After enjoying the first book in the series so much I was looking forward to reading this one. It is a great follow up and was lovely to be reintroduced to the characters. This boon is a YA mystery story and although it is firmly aimed at a younger audience it is still another one I thoroughly enjoyed. The story is well thought out and original. It has a mix of everything thrown in – mystery, Adventure, humour, Suspense. It easily draws you in keeps you excited for else might be to come. This is a great book.

Like my review of book 1 of Gumshoe Mysteries, I found this book to be better engaging for the middle grades crowd, instead of the targeted YA audience. I appreciated the insights to all the intricate components of a quinceanara, and thought Mia’s fears about school shootings were realistic yet poignant.
My favorite parts of the book, akin to book #1, was the banter between Mia and Gumshoe, and the words/phrases they use (and misunderstand each other) due to the centuries of age difference between the two. I eagerly await for book #3!

Although targeted to an older audience, to me, Gumshoe and the Mysterious Mushrooms is a perfect middle grade book, and explores how Mia gets to know her familiar, the cat Gumshoe, as she solves the mystery and saves her family’s restaurant.
The writing style is refreshing, and with the onset of kid cooking shows, I think this book would be a great hit with youngsters (as well as myself!). I can’t wait to read the second book in the series and find out what other mysteries this sleuthing pair can solve.

I wish I had paid more attention and read the first two books in the Shadowstalker Series. With not having the whole story it did make the book harder to read but is doable. You just miss a lot. It is a YA fantasy story full of adventure. The characters are great and everything runs real well together pulling you into the story. I definitely recommend reading the first two and then this one but a great series.

I absolutely loved this book! It’s an intense journey with pirates, powers, twists and turns, and so much more! This is the first book by Brittany Tucker I have read and she absolutely amazed me! She has a wonderful way with words, this book actually just came to life! Every scene was just so vivid and gripping! I laughed, I cried, I could feel every emotion she was portraying like it was my own! I really hope there is a second book in this series because I am not ready to leave Cam and Annie yet! I look forward to the next book by Ms. Tucker I can get my hands on! I highly recommend The Calamities of Camden Callahan to any adventurer looking for a special journey!

This is the second book in this series which is just as great as the first one and I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly suggest reading the previous book in this series as well to help your enhancement of the characters and this author. Gumshoe is back in another great story with another mystery to solve. She is such a great character and I enjoy what she adds to the story. In this installment she finds herself trying to save a fifteen year old’s birthday party before it is ruined. A story that pulls you into the dark world of corruption. It has suspense and twists and turns you don’t want to miss. I enjoyed how I was pulled into the story from the start by the author’s use of details. There is great growth of the story throughout which makes it easy to read. This is an entertaining story that is fast paced and engaging. I look forward to seeing what happens with Gumshoe next. I highly recommend this book.

Gumshoe Goes to A Quinceanera is the second book in the Gumshoe Mysteries series by Laura Hawks. Having read and enjoyed several of Ms. Hawks’ books previously, there was no question that I would be passing this by when it released, as I knew it would be a fun read. It is a YA cozy mystery, with paranormal elements, humour, banter, action, adventure, whimsy, secrets, corruption, friendship, and intrigue. The story was well woven, suspenseful, and entertaining- and even though it was a little predictable in parts and is targeted towards younger readers- I still really enjoyed it. The characters are cleverly crafted into fully realised individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. The story is original, with a great pace and a smooth flow, making for an easy read. As I have said before, Ms. Hawks always manages to intrigue me with her clever storylines, and this story was no different. I loved meeting Mia in the first book, and especially Gumshoe- who really steals the show, every time. So I was looking forward to catching up with them again and enjoyed following them along on this second adventure. Now I am forward to seeing what they get up to next. Well worth the read! This is the really cute story of Mia and her familiar, Gumshoe, and they are trying to find a murderer before Mia’s friend has her Quinceanera ruined. This story is very entertaining and Gumshoe had my giggling the whole way through. Shadows Fall is the third book in the series. I would definitely recommend reading them in order so you get a full understanding of what is happening. However, I didn’t do this and was still able to figure it all out and enjoy the story. This is a great YA fantasy story that is imaginative and well written. You are pulled straight into the story with ease and I could not wait to see what was going to happen. The characters fit really well with the story. They were original and refreshing and I connected with them immediately. This is a new author to me and I can say for sure that the first thing I will be doing is going back to read the other books in the series.

This is the third book in this series. I did not have the opportunity to read the first two before reading Shadow’s Fall. I was able to keep up, however I would like to go back and start at the beginning. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. It’s a dark fantasy story with a wonderfully written main character named Rose. I connected with her very easily. I do recommend this book, however do start at the beginning of the series.

