When I saw this book it immediately looked like a book I would enjoy and so I wanted to give it a try. I thought that the author did a good job of writing, although some of it didn’t necessarily flow together. The parts of the book that I enjoyed were the ones that were personal that spoke about his feelings, his family, how he grew up. I enjoyed that he shared such personal things and was open. What I wasn’t expected was that for a memoir it would have so many statistics thrown in, especially in random places. It didn’t feel like a memoir as much as a “lesson” for better lack of a word. Some of it read more like a history lesson and when I read a memoir, a biography, an autobiography, I read it because of hoping to find a personal connection. I think this author has great potential, but I feel he needs to be clear about what his books are actually about.
