Master’s Rise: Book One (Phoenix Series) by L. Ann Marie – Review by Angela Hayes

Master's Rise: Book One (Phoenix Series)Master’s Rise: Book One by L. Ann Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 ½ Stars

Master’s Rise: Book One is the first book in the Phoenix Series by L. Ann Marie. This is the first book I have read from L. Ann Marie, so I really wasn’t sure of what to expect from her. I always enjoy exploring new-to-me authors, so I grabbed a copy and jumped right in. The story took me a little while to ‘get into’. I felt like I was missing something, and the flow was a little slow to begin with. But once I found my groove and adjusted to the style- the story flowed much better.
This is a descriptive and detailed MC story- with drama, action, violence, chemistry, and more. The brotherhood and comradery between the characters was great, which added to the whole ‘feel’ of the story. There were also some lighter, humorous moments which helped to balance the overall storyline.
L. Ann Marie has quite a long list of books to her name- and I am surprised that I had not found her before now. I will be adding a few of her other books to my TBR to explore in the near future- as well as keeping my eye out for the next book in the series to see where it takes us.

Thank you, L. Ann Marie.

Singles and Other Singularities was so good! It was like reading a diary, or a long letter from your best friend. I was a little confused at first, as I have not yet read the first novel, or any novel that features Leda and her friends and family, but it didn’t take long to catch up. I enjoyed this book a lot better than I thought I would, and I can’t wait to read the next installment!

Recall: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 6) by Meghan O’Flynn
Five Stars

Recall is the sixth book in the Ash Park series by Meghan O’Flynn. This psychological thriller series just keeps getting better and better, but it is definitely not for the faint of heart. This book will take you on a wild ride as Detective Petrosky and his new partner work together to catch a killer. As with the rest of the series, this is a gritty in your face, unable to put down Masterpiece. This one left me with a book hangover for a couple days. I kept thinking back how it really had me stumped while I was reading. This is an excellent series and I can’t wait to find out what Ms. O’Flynn has in store for us next.

Master's Rise: Book One (Phoenix Series)Master’s Rise: Book One by L. Ann Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Master’s Rise is the first book in L. Ann Marie’s Phoenix MC Series. This is my first read by this writer and as I absolutely love MC stories then I decided why the heck not AND I was not disappointed, not a bit!
It is supposedly a new series but I had a feeling that I was missing something and when doing some looking up I could see that I should go and read her other MC series to get the full impact of this one (though kudos to the writer in regard of trying to give us as much of background as possible but one does not want to become a drag…)
Master’s rise gives us the story of Cort who has left his old MC with some of his brothers following him so they will start up a new MC in a town that needs some fixing up, and of Seren who has always been treated slightly different because of how she looks … throw these two together with Seren’s hilarious and crazy friends and Cort’s MC brothers in a town that offers them loads of challenges and you get a story that doesn’t leave you indifferent! I am looking forward to the next one in the series and I see many good stories in our future!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dagda’s Daughter Raven and Hummingbird Book 2 by Nikki Broadwell is a fantasy where there is mayhem and kidnapping, lies and secrets, fear and love, otherworlds and magical powers. It is the story of Gods and Goddesses and the world they live but also the world on earth that they sometimes they dwell in. It is a great story and Nikki gives us a wild ride whilst you are on the edge of your seat devouring each and every word.

Dagda has done everything for the love of his life but his evil and deceit is changing not only the world but the Otherworld as well. But rather than own up to his misdoings he blames his own flesh and blood and he will stop at nothing to bring her down.

Katel doesn’t know who she is and that is because her father has taken everything away from her just to keep his secrets. Those around her are trying to keep her safe until she is able to care for herself.

Second Chance is the conclusion to the Flowers in December series. After Coming Home, I thought we wouldn’t get the chance to see Connor and Mary Ann find their way back to one another. It was an emotional and heartbreaking but sweet story that I have been hoping for since I first read this series. Jane Suen’s words prove that no matter what life throws at you, love will always find a way to win. I highly recommended this series to any who believes in Second Chances.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have loved everyone of this author’s books, this one is no different. I was able to relate to the author as I too have struggled with weight. Sometimes it feels good to hear that you are not alone with this struggle and I loved reading about this author’s struggles and experiences. This is a book of hope and that is it okay to be who you are. If you need a boost in self acceptance this is an awesome book for that and more. There are no words for what I took from this book but trust me this is a must read.

The Fat Girl’s Guide to Loving Your Body by KL Montgomery is everything we know but most don’t put into practice. This is a very different book than what she normally writes but it is written honestly and with humour. It is a book that is aimed at self-love and to be comfortable in the skin in which you wear every day. Let’s face it many of us don’t like what we see in ourselves, but we live with it anyway.

This book is designed to help you become that if you want without being to serious. Give it ago you never know.

The author has created a world and a story that is full of mythology and excitement. This has to be one of the most interesting books I have a read in a long time. I cannot wait for the third book!

