Rising Star by Susannah Nix is an engaging contemporary romance with a friends-to-lovers and Hollywood romance element to it. But this story is so much more, as there is an underlying story that examines some current social issues and gives this story an extra edge. The story took me by surprise- in a good way, and I enjoyed following along for the ride. The ‘romance’ part of the story is a bit of a ‘slow-burn’ as the characters transition from acquaintances to friends and then to lovers. Ms. Nix developed the characters and storyline superbly, coaxing me further and further into the book to find out what would happen.