His search brings him into a partnership that needs him to claim his true identity. Can he find his captain and friends before his past catches up to him? Will he be able to turn an acquaintance into a partner before it’s too late?
This was my first time reading this author and I truly enjoyed reading this book. I loved getting to know Camden and his mates, as well as his newfound friends. This wasn’t at all what I was expecting as I got deeper into the book. I did like the justice that was served and the opening for more books in this series. The fact that there is room for character growth is what will bring me back to read the next book. I want to see the fallout continue for the people pulling the strings, per se. Overall, I felt that it was very well written and well thought out.

Another winner with this adventure for Mia & Gumshoe. Mia is trying to fulfill her promise to help Gumshoe find out what happened to his family. Along the way, another adventure involving a party. I just cannot put these books down. The last one (Gumshoe & The Mysterious Mushroom) and this one are sooo good that you want to read them in one sitting. They are entertaining. Gumshoe can only be understood by Mia. She has learned she is a witch and he is her familar. I laugh at their interactions. I have been reading this too my grandson and he has been chuckling too. He rarely laughs but he finds Gumshoe is funny. The cozies are perfect for the teen/young adult crowd. I’m an old lady and I love them too. I can’t wait for the next one.

This is a crazy teen cozy. I loved every minute of reading it. Mia and Gumshoe, her newfound cat, learn that her life isn’t what she thought it was. She has to defend her dad against a mystery. I can’t tell you much more that that without spoiling it. I can tell you that this is a story is entertaining, humorous and makes you enjoy finding the culprit. I loved everything about it. The story and flow is so perfect. Mia and her parents are perfect in the story. I can’t wait for the next book.

I read Shadow’s Fall without reading the prior books in the series. While I don’t feel I really missed out on a lot of information, I am sure reading the others first would have made things a bit more smooth as far as the storyline and understanding how the characters were connected. Natalie Johanson does an amazing job weaving a descriptive, intriguing, and original story. I could see the world in which the story takes place and feel what the characters were feeling. The characters were so original, likeable, and believable. The added elements of magic, danger, romance, and darkness only enhanced the book’s entertainment. I was kept on the edge of my seat more than once waiting to see what would happen next. Shadow’s Fall is Young Adult fiction but is just as entertaining for older individuals who enjoy a great fantasy read.

I didn’t love this book in the beginning. It was different overall and so different from the author’s other books. BUT, I’m so glad I stuck it out. It was so good in the latter half that I could hardly put it down. I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen and how it was going to end. This book starts with the murder of Cam’s mother. This throws him onto a new path in life, a life with pirates. The pirates are struggling, so Cam takes a job for some unsavory people. He never dreamed this would end in his death though. The story doesn’t end there. Cam comes back to life as a Revenant with fire powers. He goes to do a job and meets Annie. Annie is a young woman who is being treated horribly and forced to do unspeakable things. Will Cam be able to help Annie and rescue her from the life she is stuck in? You definitely will want to read this book to find out if they can save each other!

For some reason, I have been on a real “piratey” kick lately (so much so that the little one has decided, on her own, to be a pirate for Halloween). Suffice it to say that this young adult, swashbuckling tale hit the spot! Having read this author before, I knew that I was destined to love the vibrant characters and immersing details and definitely was not disappointed! Camden and Annie take turns telling their story, and it did not take long for me to sink right into both of their worlds. There is so much action, adventure, twists, and turns that anyone can appreciate this book. You don’t have to be a young adult or even much into pirates to enjoy yourself with this. After you inhale this book, you are definitely going to want to go check out the author’s other work – I guarantee it.

Shadow’s Fall is the third book in the Shadowstalker series by Natalie Johanson. The first being Shadow’s voice and second is Shadow’s past. I made the mistake of reading this one first so i was a little lost, but have no doubt I will be going back to read the first two then will most likely reread this one. Rose, being the newly appointed Chief of her clan, is still trying to figure things out. Her new position of authority, her powers, being reunited with her mother that abandoned her at a young age, and the tether to King Micah. On top of all of that, Gerik, (who I am assuming is the big bad in the previous books) alluded the King and his troops in search of a myth deep in the desert. When Rose finds out, she instantly decides to find Gerik and stop him. She is not going to let him hurt anyone else she cares about. With a crash course on how to travel in the shadows, she sets off.
Meanwhile, King Micah travels home and does not get the welcome he was looking for. Instead of being welcomed with praise and opened arms, he is welcomed by citizens being angry at one thing or another and a group of religious people who hate all magic users. Micah has to figure out how to make everyone happy.
This book is the third book in the Shadowstalker series and although I read it as a stand alone, I highly suggest going back and reading the first two. The book seems to be starting off right after the previous one so I was a bit lost with who’s who and what’s what. Fortunately the book is detailed enough that the book was still enjoyable without reading the previous books. The author does a good job in world building and at times felt like I was there. As the book goes on, it becomes packed with action and excitement. Get prepared to fall in love with the series and impatiently wait for the next installment to come out.

