I really enjoyed this story.i love fantasy adventures and I was gripped from the beginning and it didn’t let me go. The author does an amazing job with our main characters of Camden and Annie. Both of them have troubled pasts and things they are running from but both of them are survivors and they will stop at nothing to protect and save the people they care about. Camden has had it tough after losing his mum and hiding from his father. When a captain takes him in he changes his name all in an attempt to hide from his father. Why is his father so dangerous that his mother died trying to get him away? When Camden’s captain is kidnapped he knows he has to save him before its too late. What if the captian reveals Camdens true identity? Would his life be at risk? How do you deal with things when the one person who should have protected and defended you is the person who betrays you? This is an action packed story filled with drama, danger, secrets and lies, Suspense that keeps you turning the pages. Camden is a strong character who fights against adversity despite the costs to himself. Annie is the same, strong, independent and does stop asking questions but will she like the answers she finds? This was a great read and I can’t wait till the author produces more work and more adventures for me to lose myself in. This is a story about being strong enough to face your past head on and work through the problems instead of continuing to hide and run away from them and also learning to fight for the people you care about no matter the cost to yourself

This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed and look forward to seeing what is next for them in the future. This is a well written story about betrayal and facing the one person who should never have betrayed you. I found this book to be suspenseful in parts and engaging in others. A hard to put down story that is fast paced and easy to read. I enjoyed the characters and what they brought to the story. An entertaining story where the main character has a secret that he doesn’t need to come out but what will happen if it does? This is a story that also has some suspense to it as well. There is great growth of the plot and characters throughout the story. I enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.

Shadow’s Fall is the third book in the Shadowstalker series by Natalie Johanson. I have come into this series a little late, starting on the third instalment instead of the first- as when I purchased a copy I hadn’t realised this was Book #3 in an ongoing series. I really wish that I had noticed that before embarking on this adventure because I think knowing what happened previously would have made this an even better read. So having said that, I will be going back and reading the previous two books before continuing on with any new instalments in the series. I highly recommend that you don’t do what I did by jumping into the series on this instalment. Take the time and go back to the beginning and find out what happens there before diving in here. I think knowing what happens previously will definitely enhance your reading experience of this book, and the series as a whole. This is a bit of an epic YA fantasy with magic, action, romance, drama, danger, emotion, intrigue, mystery, secrets, discoveries, challenges, surprising developments, and sacrifice. This is a well-woven story with plenty of texture, depth, and layers that are cleverly crafted into an engrossing read. The world-building is immersive and the characters are engaging- making for a great read. This instalment ends on a cliffhanger- so everything is set to continue in Book #4—- Bring it on! Shadow’s Fall is the third book in the YA Shadowstalker series. I had started reading this book before I realised it was the third book in the series, so I stopped and went back and made sure to read the first two books, Shadow’s Voice and Shadow’s Past. They follow on from each other, so I was glad that I did. Natalie’s writing is imaginative and thrilling and it’s easy to see why she won first place in the Firebird’s Book Awards. The Shadowstalker is a slightly dark magical fantasy series, and it is that darkness that gives the story that much more edge. It is a testament to Natalie’s writing and world building skills that I enjoyed this story and the others so much as I am not usually a lover of YA stories. I really enjoyed the MC Rose, she is a well-developed character that is strong, sassy, tough and kickarse and does not apologise for who she is. Rose’s past raises its ugly head when she is forced to hunt one who is intent on destroying everything she loves. Will that darkness be her undoing once again? If you like something a little dark, something a little mysterious, something a little thrilling then jump in because this story did not disappoint.

This is the third book in the Shadowstalker series. I initially started this book without reading the previous two but went back to read the previous books before finishing it. I would recommend that you read the first two books prior to starting this one to get a clearer picture of the characters and the ongoing story. This was an enjoyable young adult fantasy. It was well-written; everything links together nicely between the books and within this one. The writing style was easy to follow and sets up the twists in a satisfying way. I also enjoyed the way the characters, character developments and growing relationships were written. I’m hoping another book is released soon as I need to know what happens next!