5 +++++++ Stars

This is absolutely one of my favorite series ever! I’ve read them all out of order and wish I could go back and start from scratch the 1st time all over again. Take my advice and read them all one right after the other…I was able to piece everything together and that’s mainly because each one can be read as a standalone I guess but trust me and read them all, I am so glad I got to start this one finally in order, and before I go any further let me just say how flipping excited I am to know there is yet more Petrosky to come.

This one started out in perfect Petrosky style sitting in a cafe and his inner dialogue at full force. I about fell out of my chair when I found out he was sitting there with his ex wife! I have become so completely invested in these characters lives that I feel like I personally know them, that’s kind of scary lol

This one had me all messed up, should I really be conflicted about what is going on in this book? No but I was and everything about this story had me on the edge of my seat. I’m not going to even try to sum it all up, she does that perfectly in her synopsis. Just know that I can not recommend this book, as well as this whole series enough. I’ve read other books outside of this series by this author and it’s pretty safe to say she is one of my favorites.

Absolutely Loved It!!

Now that Connor has decided to quit his job and leave the big city will he and Mary Ann be able to pick up where they left off or is to late for them to have a happy ending. I enjoyed reading about this couple and the obstacles they were faced with. What will happen when they are face to face again after so many months of silence. 5 out of 5 stars

The story Ink’s Devil (Satan’s Devils MC Colorado Chapter #5) by Manda Mellett is a romantic suspense book. It is a story that I loved reading from cover to cover. It has danger, mystery, suspense, and the Satan’s Devils MC club. I loved reading about Ink and Beth. Ink is a member of Satan’s Devils and has a reputation. He doesn’t do relationships. He likes his single status. Then he meets Beth. Beth is a woman who some would consider to be sheltered. She is intelligent and knows the score with Ink. She must not let herself fall for him. Ink finds himself in a jail cell and Beth knows that she is the one that should be there. Will Ink find himself in jail for the best part of his life? Beth knows that he sacrificed himself for her. Is there any future for Ink and Beth? What part does Beth estranged brother play? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. I grew to care about Beth and Ink with each chapter that I read. I have read the other books in the series and loved that the characters from those stories appear in this one. Being part of an MC is to know that your brothers have your back. The friendship and feeling of family intense. This book also has characters that are only out for themselves. Will they succeed in their plans? Don’t miss out on the latest amazing story in this series. I highly recommend it.

The story Game of Fear: A gripping psychological thriller with a shocking twist (Fearless Series) by Glede Browne Kabongo is a YA thriller that I loved reading. It pulls you in from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until the final page. There is mystery, romance, and suspense. I enjoyed reading about the character of Abbie Cooper. She is a young woman whose concern is getting into a prestigious college. Then she receives a threat from an anonymous source known as The Avenger. He knows a secret that could destroy everything that she has worked for. Will Abbie find out who The Avenger is? Will she be forced to play by his rules? Read this book to find out. I found Abbie to be intelligent, independent and determined when she needs to be. She is a character that is likable and has flaws. I found myself rooting for her to succeed. There are many other characters that I enjoyed reading about. They interact with Abby and are supportive of her. Then there are those that are only out for themselves. Will their plans and agenda succeed? Don’t miss out on a suspenseful book that will keep you guessing. I highly recommend reading it.

When it comes to Maggie, I could not put this down. I started reading one evening, next thing I know I had finished the book and it was 4 am. Mya O’Malley knows how to tell a story, and keep you hooked and throw in some unsuspecting twists that have you screaming “oh my god!” And waking up your husband in a worry in the middle of the night. I enjoyed every second of this book, I loved Naomi and she was my kind of heroine, having been in several situations as her, (minus the ghosts). I too was torn between Bryce and Ryan, but who could blame us? I’m super excited to get started on the next Book, Naomi.

Lillie (Maggie Trilogy Series Book 3)Lillie by Mya O’Malley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lillie by Mya O’Malley a thrilling four-star read. This is number three in the Maggie Trilogy and follows on from Maggie and Naomi so I would strongly recommend you read them in order to get the most out of the story. The flow is strong between all of the stories and the author does an impressive job of keeping it all together, I am assuming they either have very comprehensive notes or an amazing memory as the details have been kept strong and don’t let the story down at all. Naomi is a great character and one that will surprise you with her story, this is a great trilogy, but it does let itself down a tiny bit in places. But that is just my opinion and I would still recommend you check the series out, as I have had some great enjoyment out of this.