The Calamities of Camden Callahan is the first book in the Revenant series by Brittany Tucker. This was a really fun, action-packed, YA adventure that had me hooked from the moment I saw the cover. I have enjoyed all of Ms. Tuckers books, but this is definitely my favourite (so far). I love Ms. Tucker’s dynamic and immersive world-building skills, she easily transported me into the story as I followed along. I could see this making a great television series, too. I definitely have a taste for her work now and I can’t wait to read more books set in the Revenant world… or anything else she produces. Life. Death. Revenge. This is the first book I have read by Brittany Tucker and lord how mercy at the talent she has. I haven’t read many pirate books, but they have a lot to live up to when I come across one again. Told from the dual perspectives of Camden and Annie, this book takes you on a journey of rescuing, surviving, and thriving. Camden was just nine years old when his mother was assassinated in front of him. When a random man saves Cam from the same fate his mother begs the man to take her son, raise him and keep him far from his father. Annie is from the North but after being sold by slavers to a Lord of the South she is raised as their daughter and “safe” if she doesn’t ask too many questions. Lockdown of a Port leaves Cam desperate to escape the “prison” he is trapped in leading to him making a risky move by accepting a red card job from a Stripe or Revenant. His reasoning is that he wants to buy his own ship, have Nathan, current ships navigator, as his quartermaster and allow Captain Resh to retire comfortably. Captain Resh was the man who saved him when he was younger. Annie isn’t like the others in New Havana, since the moment she arrived she has seen the ghosts of the island, they follow her and sometimes visit her in the night for help. Camden dies defending his job of transporting six barrels, only after he is spit back out and reborn as a Revenant himself does he learn the truth of the “job” he was on. It was a trap, a mission to prove the guilt of an once friend of the men who gave him the job. Now he has only one mission, to save his friends, and get revenge for his death on the man that caused it. Will Camden succeed in his mission to save those he cares for? What does his newfound powers truly mean by living his true life? How will the truth of his identity affect himself and those around him? This world was beyond captivating. I often found myself lost in the visual and having to reread a sentence or two to remember what was happening. The characters are complex and never skin deep though they seem that way at times. Kept on the edge of my seat and sometimes holding my breath this was an amazing read to start the week kept me engaged and guessing what would happen next. I hope the author makes more books in the Revenant world.

The Calamities of Camden Callahan is A Revenant Novel. The story focuses on 19-year-old Cam, a pirate. Cam has had a disastrous run of luck, with his crew killed and his captain missing. He has to figure out what his next steps will be in his life. Cam is a great character who has lived through a lot in his youth. The story has a lot of different layers with interesting characters. Cam develops a lot in the book and leaves me hoping for more books about everyone. The twists and turns kept me reading late into the night. I enjoyed this book and have recommended it to my niece for a new read. I think she will enjoy Cam and his adventures during this book. I look forward to reading more by this author.

This was a well-written fantasy which I couldn’t put down. I enjoyed the adventures the characters were led down, there was danger, secrecy and suspense which kept me engaged and guessing throughout.
The characters were well-crafted, I particularly liked how their backgrounds influenced their actions and beliefs in a believable way, especially as they attempt to protect their loved ones. Both Camden and Annie are strong, capable individuals, determined to get the answers and outcomes they’re working towards.
This was a fun read which kept me turning the pages and wanting more and I will be looking for more from this author!

I’ve read every book this author has put out so far and this by far is the best one. Although I’ve read enjoyed all of them, this one had an extra emotional element tied to it that drew me in. It does touch upon death and a few other sensitive topics. it has action, drama, romance, and sci-fi. The character development of Camden is superb. The plot twists are fantastic. To the author, I’m so glad you didn’t listen when they told you this book wasn’t good. It may be the best book I’ve read this year so far. I cannot wait to see what you come up with next!

This book piqued my interested from the moment I read the description. It sounded intriguing and I just had to know what it was all about. I was pulled so easily into the story the author created. It was wll written and paced just perfectly to move the story on. I really enjoyed the main character, Cam. His past plays such a big factor in the book and it was really interesting to watch his character confront this as he developed. You could see his growth as the book goes on and I found myself liking him more and more. Overall, this book was a really good book and I would highly recommend it.

I absolutely loved this book. What an adventure it was to follow Camden and Annie. It’s a pirate’s life for him. His journey is hard and I was engaged from the moment his mom was murdered and put him into the life. I love the storytelling. The characters were quite entertaining and had me giggling in some parts. I will be reading this to my grandson when he gets a little older.
