Flipping the Bird is the captivating first instalment in the new Shift Creek series by Carrie Pulkinen. From the moment I read my first book by her, Ms. Pulkinen quickly become one of my favourite authors- her books never failing to deliver a completely engrossing and addictive read. But I have to be honest here, I reallly wasn’t sure that this book would have the same impact, as this is the first shifter book that I have read where one of the main characters ‘shifter animal’ was non-predatory. I really wasn’t sure that a crow shifter held the same appeal as a wolf, big cat, bear, or dragon. But colour me WRONG!!!! This story was superb, and Alice’s crow really added mischief, humour, and plenty of enthralling entertainment- so I really should never have doubted Ms. Pulkinen, and I definitely won’t make that mistake again.
This is a brilliant paranormal romance, with shifters, warlocks, magic, mystery, secrets, tension, lies, discovery, small town spirit, chemistry sizzle, fate, prophecy, drama, humour, a little mayhem, funny banter/ quips/ antics, wonderful characters, and a fun and intriguing storyline- not to mention a flatulating familiar that added an extra element of humour and interest to the storyline.
Shift Creek may seem like your quintessential small town- but there is so much more to the picturesque town than meets the eye. Especially when a large part of the population is made up of shifters. Then add in a magical creek and things are anything but ‘normal’. But, there is a problem that is threatening the survival of the town- the magical creek is drying up and if something isn’t done very soon to fix it- the repercussions could spell disaster.
Alice Crawford loves her town and is willing to do whatever it takes to ‘fix’ the creek. So there is a lot riding on her finding a solution to their problems. Her hopes are lifted when a hot new wizard arrives in town- who might be the key to restoring the creek to its former glory.
Donovan Drake has come to town with an agenda of his own. His secrets weighing heavily on his mind. Meeting Alice is an unexpected bonus to his trip. But, what happens when secrets are exposed? With time running out, things look quite dire for the creek, Donovan, Alice, and the town. How does everything work out in the end? This book is so worth the read to find out!!!
I can’t wait to see what happens in Book #2. It looks set to be fantastic!

Moonlit Whisper: An Irish Romance by Amy McKinley is part of the Moonlit Destination series. This is a short read which left me wanting more of the story. The story concerns Fiona who has been asked to tutor a footballer, little does she know it is someone from her past. What will come of this reunion? This is a sweet romance with a HEA and can be read in one sitting. The best part is it can be read as a standalone story. I always enjoy a story from Amy McKinley and this certainly did not disappoint. I look forward to my next read from this great author.

Moonlit Whisper: An Irish Romance (Moonlit Destination Series) by Amy McKinley. This book is super short and super amazing. I also love Amy McKinley so I knew it would be great. I read it in a super short amount of time but it was so good it kept me thinking about it long after. Its the story of Flo whose dad is a football coach so when he asks her to tutor one of his players she doesn’t think much about it until she figures out who it is. Its none other than Connor who used to sneak in and out of her room at night, the Connor who broke her heart when he left. The main reason Connor came back was Flo and to finish out his Senior year but now he has to not only win Flo back but he has the added competition of his ex best friend Lach. Will Flo choose Connor or Lach? Read Moonlit Whisper to find out!

A short Christmas Romance. Wonderful historical story that brings the characters to life in a way I didn’t expect. Viola has been shamed ever since she ended up hiding in a closet where two men happened to be intimate. It brought shame to her family and she has been cloistered in the “nursery” with her aunt except on Christmas Eve. Viola hopes that one day she may meet the one by standing under the mistletoe. I really loved where the story went from here. It’s definitely a sexy story!

Finders Reapers is book 5 in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. I love all these books, they are hilarious! This book can be read independently of the series, but the characters do cross over. Each book focuses on its own couple, this book being a Grim Reaper and a necromancer. Asher and Jasmine are the perfect couple, one can raise the dead, and the other escorts the dead to hell. They had a thing for a hot minute in the past, but it ended badly. Now they avoid each other at all costs, but are thrown together when the stuff hits the fan. Asher tries to take a vacation and it all breaks loose, leaving a mess in his return. They must team up to fix the problem and escort thousands to the devil. Highly recommend this book and all in the series. They are quick reads and are super funny.

Stars Fall From the Sky is the second book in the Reigning Hearts series by K.G. Fletcher. K.G is one of my go to authors and this book is one of her best. This book could be read/listened to as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend that you read this series in order. Both books are fantastic and you will get more of the storyline and character backgrounds if you read/listen to Run to the Sea first. This is Ginger’s story and it is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. This book flowed well and had me hooked from the very beginning. 

This book is narrated by Kelly Genelle Fletcher who also did the first book. I love her voice. She really brings the characters to life. I believe this narration is better than the first one.

Overall this is a great book, series and author. I look forward to read/listening to the rest of this series.