This is the 3rd book in the Shadowstalker series. I do highly recommend reading theses book from the beginning so that you get a complete picture of the story, the characters and how they are entwined. The author has done an amazing job with this series. It is a magical adventure, full of danger, secrets, lies and connections i did not see coming. The characters are well written and both Rose and King Micah have their own battles they have to resolve as well as trying to work out their unique connection and what it all means. This story is full of moving parts and people so I definately recommend reading this series in order to get the full enjoyment. Reading it is like watching the characters playing a game of strategy but they don’t know who they are against or what their enemies are capable of which makes it harder to see the twists and turns coming. One thing for sure both Rose and King Micah have to make sacrifices to protect the people under their care but how big a sacrifice will surprise them both. This book ends on a cliff hanger so I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. If you enjoy stories of multi layered lands, magic, danger, adventure, secrets and ancient clans then I definately suggest falling into this series.

A fairly entertaining fantasy novel. I came into it here in the middle. I found it to contain lots of drama and adventure. Everyone seems to be adjusting to new roles. The writing is well-done. I was pulled in right from the beginning with King Micah surveying the battlefields and the opposing forces. From their, it only got better. I will have to go back and read it from the beginning. I found the protagonist to be strong and trying to overcome a lot. It was a very well-done read.

Adventurous fantasy fiction This is the third book in the series and there is a lot going on. Rose and Micah have so much to figure out with their clans and lands as well as each other. This author creates a world that is complex but delivered well. There are twists and turns that build the suspense and as answers are revealed more questions come to light. There is a dreaded cliffhanger but I am looking forward to the next book. Recommend.

This is the first book that I have read from two authors this year and it was amazing. I loved that I got to read both of the characters’ points of view. I fell in love with both of these characters right from the beginning. I could not put the book down until the very end. It only took me a few hours to devour this amazing love story.
Mina was from the world side of the town so she got picked on a lot when she was child. She was getting so tired she was thinking about asking to leave school. Mina met a new boy named Wesley and they became so close so fast. She has a new friend but as luck would have it he leaves her two years later. Now Mina is in high school and she is now the queen bee. She has all the friends and also got a new boyfriend. Mina is on top of the world until she finds out that Wes is back. This is a very well written book. I love how it has the two different perspectives. It is lighthearted but also thought provoking. It makes you laugh, makes you cry, and keeps you on your toes. Be ready to be reading for a while because once you start it’s hard to put it down.

I’m not sure where to start this review. First I enjoyed it and absolutely adored both Wes and Mina from the beginning when they were best friends in 5th grade.
A lot changes in the years they were apart, except their connection to one another. The moment they see one another its like no time has passed.
High school Mina struggled a lot with who she was, almost like she had a foot in the past world she lived in and one in the current world which could not have been any different. Seeing her discover who she really was one of the things I enjoyed the most about this book.
Wes was someone I could relate to, he didn’t allow his not so great childhood define him and did what he could to change to make sure he didn’t repeat others mistakes.
This book hit me deeper than I could have anticipated, it will be one of the books that I will carry with me for a while.

Mina has been bullied since she was a young child. Called many names just because she had a single mother, wore used clothes and lived in a trailer park. Mina all but gave up on finding friends until one day in Grade 5 a new kid named Wesley started at her school. He also came from a troubled past. Currently living in an all boys foster home while his dad is constantly in and out of the picture. Quickly the two became fast friends and eventually more. That is until one day in Grade 7, Wesley left without so much as a goodbye.
Mina’s mother married a rich man and their lives turned around. She went from thrift store finds to name brand clothing, a trailer to a mansion, public school to a fancy private school. She knew in order to survive this, she had to adapt. Mina became the Queen of the school wearing a mask and pretending her past did not exist.
It all became threatened when Wesley reappeared into her life. It has been years since the two have seen each other but old feelings are hard to fight especially when they are for your first love.
Mina worked hard to put up all these walls to survive her new life. Wesley wants to tear it all down so he can once again see the Mina he knows is in there somewhere.
This was a cute read. Childhood sweethearts reuniting in highschool. I was rooting for them from the beginning. I really liked Mina’s character. She thought she could not be herself to be accepted, the only one who ever made her feel like she could be herself was Wesley. Now that she has new friends, new clothes, new attitude, she doesn’t even know who she is anymore and is it worth all the pain to bring the past to the present and potentially ruin the future she worked so hard for.. Mina struggles with her own self worth and image. I really enjoyed reading her character arc. The authors did a really good job at portraying the intense emotions of a confused teenage girl who had her heart broken.

