi and Sax. Secrets abound, along with monsters. This author writes a book that has you holding your breath because the action gets more intense the further into the story you go. We learn so much more about The Vigilant as you get into the story. (Is that the group EmVee’s father was part of?) The characters are insanely complex and yet, young adults just wanting to live life. The plot is smooth with twists that fit right in. It comes together like the perfect waterfall. The antagonist just wants to cause trouble and not be found. They do that so very well. EmVee will not give up I like the message the story gives. It’s okay to ask for help. Girls can do anything they put their mind to. It’s also a body positive story. She’s a fighter but also wants to be seen as feminine. Great story. I love the whole series. This is book #1. You should reada this.

For fans of STORM AND FURY and MORTAL INSTRUMENTS. The Ascended Guardians series is a supernatural thrill-ride that never lets up.

It’s been over ten years since fifteen-year-old Zoey Taylor wandered away from her family home in the middle of the night. Or so she’s been told, repeatedly, by her mother—but the only thing Zoey knows for sure is that when her older brother, Corinth, found her in the woods, safe and unharmed, she returned with a crippling fear of the dark and no other memories from those lost days—except strange flashes of sharp teeth and red-flaming hair.

Since that time, she’s become a star pupil and is on track to graduate early … if, and that’s a big IF, her overprotective family doesn’t get in the way of her dreams first.

But when one of the wealthiest, enigmatic philanthropists on the planet—Gabriel Stanton—shows up on her doorstep on Thanksgiving Day and reveals the truth about what really happened to her all those years ago, it completely shatters her perception of the world.

And the story isn’t anything like what she’s been told.

YA fantasy adventure story
This intriguing quick read is book 1.5 in the Twilight Realm series. The author creates a fantastical world with elves, magic, adventure and even dragons. There is a unique flavour to the writing that I enjoyed and kept me engaged from start to finish. I am looking forward to continuing this series.

I truly love a great fantasy story and this was definitely one. This YA Fantasy is something that will appeal to all ages and anyone who loves a good elven adventure. Yarissa was a strong and amazing character, and I felt a connection from chapter 1. As she ventures into the Night Realm she becomes everything she did not think she could be doing things she did not believe she could do. She will be taken upon an amazing magical adventure with plenty of laughter, action, excitement, and life lessons attached. This tale brought to life is not one that should be missed!

Twilight Realm has easily become one of my top three fantasy universes. This is my 2nd book by the this author and in the series and I was not disappointed. The writing in this book is so descriptive I can seriously see the scenes playing out as I read. I love that there isn’t any difficult language to understand even though this is fantasy. I like how easy to read, get entertaining this book was!

This second book of this series was fantastic and I highly recommend to read this series in order. If you are a lover of YA Fantasy like I am definitely take a leap and dive in to this story of magic, elves and adventure!

Yarissa wants to a be a warrior and finished up her training and wants to become one of the Elites, but ends up being a spy and on a mission to find a missing princess. Her journey, though not easy, but finds herself trapped in the Night Realm. Yarissa is a fighter, has to use her magic in ways and I loved that about her character… strong and a survivor. Will Yarissa survive the Night Realm while trying to find a missing princess?

I cannot wait to see how this series continues!! Totally Enjoyable!

This book is in a series, kind of a bridge between books one and two. While it works as a stand alone, I highly recommend reading the first book as it answers some questions and is in the same realm. I loved reading about Yarissa almost as much as I loved being back in this series. She is strong, playful, and sassy which made her very appealing. She is relatable that she thinks she has her life planned out and then discovers life doesn’t always work the way we plan. This was another great book, and I really enjoyed it!

This next installment to this series was even better then the first. Full of a quest, dragons, elves, emotions, drama, and more I just simply couldn’t not put this fantasy book down. Once again the word building is original, and our author certainly stops at nothing to bring her characters, and story to life. I know personally I can’t wait to see what happens in this terrific series next.

The author did a fantastic job of creating her own world. The elves rule five realms, this one takes place in the Twilight Realm. It is a fantasy adventure filled with magic, dragons and fantastical creatures. Phoenix is only thirteen when his parents, the king and queen are murdered. He goes into hiding for his own safety. When the time is right, he will step up and become the king that he was meant to be. Zoe has no love loss for her parents who experimented on her as if she was a lab rat. She manages to escape and stays hidden for many years. Fate brings these two together and with the help of some friends, they attempt to rid the realm of the evil that has spread. I think this is a great start to this series. A very entertaining story.

This is a wonderful young adult adventure filled with elves, dragons and magic. Yarissa is a spy that’s sent to the Night Realm to get word to the king. This realm has its own dangers and doesn’t take kindly to outsiders. After tragedy hits, she is left on her own to finish the assignment. Yarissa discovers many things about herself and her growth is amazing. She is strong and determined which is great qualities in a female lead character. Although the story is short and ends on a cliffhanger, it fits perfectly between book one and two of the series. It’s a captivating and interesting story.

I forgot how much I loved the first book until I read this one.(Book 1.5). This book hooked me from the first line. Yarissa’s is a young elf hellbent on joining the elite branch after finishing her training. She believes that’s the best way to prevent the events of the first book (if you haven’t read it yet please do) from happening again. Through a mission asked of her by the king of Twilight himself, she learns that there may be others ways to serve and protect the kingdom. She learns more about her power, strength, and herself as the story unfolds. It’s action packed with a hint of romance. Definitely a good read. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out.

