Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd by Christy Nicholas – Review by Angela Hayes

Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd.Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd. by Christy Nicholas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Time Tourist Outfitters, Ltd by Christy Nicholas is an interesting read and my favourite book of hers that I’ve read, so far. It is a suspenseful mystery, with sci-fi elements, time travel, history, adventure, drama, politics, intrigue…. And lots more. I am hoping that this book is the start of a new series.
Wilda Firestone retired from her job as a Temporal Agent and is now content to run her outfitters shop for time travelers. But things take a bit of a dire turn when a critically ill time traveller ends up on her doorstep. This results in a bit of a crisis and Wilda has no choice but to come out of retirement and set off on a quest to figure it all out and hunt down the source of the illness. Time is running out and there is much at stake. Will she get to the bottom of it all before it’s too late?
As usual, great world building by Ms. Nicholas. Her story is vividly descriptive and has a ‘visual’ quality to it. There were some areas that I felt were a little overly detailed and descriptive, a lot of time put into the smallest of details, which kind of interrupted the flow of the story just a little.
I liked having the glossary/pronunciation guide at the front of the book- it was handy to refer back to. The story covers a lot of ground/time- as the adventure takes us from Nth America, to Canada, Scotland, and even Africa. There is a lot of cultural influences in this story too- such as Native American Indians, and the Vikings- these touches added an extra interest and depth to the story. The historical elements were really well done too.
Mysterious and suspenseful.

Thank you, Ms. Nicholas!

Legacy of Luck (The Druid’s Brooch Series Book 3) by Christy Nicholas

4 Stars

I am reading this whole series so far out of order it isn’t even funny. I have enjoyed almost all of the books I have read by this author and this series has been great considering I don’t even read this genre. I must say that besides the area descriptions and where this book takes place, it is not my favorite of the series, but I sincerely did enjoy it. I am thinking that this is not the authors fault, maybe if I go back and read all of these in order it will all be different for me. In saying that you can absolutely read these all as standalones without too much of a problem.

Eamonn’s journey to locate Katie, his true love along with her sister and his cousin was fun, had a bit of magic here and there and also had some twists and turns that I was not expecting. I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland so it was great taking this journey with them.

There were some great characters in this book, all of them written in very well and I definitely disliked the ones Im sure I was supposed to. There are some sensitive subjects in this book that were a bit hard to read at some points, but all in all this authors writing still comes through as completely awesome throughout.

Highly recommend.

Sugar & Spice (Spicetopia #1) by Phoebe Alexander Featured in the Sweetest Obsessions Boxed Set Collection.
I was already a huge fan of Phoebe Alexander having previously read her Eastern Shore Swingers Series, so was excited to read more of her work. This book did not disappoint in the slightest. I truly lived up to the high standards that I’ve grown to expect from Phoebe Alexander.
I adored the 2 main characters and their sexual chemistry was off the charts HOT. As always this author has included some very hot and steamy sex scenes.
Cy Sweet is the undercover boss, using the name Marcus Young, who is working in the family business Sweetopia to find out who is causing disruption amongst the staff. Little did Cy expect that he’d fall for Jolie Cox (The Red Velvet Queen). Jolie is a hardworking single parent struggling to bring up her 2 boys, one of whom has Cytstic Fibrosis. She hates the sweet family and everything they stand for but totally falls for Marcus not knowing his true identity.
This is a really compelling story, seeing Jolie’s struggles to provide for her boys and the lengths that she’s willing to go to, to provide for them. But what will happen when she discovers Marcus’ true identity? Well, I’m not going to give a spoiler, you’ll have to read this fantastic book to find out.

Review of Sugar & Spice featured in the Sweetest Obsessions Boxed Set

By Phoebe Alexander

I absolutely adore this author, I really do! I love the fact the characters she writes about are every day down to earth people, especially the females! They aren’t super skinny, tanned with big chests – she opts for the more curvaceous females who are just absolutely fabulous to read about! And the female lead in the story was no exception she was brilliant! A down to earth single parent who has body hang ups like most women but also was learning how to accept her body! Jolie is probably one of my favourite female leads from Ms Alexander; there was just something about her that made me connect straight away! I loved the setting for the story; a sweet theme park – such an unusual setting for a story –loved it! Alongside the amazing Jolie was ‘Marcus’ – I just loved him! I guess I could predict how the story was going to go but I still loved everything about the two characters and the way in which they met and how their relationship went along. There was the usual steamy scenes in the story, as expected with this author and again as usual they are brilliantly written with a great spice level!!
I am so excited to see what is going to come next in the book, as Ms Alexander does lead us nicely into a second book in the epilogue! I think it’s going to be AMAZING!!!!!! This book definitely deserves more than 5 stars – I loved every single minute of it!