All I can say is WOW!!!! This was easily a hands-down 5-star read for me!!! The story was great, the characters were great, and the writing was great!!!
Wesley and Mina came into each other’s lives as children at a time when they needed one another. Wesley became Mina’s protector from vicious bullies, and Mina changed his life as well. The two became best friends, and then a crush, and then had the potential to become so much more even though they were children. Their little happiness bubble burst when Wesley disappeared without even letting Mina know. She was heartbroken, and life changed for her and her mother in ways they didn’t think possible. Years later, she is now the queen of her elite private school, and her life on the wrong side of the tracks is a distant memory until her past shows up at her school in the form of her best friend and first love, Wesley. No one knows about her past, and Wesley not only threatens her new life, but he still has the power to destroy her heart.
There were so many great things I loved about this book. The chemistry between Mina and Wes was electric, the softness and tenderness they shared also melted my heart. Some of my favorite parts of the book were their cherished memories of their childhood. Despite their painful childhood, their bond and that innocent love they had for one another made the darkness a little lighter!

Something that set this book apart from other similar books was the heroine. Mina was the alpha. To her so-called friends, she ruled the school and at times could appear calculating. To Wesley, she appeared to have grown into the type of person that terrorized her as a child. Appearances can be deceiving…was she really that cold queen of the school or were there pieces of that young girl he fell for still in there?
“No matter the mask Mina chose to wear, it would be my job to prove to her she was good enough without it. I would remind her of what was beneath, of the little girl who played in the rain with me without a care in the world. It was time to set Mina free, to release her from the shackles of Ridgefield Academy and her so-called friends.” ~Wesley
Wesley does see some of the pieces buried deep inside of her. Despite her position at the top of the food chain in her school, she wanted to remember those forgotten pieces of herself. And, there were pieces of that little girl who cared for others still there, her volunteering at the YMCA and being a protector for those at school who were bullied. She was such a beautifully flawed and complex character, I LOVED her!
What was there not to love about Wesley? He was gorgeous, but it was his heart that was even more beautiful. He didn’t care what others thought of him, and man what a strong person he was! He endured so much as a child, yet somehow, became such a wonderful human being. It tugged on my heartstrings that he wanted Mina to show the world who she really was, and she didn’t have anything to be ashamed of. He didn’t want her to hide her light; he wanted her to show that light to the world!
As you can see, I fell in love with this special couple. However, it wasn’t only the characters that made the book so good! The story itself was fantastic. Even though it was a romance, it was also a lesson in life….despite your past, you don’t have to let it determine your future. You can use your past to make life better not only for you but for others as well. Whatever side of the train tracks you come from, it doesn’t determine the type of human being you become. Money and privilege don’t buy you happiness or make you better than anyone else.
Finally, the writing was excellent! The words these ladies wrote were just beautiful, and some of them were almost lyrical. All these things combined made for a fantastic book that I didn’t want to see end.
I have never read anything by these two writers, but they make a phenomenal team. They set themselves apart as a standout in this genre. It was such a beautiful and emotional love story, and I LOVED it! I cannot wait to read more books by them!