This was a great story about falling in love, romantically and with Christmas again. I loved all the animals in this one. And being able to see those from previous books. You don’t have to read the previous books to read this one but it helps just a little to know who is who.
Cant wait for more in this series as they’re so good!

This is the first shifter/hybrid fantasy novel that I’ve genuinely enjoyed from start to finish. I was enchanted by C.L Schneider’s dramatic prose, and Cassandra King did a fantastic job narrating. Her performance was very dynamic and added a lot more thematic context to the story.

Dahlia Nite is a fantastic character, and her special powers as an empath and how she uses it to blend in among humans was very exciting. Schneider’s world building was also detailed, yet expansive. You definitely felt like Earth and its humans were just a small population ignorant of the countless other worlds full of mythical and alien creatures. Not only does it make for good fantasy, but the novel also treats you to murder mystery elements and introspective explorations into identity as Dahlia must choose how she wants to define herself as a Lyrriken, a half human and half dragon being.

I am always thrilled to stumble across writing by Amy McKinley that I haven’t read yet. When I found Moonlit Whisper, it was an automatic download. I read this story in two sittings, only because I started it so late the night before. As always, the writing was strong with characters I effortless loved. Both Fiona and Connor were great, heck, I even appreciated Lach as a character. I could go on and on about how I loved the story, but rather than vaguely ramble, I just encourage you to read Moonlit Whisper on your own.

This was a hard-earned 4.5 out of 5 stars because it took several chapters for this novel to convince me it was worth the praise its received from many others. Despite being rough around the edges, I found the characters intriguing, the world building completely immersive and the story a great page-turner. The most striking thing about this book was its shift in genre midway. The first half was a grungy, futuristic dystopia, and the second half was a wasteland, survivalist fantasy. There is a R rating, but this book also needs a trigger warning because there are multiple rapes or attempted rapes throughout the book.

There were a few plot devices that I didn’t care for. Fee, the dark goddess and main character, has amnesia at the start of the book, so you’re as clueless as her for a long time about her identity. This leads to her love interest, Lucifer becoming the ethereal being that guides her towards her ultimate purpose. As a reader, I enjoyed Fee better when she was independent and strong-willed. In the second half of the book, she becomes a whiny, dependent, love-sick character. She also gets kidnapped or passes out or has disorienting mystical experiences more times than I could count. All of those instances didn’t feel necessary.

The supporting characters in this book are also very strong. I really liked Elena, Fee’s medical counterpart in her survivalist group, and Sam, Fee’s elderly father figure. I also wasn’t happy with Peyton’s storyline. I believe he deserved and could have been so much more than how his dynamic with Fee ended up. Maybe I’m indifferent towards Lucifer because I was hoping to see more from Peyton, but I’m curious enough about Fee’s future to look forward to how things work out in book two.

This isn’t my first read by this author so reading her work is brilliant every time, this one while being a shorter read you would think that it lacks in something but you will be happy to find that this book has everything and more that you get from a full-length novel. This book captivates you from the very beginning and has you hooked until the very end! I loved following Fiona’s & Connors story they had a great connection I really hoped that they could put the past behind them and face a new HEA together! This book was a brilliant second chance romance read that has emotions ad characters that make this read real and captivating. I can’t wait to read more from this author and this series!

I am not going to review all 7 stories but have chosen to highlight my favourite which is Two Hearts Christmas Rescue by Tamara Ferguson. Over the last couple of years I have become a huge fan of Tamara Ferguson, loving her books set in Crystal Rock, Wisconsin so I was excited to get a chance to read another book from the Two Hearts Wounded Warrior series.

This book gives us the story of Kinley and Jake. Kinley is the vet in charge of the animal shelter and Jake has been sent to help out there while he works on a hush hush dangerous assignment for the AFOSI. The attraction between Jake and Kinley is instant but as he’s only due to be there for a couple of weeks both try their best to keep each other at arms length and Jake doesn’t want to get Kinley embroiled in the assignment he was working on.

I really enjoyed this book. As with the other books in the Two Heart Wounded Warrior series there is a dangerous and intriguing story line along with the romance which helps keep the reader fully engaged and wanting to know how the story is going to pan out.
Definitely worth the read.

Book 2 of The Reigning Hearts series. This can be read as a stand alone. If you’ve read book 1 then you’ll know Emeline and Thomas. KG Fletcher is amazing and I can’t wait for the next one.

 

Ginger works with Emeline and has been invited to their wedding. After losing her husband she isn’t sure what to do. The quote I chose for Ginger is: “I’m fine right here. What is it? What’s going on?”

 

Jonathon is a doctor and loves his work. Losing his wife due to cancer things go downhill. A Grief meeting leading to him and Ginger meeting again. The quote I chose for Jonathon is: “We made it.”

 

Highly recommended for romance lovers.