I LOVED this story! I really enjoy this author’s wonderful stories, they are so sweet and as the title says irresistible! She writes wonderful contemporary romance stories that are engaging from the start and with characters I always fall in love in love with straight away. I loved Tyler! I liked that he was able to admit his faults when it came to relationships, and I loved that he was obsessed with the 90’s! Totally my era for growing up! Melanie was just adorable, she really was! I loved her naivety and shyness when it came to even looking in Tyler’s direction and I admired her attitude when it came to the job that she absolutely loves! I could feel the connection between Tyler and Melanie; it wasn’t that all consuming passion in some stories but more of a gentle, slow burn – it was perfect for the two of them! For me I thought that they were just perfect for each other and I was rooting for them the whole way through.
Simply Irresistible was a super sweet read and one that I highly recommend! I can’t wait to read more from this author again in the future!

The Traitor, An Underground Bad Boys SeriesThe Traitor, An Underground Bad Boys Series by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Traitor was another amazing 5 star read by an extremely talented author! I loved every single second of what I was reading. When I read book 1 in this series I said that whilst I’m not a fan of MFM stories I love this author so I’m willing to read them however even I cannot deny that pull that these characters had to each other. The passion, the chemistry and the connection that they had was immense and the author really does write the scenes very well. I loved Spencer, there was just something about him that drew me to him straight away, he felt like he was broken and it honestly made me want to give him the biggest hug ever! Josie was a fantastic female lead; she was feisty with a stubborn streak and in my opinion perfect for Spencer! Throw Gage in to the mix and it told for a very steamy time for these three characters!
I absolutely loved this story and would 100% recommend it to other readers. It could be read as a standalone however I highly recommend the first book in the series (and any other book by this author) also!

This box set contains 25 sweet and spicy stories from various authors. As with all box sets you get your fill of amazing stories. Sugar and Spice is just one of those stories! It is book one in the new series by Phoebe Alexander called Spicetopia, but we get it first in this set!

Sugar and Spice is a fun story. Original and different. Our main characters are the Sweet family, specifically Cy Sweet and their workers from Sweetopia, specifically Jolie, the Red Velvet Queen.

Sugar and Spice is a little different than the stories Alexander usually writes. It’s a little “sweeter”. The sex is still spicy but the actual story is sweet. However, once Cy and Jolie get to the hot tub things just might change and lead to a steamier second story!

Simply Irresistible A Totally Sweet Love Story written by Jennifer L. Allen is the second book that I have read by this author. The characters are well written and play off each other so well with their decade music and movies. I just love the little quirks. The plot is awesome and the scenery is great especially the way the author described NYC.
Melanie Katsaros is socially awkward but she is also an executive assistant for a women’s fashion magazine she loves her job and her boss but, she has aspiring dreams she just has to get the nerve up to talk to her boss about such dreams.
Tyler Scott works as an executive assistant to the editor of a men’s magazine and he hates his job. His boss is not a pleasant man. But Tyler has grander aspirations, this is just a stepping stone. Tyler doesn’t have any trouble finding women, it’s staying with them that is his problem. He can finally admit to himself that he self-sabotages his relationships. Maybe he just hasn’t found the right woman yet.
He first saw the beautiful woman with the big green eyes in the elevator at work. He is instantly intrigued and is determined to find a way to get her to go out with him. She seen him before in her office building and he was totally awesome to look at and his suits cling to him, he has a hot bod, too. And it’s another missed opportunity to see if he wants to do lunch.
These two are so perfect for each other and I loved reading this story and can’t wait to read more of this authors work.
I highly recommend this book…