Mina and Wes’s journey was not what I thought it was going to be…it was so much more!
Mina and Wes meet in elementary school and become best friends only to become one another’s world and first loves to Wes disappearing from Mina’s world one day.
Fast forward five years and Mina’s world has gone from rags to riches courtesy of her mom’s husband. Wes reappears in her new world, but Wes is still Wes. Mina, well, Mina has become a Queen, uhm…chameleon trying to fit into her new world.
Wes’ reappearance throws a wrench in her life, and they learn true love can overcome life’s tragedies and you don’t have to change who you are to appease society.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. This was a clean romance, not a smut romance book like I normally read but it was well written, and I did get lost in the pages.

A Forever Kind of Thing was a great teen love story. Mina is a 5th grader who is not liked by most in her school. One day, a new kid, Wes decides to sit next to her. She warns this cute new boy he probably doesn’t want to associate with her, but he takes his chances. This is the start of their love story. They quickly became best friends, but Wes had a crush on Mina and they were inseparable. Unfortunately, Wes is a foster child, his father is a drug addict, and he moves around a lot. A few years of being friends, Wes has to leave, but does so without saying goodbye to Mina. Both are living apart and heartbroken. Mina’s senior year, we come to find out she is living a very different life. She has jumped the tracks to the rich kids and goes to a private school. She has transformed herself to survive in this new school, and everyone loves her. However, guess who moves back to the area and is awarded a scholarship to the same school Mina goes to? Yes, Wes. This takes both of them for a loop, but the feelings of wanting each other have never left. Can they get back to what they once had? Will he run when he is in his feelings? I enjoyed this story. It was sweet and emotional, but it was also hopeful. Wes was an amazing character. He was smart, determined, honest, and caring, but also beautifully broken. Mina was a great character too. Once you realize why she was behaving in her senior year the way she was, you can relate more to her. In the beginning, you wanted to shake her into reality. I loved seeing her progress back to the person she was with Wes’ help and being able to be the rock he needed. I am a sucker for teen romance and really enjoyed this one.

Requited love stories are always the best! This is a story about Mina and Wes, who first meet in the 5th grade and instantly connect. Mina was considered an outsider and bullied by her classmates. Wes excelled in his confidence even though he’s been living in group homes. They grow up and also their feelings towards one another grow too. When they reach age 13, Wes suddenly disappears and she is left with so many unanswered questions. As years pass on and still feeling the hurt, Mina’s mom marries a wealthy man and although she is enjoying the benefits of living this new kind of life, she doesn’t forget of her humble beginnings and of kindness. Another ironic thing that happens when tables have switched her is her chance encounter with Wes. As he’s continued to struggle to make a life of his own, he is still the same boy Mina has known long ago. Their chemistry is great as lost loves find a way back to each other.

This was my first book by these authors and they did not disappoint at all. The book had a lot of emotions involved. The details was on point. The world building and characters was well thought of. It definitely was a page turner for me. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happened next.

