Stepping It Up by Bea Stevens
The Liberty Lawrence Series Book 2
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

The second book in the Liberty Lawrence series is just as great as the first book. This book can be read as a stand alone but, I think it’s better to read the first one too, to get the background of some of the characters like Tom, Cassie and James.

In this book it seems that Libby is in all sorts of trouble and is getting the blame for everything that happens. She is now working for the paper and is going after stories with her partner Dave. She can’t stand working in the department she is in because there are some snotty girls and then Dave she has to deal with, the only bright side, she gets to be near her friend Tom. Libby still overthinks everything, as she usually does, and gets into trouble more than a couple times with jumping to the wrong conclusions.

When she meets James’ ex-wife Suzanne things start looking grim for her future relationship with him. There is a nice loud argument between Suzanne and Libby at a gala that turns things from bad to worse and, it seems Suzanne will be sticking around because she is trying to sell her and James’ house, but she doesn’t realize she is being conned. James has to spend a lot of his money and time on this case and it is wearing on his relationship with Libby.

James’ ex wife Suzanne is a real piece of work and some of the things she says or thinks she is owed makes me want to slap her. I can definitely understand Libby’s frustration with the situation, but also I am confused why it is taking so long for James and Libby to push forward with their relationship. I loved this second installment and have a feeling there will be a third, and I can’t wait to see what happens next with this hot mess they are all in!