The story Wreckers Gate (Immortality and Chaos Book 1) by Eric T. Knight is a wonderful fantasy book. It is a story that has action and adventure. It grabbed my attention from the very beginning and didn’t let go until I had read the final page. I enjoyed reading about the character of Wulf Rome. He has found an ancient axe. It wins him a throne. Wulf is a man that is popular with the people. He stands up to those who act and believe they are better than others. The Guardians are causing chaos and destruction. Melekath must be stopped. There is a stranger who calls himself Lowellin. He tells Wulf that he is an immortal and is the world’s only hope. I found Lowellin a character that is mysterious. Does he have his own agenda? Read this book and begin a journey that is interesting and intriguing. When reading this story, I found myself on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. There is wonderful world-building and the story has a lot of details. I felt like I was right there with the characters. I also enjoyed how there are legends and stories told. There are other characters that you are introduced to. I enjoyed reading about their part in the story. This book is a wonderful start to a series and one I would recommend reading.

The Devil’s Prayer
By: Luke Gracias
5 out of 5 stars

The story The Devil’s Prayer by Luke Gracias is a book in the horror genre. It is one that had me turning pages. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I enjoyed reading about the main character of Siobhan Russo. Siobhan’s mother had disappeared six years ago, and she was left with responsibilities and questions. Now those questions have only grown as her mother has committed suicide. Determined to find out the truth behind her mother’s disappearance and suicide she travels to the convent where her mother lived. There she finds a final confession from her mother, Denise, and pages that are part of The Devil’s Prayer. What will Siobhan learn when she reads her mother’s confession? Will she find all of the answers that she is seeking? What do the pages of The Devil’s Prayer reveal? Siobhan has also found herself being pursued by extremist monks who want the pages she has found back. Will they be successful, or will Siobhan escape their grasp? Read this book to find out. This story has scenes of action and danger. It is thrilling and suspenseful. I had to remind myself to breathe. Siobhan’s mother was also a very interesting and intriguing character. I was appalled and angry at what she went through, however, I at times questioned the actions that she took. The story also has other additional characters. Some of them help and some are only out for themselves. I enjoyed reading about the part that each one played in the book and their interactions with Siobhan. This is a story that had chills going up and down my spine and found I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished the final page. Highly recommended.

Simply Irresistible: A Totally Sweet Love Story by Jennifer L Allen is exactly that a sweet romance story that makes you feel good. This story was fun and made me laugh as well, it is a slow burn tale that was set at just the right pace. This is one of my favorites by Jennifer and the characters are lovable but strong. It is a heartwarming romance and I enjoyed watching the relationship grow. This is a quick and easy read the geeky characters are very realistic and relatable.

Melanie has always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and is working in a magazine that will hopefully get her there. Tyler work for the same company but in another branch and hates his job. Tyler finally gathers the courage to ask her out but things don’t go as planned.

Will they find their HEA and make their dreams come true or will their love of different era’s keep them apart ? I highly recommend this book.

A super sweet romance that discusses the age old battle of movies (are movies from the 80s better than the 90s – the answer is yes). OK so that’s not the point of the story, but I wanted to weigh in on the debate…

This story is told in dual POV with banter and well defined characters. The story moves at a great pace and kept me engaged from beginning to end.

This is a wonderful tale that I will be recommending to an older friends’ bookclub.

This collection is amazing and a great read. I am reviewing Sugar & Spice by Phoebe Alexander.

Phoebe Alexander did it again. She has the knack of giving you more than you can even imagine in her stories. Sugar & Spice is no different. Alexander has this unique ability to take her characters and make you feel like you are right there feeling everything they feel. Her characters are fully developed and are complicated just enough to make them real for me. She creates a world that I have been there before and want to go back as soon as possible. This story is about Cy and Jolie. Cy was put in place to work at his family’s child theme park as an undercover boss. Cy picks Jolie out immediately and knew he needed to meet her. Jolie is the Red Velvet Queen who is trying to keep her job. She is attracted to Cy. She is trying to play it on the down low. There are secrets that need to be uncovered and through Alexander’s story telling they eventually come out in the open. Will the future hold a place for Cy and Jolie together? One will have to read this story to find out.

Simply Irresistible: A Totally Sweet Love Story by Jennifer L. Allen as fun sweet read that had me hooked.