Journeys Through SpaceTimeJourneys Through SpaceTime by James Talisman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Journeys Through SpaceTime by James Talisman a journey of a five-star read. This is number one in the Journeys Through series and shows great promise for the series. The fact that this is a debut novel shows in one or two tiny parts, but honestly, I could not believe it. I have been known to get into many a debate about the multiverse theory and usually avoid stories about it as they all follow the same type and we just get the one line, but I am glad I took the chance on this one as it had a great fresh perspective and made me start a whole debate about ideas from this story. Normally I cannot do that as I read a lot of romance and science nerds do not enjoy debating that, but this was great we started on one point and I brought in so many more. Much like the story it was deep and complex, and I found myself arguing over people just to get my point across, I explained it in different ways as the characters were so complex, they gave you strength from reading them. After we had our discussion we sat and talked and they all asked what book I had read as it must have been good to get me so impassioned, I explained that it was one I took a chance on and I hope many more people will. I did try to get them to give it a go, but they admitted that between the four of them they read one book last year last year. Hears hoping next year they raise the total to include this one.

Ink

The almost-as-tall as me girl with the blue hair intrigued me. As is my normal practice, I’d give her one night, but that’s all. Except, I found, it wasn’t enough. I should have kept to my own rules, but I didn’t. I went back.

It’s not forever, I’m not that kind of man. She’s not for me, she’s a citizen and not someone to be pulled into our underworld.

Except as I found out, I didn’t need to pull her in, she was already there.

Now I’m sitting in a jail cell when it should be her here, not me.

Beth

I saw Ink and wanted him, just as simple as that. While I knew there was no future with the biker, I was sure I could guard my heart and not fall for him.

My life was normal and uncomplicated. Until my estranged brother dumped me in a middle of a mess, a fiasco which ended up with Ink taking the rap.

Why did he sacrifice himself? Surely he wouldn’t be in jail if he didn’t care?

But whether he does or not doesn’t matter if he’s going to be there for the best part of his life.

Ink’s looking at a thirty year sentence and It’s all my fault.

Manda’s life’s always seemed a bit weird, starting with a childhood that even today she’s still trying to make sense of, then losing her parents in the late teens. Going from the tragic to the bizarre, who else could be unlucky enough to have had two car accidents, neither her fault, one involving a nun, and another involving a police woman?

There isn’t enough space to list everything that’s happened to Manda, or what she’s learned from it. But by using the rich fabric of her personal life, psychology degree, varied work experiences, and amazing characters she’s met, Manda is able to populate her books with believable in-depth characters and enjoys pitting them against situations which challenge them. Her books are full of suspense, twists and turns and the unexpected.

Manda lives in the beautiful countryside of Essex in the UK, the area’s claim to fame being the Wilkin’s Jam Factory at nearby Tiptree. She can usually find jars of jam which remind her of home wherever she goes. As well as writing books and reading, Manda loves walking her dogs and keeping fit. She lives with her husband of over 30 years, who, along with her son, is her greatest fan and supporter.

Manda is thankful that one of the more unusual, and at the time unpleasant, turns her life took, now enables her to spend her time writing. Confirming, in her view, every cloud has a silver lining.

Naomi (Maggie Trilogy Book 2) by Mya O’Malley – Review by Michelle Austin

NaomiNaomi by Mya O’Malley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Naomi was a great 5 star read and book two in the Maggie Trilogy.
I suggest reading book one so that you get the history on Naomi and the fact that she can communicate with spirits.

We get pulled in right from the beginning when Naomi has a premonition and is visited by the spirit of someone that was once close to her. It’s not a friendly spirit like Ryan & Maggie, and she is wondering how her fiance will react to this news.

While trying to plan her wedding and finish her next book things keep taking interesting twists and turns and distracting her, especially when Bryce’s ex-wife comes to town.

Will Naomi be able to help Nick get the peace he is looking for?

Overall I really enjoyed this book. Bryce was a great support which really helped Naomi and she loved him even more for it. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. Mya has once again pulled me in by her writing and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. 1-click and get started today on this great series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rule is the first novel in the Larussio series by Via Mari. This is my fourth novel by this author.

Katarina Larussio is trying to fill her father’s footsteps. But with the mistrust between her and the Italian family, it’s going to be hard. Chase Prestian made vows to protect his wife, but Katarina needs freedom to continue her father’s legacy in the mafia and freedom comes with consequences.

Her cousin Giovanni has employed Serena Motetti but how can she resist the attraction to the man that costs her everything?

I love this author and was so excited when I noticed there was going to be another series.

There are so many intricate stories that weave together. They are written so beautifully that it’s hard not to love them even when the characters aren’t the greatest.

I look forward to the next book in the series!

Recall: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 6) by Meghan O’Flynn

5-Stars

Recall: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 6) by Meghan O’Flynn was an excellent crime /thriller novel. It can be read as a standalone book but does mention things from the previous books. I loved the parts where Petrosky would reminisce about things that happened in the past. Some were good and some were bad. Having read the other books I felt the emotions he was feeling as he recalled them. Following him as he solved this case with his partner Jackson was incredible. There were ups, downs, and several crazy individuals. It never ceases to amaze me how the author creates these characters with such creative traits. I absolutely loved this novel and I highly recommend it.