A Forever Kind of Thing is a young adult contemporary romance that centers around the character of a teen girl named Mina. Mina is used to being bullied and teased because she has grown up poor and wears secondhand clothing. Her classmates are cruel, mock her, call her names, and spread rumors about her mom. When a new boy enters Mina’s fifth grade classroom, she cannot help but notice how cute he is and the confidence he exudes. Mina expects him to avoid her like all the other students and sit beside one of what would be considered a ‘cool kid’. Instead, the new student sits beside Mina and starts to talk to her. Mina tries to warn him that if he talks to her that he will be mocked and explains to him how the other kids bully and tease her. Rather than running scared the new student introduces himself as Wes, and Mina learns that they have a lot in common. Mina and Wes become fast friends and for the next two years the pair are practically joined at the hip. Then Wes suddenly vanishes, and Mina is left with a lot of questions and a broken heart.
Fast forward five years and Mina’s life has taken a drastic turn after her mom has married a wealthy man. Suddenly Mina has the life she thought she could only dream of. She is attending a prestigious school, wearing designer clothing, and is the most popular girl in school. When Wes suddenly reappears and pops back into Mina’s life, she is worried that he will reveal her secrets and ruin her new life. Wes has not had an easy life over the last five years as he has remained poor and in the foster system. Old feelings resurface and Mina is conflicted between her new life of popularity and the love of someone who truly knows her and loves her regardless of her background. The push and pull between Mina and Wes takes the two down a rocky road as they try to navigate their dark pasts and their feelings for one another. Can Wes and Mina ever truly have a life together?
I loved the writing style of these authors and found the storyline compelling. The characters were ones that I was immediately drawn to and found myself relating to. Mina was smart, strong, feisty, and determined to have a better life than what she had. She was tired of being bullied and teased for being poor and wearing secondhand clothing. Her classmates were cruel, and she struggled to feel worthy of anyone. Mina wanted more out of life and dreamed of leaving her small town. When she met Wes, she found someone who saw her for who she was and genuinely cared for her. He did not care about where she came from or that she wore secondhand clothing. Wes was also someone who grew up poor and had a less than desirable life growing up within the foster system. When Mina and Wes became friends, it changed both of their lives. They found friendship, love, hope, strength, courage, and allies in one another. That all came with a price though when their friendship seemingly dissolved into thin air. Love and hope turned to grief, loss, and heartache. When Mina and Wes were reunited after years apart the feelings were still there but the two had led very different lives and taken very different paths. The ensuing journey was one full of angst, drama, betrayal, hurt, anger, and second chances. I highly recommend this book!

This is a great YA Romance. I really enjoyed Wes and Mina’s story and how you can’t always control what happens to you and when, but sometimes things works out how and when they are supposed to. Thomas and Harris did a fantastic job not only with the character development, but also with the plot line. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel and I actively try to avoid high school drama ;). This was well done and a super cute and quick read and I look forward to more from these authors.

This was a great read. I was pulled in from the beginning. I truly enjoyed the author’s writing style. Mina and Wes have had a rough start in their lives. These two became quick friends and their feelings grew from there, and then one day Wes leaves and Mina has no idea where he went. A few years later they end up at the same high school. Mina and Wes have missed each other over the years but they both have changed. There are a lot of emotions and ups and downs while they navigate their feelings. I look forward to reading more books by this author. I highly recommend this book.

This book man! It has a big piece of my heart that I willingly gave. These authors are new to me but I’m definitely looking into them each for more. The characters in this book from page one had me wishing I lived in their world, I was completely hooked. Wes and Mina had my emotions all over the place. There wasn’t any point where I wasn’t 100% invested in this story. I’m so glad I happened to see this book. It’s definitely in my top ten for this year and I can’t wait to read it all over again eventually. Five stars all the way and highly recommended.

This is a cute YA second chance romance. These two meet as young kids, both residing on the poor side of town one in a trailer park and one in a boys home. Instantly hit it off, until one day he is just gone. Fast forward a few years and her life is vastly different and he is once again in the boys home. They have to learn to navigate even a friendship with all the changes that have occurred over the years. Cute, recommend to anyone you likes a high school romance.

A Forever Kind of Thing by Carrie Thomas and Melinda Harris. This is a great young adult romance. Its about Mina who is a odd girl that hates school because she is bullied and treated horribly. This small town has treated her nothing short of inhumane. She feels like she is all alone in the world until 5th grade and a weird boys shows up for his first day of. They become instant best friends. They do everything together and eventually fall in love. They have both been handed hard losses in life and they are surviving the best they know how. Now they found each other everything seems a little easier. When out of the blue Wes and his family move with no notice to Mina. She is lost again. Going on without Wes is hard but she manages and has a pretty successful ride. Her mom marries someone that has money and Mina inherits the benefits of that. She’s wearing cute clothes, got all the cool friends and even has a boyfriend when Wes shows up at her college after getting transferred. What will Mina do? Will she give up her new friends and life to go back to Wes? Such a heart wrenching young adult read.
