Distant Heart Sounds (Nurse Morgan Series Book 1) by Kate MacInnis – Review by Jennifer Gordon

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A paranormal romance which had me both laughing out loud at parts and also hiding behind my cushion at the spooky parts. A fairly short read but with plenty going on with the plot to keep me happily turning the pages. I found it to be an easy and fun read with great characters especially the main character, Morgan, who was very realistic and relatable. Morgan Cutler has been an emergency centre nurse for over twenty years and believes she has seen and heard everything. However when Morgan starts to be able to communicate with the dead following a near death experience the skeptical nurse has to come to terms with the fact that, “ just because you haven’t seen a ghost, it doesn’t mean they aren’t around”. As well as coming to terms with the paranormal world and her new abilities Morgan takes a chance at love with a relationship with an emergency centre doctor who also has psychic abilities. Morgan soon learns that some secrets are best left unseen when she sees the evil inside one mans heart. I liked that the main character was a slightly older lady and I enjoyed how her relationship with the new doctor developed throughout the story. As well as some spooky moments there were also light hearted parts and the storyline flowed along at a good pace and kept me immersed in Morgan’s world. Kate MacInnis is a new author discovery for me and I look forward to reading more books by her.