This book was a perfect slow lazy summer read that was relaxing, entertaining and funny. It was well written, detail and has this nice cheesy tone that you can’t help but get it pulled into.

I liked that it was told in dual POV, so we got the funess from both sides. That added such a nice element that I couldn’t even pick a favourite POV. Both MC’s are strong and well developed. I loved their interactions and banter. It was natural, engaging, and it had this nice realistic growth that you couldn’t help but smile at. This book really got me in the warm and fuzzy feels. On a whole this read has many familiar elements as any romcom, but also has this freshness that hooks you and blows the normal cliché’s out of the water.

Overall this book is worth your time, energy and feels. So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that this book will put a smile on your face, and leave you wanting more.

I love anthologies that have stories of variety and lengths. It makes it easy to put down and pick up in between adulting.

Sugar & Spice by Phoebe Alexander is like “Undercover Boss” and “Norma Rae” all rolled up into a quick and witty read. I grew up going to a small, family owned amusement park and that’s where this story took place in my mind.

It has romance and sexy times and redemption. It is a great addition to the anthology.

Legacy of Luck (The Druid’s Brooch Series Book 3) by Christy Nicholas – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Legacy of Luck (Druid's Brooch #3)Legacy of Luck by Christy Nicholas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Legacy of Luck is the third book in Christy Nicholas’ Druid’s Brooch Series. It’s a fascinating series that I’ve been really enjoying. Each book focuses on a character in a different point in (predominantly Irish) history who inherits a brooch, passed down through the generations, and with it gains some magical powers. I love the glimpses into history, and the way the story unfolds throughout time.
In Legacy of Luck, the heir to the brooch is Éamonn. A traveller with a knack for gambling with dice, Éamonn is desperate to save fellow traveller Katie from an arranged marriage she hasn’t consented to. He has to discover how to use his powers to help him on his quest, and how to do so safely.
There are lots of good characters in this story – I particularly like Éamonn’s brother Ruari as he is kind and loyal and uninterested in the romantic drama that takes over most of the other characters. I also like Turlough with his gift for music.
In this book there is a fair bit of violence and domestic abuse, particularly in Katie’s story. It is addressed sensitively and is a relevant part of the story, but at times it is quite graphic and can come unexpectedly.
For me, this is a five star book. I enjoy the series, and this is a great addition to it! The books do not need to be read in order, and indeed the series order doesn’t follow the chronological order of the time periods that the books are set. So I’ve been reading them in a fairly random order and enjoying the story that way! If you’re particularly interested in Irish travellers or 18th Century history, this might be a good place to start.

With a title like Sugar and Spice, and Phoebe Alexander as the author, I knew this would get delicious.
Jolie and Cy have an instant attraction but as they work together at a family amusement park, things can get a little dicey what with the fraternization and such. Jolie’s attraction also brings up guilt since spending time with Cy would take time away from her boys. Cy has a secret that could threaten the budding romance he can’t ignore.
I’m excited this is the start of a new series so I’m hoping it’s a long one and we get more of these characters.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sugar and Spice (Spicetopia #1) by Phoebe Alexander caught my attention when I grabbed this collection. The title, of course, led me to be curious about the story to come. I have read other books by this author and was excited to get another of her stories. This is the start of a series that centers around an adult theme park cast-off remotely. The son of the owners is working as regular crew when he meets The Red Velvet Queen. He is working as a regular staff member despite his family. What will transpire between himself and the Queen?
The story is entertaining and fun. I also enjoyed the characters. I also enjoyed the setting of the story. This series could be quite interesting because the setting will lead to some interesting scenarios. I look forward to reading more in this collection and catching more of Phoebe Alexander’s books in the future.

Al Capone at the Blanche Hotel by Linda Bennett Pennell – Review by Bobbi Wagner

This is my first book by this author, I enjoyed it with every page I turned. I was pulled in right from the first page. This story is written like it is two different stories, one in the past, Meg and the other in the present, Liz. This was done with ease and I didn’t get lost, I was able to keep up with the story. The characters are great, they made the story seem real. What will Liz learn about herself and will it change her forever? I highly recommend reading Liz and Meg’s stories.