Boy Oh Boy did I enjoy this one! My only complaint would be I wanted more! The story is a fraction in their lives. With a couple perfect flashbacks. I was made to feel hurt, anger, sorrow and giddiness all in the span of these few pages. The characters are memorable ones and I really can’t get enough of those Irish swear words! (Smiling like an idiot). Fiona and Connor are a sweet couple while Lachlan seems hotheaded.
I enjoyed this immensely and could only ask for more.

I was instantly enthralled from the first page and didn’t want to put it down. I loved the characters in this novel, even the super rude and judgemental characters. It was a great period erotica story in my opinion, I felt like I was actually in that time period. This is the first novel I’ve read from this author before and I can’t wait to read more in the future!

Echoes is the first book in Nikki Broadwell’s Lucifer and the Dark Goddess series. It is a paranormal dystopian adventure set in a world where the divide between rich and poor is huge, mechanical half-humans do all of the work no one else wants to do and a deadly virus threatens to wipe out the population of the city of Elysium.
Feirin is a fascinating protagonist. She remembers little of her past but somehow has managed to avoid detection from the authorities who would exile an undocumented person like her. Used to her particular version of normal, she doesn’t even notice that she has unusual powers and assumes that everyone can read each other’s thoughts.
This is a story of survival and resistance. Feirin, and the mismatched group who become her family, have to make tough choices and stand up for each other. There is hope, particularly as Feirin learns more about her powers, but there are also often times when it feels like the characters are just delaying the inevitable.
Elena is one of my favourite characters. She’s observant and down-to-earth, a reliable and stable point in Feirin’s unpredictable world. I’m also fond of Cat, Feirin’s loyal cat.
For me, this is a five-star book. I’m looking forward to reading more of the series! This book does have explicit sex and violence, so wouldn’t be appropriate for younger readers, but is great for new adult readers. It will appeal to fans of post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction who like characters who look after each other, even the ill or vulnerable. In that sense, it’s a very optimistic story! I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series…

In normal Amy McKinley fashion, I devoured this book in less than an hour and although I’m not used to her writing such short books and might slightly prefer her longer novels, I did in fact enjoy this story. I kinda figured out how this would end pretty quick but how it got there wasn’t exactly how I predicted, so I appreciated that.

Everything that draws me to this author was present in this story, the smooth flow, and easy to follow storyline, it did take me a couple seconds to figure out I was in a flashback here and there, but the transition was quick so it did not take away from the story. Not going in to any of the storyline because it is so quick and I would be giving something away, so will just say that I highly recommend anything by this author, I love her Gray Ghost series, it’s one of my favorites, and these quick stories she is writing are also very enjoyable for a quick time out from doing the adulting thing 🙂

This for me was a hard book to read. As a dog lover myself the thought of what the poor dogs had to endure was heartbreaking. Its not just a story of sadness though, the pages are filled with a lot of hope and hope. This book will pull at your heartstrings and make you feel a range of emotion from sadness and anger to happiness and joy.

The story follows one dog called Daisy but mainly focuses on a supposed dog rescue centre which was anything but a safe haven. It also goes through the fight that people had to go through to rescue the dogs kept there. It was shocking that nothing could be done sooner and that the dogs had to suffer. But with people persisting and continuing their fight so many of the dogs were released and able to find loving homes which was lovely to read.

A Kiss Under a Blue Christmas Moon is the fourth book in the Daydreams and Dragonflies Rock ‘N’ Sweet Romance series by Tamara Ferguson.
This book can be read as a standalone story, but I would definitely recommend starting at book one, just because this is a series that I have enjoyed so much and I feel that knowing the back story and knowing more about the background of where the book is set has really added to this enjoyment.
In this story, we meet Mia and Noah. Their talent and love of music bring the pair together at the famous music camp in Crystal Rock. They soon become more than just friends, but a disapproving father and family duties to honour mean that their love story is not a smooth one.

As with the other books in this series I was hooked by the sweet characters and storyline. I feel like I know Crystal Rock pretty well now which makes this series so much more enjoyable. The author brings this location to life with familiar faces and new sweet characters, I’m looking forward to revisiting soon.

This was a pleasant, short and sweet romance. If you’re looking for a brief, fast-paced romance with a plot that could have been spun into a larger novel, then you’ll enjoy A Moonlit Mirage. Personally, I’m not a fan of the secret agent/spy trope, but I was willing to give it a try because I read Amy McKinley’s Fake Fiancé: A Second Chance Office Romance and I immediately fell in love with her writing.

There were two main reasons why this book didn’t work for me. First, the narration by Regan Brown was subpar. The performance felt rushed and monotonous, and the story could have benefitted from being read with more emotion or at least voice inflections.