This author did not disappoint! I definitely recommend reading the first book so you have some back story to the realms. The stories are well written so you can picture everything as you are reading. Yarissa is a fierce character especially after she realizes her strength. In the beginning she thinks she knows where she belongs but goes on a mission only to realize she may have been wrong. This story has some new characters that you aren’t sure if Yarissa should trust. She’s still young by elf standards and does a lot of growing throughout the story. I’m really glad the author did this in between story. I can’t wait to read book 2 to see where the story goes for the Twilight Realm!

This book is part of a young adult series that I fell in love with after reading the first book. This is technically book two but is called book one and a half. This book helps answer some of the questions I was left with following the first book. I loved how the author managed to make this into a short story but can fill in so many missing details. I laughed, I cried, and at times I was downright angry with some characters. But when it was complete I felt like this book achieved a lot in the small amount of story that we were given. However, it did just make me want to know more. I highly suggest reading the first book before picking this one up. Otherwise, you will be a little confused. If you like, or love as I do, young adult books please pick up these stories.

Twilight’s Spy is a amazing YA/ Fantasy story that is fast paced and hard to put down once you start. I love that this author is giving us this story which is in-between books one and two. This introduces us to new characters and gives back story which I love. I highly recommend reading the first book if you haven’t already as its just as good as this one. This is a fairly new author to me but I’m a fan already. This story is packed with adventure, action, magic, drama and so much more. Yarissa just finished her training and wants to be apart of the Elites. What happens when she’s sent out on a spy mission to the Night Realm? Being a spy really isn’t what she wants to be but the amazing friends she meets along the way . She really wants to keep her people safe. I highly recommend reading this fast-paced story to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

This is book 1.5 of the Twilight realm trilogy and I was not disappointed. I fell in love with the first book and now I’m in love with the second. I love this authors way of writing. The way she can bring the plot alive and write the characters beautifully. It’s like you are right next to the characters, experiencing everything the same way they are in that moment. This book is for you if you like strong female leads who aren’t afraid to face impossible opponents.
I’m excited to see how the author continues this trilogy in the near future.

Twilight’s Spy (Twilight Realm Trilogy Book 1.5) by K.M. Wray – Review by Santana Hicks

Twilight's SpyTwilight’s Spy by K.M. Wray
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Yarissa never wanted to be a spy. Her plan was to complete her training and then join the elites, which is a group of warriors. On her last assignment as a trainee, she was to get information on how to cross the Haltiya Ravine. She succeeded when no other elf did. That put her in the eyes of the King and he personally asked her to continue her spy work into the night realm. As much as she didn’t want to go this path, she couldn’t say no to the king. Yarissa’s plan was to complete the mission and return with the favour of the king. The only obstacle is survival and inexperience. A bad combination indeed.

This book was a great short background story of Yarissa, fitting nicely in between book one and two of this series. My only issue with it is that it was kind of repetitive. It felt like the author was just filling in space to make the story longer.

I LOVE the way this author writes! I was completely immersed into the story from the beginning. The fable flows along nicely and nothing seems forced which make it enjoyable to the reader. I can just fall into the story and let the author take me on the journey.

I enjoyed meeting Brie and following her on her path. She changed a lot over the course of the story. She had doubts but eventually did research and believed then all the good came. Her interaction with others is what bolstered her confidence after getting over the fear. I really liked the humor that was brought to this book as the story drew to a close.

Overall this is the second book I have read by this author in this series. I liked thins one as much as the previous. As stated before its the building of the story and its characters along with her fluidity that makes this such an entertaining story.

Twilight’s Spy was good! I do like this series and am really looking forward to book 2. I couldn’t believe the cliffhanger this one was left on. I was thinking it may not be a completed mission while reading it, but definitely thought it would’ve gotten further than that!
Now that the Twilight Realm has been reclaimed by the royal family, who they thought parished years before, King Phoenix is looking to bring his sister home. Taken and hidden in the Night Realm the night of the attack that killed his parents, King Phoenix has been doing what he can to get word to the Night Realm King for her return. To no avail.
Yarissa just finished her last trainee assignment as a spy, looking to join the Elites has been summoned. Due to their success on their spy mission Yarissa and Tagreth have been asked to enter the Night Realm to personally get word to the king. Although King Phoenix implies to Yarissa the mission won’t be complete without the return of Princess Zyanna.
Unfortunately early on the mission is soured by great tragedy, leaving Yarissa to complete it on her own. Assisted along by Logon and Sahina is Yarissa successful? The Night Realm doesn’t take kindly to outsiders, does this make her mission more difficult? Are there higher powers at play?
I’m starting to wonder if regents, who took hold in the Twilight Realm are ingrained and controlling the others as well. Especially the Night Realm!
The author presents a wonderful fantasy world that has me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for more!

I enjoyed this fantasy story. This book is part of the Twilight Realm series which if you haven’t read the previous book then I highly suggest it is just as great as this one. This is a great series that I have enjoyed reading. One of the things I enjoyed about this book is how the author was able to bring it to life with their writing skills and attention to details. This is a story that is fast paced and engaging. A well written story where the characters pull you in from the beginning. I found them to be connectable, strong and supportive of each other. They really made the story for me. This is a story about survival or death. Which one the character chooses you don’t want to miss. A story that is full of action and just hard to put down. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.
