His First Lady by Avery Scott – Review by Karyn Taylor

His First LadyHis First Lady by Avery Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

His First Lady by Avery Scott is a fantastic ‘fake romance’ novel. I am a fan of fake romance novels so was really looking forward to reading this one and it certainly did not disappoint. I had never read any work by Avery Scott before and if this book is anything to go by then I’m sure I will read more of her work.
Michael Reese is a candidate for the job of President of the USA. His campaign manager Tom decides that to improve his chances of winning, then he needs a ‘First Lady’, well not a real one, a fake one. Michael chooses his speechwriter Kendall to become his ‘love interest’. It certainly helps that as well as being intelligent and great at her job, Kendall is also beautiful.
Once they are thrown together, Kendall and Michael both realise that they have so much in common and actually really enjoy being in each other’s company.
The plan is for Kendall to jilt Michael at the altar but as the wedding gets closer and closer both realise that they would really like for the wedding to be real and not fake. But do they admit this to each other? Of course not! That wouldn’t make for good reading. This book has so much angst as Kendall and Michael fight their growing feelings for each other which makes this book a page turner.
This book is very well written and has fantastic characters. I loved both Michael and Kendall, whereas I really wanted to punch Tom, the campaign manager is the face so many times. I’m of the opinion that if an author can get you to hate a character then they have done a great job with that character.
I’d definitely recommend this book.