Second, I had issues with the structure of the romance. As a reader, I didn’t appreciate the “big reveal” McKinley was going for at the end. You don’t find out who Nadia really is or why she’s a secret agent until we find out why she was involved with Cade’s nearly fatal car accident, all of which is only discussed right before their *spoiler warning* happy ending together. Without having proper context for their characters, it felt like they just fell in love for no reason. If you don’t mind the “love at first sight” plot device, then this romance won’t bother you.

I first discovered this author 5 years ago when I read the first Walker series book. So when I saw this one I had to buy it and read it. The author did NOT disappoint, this story is absolutely captivating, Chloe is a strong and independent female who knows her worth. Jason is a good guy with a good heart and a strong sense of trying to do the right thing. I love Byron who I just wanted to call grandpa and hug on him. I wanted to wrap my hands around William and found myself quite often cussing him out. The other secondary characters added even more to the story and I’m hoping there will be secondary books that have Tyler, Gwendolyn and the rest of the crew. The authors writing style flows so incredibly smooth, she connects the characters, and the readers to the characters. There were hysterical moments that made me laugh out loud (just remember stapler), parts that made me scream, and even parts that brought tears to my eyes. This was the perfect book to bring in the New Year with and I enjoyed it tremendously. if you enjoy a good clean romance book that is driven by real romance, laughter, a happily ever after, and just a little office politics you should get your copy today! I promise this author will bring immense joy to you.

This is a wonderful set of stories. I enjoyed each and every one. Each of the stories has something for everyone with a little bit of Christmas magic and a lot of pets, what more could you ask for. One of my favorites is Two Hearts’ Christmas Rescue by Tamara Ferguson, she always gives me all the feels I want in a good book. Jake and Finley find themselves working together and then sparks fly. To find out what happens between these two this is a must read.. Another one of my favorites is Mistletoe Magic by Natalie Anne. All of these stories were so good I had a hard time putting it down. There is romance, danger, second chances, furry friends and more. There are some of my favorite authors and some new ones that I will definitely be looking for in the future. I highly recommend this anthology and you will not regret it.

Moonlit Whisper (An Irish Romance) by Amy McKinley was a great 5 star second chance romance. This is a short read that you won’t want to put down until you’re done.

Flo is a tutor and when her father asks her to tutor one of his new players she was shocked to see who it was. Connor is back for his senior year of college and to play football. The biggest bonus is that Flo is also there, the main reason for his return. Problem is, Flo is seeing Lach. Lach, Flo and Connor were all neighbors and grew to be very good friends when they were younger.

Will Connor be able to convince Flo to come back to him? Will she understand why he left?

There is so much more to this read. We get a slight backstory of these two when they were younger and a look into the heartbreaking childhood that Connor endured. Now he’s back to reclaim the one true love of his life. I really liked Connor and Flo, all of the other characters added a great element to the story. I actually would have liked to get a little more to this story, it was over too soon. If you’re looking for a great 2nd chance romance this is the book for you. 1-click and get started today.

Echoes: Lucifer and the Dark Goddess by Nikki Broadwell is an FF, Dystopian, romance story. Nikki’s writing skills and attention to detail make this story easy to read and see her vision. The characters are fully realised, connectable and believable. It is easy to become one with the story as it unfolds with a little mystery and is a great start to the series.

Imagine being lost in a dark world. Imagine not knowing who you are. Imagine knowing the only thing is your name.

I look forward to where Nikki takes us next.

The Kissing Bough is a short historical romance by Madelynne Ellis. Madelynne Ellis is a new author to me, but I’m glad I found her. I really enjoyed this story. It is fast paced and steamy. The story flows and the characters are detailed and so likable.the three main characters have some sizzling hot chemistry. If you are looking for a little naughty and a little nice short, I highly recommend this book. I look forward to reading more book from Ms. Ellis.

One of the things I love most about the holiday season is the promise of miracles and magic. I believe that Santa is more than an imaginary man that delivers toys to children, and for those two reasons alone I needed to read this story. If I am being honest, I am really torn about my final thoughts on the book. The writing was fantastic but there was something about the characters that I didn’t entirely click with. I love the premise that Mrs. Wright must save her husband and the epiphanies that come along with the task. I would recommend you give the Last Christmas a try yourself, it is short and sweet and what is there to lose? Before I wrap this up, I’ll leavd you with a quote from the novella that really stuck with me was  “Medicine is nothing more than an educated guess. They give you their best guess. And sometimes they are just plain wrong. They can’t know what’s in a patient’s heart or soul. They can’t estimate someone’s instinct for survival and will to live. That’s when miracles appear to happen, though they aren’t really miracles at all. They’re just humans instinctively responding to a threat to their life.”

I’m used to loving this regent time period. This was a quick read. From beginning to the end, it was everything you could imagine and more. This was sensual and sexy story that what for the time period is made the more delicious to read about. This book will not disappoint in any way.
